FTC Disclosure: I was not sponsored for this video.
1. Something you want 2. Something you need 3. Something to wear 4. Something to read.
That is exactly how we do it. And this is actually new for us. Before it was one present per kid (plus sweets and a book or so). The one present was a big one (like a huge lego set they dearly wanted) and one year they really only had one on Christmas Eve (here we do presents on this day) and we felt strange about it, but gladly both kids loved their present and were so busy playing with it, it was totally peaceful and not like in those situations when they get overwhelmed by all the choices they suddenly have.
yes! love doing this!
We do this and practical stockings, and a special bauble every year - we will give them all their special baubles the Christmas they move out ;)
That's lame tbh
@@bunnybun674 you're lame, tbh 🤷🏼♀️
I love smaller Christmas! We do 3 gifts each with the mindset of "three was good for Jesus, three is good for you" haha
The 3 gifts are one per category: garment (something to wear), mentally stimulating (something that makes you think, games, books, puzzles, etc) and fun (this is always the wild card of the gifts and is usually as fun to gift it as it is to receive it!)
Love this!
Yawn
Hahah girl I love that 3 is good for Jesus and good for you 🤣🤣
Wow, that's great logic too! I often get confused why people give so many gifts to one person (here in our country, one gift is already too much) but now I understand why.
@@chelseajanele The same in our country, one present is a very nice, the most important is being together.
So interesting how we see Christmas and gift-giving differently :) for us, in Europe, its always one gift. I don't know anyone who would get or give more than one gift... i guess we are naturally minimalists :)
Yup the same. One gift and a sweater or socks made by gran.
I'm Australian and definitely NOT a minimalist and this seems like a LOT of presents to me!
When I read minimalist for all these gifts I was shocked 😂
Yeah, beyond the number of gifts I am surprised with how not minimalist these presents are... I particularly think of the small ring game thing, that's not the kind of toy you play mindfully with 🤔
Yeah same 😆
I’m doing a very minimal Christmas again this year and decluttering 2 garbage bags before Christmas. Gifts are mostly needs (socks, underwear etc) and a couple wants (toy, kid headphones etc) being a single mom and hardly making ends meet, the holidays stress me out and make me feel bad. But then I realize it’s a choice if I feel bad or a choice if I decide to be intentional about my purchases. My son has learned that we don’t need a million things to make us happy. We find joy in decluttering and finding new homes to others in need. Finding minimalism has saved me and changed me! #notkeepingupwiththejones
God bless you 😔 , what a caring and Awesome of a mom you are. Also dont stress out because your kids couldnt ask for any better mother than you , i hope you have an awesome christmas , rock on! 😀
@@halloweenhauntermayhem140 thank you so much!!!! What a very kind and meaningful thing to say 🥰
@@chelsieehh9308 ofc! 😀
@Carol Burns 😂
You’re so right about being intentional about purchases. I’m a single mom as well with 1 child. I always thought Christmas had to have a ton of gifts or i would guilt myself.. this year i thought.. why do i do that? where is all that crap from Christmas past? who the hell even knows! So i did the want, read, wear, need list & it was well received + i feel great! Hope you have a Merry Christmas :)
“Whatever this guy’s name is” Poor Krisoff 😭 😂
For those saying, “This doesn’t seem minimal” or “that’s an awful lot of Christmas gifts...” please remember that neither minimalism OR Christmas has set standards. To some, this may seem like a small amount of gifts, to others it seems like a surplus. Do what works for your family. When I was a kid, my parents went all out in Christmas and birthdays..we also very rarely got anything throughout the rest of the year. We were all really good at playing with toys too. (We weren’t the type to just play with them two or three times and they get chucked in the toy box forever). Anyways, the point being, do what works best for you and your family and let Sarah do what’s best for hers.
Yes, I totally agree! Do what works for you, and don't worry about anyone else!
I agree!
VIDEO IDEA: sarah reacting to her childhood/teenage photos with context on what was happening there and how she changed since then. :) love your content
Yesss
Nice idea
Yesss
Omg please I want this lol
Yesssssss!!!!!!!
I'm always suprised by how different Europe is from the USA and Canada. Growing up I always got 1 gift from my parents and 1 from my grandparents and as a mom to be that's what I plan to do for my kids as well. And I never really considered it minimal but well... I guess it is in a way 😁
yaeh, I'm like minimal with 5-10 gifts? wow, when our kid get 3-5 gifts we are like "ok we definitely went over the top"
Same where I live, 1 gift per person. I think it's a cultural thing.
I love this! I wish the US was more minimal in general. I am literally begging my parents and in-laws to limit their gifts for my kids. It’s just too much ☹️
Here in Finland (Europe) its multiple gifts for everyone :O I think it depends on the family.
Where I live, (US) here it’s common to leave Christmas with 20-30 gifts from family combined. I typically get everyone 6-7 gifts and usually get that in return 🤷🏻♀️
I wanna know what that personal gift is SO BAD. I’m SO nosy😆❤️
For me personally these are a lot of presents. In Germany we get one big item or few little things but especially I always keep in mind that grandparents and aunts and uncles will give presents as well ..so i don’t buy that many presents for my kids. But love that you gave it a lot of thoughts on what to get for each of your kids.
in brazil we only get ONE christmas gift! usually the person chooses and it can be a little bit more expensive/special. started watching "what I got my families for Christmas" videos this year and for me it just crazy hahhaa we don't do stockings as well, we just use them to decorate
eu ia dizer issoooo! achei um absurdo que os filhos dela tem 5 categorias e ainda ganham mais de uma coisa de cada categoria!!! se eu ganhasse um presente dos meus pais no natal já tava super feliz kkk
BR
One?
In Portugal too!! Ahh so refreshing to see Portuguese in a RUclips comment ehehe
@@tiffprendergast yes! I used to get one gift from my parents and maybe another one or two from my grandmas or closest aunts
We really can't afford that many gifts haha
Two videos in one week! Feels like Christmas is already here!
Sarah seemed so happy in this video! I can tell she loves giving presents to her children. 💕💕
Sarah!!! 🤍🤍🤍
I wish I had time to write about how much you truly mean to me. I found your channel about a year ago and I kid you not, I have watched every single one of your videos multiple times. You inspire me as a christian, a minimalist, and as someone who loves cleaning, eating healthily, and working out. Although I'm just in highschool right now, I can't wait to get married and have a family someday. Honestly though, I envy you a lot and am learning to be content when I don't have something that you have. I wish I lived near you so we could be friends!!!! I can't even describe how much you mean to me! It seems kinda stupid now that I'm saying it haha. Can you guys please like and comment so sarah will see this?? ☺️💕
this almost exactly explains me lol 😂
Librarian here...the girls and even boys really love The Anne of Green Gables graphic novel.
ImaTChure I love that book!!
I love this book
Loved that as a kid
The graphic novel has been in my “Saved for later” cart since before it came out 🤣 I read EVERY book written by LM Montgomery and I’m scared the graphic novel will be disappointing.
@@username00009 I can totally get that!
So sad the need for so many disclaimers for the small group that whine.
Just do what’s right for you!! Spare us all the judgment and let Sarah do Sarah, or another mommy do what serves her and her family best.
Merry Christmas 🎄
Absolutely, it's so sad.
Spot it is called dobble here in the UK. Such a good game, I'm sure your family will love it
I have been an Amazon prime seller since 2012. I started it for some extra cash while on disability and now fully support myself. I am a very small business owner and over half of the individual sellers are. When its prime it doesn't mean its sold and fulfilled by Amazon unless it says both purchasing on Amazon helps small business owners all over America and they can be from your home town. Please keep this in mind and maybe think of just the idea that you like to buy some stuff in person. For instance if you were to purchase something from me on Amazon, it would still be prime but you would also be helping someone who was told by doctors they would never be able to do that despite the 6 surgeries and many hospital stays and their are other sellers just like me
It really inspires me to hear and see you talk about your kids as equals and as friends. Most parents feel that way to a degree, but you really emulate who I want to be as a parent in the future 💕
Love this, its crazy how materialistic & consumer driven Christmas is. Your list is awesome and something to aspire to! I loved that fishing game too, I found the original one you showed a picture of at Walmart last year for my bonus daughter, she thinks loved it as much as I did. Love when they bring old stuff back!
"If you're my family! Don't watch this! Turn this off!" 😂😂😂
Sarah, you're hillarious! :)))
Love the puzzles and also that you chose some toys from my childhood. Nostalgia hit me hard...
❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoyed this!! Categorizing in this way reminded me of the “Something to wear, something to read, something you want, & something you need” type of gifting!
Omg! I watched the entire video thinking "Sarah looks like someone I know", like always. But when she mentioned "Anne Of Green Gables", my brain exploded! She reminds me soooo much of the character on the netflix tv show "Anne with an E". Even her moments of excitement, like the one with the deer tree ornament. Now, I can finally live in peace!!! lol
I grew up getting an insane amount of gifts under the tree, but also giving an insane amount of gifts. My mom always made sure that I fit in with others and, as a loner only child, had tons of toys to occupy myself. Now, It makes me happy to remember things people mention throughout the year and surprise them with things they wanted or something I thought they’d enjoy. I don’t splurge on myself..I just save the money for Christmas!! I will literally spend hundreds of dollars for others..🤷🏼♀️ just the way I grew up. I will do the same with my kids too.
Hi Sarah ,
I discovered your channel recently as I have been on my own journey to minimalism, health, spirituality, simple, ethical living and most important keeping God first in my life! You are such a beautiful, kind, loving and fun soul. What I love most about you is that you are so original in what you do and that you do you! And that’s inspiring! Since I stumbled on your channel, I have watched probably all your videos and I honestly love all of them. I can relate to so many things that you are representing from thrifting to keeping God first in my life. Thank you for shining your light in this world. Thank you for all your inspiration!
And as far as early Christmas shopping yaaaay! More power to you! That’s what I do also and it honestly saves me a ton of stress and anxiety. I loved all the things that you bought for your children and I love the fact that you said at the end of your video what Christmas is truly about : Jesus! Many people forget that and get lost in the trap of getting gifts they can’t even sometimes afford! Or just make it all about gifts and shopping! And that’s sad plus I believe that in today’s society a lot of children are spoiled and ungrateful because we do not teach them otherwise . I have a son and he will be getting only a few items this Christmas and the emphasis will be on teaching him the real meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of Our Lord and Savior!!!! And that’s a real reason to celebrate !!!!
I love you and your family ! May God always bless you and keep you safe!
I love that you are so intentional with your gift giving.
Every year my mom got us an ornament that represents some milestone or an interest we had that year. On the ornament she used a sharpie to write our name and the year (that way they dont get confused between the siblings). Its so cool now to line them up in order and see how we’ve changed
My friend has special boxes for each child where their ornaments are stored. When the child leaves the nest it becomes their starter ornaments for their own tree.
So cool!
Litterly the best gifts video I have seen. You organized personally definitely shows and resonates with me. Lists are probably my favorite thing, my phone is littered with them. Great job editing, it was a joy to watch
Thank you thank you thank you for getting the kids some standard plastic type toys! Instagrammers have sort of ruined me, and wanting everything to be all natural all the time has made it hard for me to get just normal kids toys. I want everything to be natural and boho/minimalist/perfect looking, and it helps me so much to see another stylish minimalist getting some standard toys 😅 I would LOOOOOOOOOVE to see toy storage videos!!!
Hey I love all of your vids! After watching this video I realized that I am a minimalist. I always bought one present for each person. They always gifted me one present for Christmas. I can believe that some people gift 30 presents to just one kid. I’m impressed
You can definitely find dress up clothes online! Melissa and Doug makes beautiful toys and I believe they actually sell a trunk full of different dress up outfits!!! It would be perfect for a group gift! You picked out beautiful gifts Mama! 🤍🤍🤍
This couldn't be more fitting! A Christmas shopping video posted on my Birthday! Thanks so much for sharing Sarah! What a huge encouragement and uplifting spirit you are! Keep it up girl!
I'm always so excited to see that you've uploaded. Your videos are always so calming and they really help me wind down and focus. I love the gifts you got the fam!! Excited for the declutter video. They always inspire me to clean and declutter.
And I'm over here with all my gifts already wrapped and in boxes since early October 🤣
I love shopping according to categories too. We do about five gifts (max). I buy a book bundle second hand for each kid every year, I sew them a new shirt and they get one toy/game/fun thing which is often educational at the same time.
Loving the vibes in this video so far! 🎄
I love your videos and your minimalist lifestyle. You inspire me to be more minimal and intentional in the things I buy and use. I’ve saved many of your videos where you talk about your wardrobe and the brands you love to buy. I plan on building my wardrobe again when I’ve lost the baby weight from our second and final baby, who is 3 weeks old now, and I’m excited to try the brands you swear by. I also find myself purging my house after your decliner videos, so thank you for the motivation to downsize the things we own and the great content you provide otherwise.
First time seeing five gifts per kid. Don't get me wrong, these are great gifts, nothing lavish, and I love how they all have equally good gifts so no one feels left out. But when I was a kid, one gift max was the norm. But I guess different cultures have a different definition of what's minimal. Maybe five little gifts can still be more meaningful than one big gift.
ZY X I think it’s depends on the family and what they can provide financially. I grew up getting a lot of presents because my family can afford it while my husband grew up with lucky 1 gift per child old or new. We have 2 children and we try our best with limiting their presents to 3 equal value toys and a stocking stuffer...plus they get a bunch from their aunts, uncles and grandparents. Everyone is different and it’s ok it’s life.
I just made a similar comment. 5-10 gifts seems like a lot
@@JYYB Very true
@@LauraAnne95 Yes, every family is different.
Wow it’s so interesting seeing all the different comments about Christmas celebrations and gift giving! My father worked extremely hard to get to where he is, his Christmases weren’t the best so he gave my mother, me and my sisters the best christmases ever. He spoils my sisters and he spoiled me when I was younger. At least like 15 presents or more. We were always taught to be grateful and whatever we haven’t used all year and is still in good condition we donate and/or gift to those in need.
You have such a strong personality and that's why I love watching your videos, you are really intentional with everything you do, no doubt I'll get inspiration from this video! 🤗
I'm hoping you can do a video for their reactions on Christmas presents!! that would be fun!
Love your categories for kids gifts, thanks for the inspiration !
My family is going to get, lights, water, food, a roof over their head and most importantly lots of love💕 #notbeingsarcastic just the reality of the times.
Our categories are
- Educational Toy
- Book
- Toy they asked for
- Craft/something creative
-Something they need
and their stockings!
Will we even know the personal gift? Or is it personal between the two of you?🤍🤍🤍I’m so intrigued now!🙃
I got excited looking at all these presents!!!
This was wonderful. Thank you for taking the time :) lovely gifts!
I so appreciated your comments on amazon/shopping local. I cant always make local work and the pressure around that is real!! Thank you 😊
Fun to see your gift choices! Thanks!
Oh mama, I am so excited for this video!
Thank you for that bit in the beginning about how we there’s no wrong way to shop 😊 I was honestly feeling guiltily about shopping from Amazon but now I realize I shouldn’t feel guilty at all ❤️❤️🙌🏼 it’s in my budget and it’s the easiest way to shop for me rn, as my area is in lockdown 😩
I love what you said about shopping on Amazon vs. shopping locally for Christmas. The main thing shouldn't be where you got the gift or how much you buy it's about making someone special to you feel special. That can be done in many ways.
Also thank you for mentioning Katie books, id never heard of them but I am so glad I looked into them! Merry Christmas!
I really love your gift giving philosophy! Thanks so much for sharing. This was a really great video.
Ur personality is everything love uuu
I'm 22 and I'm excited for these gifts. You did such a great job picking them all out. They will love them! Your family is so blessed to have you
This is one of your best videos to date. Super practical and fun! Thanks!
So fun, and so helpful 🤍✨🙌🏼 merry Christmas 🎄 ✝️
I always got the hand-me-downs of friends and family for Christmas, or my parents gifted me an activity. Like being able to join the choir for the next year, or have keyboard lessons. One time she gifted a lost stuffed animal back to me, that was such a good idea :D and when i really loved mango she gifted me a box of mangos :D i also loved that! kids are so happy just about the thrill of opening stuff. When I was older they would support my wishes (like buying a camera) with a little donation of either 20 or sometimes even 50 euro. After 4 years of saving up, I could buy it and was so proud :)
Love all the gifts that you chose for your family
Lots of fun intentional gifts ❤️ thanks for the ideas.
You’re such a powerful woman!! ❣️💛
I don't have kids yet but this was such a great video to show me you don't need to give people so many items for Christmas! You should totally do a decorate for Christmas with me video that would be amazing!? I live in a tiny apartment with my husband, and we have gotten more into minimalism in the last year. So we are trying to find ideas on how to be able to decorate for Christmas but also be very minimal and not spend a ton of money.
I just filmed one of these types of videos! It will be live on my channel Tuesday.
This was great! I took several notes on things I can get for kiddos in my life!
Who else is watching this in august 2021?! And getting so excited! I’m planning my ideas already now thanks to this🤍 and I love the non copy right jingle bells sooo much ugh I’m so into the spirit and it hasn’t even been my birthday yet😂😂 I just love giving❤️❤️
I like how minimal you are with the gifts it is hard for me to bethat way 😂 I go overboard with my daughter the inner child in me comes out
I think that happens to most of us who only have one kid 😕
15 seconds in and I'm so excited 😻 Christmas has come very early in our household, thank you for the early Christmas content x
Precious little gifts!! Ps your hair is looking lovely! 💘
Yeeesss! Loved the "shop how it works best for your fam" encouragement!
I LOVE your channel. We also homeschool, live minimally and try to be as eco-friendly as we can. I love your sense of humor and you always have something I can use even though I've been a minimalist for awhile. Thanks for all your content!
This is beyond helpful. Thank you so much 💓. 💓
I love mornings when I can drink my coffee and watch your videous! You are so inspiring! Thank you so much! God bless you and your family!
Greetings from Romania! ❤️
I loved and enjoyed this so much. Thank you for sharing!! It looks like your kids will have a lovely Christmas 🎄
I am almost 30 and I love that shell purse, haha. So cute!
Hey Sarah. A great group gift could also be magna tiles. Such a versatile toy ❤ You can build pretty much everything with them!
Also, love how you didnt go overboard with gifts. They will appreciate their stuff more!
This was so perfect in stress free thanks for tips
Me and my family have been doing “minimal Christmas”s for years now, and for us that means no gifts 😕
Omg I absolutely LOVE the Katie books!
I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!! It was so nice to see how you shop and to get ideas.
Whenever the kids are old enough, you should definitely watch the Anne of green gables movies with them! (The ones with Megan Follows) My mom and I watched them together when I was younger and we still watch them together as our special thing😊
Ooo what a great tip! I just finished reading Anne of Green Gables with my kids so we will definitely check this out.
I loved all your gifts. I think they’re all very intentional. And I do remember as a kid, I played with the “rings in water” toy. Mine was big. I sat there for hours, until I put ALL the rings on those stakes. Such wonderful memories.
Great video!! I also grew up getting lots of presents and a stocking like you show in this video. Looking back, I am grateful for all the effort my parents put in!
I am loving the list you use to choose gifts
Those pattern blocks just brought me BAAAACK. Wow!!!
I love how intentional your gifts are! I did the same and because we are a sole parent household I got myself a few things.
I loved the video and it gave me lots of ideas so thanks ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey! I loved the video🧣☃️, it makes total sense the way you organize all the christmas shopping... I relate so much because I like to organize my day and the things that I'm going to buy 🛍📝
Sipping Chemex-brewed coffee while I watch this! Excellent gift idea! 👌☕️
This is the Sarah video i have been waiting for!!!😄
Thank you for sharing/reminding what Christmas is all about - Jesus!! That reminder is always needed and refreshing to hear!
Im glad I’m not the only one who says “What’s their face” when thinking of a name
YAY!! I requested this! Thank you Sarah!
We do one thing each of what you want, need, wear and read. It works so well for us we love it.
I just did my local Christmas shopping last weekend! It was so refreshing to be out in the town that I love so much, I could have cried 😂 I'm looking forward to baking and crafts come December now that I have a head start on my shopping. Can't wait to put up the tree next week after Thanksgiving 😍
This is the first video of yours that I've watched but honestly you are so inspirational to me! You're an AMAZING parent, your kids are going to grow up to be so well-rounded!! Just absolutely love everything about this! The gifts are all so cute too! Merry Christmas ❤️
Fantastic ideas! Love the categories
100% relate to the polly pockets! Loved them when I was a kid! I love how you did your shopping
I am living for this content!
Omg those pattern blocks! We never had the boards, just the pieces in an old pickle jar, but we loved putting together intricate patterns.
This is my first video of yours I’ve seen and I’m a little bit in love, you seem so sweet & attentive to your kids - lovely to see! Some of these ideas were fab for my little niece so thanks!
Loved this!!
