I think much more relevant is Windows than Android. The browser alternatives available on maOS and iOS are plentiful, but on Windows, people use Chrome and therefore choose to use Chrome on Android. The sync between platforms is important, so I’m guessing Firefox and Opera now have a real shot to become dominant on Android via Windows.
I think Google has abused the fact that they own Chrome, pulling so much usage data into your ad profile. But I'm also very worried for the UX of Android and my daily browser usage. Chrome is so well integrated into the services I use.
There's an obvious candidate to buy Chrome: Samsung. It's probably the closest company to Alphabet and a tech giant that desperately needs its own software platform. Getting Chrome instantly makes Samsung a much more powerful player in dealing with both Google and Microsoft.
@@mrapollo_17 I actually don't think that being a domestic company is a prerequisite for the DOJ. Obviously, there would be huge regulatory preferences-but that's a given in any case.
This Google anit trust reminds me of when the government broke up AT&T (yes, I'm old). AT&T was huge, but with size comes benefits too, but the government said they were a monopoly and force them to sell off into regional phone companies nicknamed The Baby Bells. The result was for customer telephone service got worse and more expensive depending on which of the Baby Bells you ended up in. So sometimes a monopoly is better for the consumers..
1:26:39 its ironic that if this ep was streamed from podcast rss feed, the dynamic add insertion would insert a massive 5-minute ad right before discussion about no ad for lightning round until now.
My number one takeaway with the Google cases is that we are watching the complete breakdown of capitalism. We have a situation where one company is superior to others because they have more users and services, and instead of saying "let's nationalise these services as it is clearly beneficial to have a singular product", we need government intervention to prop up competitors so that everyone can be slightly worse than Google is now. I genuinely believe America and the American press are so wrapped up in neoliberlism that they don't even notice that this is just an obvious outcome of their economic system - AND THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT TO CONTINUE THAT ECONOMIC SYSTEM. It's treated like an inevitability that "well the government has to do this because... Markets", like there is simply no alternative to their current way of life, or nothing that could be better, so they will just accept their corrupt and broken system.
@Teddward do you genuinely believe that the government doesn't already have the power to influence Google search results? Google might as well have been founded by the CIA.
I don't know about the consolidation of headphones... As someone who cares about sound quality above 'ecosystem' gateway, hadphones from Sony, Sennheiser and Audio Technica are at the top of my list instead of those offered by Samsung or Apple or other ecosystem jails. They may work with their respective phones but I consider more long-term use and I don't tend to use a one-single brand of smartphone so I need the flexibility in accessories to work well with other brands.
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
The Lightning Round is sponsored!!! OH MY!! YES!!!
I actually cannot believe they got the Lightning Round sponsored 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Oh no spoiler warning!!!!! Ha
Lauren is so tapped in, I could see her being an editor in chief one day lol
1:26:39 I can't believe you finally got a real sponsor for lightning round.😂
I just watched the first 2min where Nilay and David talk about the Mac Mini M4 and Lauren is just sitting there like a hostage lmao
24 minute lightning round, great work guys 👍
I hope AWS survives all the traffic coming from that sponsored segment
Honestly my favorite podcasts these days 😂 the lightning round wow
I just don't understand how they force the selling of Chrome without imploding Android and making Apple the new default monopoly

Samsung isn't an American company so that also wouldn't fly with the DOJ but I do agree it does make sense

The problem is that data from the search give Google business advantages that need to be mitigated.
The lightning round is sponsored!!!!!! And AWS at that. Damn. But i need a frame tv sponsor!
1:25:20 Congratulations on your boats everybody 🎉🎉🎉
Hello! My first time watching instead of listening :) Saludos desde Colombia guys !!

I specifically specced out my wife's MacBook Pro to ensure she can have hundreds of Chrome browser tabs open at once.

Government ran search might be the worst idea I have ever heard…

You voted for it
When will we learn that siri will always be terrible
So like, Global Tetrahedron _does not yet_ have the opportunity to buy the Chrome Browser?

"We're way oVerge"
Wouldn’t it be funny if every single browser had its own search engine in five years and users are stuck with that or switch browsers…?
i think yahoo or HP or humane should buy chrome.
The only company which has the free cash right now to give 20 billion $ for Chrome - Berkshire Hathaway

Google will simply pay the right people to have the case dropped.
Trump cult is going to drop it
Where’s Alex?
She left
"tab assassin" 💅😂😂😂
Yahoo buys Chrome
3:59 Breaking an old IMac is actually making conversion vans live up to their name.
1 hour 50 minutes~ is pretty long time for a show I guess.
I thought Chrome was free
Finally 🎉
Okay maybe Lauren takes over as the third co-host?
She’s very insightful
No one has to buy Chrome, they can be spun off as an independent company.
As they said in this conversation though, how does that company make money?
@@gavinathling They don't have to or they can sell ads like brave or sell data like chrome currently does.
I wish they do, chrome is a spyware if it’s owned for the largest ad company.
🎉
Nilay! Do you see Trump in your nightmares?
I'm completely convinced you people do not know what you're talking about
please get to point sheeesh
