Thank You.
And now, with the book, we find out that it was actually the Fire Lord's idea to tether Roku to the Fire Nation, remind him where he came from. Though Sozin himself didn't like that idea and decided to still give it to Roku, but as a friendly momento.
Roku loved Sozin so much that he kept his hairpiece into the afterlife :(
I mean he died with it on .. just like kyoshi wearing the same clothes she wore while she was living
Makes me wonder how Iroh had it in late season 3 , it was left on Rokus bedside as his home was destroyed by the volcano
@@joshuapearson676 as the comment above me just said, he actually left it in his house to try to stop the volcano. I think when a person dies and is transformed into a spirit, they wear the clothes and items that meant the most to them.
@@joshuapearson676 He didn't, he died wearing pyjamas
@@SpecialOrder935 Maybe an earth bending member of the White Lotus helped Iroh dig it out. That's my guess.

You will teach the avatar, firebending!
@@Wolf10media yes yes, I will teach you.
@@rofeldov.marcossiii6740 Really? That's great!
“Waterbending was especially challenging for me” proceeds to have one of, if not the most impressive water bending feat in the entire show’s 3 seasons
It took him multiple years to do that but yea its true
@@Louis_wezelnot really a knock on roku's character, that's how mastering a bending element works for most people in avatar
@@AvatarM685 i know but it took him longer since water is the hardest to learn for him. His master also didnt want to teach him so he had to stay at the north pole for a couple years
In fairness to Aang and other waterbenders, Roku had all the time he needed to carefully learn all techniques to mastery. The fact he's wearing each nation's clothing in each scene could imply that he was basically immersed in each nation's culture as he learned.
The headpiece is probably the greatest thing about Roku. When the series started, it was just a normal crown ro me. But when this episode came, it had a great significance to Roku's overall story and life.
I swear, Roku is one of those fictional characters I'd love to talk to in real life.
I also wanna talk to Iroh

it's so heartbreaking that Sozin would betray him after all those years. it was the power that got to him
Roku is super powerful. That time he waterbended and knocked his master off the arena is just amazing

And he did that during the daylight too.
And to think water was his weakest element is crazy
Is it just me or does Roku's voice always gives the chills
A commanding presence aided by the jaded tone of voice. Roku probably carried a lot of that guilt into the afterlife of not being able to stop his friend, much less save him from going down the wrong path.
Sozin voice for me "on wedding days we looked to the future with optimism and joy" 😔
Fun fact: Roku's Earth bending Master is Toph's great grandfather
No he's not.
@@markusjordan-2187 he is in a sense, initially it was planned for a guy with his design to be Aang’s master. But they decided it would be Cooler to go with a small girl.
Wait really?
@@AnInkStick Huh.
Sweetness.
@@AnInkStick design was used in the opening too.
Its sweet that Sozin still looked fondly on Roku after all that time. Makes it all the sadder to know that friendship ended in ashes literally.
Don't do this Sozin. Don't challenge me. It will only end badly....Its over
Avatar Roku🔥: ,, In my life, I tried to be disciplined and show restraint, but it backfired when the fire lord Sozin took advantage of my restraint and mercy. If I had been more decisive and acted sooner I could have stopped Sozin and stopped the war before it started, I offer you this wisdom Aang. You must be decisive🔥.
reading this with my voice on it :)
The fact sud is one of toph's early design's and that toph's grandfather taught earthbending to yangchen and kuruk show's that the beifong's are responsible for half a millennium of avatar's
From what I've been reading, we do not actually know who Toph's grandfather is. But her ancestor, Lu, was Jianzhu's earthbending master. And Jianzhu would then go on to teach Kuruk earthbending.
@@YSorrowYouths_Backup interesting, gotta be frank i do not think it ever stated who the mentor's of yangchen were so there's no evidence anyone of the beifong family was involved.also i might have miscalculated since her grandfather would've lived in the era of Roku who already had sud,and kyoshi learned earthbending from her childhood with bandit's (only an assumption since i can't really afford the novel to get informed about it) but the fact lu taught jianzhu earthbending who then went on to teach kuruk still proves that he at the very least contributed to it somewhat going down,if you know what i mean
@@nikolamatejic7596 This is true, and we could also assume that Lu Beifong may have taught Yangchen earthbending, given that Jianzhu lived in both the era of Kuruk and Kiyoshi. We could assume that Lu lived in both the era of Yangchen and Kuruk, until it's confirmed or not, at least.
@@YSorrowYouths_Backup this very likely back's my claim,if Lu taught yangchen and kuruk's mentor, which like i said excludes kyoshi who had earth as her native element, which is why i said "half a century" instead of just "a century",then we got roku who was taught by sud who was mentioned was one of early designs of toph who was originally gonna be a male besides bolin, fast forward to korra who was taught metalbending by suyin (probably was taught earthbending by the white lotus), then it definitely is true that the beifong's have always had the avatars back (atleast from yangchen to korra)for some unknown reason(strange how aang had hallucinations of toph in particular instead of,say, the boulder),so we could suggest that bolin (who has strings tied to opal beifong)would be the mentor or atleast an Allie to the next avatar because i see the possibility of them simply making up someone new,i dunno though
Do you mean, half a millennium of avatars? Cause Avatars themselves live longer than a century lol
Roku and Sozin: From friends to enemies
Aang and Zuko: From enemies to friends
*Best friendships always start off rocky*
Korea and asami: from enemies to girlfriends
@@pracklyy no wives
Considering Zuko was descendant from Sozin(Roku too) and Aang is the reincarnation of Roku it felt like a mending of the rift between Sozin and Roku in a sense. Not to take away from Aang or Zuko's characters though, they made their own choices.
@@AdeptKing Very interesting way to look at it
You mean they had a ‘rocky relationship’?
There needs to be a prequel series that shows the lives of the 6 named Avatars who came before Korra and Aang; Roku, Kyoshi, Kuruk, Yangchen, Szeto, and Salai! I like how the novels and comics have given them more backstory and we got a few episodes featuring some of them, but I want to see them all in an actual show.

Roku and Sozin: Started off as friends and ended up as enemies
Aang and Zuko: Started off as enemies and ended up as friends
Two generations of the Avatar and the Fire Lord
Aang ans Zuko healing generational trauma ❤
I wonder if Zuko ever told Aang that Roku was his great grandfather
Zuko to Aang: “yknow your technically my Great Grandfather.”
Aang: “well, I am 112 years old.”
He does in the comics. Aang says that because of their connection, he and Zuko are family.
In this episode that’s how he found out that he’s related
He does in the comic, when they almost in battle of each other to decide the fate of city
I remember in the comic when Roku told Aang to consider killing Zuko, Aang’s immediate retort was that he was saying this about his own family.
I did not really enjoy that part of the comic it seemed like he was actually going to end Zuko it doesn't seem to be Aang's personality giving everything they've been through it took Katara to calm him down
3:14 Hands down, one of the best moments in the series.

A series with Aang, Katara and the others after the war and the last episode to be after 20 years for them.
kinda wonder why Roku has no team avatar, or it never got exposed
Kuruk had Jianzhu, Kelsang, Hei-ran
Kyoshi had Flying Opera Company and Rangi
Aang had Gaang
While Kora has Krew
Because this episode is focused specifically on Roku's history with Sozin.
Because Roku was based
He says he struggled to master water bending, but he seemed better at it than the other three tbh
the harder the journey, the greater the result
He didn't say how many months/years to perfect that move....he only shows to Aang the end results
He struggled becuase he was a Fire Avatar. His mastery is firebending, so waterbending is difficult.
Aang's mastery is airbending, so earthbending is difficult for him.
He worked a lot of Time to do this. But yes, it s the most powerfull waterbending move on all the serie 😂
@@ShadowbannedAccountAnd That gets threw out the window with Korra
1:58 Monk Gyatso and Roku are like friends
The sad part is that Sozin originally did go to help Roku. If he had truly wanted Roku dead he would have stayed in his palace. He gave in to his intrusive thoughts at the end, but the fact that he wrote about it meant that he likely felt an immense amount of guilt afterward.
3:13 best moment of the whole show
Why didn’t Avatar Kyoshi told Avatar Roku’s that she had a similar problem with a Fire Lord?

One of the best characters of the show. Such a great guide and teacher
Hey! I need Lord Ozai's full life story. Bcoz everyone underestimated him. I heard many fans telling that Azula was better villain than Fire Lord. And anyone can beat the Fire Lord.
However, i thought that he is the most powerful firebender at that time.More powerful than Uncle Iroh.(No offense) We only saw one fight of him and that was with Aang in Avatar State. And we concluded that he was not that much powerful.
well aang fought him with avatar state while he fought aang with sozin's comet, and it boosted fire nation's power 100 times
but yeah, he canonically the most powerful fire bender in avatar universe
You think the other kids in Roku & Gyatso’s Gliding class grew up to be the rest of the Monk Council that told Aang his fate?

Roku best Firebender (my opinion)
Your not wrong of all people you'd know
Roku was already experienced in firebending before he left, and if he was away training for twelve years, does that mean it took him four years apiece to master the other three bending disciplines?
If only earth king doesn't become dictator, make his people suffering, and claimed one of fire island as eart kingdom teritori, sozin never become cold person. If only roku always there for his friend.
