Hey Caleb, fyi on child support in texas, it’s required to pay 20% of their monthly income for child support to the one with full custody. (and an additional 5% for every child) his 13% is far less so sometimes they decide outside of court and it benefits the one who is not the primary caretaker. $400 isn’t a lot to give to the one who is caring for his son every month. the part where she reaches out to him randomly for extra money isn’t right but i can see he does it out of being kind. hopefully she doesn’t continue that habit because he seems like a good person especially him knowing it’s his responsibility to contribute to his son.

    • @cazrick4407
      @cazrick4407 Год назад +32

      Great comment and perspective.
John Adams famously said: “I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain."
What does that mean? Fortunately, America has built to a place where one no longer has to study politics and war to build a safe country to operate within. But this man still needs to study and engage in commerce so his SON has the opportunity to live an artistic dream. As you said, you can skip to the end step by scrimping, saving, and living extremely tightly… but can you do that when you already have a kid? Probably no, that’s probably past now. But he can fulfill his responsibility to his son, build a good life, help his family in Africa, and give his son the choice of things he could never have. It doesn’t mean he’s get to be an actor, but he could be the hero and founder of his entire family. That’s his responsibility.

Hospitals have to write off a certain amount of bills in order to keep their tax status as a charity. A lot of times you can get bills halved or even completely forgiven. I had to have emergency surgery when I was in college and since I didn’t have an income the cost of the entire procedure was waived. They’ll at least be able to work on a payment plan, but if you have medical debt with a hospital always check with their billing department if you get a big bill you can’t pay.

I don't have children but when it comes to child support there really is no asking what are. You spending the money on...the primary caretaker could make tons of money that does not negate that the other parent must contribute to the childs wellbeing. If the parent uses the money for rent that still is important for the child to have a roof over their head. Asking for extra money outside of what he regularly gives however is not okay especially in this situation ( note this comment was made halfway through the episode)

I would argue it does. This guy won't be of any use to his child's Mother if he ends up homeless by paying more than he can. If the Mother is spending it on frivolous items like her own personal cosmetics, or Restaraunts or fast food, I wouldn't be happy. I would want an agreement of where the money goes as well in his shoes.

You can't take blood from a stone. Luckily he has the mindset to get out of it, so it's not like he's a deadbeat.

If I'm giving money for child support I would want an understanding of where it goes. As I've stated, this dude giving all his money to the mom is not the way forward. I agree with you that he should put his wants far on the backburner until he is stable, my point is... bleeding himself dry will not help the kid or himself long run. I like your videos, but there was some bad ‘effective’ advice in this one.
100$ a week for a child is nothing, so you telling a guy (who’s not great at finance) to challenge his baby momma on where that money goes, and threaten to take it away, will not end well for him or the family.
Rather, he should be more involved in the kids life to understand where that money goes rather than skimping his measly $100/wk for a CHILD. I mean, think about the amount he spends on his own video games. Imagine a kid who wants clothes, shoes, groceries, phone, video games, god forbid they play a sport, etc. Just be more involved.

I think he didn’t have the options to “dream” and be an actor simply because he doesn’t have a safety net. We all have dreams but you gotta pay the bills. Also children, that’s the number one path to brokeland when you’re not financially stable. I sponsored my younger brother to immigrate here and the first thing I told him at the airport is children in America are not an option until you’re financially stable, married and thriving.

I saw some comments below, but I have to mention. Child Support isn't about how much income does she make and can't she support the child herself. It is dependent on the amount of time someone has custody over. And each state has different percentage of income requirements by salary amount. If they have a private arrangement separate from the court it's fine. But if he just only paid for necessities he deemed he probably would be back to the courts. If he had more custody of the child than he wouldn't have to pay as much. But please be educated about it before you give financial advice on Child Support.

Going at full throttle, most people don't reach some form of financial security until their thirties if that. Unless we can create a way for people to successfully have kids in their later years, if being 'ready' is a prerequisite for having kids, we'll either need a lot of societal support for parents and kids or we're going to see populations plummet - which is indeed what we're witnessing now

Went to trade school but doesn't like to sweat or get dirty, again what were you thinking? Talks about the oil triggering the drug test but then talks about how he doesn't like to smoke weed as much anymore.
Kids are the greatest thing in out lives, however having one before you are ready is the quickest way to ruin your entire life and maybe even their own. If not agreed on by the parties in advance, the mother is entitled to 20% of his net income for one child in Texas. It does not matter what she makes, if she works, what his rent is, his debts or anything else. Now it's hard to say if that is more or less then what he is paying now but based on the around $2K a month he is making that's around $400 a month he would be required to pay. As his income increases the child support will also, so he should calculate it like a tax, just deduct another 20% off the gross he earns before budgeting. That is not going to leave him much room for school, or another career.
I can tell he really loves his kid, and all in all seems like he would be a great dad but needs to realize the acting career dream died, as did helping the family back home, when he had a kid that he needs to take care of.

He seems like the typical hustler - work as little as possible to live the lifestyle they want. Quit a job making $20/hr to work towards his 'dream job' of being an actor, but only do enough Uber and studies to barely cover the bills. Also, surprised Caleb didn't mention anything about saving money in order to pay his taxes at the end of the year.

Anyone else watching these financial audits and grateful to be in country with a public health care system? Im so blessed for that and grateful for myself and all my loved ones that I dont have to worry about them going into medical debt.

I don’t feel bad for him. He should have stuck to what he came to the country for. When you don’t have focus, you end up in other messy situations. Just learn a trade quick and you’ll get tons of work.

I don't know if this fits, but when he said he likes driving, I thought maybe he could drive semi-trucks, aren't they in high demand? Do a tour, come home and see his kid.
Doesn't fit with his acting career, but at least for the moment, this was something that popped into my head.

Am i understanding this? The man didnt even understand that he had to WAIT until payday for his check? Nobody explained this to him that it would be maybe one or two weeks, or a month (depending on when payday is for that company), before he gets paid, so he quit because he wasn't making money? Sounds like what happened to a guy at my husband's work, not long ago. My husband tried to rectify the situation, but the guy had moved on to a cash-daily job somewhere else already because he had a family to support. I hope this guy figures life in America out, for his kid's sake!

Unfortunately for him, he still has the mentality and beliefs of someone who lives in Africa which is fine, but with his financial situation he doesn’t really seem to realize that those ideals need to go on the back burner while he cleans up his own situation and evolves his own life. Taking care of those around you is great, happy he has that mentality, however he is broke and doesn’t have the money for that expensive choice he is making. Everyone is benefiting off him… but him.

The way Caleb spoke about the baby mamma was out of order. What she earns has nothing to do with how much child support he should pay. And then basically asking for receipts to prove what she spent that money on is disgusting. Though maybe if she did it would shock him into realising kids are expensive.
