I am a new watcher but on the several episodes that I have watched Caleb seems to be coming from a good place and is always helpful in shining a light on where the mismanagement of funds is occurring. I feel like this was possible in the previous episodes that I watched because the people came willing to be honest about their situations and the mistakes that they have made. In this episode I believe it was totally different because the guy did not seem to want to tell the truth and had rolling answers that would conform to the questions that were being asked in a way that would keep him and the actual situation from looking as bad as they truly are. I believe one of the major things that was throwing everything off was the fact that he was dishonest about the amount of income he was making (or projected to make). Excuses usually stand in the way of change.

Types of people to avoid if I was Caleb for interviews: 1. Those that are always bailed out by parents and are not allowed to know financial consequences of their actions. 2. Married couples unless both are on the show. Money is a leading cause of divorce. Impossible for success of one spends like crazy and one doesn't. 3. People with no records. while it's true those who are set up completely by their parents to have no idea what they're doing financially, it's a lot of us and some of us actually want to make a way for ourselves despite how tough it is. when we finally understood what our parents had done for us to have this option, it wasn't hard for me to decide to want to change, but a lot of my peers in my family are gonna ride it out until they can't. which in a family oriented culture, it may not happen until someone dies.
Scrolling through the comments so I can handle the secondhand stress I feel from this conversation and not have to pause and run away. but honestly, the moment he said direct marketing, MLM alarm bells started ringing in my head because I'm like, isn't that one of the pseudonyms for mlms? :/ I can forgive Caleb for not picking up on it this time (though I wish he had off, but honestly i cant be too mad), but Caleb, I implore you to research mlms so you are prepared for it the next time it comes up because I guarantee it will. the last week tonight episode on multi-level marketing is a great place to start
No amount of additional income is going to help this very difficult, unfortunate, and sensitive family situation. Agree with Caleb that sorting out the root cause right now as the most urgent issue and getting onto the same page with the specific dollars and cents in and out within the family is the biggest challenge.
He’s very defensive and it’s awful that he’s having medical issues but he seems like he loves to use it as an excuse for everything. I don’t understand why people come on this show if they aren’t willing to listen to advice and are just going to have the mindset that they are right about everything.
Firstly, wishing that he can have a speedy recovery and figure out what is happening. Secondly, the voice acting bit had me rolling. Definitely unexpected 😂😂
I’m interested to hear more about the job that got “disbanded” if that was another direct sales job that sounds like it was actually a pyramid, multilevel marketing thing that got shut down
This episode made my head hurt but in the best way ever. Defo one of the most frustrating yet entertaining episodes yet. I couldn’t stop laughing at every sigh followed my an “as I said before” 😂. Good job Caleb for remaining calm and patient 💞
He can't admit to anything, is very offensive and aggressive towards your questions. He needs to realize he can't be helped until he is willing to listen and accept help. He has a "plan" and he just wants you to agree to it. There is nothing wrong with admitting you have made stupid money choices....we all have...but until he can do that and truly listen and be advised he will continue to make the same mistakes and never get ahead. I felt for you on this one. He was not even wanting to listen, he just wanted to talk and have you agree with him.
He(interviewee) was all over the place and there wasn't clear communication between him and Caleb. Too many stories . I don't see any "stupid" money choices. Just a young kid with no job/ low pay and lucky no major overhead. The person here is missing a bunch of information and needs to start tracking his money better. Hope the interviewee will track his money better and Caleb do a revisit in say 6 months. I hope this guy gets his medical stuff taken care of. I feel like most medical bills are on low interest and the hospital works with you in terms of repayment.
Credit to Caleb for listening to this guy ramble. Pretty clear that there was no preparation. Seems like he was looking for Caleb to perform a miracle to get his stuff together.
He's too busy pointing fingers to stop and realize that as an adult, he needs find a solution and not a scapegoat. I learned more about his family drama than his income to help pinpoint where yo start helping.
He’s got a lot of nerve throwing his Grandmother (and Uncle? Lmao!) under the bus when he doesn’t have a real job. If she’s so draining on the family finances then maybe he should pitch in for his Mom. He’s delusional if he thinks anyone believes he has an income right now
My heart goes out to him and everyone else dealing with medical issues. It’s so difficult to maneuver on top of other life problems. Wishing for your recovery!!
Regarding where the money's going and the interlinked household, it sounds like basically he's helping out as much as he can when he can, which varies quite a bit month to month, and that money may in turn go to food, medical bills, or just general household expenses. I think it's super unstructured and informal, which is pretty common and normal in a lot of households/families.
My mom babied me for so long, siphoned thousands of dollars from my acct. it’s a tough talk but as an individual, I needed to do that. My mother is still delusional telling me she deserves it for taking care of me
This man is in no place of saying his grandmother or mother are not good with money. I hope he can get a real job. I hope his medical conditions improve.
As an aspiring voice actor as well, flight attendant is the WORST day job. You have to audition almost every day to even get indie work. He is so lucky to already be living in Texas where so much anime dubbing is. I think he needs to continue pursuing a work from home job so he can switch to auditioning after work.
this guy cannot answer ANY questions about his finances. bruh get it together! figure out how much you owe each month instead of waffling with Caleb. caleb you did a good job navigating this mess considering he kept giving you the run around
I’m not sure how you can financially plan someone’s life when they don’t know how much is coming in vs going out and also claim to make an income but the proof shows no income. Frustrating for sure.
I’m rootin for the kid. He probably feels like the worlds closing in on him. Low or no income, unknown medical issues in his 20’s, it must feel pretty overwhelming. He needs to get a remote job and either start paying off debt or saving money to move out, bc that family situation sounds like it’s not helping
Hey Caleb. Normally if there is hospital debt they are privately owned therefore they do charity and all he has to do is show proof of income and it’s below a certain threshold and they can write it off so he doesn’t owe anything…
I had a similar experience back in the 2000s. I was billed about 10k for an ER visit, My mom and I talked to one of their financial people. I was unemployed (this was during the financial crisis) and basically couldn't pay much of anything. They wrote off 8k of it, and then put me on a payment plan of $20/month. Once I found a job I paid off in a few months.
He should call the hospital and ask about charity care. They will write off all or a portion of debt based on income. Also, look into the no surprises act. It went into law at the beginning of 2022 and requires healthcare systems to provide a good faith estimate prior to providing care (when the patient specifically requests the estimate). Even if the bill runs over the estimate, the medical provider has to stay within a certain %/$ amount of the estimate.
Thank you for this tip. as somone who has signed that form each time at a doctors visit I still didn't understand I had to specifically ask for the estimate. also a good reminder to read before you sign XD
What stops the sky from getting a normal retail job? Then you wouldn’t have to rely on commission you could make probably more than $35,000 a year doing retail.
Pretty sure he has no income. Most of his debt could be eliminated in a couple months with a stable job an maybe a side hustle. Thats the real sad part.
He hasn’t paid much debt off the past 3-6 months nor does he have much in expenses. If his income is variable, there should be some months where he makes 5-6k. Where does it go?
My husband had similar issues with his esophagus and trachea. He has had extensive surgery to deal with the scar tissue regrowing in his trachea, narrowing his ability to breathe. He also has a tendency to choke on food. His father would choke and need to be heimliched once a week at least. Terrifying! My husband is a Mtn biker/road cyclist at higher elevations, so there is success out there in treatments for this type of thing. Hope this young man gets his health issues resolved.
I get the feeling he just wanted to be on the show to just be on the show. I think everything he says is skirting around reality(let’s be honest, he’s lying) or he has no clue. There isn’t any point in getting advice to fix a fantasy or fake life.
Not sure why Caleb brought this guy in. Sure I get to have content but how can someone do a financial audit with someone who has no income. Commission checks is not income.
Commission checks is income. Some people make more in commission than base salary. And with proper planning and modest projection, you can have a real budget. The problem here is that I don't even think there's any real commission coming in. This smells like an MLM and he has blinders on, and is unwilling to admit reality
this video breaks my heart, sending him and everyone going through a difficult health condition all the love and all the strength, you're gonna get out of it as a much wiser/resilient person. Great story to remember why building a good emergency fund is so critical
Sorry for this guy because medical issues are tough. If anyone needed to do the envelope system, it is him. He is a bad interview though. He didn't even bring in a last paystub. I get it that he is running all cash but he doesn't even have a budget or clue where his money is going. He is either that CLUELESS about his finances or he is lying. If he is being truthful, he has over $2,000 a month on average to pay off the debt he has because he has NO BILLS. He should get his own medical insurance through the marketplace or though a job that offer it. His mom is likely paying a huge amount for him to be on her insurance. Companies let their employee get on the health insurance for cheap but charge steep prices for dependents. I love the format Caleb uses to break down someone's finances. He can't do that for someone like this who has no records. I hope Caleb sets some sort of criteria that guests must meet in order to do future interviews. It just feels like a waste compared to the others. I would just grade it INCOMPLETE.
One of the most dangerous positions to be within your personal finance is not being able to accept you are in a bad position. I hope he will eventually realize this. Commenting for the YT Algorithm Pt.36
His situation does not seem that complicated he just either doesn’t have the will to look into it, or doesn’t want to make any changes. He’s hiding behind the statement that his finances are complicated. If Caleb had all the information, I think it would be fairly simple to create a plan.
Guy doesnt tell you what the uber's are for other than 100% required (he could walk, bike, take bus), buys fast food for lunch, doesnt give accurate salary info, doesnt tell how much he contributes, music and tv subscriptions, can use the free versions...
Caleb you dissected this the best you could, i was lost as much as you were, i cannot find any debts when it came to the Uber trip snacks, "ubers are for where you need to go" he just doesnt know where he spends his money.
More he likes to make excuses. The entire episode was making excuses and saying things that were meaningless or made no sense. Like repeating “Navy Federal”. Like Caleb said, “ what does that mean?” This right here is an example of why most American families do not create generational wealth and why the debt is insane in this country. Lack of education, lack of personal responsibility, and lack of work ethic, lack of honesty within the family and within themselves.
I’d recommend contacting the hospital’s financial service department. They often provide money to those who can financially qualify. It requires some paperwork, but if you tell the facility you cannot pay, they will make sure they get at least SOME money from you.
pertaining to the stuck together situation: when your parent passes away. trust me. your family stays mentally stuck that the child who lost their parent is completely helpless and enabled to do whatever they want because they will never recover emotionally. I understand it's not easy, but, I am going to be okay even with mom not here. but it took breaking hearts to relieve my family from their concerns, but the worst case scenario is something like this, where I couldn't explain the beginning of my life because we keep circling to my family's hardships, they can't see past the trauma.
For the Navy Fed thing that he was talking about - they have a kind of basically prepaid credit card that can help you build your credit score. We did that for my husband. You put down a certain amount of money, and that's your credit limit. We started small with about $200, and then he would use it to buy gas. Then every month he would pay it off. It's helped him really boost his score because he was able to build a good credit history through that card. That may have been what he was talking about because with that prepaid card it's hard to abuse.
@Antonio Orellana oh no for sure, and it's no risk for the financial institution because they already have the initial money to cover. I wasn't sure if other places had them. We got my spouse's from Navy Fed. That's what made me think of it since the young man's uncle suggested going to them for a low risk credit card.
Most financial institutions have secured credit cards. Navy federal isn’t special for this. His uncle told him something vaguely interesting and he just ran with it lol
I understand where he works and they make no money. As a marketing minor in college I was looking for a paid internship and was contacted by a “direct marketing” company. They wanted us to essentially stand in various superstores trying to sale products/services to shopping customers. We would basically follow customers thru the aisles asking them questions. It was weird and slimy and I quit after the first day. Made $0 because it was all commission, and no one wants to change cable company’s near the bbq grills at Menards 😂😂 (no big surprise there) He needs to find a real job. I’m sure he’s going to work, just not making anything
Yeah he’s definitely in a MLM, if you all get a chance watch some anti-MLM content on RUclips. Hannah Alonzo and CC Suarez are my favorite Anti-MLMers’. They explain more in detail about these predatory companies brainwashing you and you still don’t make money, it’s insane!! Either way, I hope his health gives better and he just gets a stable 40 hour a week W2 job!
You gonna take out debt to get a car? No. What's going to happen is that when I'm more stable, I'll get a loan to get a car and they'll help me get more 🤔🤔🤔🤔
The repeated “Like I told you before” …. idk how you stay so calm

His voice is actually amazing lol I could totally hear him being an audiobook narrator
No amount of additional income is going to help this very difficult, unfortunate, and sensitive family situation. Agree with Caleb that sorting out the root cause right now as the most urgent issue and getting onto the same page with the specific dollars and cents in and out within the family is the biggest challenge.
He's in an MLM and has never made $35k a year
He’s very defensive and it’s awful that he’s having medical issues but he seems like he loves to use it as an excuse for everything. I don’t understand why people come on this show if they aren’t willing to listen to advice and are just going to have the mindset that they are right about everything.
He's lying about the medical.
Cuz they just want a quick fix not change.
If “as I mentioned before” was a person. 😂
Firstly, wishing that he can have a speedy recovery and figure out what is happening. Secondly, the voice acting bit had me rolling. Definitely unexpected 😂😂
there's a bunch of holes and disconnected information because he's not being fully transparent and not willing to really accept the situation...
Legit every time I watch these videos I'm looking at my own finances with LinkedIn open 😂😂
I’m interested to hear more about the job that got “disbanded” if that was another direct sales job that sounds like it was actually a pyramid, multilevel marketing thing that got shut down
Yeah dude is def in an MLM….direct marketing…..no money…..come on
Get out of direct marketing now!! Might as well be an MLM.
It IS a MLM.
This episode made my head hurt but in the best way ever. Defo one of the most frustrating yet entertaining episodes yet. I couldn’t stop laughing at every sigh followed my an “as I said before” 😂. Good job Caleb for remaining calm and patient 💞
I lost the will to care after "Navy Federal" ...
That’s how mlm dude operate they never direct
I highly doubt the hospital AND his student loan company are just like “yeah, just pay whatever you feel like every month. We don’t really care. “.
And how does he pay monthly when he cash all his checks
His student loans technically could be, if they are federal and were in deferment
Credit to Caleb for listening to this guy ramble. Pretty clear that there was no preparation. Seems like he was looking for Caleb to perform a miracle to get his stuff together.
I know I'm 3 months late to this episode but when he said he was "highly coachable" I died laughing
🤣💀🤣💀🤣
He's too busy pointing fingers to stop and realize that as an adult, he needs find a solution and not a scapegoat. I learned more about his family drama than his income to help pinpoint where yo start helping.
He’s got a lot of nerve throwing his Grandmother (and Uncle? Lmao!) under the bus when he doesn’t have a real job. If she’s so draining on the family finances then maybe he should pitch in for his Mom. He’s delusional if he thinks anyone believes he has an income right now
Lol at the irony of him saying his grandmother is not very “financially sound.”
Why does this guy get on the show if he thinks he has the answer for everything? Dudes in denial, but ends with “I’m highly coachable”
My heart goes out to him and everyone else dealing with medical issues. It’s so difficult to maneuver on top of other life problems. Wishing for your recovery!!
he’s so rude and defensive and that’s exactly why he will remain in the situation, because he’s not willing to change. You can hear it
This dude knows more about everyone else in his family's situation and what they should do rather than his own.
Yes I'm like wtf did gmas health/money come from at the last 5-10 mins of the video
He should start a fiver for the voice acting! A great way to start and get paid!
Agreed, he just needs to buy a mic and post some clips on Fiverr. There’s a ton of work out there if he’s interested in going in that direction.
Good idea, he's really good. I wish him well.
My mom babied me for so long, siphoned thousands of dollars from my acct. it’s a tough talk but as an individual, I needed to do that. My mother is still delusional telling me she deserves it for taking care of me
You can do it man. Going to have to work and separate yourself from your mother and grandmother
"You're gonna have to say that, other than just the name, what does that mean?"
"Navy Federal Credit Union"
🤦
“highly coachable” but interrupts you every 5 minutes and has no answers to your direct questions
This man is in no place of saying his grandmother or mother are not good with money. I hope he can get a real job. I hope his medical conditions improve.
I have a meeting interrupting me from watching. So, so rude.
Wow! Very rude!
@@CalebHammer I know, right? Lol it ended so starting now 😜
As an aspiring voice actor as well, flight attendant is the WORST day job. You have to audition almost every day to even get indie work. He is so lucky to already be living in Texas where so much anime dubbing is. I think he needs to continue pursuing a work from home job so he can switch to auditioning after work.
i don’t really understand how he’s seeing drs all the time but can go and become a flight attendant?
He just need a steady income and the rest will fall into place.. hell fast food retail just a known check
Forreal!
this guy cannot answer ANY questions about his finances. bruh get it together! figure out how much you owe each month instead of waffling with Caleb. caleb you did a good job navigating this mess considering he kept giving you the run around
I’m not sure how you can financially plan someone’s life when they don’t know how much is coming in vs going out and also claim to make an income but the proof shows no income. Frustrating for sure.
Still waiting to know why Navy Federal is the best 🤣
I’m rootin for the kid. He probably feels like the worlds closing in on him. Low or no income, unknown medical issues in his 20’s, it must feel pretty overwhelming. He needs to get a remote job and either start paying off debt or saving money to move out, bc that family situation sounds like it’s not helping
Poor snowflake
💯
Bro is more defensive than a Brinks yard sign
Hey Caleb. Normally if there is hospital debt they are privately owned therefore they do charity and all he has to do is show proof of income and it’s below a certain threshold and they can write it off so he doesn’t owe anything…
This worked for me in Ohio. I had to prove I made less than $60K and like 80% of my debt was written off.
He's likely making it up. He just needs a convenient lie cause he needs to move up in his MLM
His voice was actually pretty good when he did the voice acting part
Isn't mlm kinda another word for pyramid scheme?
Basically
I’m curious why he stays in an MLM when he can work remotely doing text-only customer service jobs.
I cannot believe you got a 45 minute episode out of this. Impressive Caleb. You've changed the way I go about finances.
One way you can tell when someone is lying is when they all of a sudden start getting the sniffles 😂
I've never been so confused while watching one of these episodes
My husband had similar issues with his esophagus and trachea. He has had extensive surgery to deal with the scar tissue regrowing in his trachea, narrowing his ability to breathe. He also has a tendency to choke on food. His father would choke and need to be heimliched once a week at least. Terrifying! My husband is a Mtn biker/road cyclist at higher elevations, so there is success out there in treatments for this type of thing. Hope this young man gets his health issues resolved.
He’s in big trouble. He’s in denial and isn’t facing reality. He is making mistakes that will cost him decades of pain.
I get the feeling he just wanted to be on the show to just be on the show. I think everything he says is skirting around reality(let’s be honest, he’s lying) or he has no clue. There isn’t any point in getting advice to fix a fantasy or fake life.
He needs a real job. End of story. Walmart, target, gas station. Anything.
He needs to apply at a dealership and start selling cars. And do Doordash when his mom doesn’t need her car
He needs to get an SSI check and focus on his health!!!
Financial literacy is beyond important, it really should be taught from grade school until you graduate high school
Like Caleb said, “ what does that mean?”
This right here is an example of why most American families do not create generational wealth and why the debt is insane in this country. Lack of education, lack of personal responsibility, and lack of work ethic, lack of honesty within the family and within themselves.
He seems like a compulsive liar...
Lol it’s called a SECURE CREDIT CARD lol not prepaid ; but I get it
Most banks and financial institutions have this available
Most financial institutions have secured credit cards. Navy federal isn’t special for this. His uncle told him something vaguely interesting and he just ran with it lol
I understand where he works and they make no money. As a marketing minor in college I was looking for a paid internship and was contacted by a “direct marketing” company. They wanted us to essentially stand in various superstores trying to sale products/services to shopping customers. We would basically follow customers thru the aisles asking them questions. It was weird and slimy and I quit after the first day. Made $0 because it was all commission, and no one wants to change cable company’s near the bbq grills at Menards 😂😂 (no big surprise there)
He needs to find a real job.
No. What's going to happen is that when I'm more stable, I'll get a loan to get a car and they'll help me get more
🤔🤔🤔🤔
Because Navy Federal.
The topic about buying water was hilarious he just blew off the idea of a brita like its beneath him lol
whenever you question him on something where this is a lack of evidence, he goes into defensive mode
we back! hammer time 🔨🔨
and didn't he say he cashes his checks? So we don't really know how much he spends
He needs to get a Real job that pays
Hourly legally
None of these
pyramid schemes
I’m getting HUUUUUUGE MLM vibes. He’s definitely in an MLM.
Aww I hope his health gets better 🙏🏻He surely has talent for being a voice actor.
