    I have owned quite a few telescopes during my life. I would definately recommend an 8" DOB to pretty much anyone! For visual use it is the perfect combination of portability and aperture. Get a few quality eyepieces and an OIII filter and you are set for life.

      I can definitely confirm this comment, just not the OIII filter.
      Get a UHC filter instead. Ive compared UHC, OIII and H-beta filters at the eyepiece on around 25 different nebulae and the UHC Filter always came out as the best. OIII always close second. H-beta... yknow everyone says its only useful on a handful of targets? Well not even that is true. H-beta is not a good filter at all. It consistently came in the worst by a long shot.
      Everyone says the H-beta is useful to see the horsehead nebula, the cone nebula, etc right?
      Wrong. With the H-beta filter i wasnt able to see those most of the time. The best was the UHC Filter. It takes time and patience to see the HH but the H-beta filter removed it from my view everytime. Swapped to the UHC and it immediately came back.
      Same applies to the other 2 and both Veil Nebulae and so on.
      SVbony UHC is a no brainer, just buy it.
      Omegon H-beta... dont even look at it.
      Lumicon gen3 OIII... it depends. If your transmission line certificate is above 95% at 500nm, keep it. If not, immediately send it back. There have been a lot of duds.
      Its also a narrowband filter so you must be sure if you actually have a use for it. In most cases, same for the H-beta, the answer is no.
      If you decide to get a H-beta filter anyways, make sure your aperture is at least 12" or else it will literally ruin your view and you pay 150€ for it.

    My first scope was an Orion xt8 dobsonian that I got pretty much by chance because it was the cheapest one at the only store in seattle that sells used ones. I had the mirror re coated for about 120 dollars with up graded aluminum. The views I got of Saturn were spectacular and at star parties everyone said mine was the best and there were teleview refractors there. I could see the gap in Saturn's outer ring.

    Hello Tiago! Since I have the same TS-GSO 8" dob just like yours, I'd like to ask: can you get a clear focus on the 2" 30mm Superview eyepiece (the default ep) without using the 35mm focus extender (also came with the telescope)? I'm my case, the Crayford's 41mm max. protrusion lenght is just not enough, an extra 2 or 3 mm is needed to get focus. So I have to use the extender, or else (since the 30mm SV's neck is quite long) I just don't insert the eyepiece fully into the focuser and leave an extra 8-10 mm out. Is it normal, or my 30mm SV has some issues? The views are O.K. once I get focus btw. I didn't find any peculiarities with my 1,25" eyepieces, they just work well when fully inserted into the focuser.

    • @DobsonianPower
      @DobsonianPower  2 года назад

      Yes i can. No problem with your focuser. You can do this: 1-screw more your collimation screws to move the primary mirror down and it will move the focal plane down or/and 2-use a M48 spacer permanently in that eyepiece so you don't need to use extension or adjust the eyepiece. I use those spacers in my eyepieces to have them parfocalized.

    • @user-hn1gw1gt7d
      @user-hn1gw1gt7d 2 года назад

      @@DobsonianPower Thank you sir! I didn't know the primary mirror has that much play to move up and down and the collimating screws has the lenght to do this. (It's like focusing a Cassegrain - haha - well almost...) I think, I'm going to go with the parfocalizer ring first, I don't feel myself confident enough to fiddle with the primary mirror that much yet. I'm just before my first collimating, so I think I'd better get some experience first.

    • @DobsonianPower
      @DobsonianPower  2 года назад

      @@user-hn1gw1gt7d That's fine! Yes it may have some play as long as we don't allow the screw to touch the primary mirror but we can see that easy wit the eyes or/and the fingers.
