The whole video is great until OMG 😶 at 11:43. These cars have hydraulic timing chain tensioners. The timing chain guides are a type of plastic. That noise you hear at 11:43 is the slack in the timing chain. ALWAYS disconnect ignition controller, crank the car until the oil pressure gauge builds to about half way then reconnect it. Start the car. The noise won’t happen 😅 if the chain slaps the guide, breaks the guide, the tensioner then digs into the chain, the chain breaks, the engine is gone.
That was what was on sale - joke. I used to use heaver oil in the summer but my other friend who work at a MB dealer told me the 5w - get to the bearing faster. So I put that in all my cars.
I have the exact same color scheme but 1988. With 219k after seeing this i might change the oil myself. What does the pressure supposed to read. After it warms up sitting at the light it drops to below 2 as soon as I start driving it hits 3
Nothing says Mercedes more than doing your oil change while wearing a Rolex. 😂 At least I think you were wearing one. The video is SD so a tad to soft to see detail.
You are right. There is a big difference between oil filters. I watched a video on oil filters and this guy cut several of them into pieces and explained each one.
Thank you - from a 1990 530sel owner
Not very hard.
What does an oil change cost at the dealer or repair shop.
Thank you David. Great video, changed my oil in my 420SEL following your instructions.
And you thought it was going to be hard.
Thanks for uploading the video. Your video was very helpful to change oil on my car, 1988 500SL. Thanks!!!
Save a lot of money doing it yourself.

Good to know, thanks
Had a buddy have a timing chain break on a his 420SEL a few years ago. Almost $9k to get it fixed. Had to redo the entire top end.

@@Mark7thH yeah when that happens it is OUCH!!
I was wondering, why 5w-30? Isn't it recommended only for cold winters?

I have 222,000 miles. That is the standard of dropping to 2 or lower but when you hit the gas, it goes back up. This is not that hard.

I wear my Rolex most of the time. Why not.
Does the oil change apply to a 560 SL?
Same thing but larger engine.
Not being rude, but Fram is absolute junk. At least get a Wix. I always order Mann filters for my 420SEL.

is the video shot with 1990 camera lol?
Yes, it works very good, the files are not that big, easy to transfer, and Google reduces the resolution anyway.
