Currently sorting a 1999.5 JDM Mk4 GTI. The VAG tax is real. It costs double or triple to do almost anything on this economy VW as an equivalent corolla.
Kennan said that it cost $52k brand new. It's nowhere near the maintenance cost when buying an expensive luxury car. It's more like maintaining an Audi. My 2018 Macan has been entirely problem-free, and I suspect the $15k cost savings over a new CR-V will pay for 7-8 years of maintenance costs.
They're quite reliable. And the Macan will always have some value while also depreciating slower than the Honda. The Honda will be worthless in 10-15 years
True but first you need to spend the money on repairs that a new car depreciates. You can go a long way with 20k repair budget on a macan. In the end it might be even cheaper than a new honda..
There should definitely be a follow up comparing new car to new car. A fully loaded Camry vs a base BMW or Mercedes are similar prices and worth a comparison
Or 2 from the same year, same parent company, and the same production line. Base Cadillac vs most luxury Chevy, Lexus vs Toyota, Macan vs Tiguan, etc. I anticipated that kind of comparison from the title.

As a Macan Turbo owner, every time I get back in it after driving a "normal car" I'm reminded of what is so special about Porsche. Pure driving quality.
Agreed. It's just so refined. I traded in my 2016 Focus RS for a CPO 2020 Macan Turbo back in December and while the Macan has been excellent as it's like basically just a bigger, hotter hatch, sometimes I really miss the RS. It was an extremely enjoyable car.
That is not the comparison they try to do here, of course a Porsche performs much much MUCH better than a Honda when it comes to speed & acceleration. BUT, this video is trying to compare them economically, and economically a Honda depreciates slower & way way WAY cheaper to maintain. That $15k difference won’t cut it, since spending a few thousands on maintaining a luxury car per year is a reality.
this is a topic that is actually what a lot of first time car enthusiasts think about on a day to day, so thank you! it could probably even be scaled to other types of cars
@@mihirshah2940 find a CPO one, or bite the bullet and spend ~$3k on an extended bumper to bumper warranty and call it a day… even if you get something with a bulletproof powertrain like a B58 Bmw with zf 8 speed, something else is bound to break. Many of us just want a reliable car to get to the much more exciting things we do that aren't governed by speed limits and other limitations and cost a lot less to maintain
@@jake424k sure but you can find something just a little bit exciting that still gives you practicality and reliability. @@jakes5530 you're still assuming that everyone WANTS something exciting to drive. many people are more excited about having something that isn't exciting to drive. many people get more excited about getting places using less fuel than they ever have in their lives than by quick acceleration. every car built today can exceed reckless driving speed limits. not everyone is you. in fact, only you are you.
Fun fact about the CRV not having blind spot monitoring. Due to a supply/shortage issue, the Honda plant in Canada apparently didn't have the component/chip to add the BSMS to the CRV, so they just sold a bunch of models without it.
I feel like most people who watch Doug's videos are middle-class blokes who probably will never buy a used $30k Macan, but it's always nice to know that those cars are achievable. Filippo has always been the King of Economy cars, but bless him so much for him being like 'It's Drives, it's a good car!'
As I crossed shopped Mid Size SUV’s.. what I noticed was this.. All manufacturers have stepped their game up.. You can’t really go wrong with any of the major brands at this point. From Honda to Porsche and all the in between.. The 3 biggest factors for me as an enthusiast and family man. Driving experience, finance Rates, maintenance.. BMW, Mazda, Porsche were my favorites during the experience of buying. BMW X3 M40 and Mazda CX-5 ended up in my garage
That's interesting, my parents have a 2020 X3 30i and I helped them decide what to buy (they had 2012 X3 before). We test drove the GLC, XC60, CX5, Macan and some comparable Jaguar. Both my parents and I came to conclusion that only the X3 is worth buying (and I hate SUVs). GLC was terrible, poor interior quality, poor ride quality, it has way less room inside and it doesn't look too good. It has great infotainment system tho. XC60 was even worse - it was comfortable but that's all good I can say about it. Driving it was so bad that I wasn't even sure the steering wheel is even connected to the wheels. Awful car to drive. So was the CX5. It looks OK but feels super cheap compared to BMW. Macan was the most fun and more comfortable than X3 but way less room for passengers and the price was wayyy to high. It seems OK as a base model but it has literally nothing. When you start adding options it's like 30% more expensive than X3 which is definetely not worth it. And that Jaguar was so bad I don't even know what to say about it, just garbage car they should be ashamed of selling at that price point. If it was like 25% of its price it would be OK, but just OK. So the only midsize SUV or crossover or whatever these cars are called that I find worth buying is an X3 Oh, and I forgot about Q5. We test drove Q5 and it's the same as Jaguar, pure garbage. And I tend to like Audis.
I'm the most sincere way: what did you genuinely enjoy about the Mazda? Three of my buddies got CX5s within like 3 months, so I rented one for a week to see if I'd like it. I found the gearbox to be intolerably uncooperative, even in Sport Mode. For being an SUV it was a little small, not only physically (I am 6'2) but also only about 6cft more cargo space than my current Volvo V70 and obviously way less than my Nissan Frontier (Nismo btw🤓). In Mazdas's defense: their BlindSpot monitoring is better than every APac vehicle I've driven, truly excellen, but not as good as topteir EU or American systems (GMC was shockingly good, better than BMW imo). But that's the ONLY thing I remember finding objectively "good". Not a fan at all, probably third worst car I've driven after the Kia Soul and Dodge Dart and top 5 least practical SUVs. So I ask again will full sincerity: what DID you like?
⚠️ You guys keep saying that no one would cross shop these 2. Actually, this is the PERFECT video and here's why... Many of us car enthusiasts also have wives, and kids, and other bills, ON TOP OF the shop bills from all the stuff we do to our cars (be it mods or repairs). The economy is getting tighter and my wife is getting tired of $3k repair bills at my local German indy shop. Now it's time to get a new car. She wants me to "consider" the Honda Pilot. I told her she'd have to bury me in one to see me in it. I want a used Cayenne. I went to test drive one to appease her and you know what? It wasn't bad. It's no Cayenne, but it's not bad. Now I'm faced with going with something fun and special but expensive to repair, or go buck-mild and choose the old faithful people hauler. I really don't care about the badge on the front, but I do want a special experience.
Until next week's topic: How many driveable cars from the same era and brand can I buy for any one of Doug's. The Carrera GT is worth at least 40 of its era's high mile east coast kept Boxsters😂
Seeing that the CRV didn't have a power liftgate, that is NOT a fully loaded model. The Sport is the base model while the Sport Touring is the top trim. This is already not a good comparison.
Oh, thanks for that, i thought i misheard Kennan and thought he said something about "envy rage", as in, would someone driving the Honda feel envy over the Porsche, hah, i was way off then.
@@simonburkeisableYou have to do your own work and shop for aftermarket parts that are as good if not better than OEM. When you need OEM, but from a discount OEM retailer.

It's a shame you didn't actually get a "Fully Loaded Economy Car" ... The Sport Touring trim, is the top trim and adds so much more luxury! Top of the line Bose sound system, leather sits and steering wheel, everything is soft touch and not plasticy, sit and steering wheel warmers, wireless charging, automatic trunk open with just kicking under or 1 button push..... etc. I personally own the 2025 CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring and I love it! Has all the luxury you need with all the reliability and efficiency of Honda!
I like this video. You presented a comparison between two completely different vehicles that were never meant to compete against each other but a comparison that more buyers should consider. Good job Filippo and Kennan. Can you create more content like this?
This video is good, but do one where you compare a fully optioned economy vs a base luxury. This was not that, so like a platinum Highlander vs base tx. That’s kinda what I expected
Agree. That’s what I thought we were getting from the thumbnail. Preferably from the same model year/generation and/or both brand new. Still good video. Fun duo.
Yeah, that's what I thought this video was going to be. I was in this situation 6 years ago, comparing platinum highlander with entry level range rovers and jaguars. I ended up with the highlander and I'm pretty happy with it. I think I'd be disappointed with the entry level premium brands because they'd be missing features that I could have had.
Respectfully disagree. It’s pretty placebo, even for me who is a big Mazda fan. I mean HOW much better is the CX-5 with exact same suspension setup to a CRV gonna be? Honda is no slouch in engineering. Doug has openly said many times that he swears blind folded testers wouldn’t be able to tell apart a CX5, CRV or RAV4.
@@emerica21321by setup I assume you mean strut front multi link rear? Do you think they use the exact same parts and spring rates and bushings? A civic type r has struts and multi link and I’m sure you’d agree that it is a different feeling car than a crv. Similar setups can be designed differently. I’m not saying Honda doesn’t have good engineers, they certainly do. I’m saying their priorities are different than Mazda’s and Mazda engineers their cars differently. That’s how much they can be different. I’m also not saying one is better than the other, just that they’re designed differently with different priorities. You’re saying it’s a placebo based on what Doug has said versus literally every other journalist. Doug hasn’t driven a cx5 back to back with other crossovers, as many journalists have for many comparisons tests. When one person is saying something contrary to everyone else, you should really think about it and analyze it. Maybe everyone is wrong but Doug literally doesn’t have the relevant experience that journalists from magazines conducting instrumented tests do.
The chemistry works very well between these two. I enjoyed this segment and look forward to more. I wish the very best of health and happiness to you all and also to your families!
From a maintenance perspective, the 4 cyl Macan is cheaper and easier to maintain than the Turbo V6. Those engines are getting old and are starting to show very expensive oil leaks and timing chain guide issues. If you can get a loaded Macan with a 4 cyl, its a no brainer.
The Porsche looks 10X better also. I mean for $15K less? Imagine seeing someone show up in the Macan and then someone in that Honda, different worlds of class. You get to enjoy owing a beautiful Porsche and enjoy driving a much better driving and fun car. If you spent the same $35K on a used Macan, you could get a loaded and newer one, that would be WAY better than the Honda. I get the Honda, but I would rather enjoy the luxury of the Porsche. I bought a Lexus over a Toyota last time and I'm thankful everyday that I did. Just a way different experience. Not that I'm a show off in the least bit, but cars like Lexus, Porsche, BMW, just make you feel proud.
These are daily driver vehicles, not enthusiast vehicles. For a daily driver, I’d take the Honda without hesitation. But if it were a used 718 Cayman S vs a new civic type R for the same price, I’d be going with the 718. Different use cases, for me, dictate whether I’d go with a high end brand or an economy brand.
Great way to put it. Thing is what if you’re an enthusiast and can only own one car as your situation has it, and you need one car that can do everything? I could see merit for Macan in that case and imagine that’s the scenario here.
@@KNRS927 ahh yeah that’s a good point. If I could only have 1 car, then it would be the Macan between these two. But if that were my situation and I can choose anything, it would probably still be what I currently daily drive. Stinger GT2
We always go for 1-2 years old cars. Can save so much money. Cheapest one was a 13 months old ex-rental Hyundai with 42k miles on the clock. It was like 60% below sticker price. I kept it 11 years, boring as hell, but was super reliable. Latest - 2022 Cayenne with 40k$ discount over a new one. Or about 30%
For me its really imortant that the cars I drive handle good and have power. Thats my number 1 priority. So yeah if I had the budget restraints I would go for old expensive car rather than new cheap car.
2016 Macan S with 116k miles here. . Just preventative maintenance and driving feel wouldn’t trade it for anything. End of a long day i would rather take an exciting drive home than the “just get in and drive” point a to point b commuter .
You can always look for a 15k more expensive Macan which will probably be way better equipped than a Honda with lots of leather instead of vinyl and plastic. Or for 15k more you could probably look for a base Cayenne from the same year, it would be more expensive to maintain tho. 2,0 Macans are very reliable cars.
@@Krzysztof_88the issue I have with the Macan is that it’s still based on the first gen Q5 that came out in 2008, and we’re onto a second gen Q5 and possibly a third in 2025 or 2026. So why get this over the newer version of the car the Macan is based on?
@@KNRS927 Because Q5 is crap compared to Macan. They're completely different cars altough they share the platform. Macan feels nothing like Q5. In fact it's probably the only such example I can name where two cars that share a platform are that different in every aspect. Also I personally don't care if it's based on 2008 Q5 or 2018 Q5 or if its 100% Porsche. If it drives well and has all the modern tech that I'd expect at that price level, I'm okay with its platform beeing old. Not that I would buy a Macan or anything similar but I've driven both Q5 and Macan and I hope you get my point.
@@Krzysztof_88 I get it. I guess Porsche did an amazing job differentiating the Macan then if that first gen Q5 based Macan is still holding up that well. Never knew the Q5 was crap though. We test drove one and it felt really nice, though it was more balanced compared to an X3 and similar cars. So not too sporty, not too plush, if that makes sense. Guess maybe the trim we drove was not a typical one lol.
Easy, if you aren't a car guy go for the Honda. If you are crazy about cars and love the drive and feel when you get behind the wheel go for the Porsche Macan if you can afford the maintenance or if you are a DIY type of person.
Interested if the opinion would change if it was really the loaded CR-V with cooled seats, power tailgate, heated steering wheel, and other things that are missing from this trim, as its not fully loaded. Just a thought, great video!
I had the same decision to make when buying a used car. I could afford the newer base model car, it would be a couple years younger, or I could go a few years older and afford the top of the line car with all the bells and whistles. I ended up buying the nicer car because it had nice things like heated seats, back up cameras, leather seats, navigation, and a sun roof. The newer base model car may have had some nice touches, but it felt so basic and cheap that I couldn't stand it. Would rather deal with a slightly older but nicer car than a newer car but with a cheap interior
Regardless of their current market prices, in my opinion, what this comparison comes down to is expectations. Your expectations getting into a Honda are very low, making exceeding them easy. Your expectations getting into a Porsche are very high, making falling short of them easy. The Honda will always exceed expectations and the Porsche (in base macan form) will always fall short, making the experience in the Honda more pleasant overall, despite the inherent benefits of a Porsche over a Honda…case closed!
Split the difference and get a Mazda. CRV has over twice the cargo space of a Macan and 50% better mpg, plus a 5 year warranty and better resale value, more reliable and affordable to fix and is brand new. Macan is more fun and faster.
Enjoyed the video a bunch! To be fair to both of them, you picked an absolute base Macan which was missing a lot of features, and the CRV was the base model Hybrid so far from fully loaded. The Sport Tourings should be much quieter on the highway, the Sport-L or Touring will have better seats/sound/etc, for really not that much more. The Macan looks super attractive at that price and reasonably fun for a family hauler, but for not that much more you can pick up a Macan S and have an absolute blast. I guess that's the story of all cars, a little more gets you a bunch more, but in both of these cars case I think it rings extra true. This was a super fun video and literally the perfect video for Cars & Bids. Bravo, gentlemen!
This is a great discussion. People should always cross shop older used vs newer. Older luxury vs newer economy. People should consider insurance and repair costs for each. But I bought an older Lexus as my first vehicle and I loved it!
Great video! I just did this buy buying a 04 clk500 with 50k miles. It was the older enthusiast option amount the cars I was looking at. Totally worth it if you appreciate these sort of cars
The concept from the title has the right idea, as I've been posing this question to car fans AND impartial car owners alike, for YEARS. The issue I've come to is if you're literally comparing these to vehicles to one another. The 2 cars here are far too different, creating too many variables to get a reliable result. This type of comparison needs 2 vehicles that came out the same year, otherwise you have a million other factors in favor of the new car, such as full warranty included, modern tech, no previous owner, and zero wear on any of the parts yet, etc. Another change i would make would be that the 2 vehicles be 1 tier apart from each other (brand new top trim CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid AWD vs. brand new base model UX 300h Hybrid AWD) at around the same msrp. Both are hybrids, and both are AWD, and both cost about $40k before options. Now, which would you choose?
Kennnans input for the daily driver is shocking accutare, for an enthusiast. This goes for driving feel and how steering feels. I never expected this. This nerd has my vote
Always go brand new fully loaded economy car. I could have bought a lexus (which still wouldn't have been a bad decision) but ended up going with a full spec mazda 3 gt. Had extra money left over to buy accessories, plan some trips around the world and still had left over cash for the future. Maybe in my mid-40's I'll go for a luxury vehicle. until then save up and explore while you're young. My car brings me little joy (even though it's fun to drive etc). The most fun has come from the trips and memories made with the car.
My wife just went through a similar decision… new CRV vs a 3-year old CPO BMW X3 for a couple of grand less. CVT and engine drone from the CRV, seeing five other gray CRVs within 5 minutes vs more power; a bit more passion (though the X3 really isn’t all that exceptional to drive), overcame a slightly smaller rear seat and the fear of higher future maintenance expenses. There was nothing really wrong with the CRV, but at around $40k it just felt very appliance-like. Hondas hold their values extremely well but the BMw has already taken a large depreciation hit. Another that caught my eye were Alfa Stelvios which have had horrible depreciation making them appear like rare bargains these days. I see nicely equipped low-mileage ones in the low to mid $20’s.unfortunately, the nearest Alfa dealer is 3 hours away and she didn’t want to deal with that.
Depends how long you want to keep them. Most Toyota & Hobda drivers keep their cars 10+ years. If you want a car for 3 years the Maccan still doesn't make sense. Just lease a Demo for dirt cheap under warranty.
PSA: Most 2017+ Macans and Cayennes have Apple CarPlay. I bought a 2017 Cayenne Turbo last year with 38k miles for under 1/2 the sticker and it’s incredible!!! Only bad thing is gas mileage, everything else is a home run. Sport tires in summer, snow tires in winter for Tahoe. ❤ Cayenne
19:57 I personally feel it’s the complete opposite. For some reason, Japanese automakers make their brake pedals feel super spongy. They feel as though you have to press in further to come to a stop of equal distance when compared to say, an American automaker. I’ve owned a Honda, a Toyota, a Chevy (never again), a Mazda, and have rented a Nissan, Kia, Buick, and Lincoln. The Honda, Toyota, and Mazda were all very spongy feeling while the Chevy, Buick, and Lincoln were all extremely touchy. You just had to breathe on the pedals and your body was still flying through the air as your car was at a complete stop 50ft back (I’m exaggerating of course lol). As touchy as the American brands are, I still prefer the feeling of them compared to a Japanese brand because I feel much more secure/confident in braking if the situation calls for it. But to each their own… I guess. lol.
It might be a good idea to compare the cost of ownership for these vehicles. Maintenance, Fuel, Insurance for 5-10 years adds up. Although Porsche sounds fun and exciting, after a few months the honeymoon phase is over. That's why we went with a Toyota :)
I bought a 2019 Audi Q8 fully loaded which retail for around $97,000 and I picked it up for around $43,000. I spent around 4500 on a five-year 150 thousand mile extended warranty bumper-to-bumper and haven’t looked back.
The downside to a 'fancy' car that has depreciated is that it still comes with fancy car service costs. We just did a 30k service on a Macan, it also needed 4 tires, and front and rear brakes....just a little under $7k at an independent Porsche shop. Last years service (oil change and a brake flush) was about $600.
@@slowery43 To be fair, I live in an area with insane high labor rates, but trust me, I wasn't ripped off - the dealer would have been a good 40-50% more (dealer hourly around here is $300-500/hr). I could have bought all the parts myself and did the DIY thing (except the tires) and I might have saved $2k - maybe save another 800-1k if I bought some bargain basement parts. But the timeline didn't work for the DIY option and who buys a Porsche and then buys generic/Chinese made parts for it?
I wanted a new CR-V, love the way this new one looks. Went to a Honda Dealership and all the showroom cars were locked and no sales person wanted to help me. Walked out and went to the Porsche dealership down the street and had multiple sales people ready to help me. Left with a CPO Cayenne...
I don't feel like it is a fair comparison because there is a 15k price difference currently. Yeah the Porsche was 52k but that was 5 almost 6 years ago... For the same 35k you can get a way better equipped macan and then you can make a better comparison
The Macan is for those who what a fun car, drive it for 20k- 30k miles, and then trade it in for a GLB Mercedes. CR-V buyers plan to drive the same car for 100k - 200k miles, and value practicality and reliability over excitement. But a good comparison. Would like to see more.
Three years ago I purchased a Base 2013 Porsche Cayenne with 37,000 mi for $27K. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned including a Toyota 4Runner and a Tundra.
This exact scenario has gone through my mind. For better or worse I chose the older porsche but with diesel. Just picked up an audi to go with it after renting a brand new mazda cx5 while arguably more comfortable on a 12 hr roadtrip than the cayenne.
I just went through the decision of what to get for family car and as an enthusiast I went for the 18 macan S and I don’t regret it it’s fun and special don’t really care for the lost mpgs
I owned a macan GTS for 14 months, sold it and got a Jetta GLI autobahn 6spd and am happier for it. In terms of driving dynamics Macan was a one trick pony- fast, but theres no hiding its weight. Jetta is light on its feet, far more nimble and engaging to drive thanks to the MT. Also i came to realize this size SUV is pretty silly, they are not big enough vs. a car to make much sense. Heavier, more expensive, far worse fuel economy for barely more practicality. I will say if highway cruising was my primary driving, macan hands down.
Macan is basically a rear-biased VW GTI without constant understeer. 19 mpg is really good, last one I had was getting 16-17. Turbo lag is awful, like every EA888 application.
from the title I was thinking this video was going to tell me to buy a base GX instead of the FE LC. instead it reminded me of how cool my old CRV was.
Would love to see a non hybrid new car vs another enthusiast car this is a great topic but... I believe the hybrid component really plays a part lol, exactly double the MPG for the macaan is kinda crazy, and for town driving or grocery runs u can totally get higher.
In the beginning, he said the Macan has a 4-cylinder engine, unlike the earlier ones with a 6-cylinder engine. A standard Macan never came with a 6-cylinder engine. From then on, the base has always been the 4-cycle engine.
so, even the fully loaded one cr-v dont have power tailgate?? wasnt this one actually fully optioned or you cant get it there whatever the price or trim?
You still have to remember at the end of the day. The parts and labor will not depreciate, so while initially buying a used luxury car is a deal. over time it definitely will not
The cost of the Porsche itself may depreciate, but not the cost of parts and labor when things go wrong 😂

@@mihirshah2940 find a CPO one, or bite the bullet and spend ~$3k on an extended bumper to bumper warranty and call it a day… even if you get something with a bulletproof powertrain like a B58 Bmw with zf 8 speed, something else is bound to break. Life’s short, drive something exciting that you love, while you can
Absolutely. I have a macan turbo and a Jaguar F-type R convertible. Love them both
At what cost? At what sacrifice?
Many of us just want a reliable car to get to the much more exciting things we do that aren't governed by speed limits and other limitations and cost a lot less to maintain
@@jake424k sure but you can find something just a little bit exciting that still gives you practicality and reliability. I just got a used Honda Passport, sure I couldve gotten new CRV for the same price, but I loved the 280 hp 3.5 vtec V6, and honda’s iVTM awd - neither of which are offered on the CRV.
Completely true , the accord had the same issue too
But it’s now 2024.

This is a good way for you guys. Less sarcasm and bickering is refreshing.
In other words, less Doug? :|
Perhaps more Doug… on his own? ;)
Wow, normal consumer advice! Good to see!
I feel like most people who watch Doug's videos are middle-class blokes who probably will never buy a used $30k Macan, but it's always nice to know that those cars are achievable. Filippo has always been the King of Economy cars, but bless him so much for him being like 'It's Drives, it's a good car!'
Actually I drive an R8
$30,000 is middle class car money lol. If you can’t afford that, you’re not middle class.
It's a matter of preference, more than a matter of money.
A lot of the enthusiast crowd are people who have very safe and normal cars but want more, but will never buy
Just sold our 2016 Macan S with 80k miles for $22k. That car was absolutely fantastic for the money
So the only midsize SUV or crossover or whatever these cars are called that I find worth buying is an X3
Oh, and I forgot about Q5.
More of these comparisons. It's what the people want!
This is probably the most Filippo video of all time.
Difference in price was already significant :/
Agree. They didn’t even pick the top trim level to compare to the Macan. They should have compared it to the Acura RDX base trim.
CRV has over twice the Cargo space of a Macan and 50% better mpg, plus a 5 year warranty and better resale value..Macan is more fun and faster.
NVH = Noise, Vibration, Harshness. I had to look up the term since it was mentioned a few times in the video.
Oh, thanks for that, i thought i misheard Kennan and thought he said something about "envy rage", as in, would someone driving the Honda feel envy over the Porsche, hah, i was way off then.
I'm going with the Honda. Not only will it last longer, it'll be easier to maintain.
I think it depends on the warranty you could get for a luxury vehicle. That could offset some of the potential expensive maintenance costs

I've thought about this for new cars, Im glad you are covering it even if it is niche
The dad grunts when both of you got out of the car in the last segment made me chuckle. Great video!
I think I'd be disappointed with the entry level premium brands because they'd be missing features that I could have had.
macan hands down! if you enjoy and love driving! MACAN! if you want a pretty reliable suv... then CR-V
Kennan and Emily are starting a family, that's the real reason why he's scoping out the Macan.
Is Emily the one in the right or the left?
Depends on the luxury car but I’ve never gone wrong with an old Lexus. Currently in a 2008 GX with 200,000 miles and it’s great.
this is neat comparison. would've been better against a cx5 which is actually engineered to drive better than the other anonymous crossovers
I like the throttle house style with you two. But adding some zip to the editing would help
The chemistry works very well between these two. I enjoyed this segment and look forward to more. I wish the very best of health and happiness to you all and also to your families!

Cloth seats😂 The Porsche really makes sense all around.
This could be a series

Or about 30%
Ah, yes, the “soup kitchen” special.
Did Kennan say at @9:42 that the Macan is "notoriously reliable" ??!?!?! LOL
That’s why I picked the middle one, BMW X1. It is fantastic
I want the same bmw1
good idea, but what is the point if one is 15k more... they are obviously not going to be compared by a buyer at that price difference
More videos like this! Love Kennan and Filipo together in videos
Interested if the opinion would change if it was really the loaded CR-V with cooled seats, power tailgate, heated steering wheel, and other things that are missing from this trim, as its not fully loaded. Just a thought, great video!
Cooled seats are not available on the US-Spec CR-V. Also, the CVT would be the biggest driving dynamic between two.
This channel is slowly turning into Top Gear!
This is a really great idea for a series!
Have to say the new crv looks very good
Enjoyed the video a bunch! Bravo, gentlemen!
base luxury. I bought a 2024 Cadillac last month…love it more than my 2014 Toyota Highlander.
I was literally thinking of this comparison the other day. Older Base Cayenne vs. New Fully Loaded VW. Thanks for this, I really enjoyed it.
Loaded economy car, the features and extras make a huge difference to daily life
This is a great discussion.
Do you always brag about getting absolutely ripped off?
Tires made of gold?
@@slowery43 To be fair, I live in an area with insane high labor rates, but trust me, I wasn't ripped off - the dealer would have been a good 40-50% more (dealer hourly around here is $300-500/hr). I could have bought all the parts myself and did the DIY thing (except the tires) and I might have saved $2k - maybe save another 800-1k if I bought some bargain basement parts. But the timeline didn't work for the DIY option and who buys a Porsche and then buys generic/Chinese made parts for it?
Bah gawd, that changes the arithmetic entirely
I love this challenge! Great idea
my philosophy on buying a car is, why get a new base model when you can get one a few years old that is fully loaded because of depreciation.
THISSSSSS............... IS THE CONTENT WE WANT!!!!!
I wanted a new CR-V, love the way this new one looks.
Went to a Honda Dealership and all the showroom cars were locked and no sales person wanted to help me.
Walked out and went to the Porsche dealership down the street and had multiple sales people ready to help me.

THIS is a question I continuously ask myself.... Great video.
Would fit 4 in Macan, if put in transversal position.
But its a super interesting video comparison.
I have a macan turbo and I love it
I don't feel like it is a fair comparison because there is a 15k price difference currently. Yeah the Porsche was 52k but that was 5 almost 6 years ago... For the same 35k you can get a way better equipped macan and then you can make a better comparison
Sick backdrop. People just living life on the water I like that
Oh this is really good.. do more of these!! Can’t wait for the day you guys do a cheap car challenge. Awesome trio
The Macan is for those who what a fun car, drive it for 20k- 30k miles, and then trade it in for a GLB Mercedes. CR-V buyers plan to drive the same car for 100k - 200k miles, and value practicality and reliability over excitement. But a good comparison. Would like to see more.
The title of this video is my thought process every time I look at cars to buy online with no intention of buying unless I hit the Lottery 🤣
I went with a 18 navigator (black label) opposed to a new pilot last year. I stand by my choice.

Would love to see a non hybrid new car vs another enthusiast car this is a great topic but...
I believe the hybrid component really plays a part lol, exactly double the MPG for the macaan is kinda crazy, and for town driving or grocery runs u can totally get higher.
Great comparison!
The parts and labor will not depreciate, so while initially buying a used luxury car is a deal. over time it definitely will not
Aight I’ll buy both
