Thanks for this reaction to VoicePlay singing "Grim Grinning Ghosts" both live (after a show when they were on tour) and their produced music video. Earl and Tony were in the group back then.
I think that the reason Layne looks so different while beatboxing is that - after the initial tips Geoff gave him - he is mostly self-taught. There wasn’t as much on RUclips in those early days that he could see, so he did it mostly on his own. (In other words, he didn’t know it was supposed to look funny, so he developed his beatboxing to fit the group’s image)
I’m so glad you got to watch these back to back! One of the rare times we get to see Layne’s beatboxing live and up close, especially cool to see in comparison with the produced version!
So cool you did this double feature! Thank you for all the insights into the beatboxing & the appreciation of Layne. I enjoyed it a lot! Happy Holidays Btw congrats for over 10000 followers, well deserved
yes it was filmed at a slower speed. Earl's whistle at the end is an exhale with the sides of the tongue against the upper teeth and the tip of the tongue just behind the front teeth , then basically exhale an . also the busts are physical cowls they placed their heads in once they were in makeup.
The only thing that I like better in the produced version is Geoff's evil laugh. I love the live version because they use techniques that I've heard folks say they aren't really doing, like the sudden stops. The harmony is obviously near perfection. They don't lose anything even though is all they have is the pitchpipe at the beginning. Of course, in the produced version we see Eli with hair.....
In the actual ride, the busts are statues with faces projected on them. VoicePlay is a great commercial for Disney. Fantastic reaction Klown! Are you having a RUclips stream any time soon? ❤💚
