    I found this description of the lunar moon sighting fascinating....thank u for the patient and clear explanation.
    I find myself now connected to the sighting process as an ibadah....not just a static act that had little meaning for most. In Syaa Allah the sighting of the moon to mark end of Ramadan this year will hv so much more meaning for me.. .and the people that i shared this with....

      @truthseekerultimate8331You make a good point, and people forget that the Prophet gave his ruling at a time when modern scientific calculation technologies had not yet been invented.
      Now that we do have those technologies available to us today, it's absurd to shun them in favor of an unscientific method under the misguided belief that the Prophet wanted us to remain stuck to old obsolete ways because that is somehow the true reflection of true faith.

    MashaAllah finally Dr. Yussef Ismail has clearly explained scientifically and theologically the rationale of moon sighting.
    Thanks and JKkK.for your efforts in presenting the facts.
    The most important problem that the wrong dates cause, is they jeopardize our calculations for laylatul Qadr because not everyone can stay up all 10 nights for ebadah and if we want to chose odd nights to stay up they cause massive discombobulation, and difficulty.
    If naked eye moon sighting is simpler and revives the sunnah then why make things difficult for everyone.
    Thanks for brilliantly explaining.

    Just to point out , the word “hilal” translates to “new crescent” and NOT “new moon”, as you have translated in the hadith at 1:24
    The word hilal refers to the first visible phase of the moon. However “new moon” by definition is invisible.
    The month in this Islamic calendar begins with the new crescent 🌙 (hilal), and it does NOT begin with the new moon 🌑

    Thank you for the excellent presentation. I still have some questions.
    Rabiulawwal means the beginning of spring. How is it so if the Hijri calendar shifts and Rabiulawwal can end up in winter. Did pre-Islamic calendar use 13 months every 4 years? Which calendar did the Prophet saw used since the Hijri calendar was only established during Umar’s reign.
    With moon sighting will Muslims ever achieve global uniformity in its calendar? If not, does that mean Muslims should just stick to Gregorian for official dating and use territorial (should this be city, country, continent or longitude based?) moonsighting for religious purpose.
    Does this also mean that the Hijri calendar does not recognise the International Date Line but instead adopting the variable international Moon Sighting Line?
    Does this mean Muslims should also prioritise the use of the sun & shadows to determine Prayer times and the sun for Qiblah directions?
    I tend to just follow authorities be it calculation or moonsighting as the above questions have been stumbling blocks and unresolved at least for me personally.

    • @dyates12
      @dyates12 2 года назад

      Just go by the majority in your city. Some in mine are going with moonsighting but the majority is going with global calculations. Either way the month is going to be 29 or 30 days.

    • @imadahmed6228
      @imadahmed6228 2 года назад +5

      Great questions
      (1) Yes one major theory is that Arabs used to add a 13th month in pre Islamic times. The Quran banned this. Mentioned in the presentation
      (2) the Numbering of years system starting from Hijri began with Umar RA. Before that the years were named after an incident ie “Year of the Camel”. The Prophet SAW used a lunar visibility calendar in his lifetime, and banned the intercalated 13th month in his lifetime too.
      (3) uniformity in following the sunnah. But no you cannot have a global unfiorm hijri date just like you cannot have a global uniform maghrib time. Each area experiences its sun and moon differently.
      (4) yes Muslims always used multiple calendars eg solar and lunar calendars together. The Gregorian date is more convenient for your meetings for sure. Muslims have always used solar calendars too ie for harvest and crops.
      (5) city/country - this is a discussion and decision for the local community leaders and those learned in the topic. There is no clear definition of local but scholars always took a commonsense approach to their region.
      (6) yes the hijri calendar does not recognise the dateline. The date changes over at maghrib at every location, not at midnight or at a dateline.
      (7) a variable moonline is not needed.
      (8) all muslims should learn about how to use the sun and shadows for prayer times sure - but these are 100% calculable. As Dr Yousseff said in his presentation (a) you cannot 100% predict moon visibility and (b) the month starts by SIGHTING, not the position of the moon in the sky, whereas the prayer times are related to the position of the sun in the sky. If it is cloudy and you can’t make out the shadow - then you don’t cancel Asr. But if it is cloudy and you can’t see the moon, then you don’t start the month [according to the quoted hadith]. Hope that helps!

      @sabaffira 2 года назад

      @@imadahmed6228 Thank you for your answers. I am glad that the Hijri calendar shifts and everyone the world over gets a taste of Ramadan in different seasons. I like to listen to points from both sides and I can appreciate that one side attempts to consolidate the advances in knowledge and science whereas the other is sticking to a beautiful tradition. At one time I was hoping that Muslims would show unity by celebrating their important days on the same dates. This idea is now moot because even if we are all united on practicing moonsighting, we are bound to celebrate on different days.
      I have stopped overthinking and just follow the local mosque/authorities. Just that living with cognitive dissonance is disconcerting.

    Let the scientist decide which area moon is present and start lunar month , method can be changed , like prayers method changes and using wrist watches etc as these are now credible enough to start prayer time

    Asalamualaikum doctor Ismail. This is a wonderful, clear and beautifully presented video with such calmness as well. I remember the days of my childhood when our local masjid elders would climb on top of the masjid to seek the moon which now I understand was in the north and north west part of the southern hemisphere and us children would get very excited to see it too, barely over the trees and houses. It was such a beautiful moment in these old days of simplicity. I now fully agree that sighting is the sunnah to follow. But I have one question I would like to ask, is that based on our Prophet Muhammad PBUH hadith quoted in this video, is it sufficient for one country in the world to sight and confirm sighting, for the whole world to then follow (meaning that the hadith should be understood as universal and for local geo or demographics)?
