The sale and use of drugs, intoxicants, and smoking on-site, especially when it clearly violates workplace policies, has contributed significantly to the erosion of discipline and morale in many organizations. The rules are intended to maintain a safe and productive environment, yet when they are selectively enforced or ignored, it sends a damaging message that there are different standards for different people. This inconsistency not only undermines the integrity of the workplace but also erodes trust among employees who feel they are held to a different, often harsher, standard. The issue becomes even more problematic when leadership turns a blind eye, either because they themselves are part of the problem or because their family members and associates are perpetuating these behaviors. This creates an environment where accountability is nonexistent, and those in power are not only enabling poor behavior but are actively contributing to a culture of dysfunction. In this type of setting, employees are left feeling powerless, demoralized, and disillusioned with the system, which can have far-reaching impacts on productivity, mental health, and overall well-being. It is essential that workplaces become more just, transparent, and democratic. To achieve this, leadership must set a clear example by adhering to the same rules and policies that they enforce upon their staff. Only when everyone is held to the same standard can trust and respect be restored. There needs to be a commitment to genuine accountability, where no individual regardless of their position or family ties can act above the rules. This includes creating and upholding policies that are not only fair but also ensure that leadership is responsive and responsible for maintaining a healthy, respectful, and productive work environment. We must build workplaces that prioritize fairness, inclusivity, and the well-being of all employees. It’s time to dismantle the hierarchies of privilege that allow some to escape the consequences of their actions while others suffer. Only through leadership that truly values justice and equality can we create spaces where all individuals, regardless of their status, are empowered to thrive and contribute to the common good.
I found a wallet in a parking lot once, but I didn't contact the police. To me, the more hands the wallet moves through the more likely it is to get stolen, or money/cards, including police. I guess I don't trust them, they're just people, and some are above the law. I contacted the owner and arranged a pickup.
I thought the same thing about the wallet. Would I have mailed it personally instead? Especially since she mentioned that she didn’t follow up to ensure that the wallet was delivered, appropriately. Then I thought, if the owner of the wallet received a package from a regular ole person, would they suspect foul play? *shrugs*
