The bronzy green Rivendell at 1:15 is the one Blue Lug built for me! I went to pick up a few days after you went and they said you had been. They even showed me the snacks you brought for them haha! I discovered Rivendell and Blue Lug purely on your recommendations and so I want to say thank you. I ride it every day and its an absolute beaut.
Wow - what an excellent tour! Thank you for your work on this one. It was a treat to feel like I was following along and to see Tokyo from a bicycle perspective. Thank you for the documentation and sharing your travelogue. Safe travels!
This was the coziest 48 minutes of my week! I got a new bicycle this week (Marin Four Corners) and I wish I was out riding it but sadly we seem to have entered the stormy autumn season in Iceland, so instead I'm inside imagining I'm riding bikes in Tokyo like you. :)
The contrast in cleanliness between Tokyo and London is remarkable. I was there years ago for a few days and noticed it back then too. Yes, some of it can be chaotic but overall, considering how densley populated it is, it’s insanely clean and tidy. We should take some notes from the Japanese culture 👌🏼
Very cool as always. I was in Japan many years ago in 1988. I was training with Suzuki Motor Corporation. I had an entire month there. Amazing culture and country. I don’t believe it had the bike culture I see here. Very cool!
Just discovered your channel. Love your videos, very zenn to watch. Im a big retro bicycle rider and builder myself, Tokyo is on my bucketlist now 😉. Ride safe.
Beautiful. Hope youre enjoying your travels. Thanks for another amazing video 💚 I enjoy the long format as well as the short format. As long as you are enjoying making the videos and the overall process. That's what's important to me 🫶
Thanks for the tour of Tokyo and of the Blue Lug store. Crazy the amount of stuff the manage to stuff into that place. I have a few bits of theirs on my Sam Hillborne and Surly Disc Trucker. Very enjoyable video.
Thank you. Had to go upright after back surgery years ago and sell the ‘racing’ bikes. Build the black and cream Hillborne back in ‘15 and the Trucker at the beginning of Covid, right before it became impossible to source parts. Both have wheel sets I built during Covid also. Deore XT hubs and Velocity Quill rims with Rene Herse tires.
I’ve not done much cycling in Tokyo unfortunately. I did walk 45 miles in three days though on my most recent trip! Really enjoy your videos as I’ve lived on and off in Seoul since 2010 and also spend all my free time cycling around the city. When I’m away, watching your videos is a good substitute. I’m cycling from Mokpo to Busan in a couple of weeks, can’t wait 😊
Sorry I'm late I was riding my bike! Tokyo looks lovely and the bike shops are amazing . As always I love your video and your perspective on life and our world. 共有していただきありがとうございます。
Another exquisite video, Marcus. Steel bikes and Tokyo from a perspective I've never seen before. I visited Woods Cyclery on your recommendation, but managed to keep my hands in my pockets despite extreme temptation. I'll go back with friends and ride from there next year, no doubt. Thanks again, and stay safe, fella.

I rode a bike around Tokyo this spring and summer. Spring was the best to ride. It's a great experience for me to go around the city by bike. Summer was actually so hot but it was much better than walking around. I think tokyo is a good city which is worth riding a bike.
Oooh wish this video was up before we went to Japan last year!! Your videos are great, from the cuts, editing and commentary. Really enjoy all of them 😊 would be keen to see a video on your camera and audio setup!
Love the movie. What can you tell me about the mesh shirt you were wearing? Looks like a good way to get some shade but beat the heat in hot, humid conditions.
Very well documented! I always wonder about the rules and regulations of different countries when it comes to cycling, its not so obvious as it may seem for a lot of people. Perhaps for another video?
Great video. Your wife is definitely a keeper - putting up with/facilitating with your bike shop visits 😂. Towards the end of the video you said you would stay in that specific neighborhood again (the pretty tree-lined street). What is the name of that neigborhood. I couldn't catch it in the video.
I just came back from a trip to Tokyo about two weeks ago. I made sure to visit a BlueLug bike shop as well (the Yoyogi park one). Sadly I didn't manage to tour the city by bike (mostly because my wife doesn't know how to ride and my kid is still too small to cycle on the street) ... I definitely want to do it at one point in the future though! *edit*: haha, and I also bought some MKS pedals (Gamma in silver. Hope you didn't want to buy the same ones because I got the last ones they had at the time :P)
Really interesting. I'm planning a trip to Japan and was wondering about the best place to rent a nice bike like yours for a week or 2. Any tips on where I could rent one in Tokyo?

The best 48 minutes on RUclips!

There are so many countries that need to learn from Japan about how to treat bicycle users lol
True. They’re still not perfect but better than others.
Not only that. The good manners, respect for eachother and healthy food as well 😊

Lovely trip. I'm surprised you didn't hit any riverside trails. These are so pleasant in Tokyo, and most river embankments have them.

Definitely the best way to get around.
I have a single speed bike, and I really want to try doing a 3x1 setup like this one. I won't know what I'm doing, but I'd like to give it a go.
