your videos are my safe space 🙏
Riding bikes is my safe space.
@@probablyriding Same, besides watching some relaxing bike vids
@@kronoscat6472I’m sorry that you need a safe space. I hope that situation improves for you .
Watching this before bed and then curling up and dozing off with thoughts of chill bike rides in far away lands. Blessed.
That’s sweet. Thank you!
The pacing of your videos are perfect. Very comforting
Glad you think so! Thank you.
Hello, I’m probably rewatching Perfect Days.
Me too
I don't normally comment on videos... but, I thought you might like to know that I was in Kyoto when you posted this video and you inspired me to hire a bike - from the same shop it turns out - and ride around Kyoto and visit some coffee shops. It made my holiday. Thanks for sharing and thanks for the inspiration! Keep doing what you're doing.
I’m so happy to hear that! Thanks for letting me know. I think most vacations are improved with at least one bike ride.
What a fantastic video. Thanks so much! Female occasional rider here (one of your 10%!) and I love seeing your wife riding about too, she always looks so cool and it encourages me to get out :)
She is pretty cool 😎 I’m grateful she rides with me sometimes.
I lived for a year in Japan and the everyday bike rides like this were my favorites. Thank you for the beautiful video that captured that wonderful country so accurately.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Before I was watching ASMR to remove stress. Now I am watching Probably Riding, and then hop on a ride.
Best cycling channel. No marginal gain, just life gain and pure cycling vibes
Great to hear. Enjoy the ride!
I'm a Japanese and a hardcore Komorebi lover, and I'm glad you went there because the "田舎" part of Kyoto is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Japan. Thank you for being on RUclips and sharing your beautiful journey☺
Thank you!
What do you mean by komorebi lover?
15:18 so beautiful 😍
I was just thinking about Perfect Days earlier in the video. And then you mention it later on. Such a perfect film. Absolutely love it. It's a big favourite of ours over on the r/simpleliving subreddit. The simple pleasures and joys in life 💚
This is my favourite time to ride as well, early in the morning with the morning light and crisp air.
And also my favourite type of travel, slow travel with a mix of spontaneity and intentionality.
I hope you and your wife have been having an wonderful time on your travels.
Thanks for another gorgeous video, Marcus-san 💚✌🏼
Thank you so much ☺️
Action precedes thoughts and feelings. That's why you just gotta go, get out, and get moving. Future you will be loving it.
Well said
Bike lover in Kyoto. It truly is the best way to get around the city. There is more dedicated parking than you realize, unlike other cities it’s a little less convenient, but if you know the city you’ll realize a full bike lot is never more than a couple blocks away
Yeah, that’s what I thought. Once you live there, you know all the spots.
You always express all the things I love about riding and bikes and coffee and being in places. This video was beautifully done. I also enjoyed the "road noise" you left in from time to time. Thank you
Thank you very much!
Hey just wanted to say thanks for these videos, they've been a huge comfort to me as I've been stuck at home with a back injury. Looking forward to probably riding again in the future!
Thank you! Hope you get back on the bike soon.
Following my third watch of this beautiful video, I have to thank you. Perfect Days has just knocked Amelie off it’s ling term number 1 spot in my all-time favourite movie list. It had passed me by during a busy spell in life ehere I’ve been a bit out of touch.
Komorebi is my new word of the season.
Keep doing exactly what you do - you maybe don’t know how special it is.
I appreciate you returning to this video. I will certainly return to Perfect Days!
Hello. I'm probably setting aside everything else and prioritizing watching this video above all else.
Enjoy ☺️
Every landscape from Kyoto looks like a movie scene. Hopefully one day I can visit Japan and ride through these gorgeous streets 🙏
Cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹
I hope so too!
Thank you for showing us the side of Kyoto that is unique, quiet, and calming. I will definitely and surely visit Kyoto and use this as a guide for my travel :)
-Your friend from the Philippines!
Thank you 🙏
great way to start my monday morning, thank you!
Good morning!
One of my favorite videos as I love those forest rides in japan. Coupled with you perambulating between coffee and craft stores, lovely. Thanks for taking us along.
Awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful video. Enjoyed the shinrin-yoku with you. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Love these videos so much! I respect your lifestyle and perspective a lot.
Thank you so much!!
I nearly always ride alone. It’s easier to organise for one thing, and I’m happy going my own speed.
Totally agree!
Thank you for another epic video, Marcus, and particularly for the recommendation of "Perfect Days." My Wife and I watched it on my birthday, yesterday. It's exquisite. Stay safe.
Such a great film. Glad you enjoyed it.
What a beautiful ride in the mountains. Inspirational.
I’m getting back on my bike tomorrow after two months off having separated my AC joint in a fall. This video has whet my appetite.
I’ve also just ordered the dvd of Perfect lives.
If it’s half as beautiful to watch as your travelogues I’ll enjoy it greatly.
Thanks Marcus.
Hope you enjoyed the ride!
I’m travelling to Kyoto in a few days and so happy for this video
Have a great time!
I really do appreciate your channel, my friend. The consistently chill vibes, carefully curated content, and smooth delivery are exactly what I need right now. As long as your riding, I'll be watching. Cheers.
Thanks so much!
@@probablyriding maybe one day you could host an event and open it up to the RUclips community if/when the time is right. I'd hop a flight for that.
Those forests! Wandering on a bike around there looks like a dream. I will most definitely be adding to Japan's tourist problem soon....
It’s a lovely place
I grew up in Kyoto, but will be leaving to Canada university soon. As a child I wanted more than anything to leave and travel and explore different parts of the world. As I grew up I began to appreciate just how peaceful and charming Kyoto really is. Its funny how living in a city for so long can make you neglect it.
Great video, I feel like you've managed to capture Kyoto perfectly.
I appreciate parts of home more since I left. Good luck in Canada!
Thanks for bringing us with you, mate! Reminding myself to enjoy the little moments today. Especially on my bike later
Glad to hear it!
Cool to hear that you're building a disc brake bike again; been considering building one as well and this sealed the deal 🤙
Excited to see the new build!
Coming soon!
They just keep getting better. I'm off my bike for a couple of days (sprained ankle),but this video has sharpened my appetite for getting back to riding.
Hope you recover soon!
Thanks! Lovely!
Please do Kobe.
Some friends moved to Kobe.
I’d love to see their city.
Through your lens.
Would like to visit there next time I’m in Japan.
Hey! I love your videos 😻 I'm in Kyoto right now and I'm going to check out Humhumhug tomorrow! Love the bike ride through the mountain. It was so calming to watch ❤
Thank you! It’s a great bike shop with lovely people.
You ride the coolest bikes and are touching on my favorite movie-- what's not to love!
Thank you!
Gorgeous work as always Brother. Thank you for sharing your trip with us. 🤘❤️🤘
My pleasure!!
I found out about Rivendell because of you and just bought a Homer!! Your videos are great!
Awesome! Enjoy the Homer!
Welcome to the fold!
music choice always spot on. another beautiful vid
Thanks!
Lovely video. I have fond memories of Japan. Perfect Days is an amazing movie. It reminded me to try and enjoy the small beautiful moments in life.
Glad you enjoyed it
This, to me at least, is some of your finest work. Thank you so much for bringing us on such a sublime ride.
I preferred it before/without the music though.
Thanks so much. This is my favourite so far. I get mixed feedback for the music, some love it, some don’t.
@@probablyridinglove the song, maybe quieter would be less intrusive. Just trying to be constructive.
The onigiri bike bag amazin! Great content as always, I love bikes & Japan!
Glad you like them!
This material is just so zen and relaxing, thankyou.
Thank you!
@@probablyriding I keep thinking on the comments about being reported for wild riding, is that really a thing there and how would they trace you?
It was just one comment. I found it quite amusing.
I used to have these same green tires way back in the day! So nostalgic
So cool
A very artful video. Kyoto countryside is stunning. Thanks very much for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Watching for a second time this morning with the subtitles on, this is a new video with details I missed the first time I viewed- and I’m a new person.
I think this is why we can ride the same paths again, and enjoy them.
@@rickbartley9255 love it. Thank you!
+1 for the superb 'Perfect Days'. Would highly recommend an Italian based film on Mubi called La Chimera too.
Thanks for the recommendation
The chirping sound is so peaceful, nature's innate music, and goes well with your equally calming and clear-- as much. a British accent can be---narration.
🐦⬛
Another great video. So relaxing to watch. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
those sceneries are delicious!
The best!
10:49 just stunning! Love a ride to the mountain!
Hills are rewarding
Maybe someday I can go bike-packing to cool places like this. Glad I found your channel-more power to you!
I hope you can too.
Perfect Days was such a great film.
So good
i cherish your videos like few others
I cherish all that watch
Omggg, thank you for sharing such a great video! I really love the natural style, and the narration is very soothing to listen to.🌿
A personal question:
I will be traveling to Kyoto for the first time and plan to ride a bicycle. I keep pause the video and checked on Google maps, it seems start at Ginsho-ji? And pass Iwato Ochiba-jinia?
Could you please tell me how long it takes to start and reach the destination, and if this route is suitable for beginners? I would really thankful it if you could share the route points with me, as it would be a great help for my first ride and solo trip 😝☺️☺️!
Glad I didn’t watch this when it came out now watching it the next day and it’s a rainy icky day here so this video is making me happy
Thanks for watching 👀
Superb footage,really enjoyed watching it.
Many thanks!
We are part of the pale white feet club! 😂As always thank you for sharing with us. 🏯
😎
i really enjoyed this, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
OMG....my favourite city in my favourite country i haven't visited yet 🙂
Thanks so much. Pls sir, can we have some more?
Sounds like you need to visit!
@@probablyriding balancing the need for quality sushi v 15hr flight time is tremendously difficult. A japanese gf might tip the balance 🙂
Thanks to you I started to go out and enjoying rides again
That's awesome!
14:46 Amazing
Everything of Japan look Amazing . fantastic
♥ from your neighbor , Korea
감사합니다
Great videos! Your rides are just like mine, maybe minus all the bike shops. 😂 Ride on.
Right on!
Nice I have those same plates from your dinner at the restaurant in the beginning.
That's cool
I did a 7 day hike around the Japanese countryside last year. The Japanese country side is the most peaceful and pleasant place on earth. It was a shock to my system returning to the large chaotic American city I live in.
It’s a wonderful country. Would love to visit the big American countryside too.
@@probablyriding We do have a lot of country side and different environments to ride, but it feels a little more chaotic to me.
This is inspire me. That's my dream to have a long ride with my bike... maybe soon❤️
Go for it!
enjoying your video infinite level. looking forward to new bike with mechanical disc brakes
Coming soon!
You whizzed past me by the river earlier today! Hope you had a good ride 👍🏻
No way! 👋
Another gem!
Thanks!
You know its a good bike shops when you see an organized chaos.
100%
Best thing about BlueLug
Love your videos. They’re a highlight of my week.
One question for you: is there a name for the broad category of bikes we see in your videos? If you were telling a fellow bike person what kind of bikes you’re into, what would you say?
Would love to build something like a Velo Orange Polyvalent or one of the Rivendells one day, but I don’t know what *kind* of bikes they are! It makes it hard to do some research etc!
Cheers!
All road bikes, all terrain bikes, gravel bikes, country bikes, hillibikes, I guess. Rivendell, Velo Orange, Bassi, Crust, Surly, Brother, are the some brands who makes these kinds of bikes.
Intergenerational rides and rides at night are best.
Sure are
welcome to kyoto 😊
Thanks!
Nice vid! Random question but what is the brand of cap that you are wearing? It looks good for cycling.
Thanks! It’s a hat a made in collaboration with Hitch Bicycle Club in Korea. Currently sold out but I’ve put in an order for more.
Seems like you had perfect days in Kyoto.
Sure did.
Regarding the growtac brakes I bought a red pair earlier this year from a shop called Daily Bread cycles in Berlin, Germany. I’m also english but based in Sweden and although I never met them in person they were so personal somehow in their communication that I’ve made it a goal to visit the shop in person. If you fancy branching out and doing european bike checks I would be tempted to start there. The brakes are brilliant. I’ve so far resisted even trying hydraulic brakes, I think mechanical brakes are great. I put them on my Bombtrack Beyond 1 and they are a real step up from the trp spyres that were on the bike before.
Thanks for the recommendation. The brakes are great so far!
Great video. You must have an iron gut mixing all that foodband drink
This video was filmed over a week but yes, I do have a pretty strong stomach, fortunately.
The early bird really does catch the worm. It is true.
It's true.
Just on finding motivation to ride on your own, I find it helps to have an objective like visit this area on bike or see this notable thing. Open ear headphones are also v helpful if you're not in the mood to be alone with your thoughts.
Excellent points. I’m going to give it more though and perhaps make a video about it.
I have the Growtac Equal brakes on two bikes. You'll definitely love 'em. What's that bag on the bullmoose bar? Need to get one of those!
Looking forward to using them. The little triangle bag is the fairweather onigiri bag from Bluelug. On the front is Ron’s Bikes Fanny.
@@probablyriding Love the Onigiri bag. (Oh yeah, Uncle Ron's bags are unmistakable indeed!) Although, it's gonna be hard to find the onigiri in Southern Arizona. But I'll have another use for it. Very cool bag! Thanks for the info!
Are bells considered rude in Japan? What a lovely trip into the mountains!
I try not to use my bell unless I have to.
Hey! I absolutely love your videos, they’re so fun to watch. I have two quick questions for you: Is there any chance I could buy that awesome cap you’re wearing? And also, where did you get that cool bag you’re carrying?”
Unfortunately I sold out of this run of hats but I’m making more. Will post on here when they’re out. Do you mean the bag on the bars? It’s a Ron’s bikes Fabio’s Fanny. Thank you!
Thank you for your response, okay, I'll keep an eye on that. Do you also ship the caps to the Netherlands? Uh no, I mean the shoulder bag you're wearing.
Oh right. It’s from Battenwear. I have run out of caps but I’ve ordered more to be made. Will ship worldwide.
Thank you for the video! Can you share where the matcha and antique stores are that you visit about 30 min into the video?
Search Ippodo tea main store on google maps. That street has some lovely shops too.
Looks like my 15 minute break just turned into a 30 min break.
Send my apologies to your boss.
Love your videos. Are you going to Osaka next?
Edit: You said you were at the end of the video😅 ...I hope you did some riding there too✌
Just to Osaka airport. Next time!
I'm probably watching a Probably Riding video.
💙
Planning a similar trip around Japan with our Bromptons with swytch kit😊 (because we’re old). are those adidas spezial your wearing? They look cool. Nice vibes all around. Big up
Enjoy your trip! Japan is amazing for riding bikes.
Hi Probablyriding! I was looking forward to this edit as I’m heading to Kyoto today and looking to do some riding. Where did you get the route for that big solo ride? Thank you and big fan. Also, I can feel your pain as a football fan living over here; had to miss all the champions league games 😭. Do you stay up for Arsenal games or watch the replays? Thanks!
Thanks! I just looked an google maps for where looked interesting to ride. I stay up for big games especially during the run in but it messes up my sleep routine for the rest of the week. I miss living right by the stadium!
gosh i really just need to get out on my bike. but motivation is low due to road safety concerns honestly. but since i'm also a morning person, i should probably get started like that and have some sort of a regularly/daily routine!
was in japan last year, but never really thought about the cycling scene when travelling. one day i hope to do something like this honestly :)
Morning rides are the best.
Love it! Do you know the name of the Sukiyaki place you liked? 4:22
いづつ屋先斗町店 So good
Would it be possible to see the GPS route for your ride outside the city? Looks amazing and would love to do it next time I visit.
Unfortunately not, sorry!
4:53 the cutest police :)
Not a fan
I really love Kyoto, and was delighted by your morning ride in the countryside. But, with the lovely places you visit, I beg of you: please invest in an Osmo 3 and a shoulder strap clip. This should produce a much clearer, well-stabilized image even in low light.
👍🏻
Such a beautiful video as always Marcus. Reminded me of my travels to Kyoto in 2023. I look forward to visiting there again at the end of this year, and this time, by bike with my lovely japanese girlfriend ;)
Enjoy 🚲 🇯🇵
I’m in Kyoto and would like to go to the first restaurant you went to where you had a curry. Do you have a link for this restaurant please?:)
