Don't forget that a lot of the smaller vans, VW Transporter included, also have alternate guises as MPVs, which are pretty much designed for daily use :)

Food Packs! My son loves them and we all think they are abs fine. Great if you arrive at a site late on, simply heat in a pan of water, so can heat up inside the van without the fear of smelling the van out. We usually use them as a quick hunger fix. Many outlets do a buy one, get a 2nd half price deal. A worthwhile emergency meal, every van should have one!!

As a haulier , I had to smile at the 3 points turn ! Mind you. It was done completely as passing a commercial test. Not on the kerb or pavement It is all possible ! Parking. Just take ones time, have a biscuit ! If not sure about how far back to go Get out and have a look.
    Wish you a Merry Christmas

I daily drive a 1994 1.7 petrol Renault Trafic camper and it works all the time. The only issues are the really large motorhomes imo.
Its only downside is how slow it is compared to modern vehicles.

Great video and explanation but one point I’d like to make and that is as with all diesels especially modern diesels they don’t really like short runs which concerns me especially with the DPF. I feel more comfortable being able to take it for a run down the motorway a few miles to clear all the deposits away.
As for those meals it’s as much about taste, yes some are ok and if you’ve been out walking all day the convenience cannot be beaten. However, supermarkets sell all kinds of food in pouches that are aimed at microwaves but these can also be used as boil in the bag. These alternatives are usually far cheaper too and great to keep in the van as a just in case. Military ration packs are great too but again tend to be expensive.

    • @dubventures
      @dubventures  4 года назад +1

Thank you for your comment! 🙌 We appreciate them! I agree with short journeys that not best for diesel. We prefer cooking real food than pre done ones but we might give them a go! 🙂👍

GREAT COMMON SENSE VID, I USE MY T5 CAMPER ON A DAILY BASIS , MUCH BETTER THAN A CAR. FIND A QUIET SPOT IN A CAR PARK , WHEN YOU COME BACK YOU ARE SURROUNDED, ITS CALLED THE HERD INSTINCT!

I have a T5 camper and use it as a daily driver/dads taxi no issues at all. However as people have commented short school runs and big diesel engines are not a good combo. I use my scooter for commuting full tank T5 circa £110. Full tank scooter 10 pounds lasts a fortnight all good. Ps loved Thor at the end.

RE pre packed foods....Yes, they're really good if you're out hill/fell walking with a small tent and experiencing the outdoors. Saying that, there's nothing stopping you using them in your van as they are usually good quality ....except for the price!

I’ve used those meals. They’re not bad, but some are high in calories. You can pick up better on that well known auction site. Just search for ration packs or mre meals. U.K. and french menus are the best. I use them while in my van or on a bike trip. Ideal if you’re on your own, your mrs probably won’t like them though.

Great video, guys. We have a T6 Kombi which is a work in progress conversion to a camper/ day van (no pop top). The driving position is bang on, and being a van driver at work you get used to driving "on the mirrors". Wouldn't want to go back to driving a car. We love our van life too

Used my T4 as daily driver, LWB Relay too. Agree height barriers can be a pain. Find google maps useful for checking possible Wild Camp location.
Car Parks I either try find a spot out of the way and reverse in or drive in so I can drive out

I drove a 68 plate new vw crafter short wheel base high roof and loved it but like you I always reverse park a van so that especially if a person has a long wheel base van if they reverse park it especially in a car park with grassy areas the metre overhang goes over the grassy area making the actual van shorter in a parking space and or drive straight in to a parking space so that you can reverse straight out without turning the steering wheel etc which makes parking a long wheel base van like a vw crafter or Mercedes sprinter easy for those thinking about getting one and they are as easy and comfy to drive as a car even though they are approx
    6 metres long

Loved the video. We are considering getting a campervan to tow our caravan and use as our second car. This was an invaluable video as it proves to us what we do day to day it would work well. Due to my scout and DofE background I have had every flavour of those meals and they only ones which are palatable are the Vegetable Chilli and the Curry. The puddings are not very nice at all. It just hard cake in a flavoured sauce :( Thanks again for this, very helpful. Cheers Oliver

I didn’t think you would get a van through a drive through eithe😂 some are silly narrow lol

Our campervan is also a daily car plus Lidl every week plus builders van plus tip runs because at the end if the day it's a vw transporter and is only slightly longer than our Passat. Have no problems parking it and you soon get to take note of height restrictions. Our van is 2.2m so slightly higher than standard van but very few problems. Isn't this the reason we get transporters and not motorhomes

great video as always..T5's are about 1.95m high..most height barriers are 2.0m or 2.1m..but you do need to check those roof rails as that can add an extra 50mm..i've got a lwb T5 which is 400mm longer than the swb so it doesn't fit in normal car park spaces..where's Thor ?..doesn't he like shopping ?

    • @dubventures

I also use mine has a daily drive and actually find it easier to park than my wife's 2012 Mini :-). Why is it though there can be loads of parking spaces, you park you van out of the way over the back and when you come out someone parked next to you :-o

Our local tip requires you to have a special permit, it's free for privately owned vans but you do have to book it in 24hrs before you go each and every time which is a pain, I guess each area is different as friends elsewhere in the country just have a special permit to say it's household waste in a private van.
