      Max Velocity saved our lives! The weather channel my Mom watching had gone to bed when the tornados in the northern half of the state tapered off. Because I was watching Max, I knew the Ardmore tornado was headed north, right for us. Called my Mom, and just a few minutes later the siren went off--the tornado was "radar-warned" but they wouldn't issue the warning until it was "spotter-confirmed". Thank God for Max and Ryan!

      Because they weren't paying close enough attention and they don't want to admit it. There's plenty more data they can use besides radar. There should be an investigation, particularly since a youngster lost her life and others were crtically injured. Maybe they misjudged conditions for a tornado, but strong winds? Will this be there response for a derecho... "the national weather station didn't issue a warning". SHAMEFUL!!!

    Im in Bentonville AR that had memorial weekend tornados. sirens went off before storm crossed the oklamoma border into arkansas. I didnt even know rain was coming and heard the sirens as i was closing things up for bed. How ever month ago we had tornado with no sirens and 10 years ago a short ef1 touchdown with no sirens that they then tried covering up and claiming it was just regular wind that blew the house down without moving plastic patio chairs next door.

      @destiny9705 I don't know if they changed it or not, but 1 in rogers by Harbor Freight they were trying say was just wind. Like you can see, this straight narrow line of destroyed houses and businesses in a diagonal path quarter mile long and 2 garbage trucks on its side but the harbor freight building across the street from leveled building untouched. And subway at end of building I used to mow tore apart but rest building okay.

      Those weather professionals should have been paying closer attention, knowing there was unstable air. They have plenty of data at their fingertips: CAPE values, sheer, votility, etc. Simply put, they were sleeping on the job and making excuses "The national weather service didn't issue a warning." PUH-LEASE!!! There was nothing stopping the local weather station from issuing a storm watch and going outside to actually look at the skies or hop in the car to get a better view.

  • @robjohnson1138
    @robjohnson1138 3 месяца назад +12

    A tornado has to START before it can be detected and a warning issue. But as soon as it starts, it is dangerous. There will always be some small amount of time between the beginning of a tornado, and the warning happening. People can, unfortunately, be hurt and killed in that time. Ms. Anderson from NWS was saying they were receiving radar updates every 4-5 minutes, and the tornado was on the ground for approx 9 min. Plus it was an EF1 - these are definitely dangerous (like all tornados), but not huge. Based on time-on-the-ground and radar update times, it's possible they could have gotten only ONE radar update indicating the tornado during the entire time it was in existence. And the maximum would have been 2 radar updates. Tornado warnings are not automatic. Humans have to see and evaluate the data.
    This was a tragedy. But absent any other information, it was just an act of nature that just might not have been warn-able considering our current weather forecasting tech.

    • @caseyb1346
      @caseyb1346 3 месяца назад

      apparently the storm was strong enough to produce straight line winds capable of taking down trees. That would have been on Radar for longer then 10 minutes. Most cities sound their sirens for dangerous winds also, not just Tornados. Dallas used its sirens for a Derecho that blew through couple weeks ago. Saved some lives for sure.

    • @martimasters7704
      @martimasters7704 2 месяца назад

      Nope. When the conditions are right, particularly if there are high winds associated with the gust front of a storm, a storm watch can be issued. When the storm becomes visible, they know the windspeed. High winds are enough to trigger a storm warning and activate the sirens. You don't need an actual tornado touching down to save lives by getting people indoors.

    • @Siren1000T1
      @Siren1000T1 6 дней назад

      Our sirens in Livonia test EVERY first Saturday of the month at 1PM. It may seem like it's not often but due to us not being that much of a prime target area for tornadoes to occur often, most places around us feel that testing only monthly instead of weekly is enough. A place like Lenawee County, Michigan for example only tests their sirens once a year (IF they ever do) and they are more likely to get tornado outbreaks than us residents of Livonia. Ironically, most of the time when our sirens actually DO sound off for a real emergency, the outcome usually turns out to be less severe than what we think could've happened.

  • @section8usmc53
    @section8usmc53 3 месяца назад +8

    Sirens are only meant for people outside and should never be your primary source for warnings. We are all responsible for our own individual safety. Most of these storms have many hours and even days of advanced warning. Everyone should have a few ways of getting warnings, including a NOAA weather radio.
    Weather related incidents cause a huge number of injuries and deaths every year, and people still continue to ignore the weather, have a "can't happen here" attitude, and mock meteorologists because they understand little to nothing about the weather. If you don't bother to check the weather for 30 seconds a few times per day, then you aren't taking your own safety and that of your family, seriously.

    People have become so use to being warned ,that they have been dumb down . Think about it.
    Your car tells you when you're running low on oil , your tires are low , beeps when something is behind you , etc
    Siren warnings are very important , but so is just observing for yourself.
    As Bob Dylan once sung , " you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows " .
    People have got to become more self sufficient and aware.
    When the power grid goes out for good , you're going to need to know how to get by without electricity. Prayers to all those hurt by yesterday's tornado. Just be careful out there , don't wait for anyone else , do what you feel you need to do.

    They didn't care because of the area the area is a lower middle class area for a rich area funny how I guarantee you they would have sound the alarms right when the major severe thunderstorm weather hit. However as a citizen of Livonia I can say firsthand they don't care about the lower middle class series of the city so if that tornado is coming down there and if we're having bad thunderstorms and whatever they're reluctant to siren anything know they will wait till it hits the upper class the areas and then they hid out of siren outside of that unless the thunderstorms are going to be severe in the upper class rich areas the sirens have not gone off before and this is another incident where their prioritizing when they want to send out that siren if you look at Hawaii they're literally intentionally picking when they're going to put the siren on it shouldn't matter what the weather forecaster said because we all saw and we all stood there and ran and took cover in our houses in Livonia off of 7 Mile and Middlebelt I can tell you right off the back cuz that's where I live and we all ran in our houses and took cover because we knew something wasn't right and even up to that when we saw what's going on with the sky did we hear a siren no because well that I said a lower class in lower middle class neighborhood areas so for them it was in a big deal wasn't worth their time and energy to send out a siren because well unless the forecast weather service issues the thing for the tornado we're going to put a siren out there because this is the lower middle class everyone for themselves they would rather have it destroy our neighborhood so that they can put expensive housing there that's unaffordable living but if it were happening in the Richer areas first and foremost we all know for a fact they would do something about it and this is why many Livonia in the lower middle class and lower class areas of 7 Mile Middlebelt area are sick and tired of our city wasting your tax dollars on unnecessary stuff and not sounding the alarm when there's going to be severe weather because of the certain area that it's going over so if it's the wealthy areas I guarantee if someone's going to go off if it's not and it's just a lower class. They're not going to sound the alarm why because we're not worth anything to our city of Livonia and it's very evident by again what has happened this time around
