pretty cool to see how the other's chose to process it... looking at my edit with fresh eyes, I wish I would have dialed back the saturation of the blue channel.. with all that contrast it really got a little out of hand

Thank you so much for this hugely interesting video and for managing to bring together some of my favourite landscape photographers. It was so interesting to see what they all made of your original great RAW image. I liked all the results in different ways and so interesting to observe the differences, plus I picked up a few useful tips such as Adam's creating a very flat oval selection at the horizon which made a big difference after he had applied the graduated filter to the sky. Plus so interesting to see how the photographers dealt with the dark rocks in the foreground, brought out detail in the waves or applied colour gradings to parts of the image (not only the sky) to create their own individual mood. What a brilliant job to host and present this. Nice work indeed!

Great to have met you and had a chinwag on Clubhouse. Enjoyed this video. Last night I couldn’t decide by looking on Insta at the edits which one I preferred. Now having watched the video. There are elements of all of them which stand out but overall I like yours. I think as you were there you always intended to lift the shadows in the foreground when you took the Image. And I think this is what gave all of the others some problems. Many of them have tried to resolve what to do with the dark foreground, but none of them gave it the life and texture that your edit does. I think that’s what come from being there engaging with the landscape and then transforming and exaggerating the elements you connected with when you took the image. I’ve subscribed so I’ll check out a few more of you videos soon.

Thanks for this. As someone who is struggling to learn the art of photography and post processing this video confirms that there are infinite ways to “skin the cat”. This is part of what makes learning post processing so challenging. I find it helpful to know that even some of the most gifted, i.e. Nick Page, reflect and reconsider their own processing choices. How does one ever know if they are done post processing an image?

Real interesting idea and well done all those that took the time to process your raw and to those that also video edited their process. Very differeing styles for sure and all have their merits. I see below Nick has picked up on his blue heavy edit... whilst it stands alone as a great edit when put side by sde with the others it does look a little overdone. A few years ago I watched Joe Cornish at The Photography Show give a talk where he went out with a crew and shot a scene, processed it on site (in a van set up for the occasion) and then printed at the same time. Interestingly he then put the imagfe away and abouyt 6 weeks later took the raw and processed it as he "recalled" the scene he had shot. In the talk he produced both edits & there was a stark contrast to the way the 1st image looked to the 2nd one. It would be interesting to see Darren you revisit the raw again in a future time without looking at your original edit to see if memory recall would give you a similar result? Enjoyable watch btw. Great idea and very interesting seeing the various versions and how some of them work. Loved Nick’s the most but I do like dark and moody. Wondered if anyone considered a B&W conversion. There was a shot in Adam’s sequence tightly cropped with the central wave dominating and the island’s silhouetted against the moody sky that made me think a B&W crop with Nick’s mood would have been interesting. Thanks hope you do more as now following and will certainly check out the work of the others that I don’t follow.

I like how Adam, Mads and Nick all had the same issues with the photo but chose to deal with it in different ways. Like the bright rock in the corner Adam and Nick cropped the image to get rid of it. The main issue I have with Adams is it feels a little unbalanced and Nicks is a little too blue but by far the most dramatic. I like how Mark brings out those colours for sure. I think I like Mads edit the most but they’re all great in their own way. Lovely image and interesting video!

Really interesting comparison video! You're composition is superb. Adam's very subtle editing is pretty typical of him, as is Nick's dramatic and moody take. I guess I like Nick's and Mads' versions the best. Yours is good but I think you cropped too much of those beautiful clouds. Would you consider letting your subscribers have a go? Asking for a friend. 😉😆

Thank you very much Buddy ! I could see each persons style coming thru on the edits for sure ! I feel honored for them to edit my humble shot !! Funny you ask for a friend , I was thinking of doing something similar to a wider audience for sure !! Shoot me a mail and I can send you the file in the meantime if you like :-)

I guess that there are no more natural shots anymore. Kinda sad, nature has to be edited. I just don't like how many changes can be made to destroy what nature is. Makes me think about shots I like anymore.

Interesting view .. there never has been a “natural “ shot as you call it ! Every photo ever has been edited

What is nature like? The human eye will see the world differently to a bird or insect but we can only use our own faculties as a point of reference. As we scan a scene our eyes automatically change focus and adjust for light levels but a camera sensor cannot do that, so we have to compensate with adjustments afterwards to more closely match how we see it. Then there is the question as to whether we wish to just record a scene documentary style or emphasise our emotional response to it as a painter would.
