This Turkey travel vlog we are asking the question, is turkey safe? Many people ask us if Turkey is a safe country and although we have never had an issue here Alex's parents did have a bad experience last time they came. We wanted to change their perception and show that Turkey is a safe country to travel and that it was just an isolated incident 32 years ago. This vlog in Istanbul we took the local ferry from the Asian side to the European side. We visited the basilica cistern under the Hagia Sophia before going to the Grand Bazaar. After we went for a delicious turkish street food the fish sandwich (balik ekmek) from Emin Usta before going to Galata, a hip area with the iconic Galata Tower. Finally, we went for a few drinks on top of a rooftop bar massive mixed kebab from Dürümzade.

In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

The Armenian Genocide[a], also known as the Armenian Holocaust,[10] was the Ottoman government's systematic extermination of 1.5 million Armenians,[note 2] mostly citizens of the Ottoman Empire.[11][12] The starting date is conventionally held to be 24 April 1915, the day that Ottoman authorities rounded up, arrested, and deported from Constantinople (now Istanbul) to the region of Angora (Ankara), 235 to 270 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders, the majority of whom were eventually murdered.
The genocide was carried out during and after World War I and implemented in two phases-the wholesale killing of the able-bodied male population through massacre and subjection of army conscripts to forced labour, followed by the deportation of women, children, the elderly, and the infirm on death marches leading to the Syrian Desert. Driven forward by military escorts, the deportees were deprived of food and water and subjected to periodic robbery, rape, and massacre.[13] Most Armenian diaspora communities around the world came into being as a direct result of the genocide.[14]
Other ethnic groups were similarly targeted for extermination in the Assyrian genocide and the Greek genocide, and their treatment is considered by some historians to be part of the same genocidal policy.[1][2]
Raphael Lemkin was moved specifically by the annihilation of the Armenians to define systematic and premeditated exterminations within legal parameters and to coin the word genocide in 1943.[15] The Armenian Genocide is acknowledged to have been one of the first modern genocides,[16][17][18] because scholars point to the organized manner in which the killings were carried out. It is the second-most-studied case of genocide after the Holocaust.[19]
Turkey denies that the word genocide is an accurate term for these crimes, but in recent years has been faced with increasing calls to recognize them as such.[20] As of 2019, governments and parliaments of 31 countries, including Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Russia, as well as 49 of the 50 states of the United States,[note 4] have recognized the events as a genocide.[21]

It doesnt mean Turkey is extremely safe especially for the tourlsts but my point is that these kind of things happen everywhere so why you never see any video asks If London is Safe?

@@oznuraygen7254 Hırsızlık konusunda hemfikiriz ama kadına şiddet konusunda biz hala gerideyiz. Güney amerika da mesela insanları öldürüp sonra parasını çalıyorlar, istemekle uğraşmıyor bile adam zahmete girmiyor. Çoğu zaten uyuşturucu kullanıyor. Bana soruyorlar sizin ülkenizde yok mu bunlar diye. ilginçtir bizim ülkemizde de bu tür ölümcül suçlar işleniyor fakat bizdeki davalar hep kadın erkek ilişkileri, namus meselesi, gurur meselesi, siyasi görüş farklılıklarından vs oluyor. In general, to have a great experience in Turkey, avoid Taxi’s, try to avoid crowded public transportation, or non famous restaurants, use Uber or their local app Bitaksi or rent a small diesel car; visit known restaurants to have better experience; avoid tourists traps in Takseem and similar area’s; in fact; the far away you are from these area’s you will probably get better experience. AirBnB wasn’t so great there due to uncertainty and random cancellations from owners.

I think that it depends where you are in the city and at what time, like all cities in the world... Everybody has a personal experience and opinion. I can just confirm that actually those last years it is different because of the Syrian people. Istanbul is an amazing and beautiful city i love my country each time i go but now i think that we have so much to do concerning security questions. Regards

About 20 years ago I was in Istanbul on my second visit there. I was with my son, daughter-in-law, and a couple of grandchildren. My son was taking the kids to the restroom while my daughter-in-law and I waited. My daughter-in-law had lived in Turkey some years before and speaks fluent Turkish. A local man walked up to me and said something. Of course, I didn't understand a word. She started laughing wildly. I said, "What did he say?" When she could stop laughing, she said, "He just offered you 100 camels for me"! The guy left when she said something to him. One of my favorite traveling occurrences! I was only slightly concerned about safety there in the first few minutes of my first trip. It was late at night in a scary looking place to park.

Good Lord, Istanbul looks more safe than Needles and $hit San Francisco these days. Situational awareness, self defense skills, travel in a small group, and a good attitude is usually all that is needed anywhere you go. Remember, "safe" isn't living and so many people hurt themselves or die even in their own home.

I live in Australia now, but as a child I lived in Turkey. As kids we would play games in the street until 2am, only giving up when our parents literally pulled us back home. Here in Australia, kids playing in the street = impossible. Everytime I go back to Turkey, I walk in the middle of the night wherever I want to go. I feel unsafe to do that in Australia. I'd say Turkey is much much MUCH safer than any European/English speaking country I have visited so far.

I live in istanbul and everywhere I have been was safer? I don't know what exactly is your criteria of being safe but it isn't safe. I had a foreign friend moved here last year and she got harrassed and she told me she was never comfortable, eventually she went back to her country. if you're a tourist people will mug you off. taxi drivers wouldn't take me to taxi at night because I'm a local and they can't overprice, instead they wait for tourists. I had one foreign friend visited 2 years ago, he got punched in the face on the street (he provoked too but obviously he wasn't expecting that agressive response). another friend visited last year, had been beaten by some people on the street one night and forced to take out all his cash from atm to give them. just because it doesn't happen to you (you or other tourists) during the few days you were here doesn't mean it is safe. why is everybody lying? maybe if you are in crowd and only go to fancy areas yeah you will reduce the chances of having a bad experience but don't fool people to think it's a very safe country. besides istanbul is not entire turkey.
also turkish people please don't waste your time to answer this, I will be not reading it. thanks.

Great video! Some lovely shots in there and a lesson is cool from the Has Beans. They need their own channel, you should give them all of your sponsor money to get started. Not too sure about the "womb" description but could have been worse could the been the conception!!! Also liked the Cistern and the old bizarre. The roof top bar was a great find. Perhaps you should do a video about safety for travellers.

Announcement: If you think you have a problem in Turkey, just ask someone to call the police. The police will be more on your side than the locals, because they will know who can do what, and guess what you feel. And around touristic areas like Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosk, police in civillian clothes is just next to you. There are more police officers than tourists in those places. And your mother's case; if she had gone to the police at the time, that shop would have been closed and that SOB would have been beaten down for hours.
