Your awesome lady. This is my favorite episode of them all. Your an excellent host for all of us who wish we could be out there free to live. A life is so short. Be well and safe in all your travels. And thank you.
Catherine... If you ever see this. This is another of my five favorite videos of yours. I don't know how you you did it. I was a puss. With my fear of heights I couldn't. I tried, but no. When you get to the spot where you have to hold onto the chain. I turned around and started back down. So thank you for this video. The view from up there was incredible. Have fun always babe. Love you. 💕 Randy. 🎼👍
One of the most AMAZING And INSPIRING adventure videos I have every seen. Fall color show- feats of bravery. Nice that you added the story of the group of women supporting their friend.
Cat you sure have crazy things going on. But be careful and please pray. A person like me I couldn't do it. Scares me just watching you and Dan. Good luck.
Amazing! It made me dizzy and weak-kneed when you were making the climb with all those people on the trail. I’m surprised there have only been 7 tragic deaths. The ‘gold’ rock was stunning. What a spectacular video!
I am very grateful that you were able to make the trip safely other than a little bumps and bruises those are awesome shots thank you for taking the time to do these things to share your love have a blessed day
This is an amazing video of a hike. I could relate to how scared yet brave she was. All of her videos are great because they are also entertaining. Love watching them- inspired
Excellent video Catherine. Love to watch your adventures and appreciate that you are 'real' and not pretentious! Angel's landing view looks like the closest thing to heaven on earth.
Haha! "Sorry mom. I know this is going to make you nervous." My mom was SO worried I was going to fall. I was a little, too. Not gonna lie! I'm SO scared of heights. I feel good saying that I did it. And have the video to prove it! (For when I'm old and my grandkids don't believe me! haha)
Great show today folks. Thanks, I really enjoyed it. I'm 65 and can no longer go on adventures like that. My body has arthritis. I used to backpack and go mountain climbing. Then I started day hiking, but those hikes keep getting shorter and further apart. Now my eyes are seeing through the lenses of people like you. Thanks again. Take care. Vaughn
Hey Catherine....just came across your site....you are very good!!!Angels Landing is not for us...I am not good with heights as I get older...kuddos to your partner!!! Very interesting....Looking forward to viewing your other work...We were there a couple of years ago and only hiked the Narrows....lots of fun...Anyway....keep up the good work......Hank and Pam
Thank you Dan for your support! It means a lot. I really enjoy making these videos. I look forward to working on them and thinking about what I can do next creatively.
AL was one of the best hikes I ever have done and it is great to see your vid of it. THXS, Stumbled onto this while doing research for a Sierra Nev. trip soon. Great shots straight down..love it.
Thank you so much for this Catherine What an experience.. Glad you are OK. I'm what you call an avid walker.. Woods, Beaches and trails in any weather in my never ending search for peace and quiet.. Thank you..
Your videos are just getting better and better. This video brought back so many memories I was motivated to look at some old pictures of a three day backpacking trip to Zion in late May 1994. Day one started on the Lower Kolob Plateau and took the Potato Hollow Trail to a camp site on the edge of the West Rim. On day two I dropped down into Zion Canyon, up to Angels Landing, down to the river and then back up to my campsite on the West Rim. Then on day three hiked back to the car. Three things I really remember about that trip: (1) near the end of the first day I was at an over look into one of the canyons and there was no wind and not a sound and I thought this is the quietest place I've ever been; (2) climbing up to Angels Landing I saw young kids (7-9) running up the sketchy parts of the trail and thinking their parents must be idiots; and (3) on the final day I felt a slight pain on the top of my ears, so I touched the top of both ears and had blood on my fingers - forgot to put sunscreen on the top of my ears and only wearing a ball cap. Thank you for the wonderful video and bringing back a few memories.
Thank you so much Bryan! Wow! I'd love to backpack through there. I'm really not one who likes to do the popular/crowded hikes and trails, but I did want to do Angel's Landing. I envy the time you get in the backcountry. Sounds like you have a wonderful catalogue of memories from many amazing trips. I'm glad I get to see some of them here on RUclips.
I am absolutely amazed. I am crying! Beautiful. I did a search in your channel of "fear" and found this video. I have a trauma background and want to know what it takes to get rid of fear. I want to know how a person "thinks" through fear and accomplishes these hikes. TY!
Angel’s Landing was captured magnificently! Kudos for testing your fear of heights, that takes a lot of mental & intestinal fortitude. The only way I’ll ever experience the views from Angel’s Landing is from vids like this. Never been afraid of flying but exposure like that scares the bejesus out of me. Thanks for sharing your experience & the gorgeous scenery.
Thank you Catherine for this video. The scenery was great and beautiful. I’ve been to Zion a few times and hiked it. But not quite as far as you went. I know unwound have never made it. I’m older now than I was and I still don’t I’ll make it up there. Thank you for doing a great video.
First vid I’ve watched from before you went FT. Isn’t Zion amazing?!!! Looks like you had great weather. We did the narrows too but not Angel’s Landing. Good for you! Quite an accomplishment! One of my favorite shots was that brief moment of the RED Leaves against the BLUE sky, but all of the leaves turning were just gorgeous.
oh!!!!......Zion is number one on my bucket list!!!!!!.......you are so lucky!.......beautiful video as always!.......great stuff.....I think i would like to go in the winter when it is less crowded!....what a majestic place!
You must go Mike!! Funny thing is...it was less crowded on this trip! haha I cannot even imagine what summer is like. I know it can take a good hour or more to even get on a shuttle which you are required to take to certain areas of the park. We stepped right on. I'm sure if you get into the back country, you can escape the crowds. Thank you on the video! :)
I hiked Angels Landing in August last year. The heat was brutal. 100+ degrees. At least 2/3 of those who start don't make it. The key is to hike your own hike to the top. Take your time. It took me about 2hrs to reach the top. and about 20mins to come down. The switch backs going up are just leg killers. The worst part of the chains is passing people. As most were selfish and wouldn't let go of the chain so that you could get by. So I often had to let go and stand off to the side, literally on the edge while they passed.
What an incredible video. You have nerves of steel on the Angel's landing hike. Beautiful tree colors. And then the narrows the next day! You have the strength of one if those mountain goats. You looked wonderful in your water pants! All of this adventure was wonderful. I missed it in March but November looks like a perfect time also!
John, good to hear from you. This fall for sure for me. Cooler temps and fall colors. Still planning trip to whitney and Monmouth lakes hopefully this fall.
Thanks so much Ruth!! We can be inspiration for one another! :) It is such a gorgeous place and I think I got it at the exact right time for the fall color.
Wow just breathtaking !! Amazing video, I have never seen parts of this beautiful world that we live in !! The state of Michigan is all I really seen . Really appreciate you sharing ! God bless stay safe
Fantastic place to explore. I was there about 4 years ago in early October. I didn't attempt Angles Landing. A little old for that but lots of other enjoyable shorter hikes. Certainty want to go back. Nice filming btw.
Thanks for the great video. At my age and poor health,I would never make the steep climb so I enjoyed walking with you from my office desk. Great photography as always
Great job on your video and hike! I was out there in August and got to hike the narrows which was awesome but you got me totally stoaked on the Angels landing hike! It looks super sketchy, but totally rewarding at the top. I’m heading out this coming year to spend a week out there and really get after all the amazing hikes this beautiful park has to offer. Keep up the great work thanks for sharing!
The name Dan Merkel caught my attention . Surf trips to Jalama and the Ranch in the early 70’s. You guys did a great job filming this vast playground that is Zion . Sinewava at canyons end is one of my magic places in the beautiful west. Top notch content!
Great video Cat. You definitely featured some of the best Zion has to offer. Brings back great memories of the trip i made there last fall. Zion is definitely a hikers dream. I look forward to going back next year.
Zion is beautiful. I passed on Angels Landing due to my fear of heights. The Narrows is a nice hike, I did it late June when water levels were lower. Love your videos, great photography!
Hi Catherine! I really enjoyed watching video of your trip to Zion National Park. I was surprised that you had only been there 1 time and it brought back great memories of my hiking trips at Zion. My son Alex and myself have been there 3 times and we did Angels Landing and the Narrows each time we went to Zion, however we didn't do the chains and instead stopped at Scouts Landing. There is another section of Zion called Kolob Canyon and it's much quieter and so beautiful. Really looking forward to your next hiking trip.
Thank you. I’ve been back a couple of times since this trip. Here is a backpacking trip I did in the Kolob area: ruclips.net/video/STcRJgSt5VM/видео.html
It’s always awesome to see a place you’ve visited through someone else’s eyes. Looks like you had a lot less crowds. Thanks for sharing this. Makes me want to go back
I’d recommend it in winter. Went this past January in the evening. There may have been 30 people in total, made the whole experience soo much better. A bit of ice, but it never felt sketchy. Plus you really need to hike the narrows in the winter during the ice falls. It’s undoubtedly dangerous, but seeing it feet away is impressive. You’ll hear a loud crack.....nothing.....then it sounds like a bomb going off when the ice hits rock.
This was easily one of your best vids so far. Absolutely beautiful and I loved the adventure/overcoming fear. I can relate. I'm in Utah, and I've never been to Zion's, believe it or not. You've got me thinking about heading down there! Thank you for another amazing adventure, Catherine.
Thank you so much Steve! You have got to go! I was truly amazed at how beautiful a place it was. It blew away my expectations. There's a special energy there. I'm looking forward to exploring more of your beautiful state!
Can’t wait to do this! I’m on the 3 year plan to retirement. This gives me time to get this fifty something year old butt in shape to do the things I want in life. thanks Catherine! Keep doing what makes you happy! Most important thing in life!
Great fall colors, great views and another great video. Sometimes the climb to the top is hard but the view is worth it. Thank you so much for sharing. 😃
The fall colors were incredible!!! That was a bonus for sure. The view from the top was well worth it and also conquering my fear of heights made it that much more sweet. Thank you so much.
What a stunning place….congratulations on Angel’s Landing and conquering your fear. I passed (chickened out) on it as soon as the chains appeared. Your photography is wonderful.
Beautiful job with the video - I've done all 3 hikes you did, years ago, and your videos captured it all so beautifully, and took me back in time when I could do these hikes. I can still do the Narrows, as I did it a couple of years ago, but Angels Landing is now beyond my capabilities, but the memories last a lifetime, and it's fun to relive them through your wonderful video footage -thanks for the memories!
Oh.My.Gosh!! Stunning pics of the whole area ... the fall colors are amazimg!! And your shots from Angel's Landing DEFINITELY show how treacherous it can be. I've had 4 personal friends do that hike, but their pics did not do it justice. Props to both of you!! I'm gonna start referring to you as the "Iron Lady" of RUclips hiking videos ... true nerves of steel!!! 😎😎🖒🖒 These last national park videos have been wonderful. But I also love the ones when you pack in. Looking forward to your next "experience"!!
I absolutely just flat out loved this.....loved all parts of it from the narrow trails and chains at the top to wading thru the water at the bottom....bottom part is something I have done while fishing way off the beaten track...walked thru several areas like that to get to the good fishing.....but I cannot find any words to adequately describe the beauty of this area....seems like something that should just be taken in with your eyes and felt with your being....If this area was a golf resort I can hear my friends now saying " damn that course was brutal" lol.
hahaha...it was pretty brutal. I'm glad that we went in the Fall and got to see all that beautiful color. Also, even though there were a lot of people there, I hear that's nothing compared to summer. I think Angel's Landing is something I only need to do once. I prefer to hike less crowded areas, but I'm happy to say "I did it!". Thank you.
🙏 for sharing I am heading there August 2 to the 5 your video was amazing shots my knees are shaking already in excitement and in fear can’t wait from Canada
O. M. G.....I am so glad you two hiked Angel's Landing because after seeing your footage I know I could never do it. I was getting vertigo from just watching the footage! And Merk was carrying a tripod! My hat's off to both of you. Beautiful area, but I think I would stay off the chain section. No can do! Now I will watch the rest of the video. :-)
Thank you so much Karen. I almost quit when I saw how much further we had to go. I'm really glad I didn't. I definitely conquered a big fear of heights that day.
Such a beautiful country. Watching all 3 vids then remembering the q+a where you said you were a hat person... must have had your own hat suitcase! Thank you and Merk for sharing your awesome scary adventure.
hahaa...Thanks Craig. I actually only brought one hat on this trip. The one I'm wearing in this video. Backpacking...I usually bring 2...the hat I wear hiking and a beanie for camp. If I'm on a road trip...all bets are off and I can have 3-4 lol. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Well done 👍👍 girl!!! Zion is awesome... Angel is so cool.. took me and my sister longer than we thought but so worth it 😀😀. The narrows are a charm of it's own ...
In august last year the Narrows water was DEEP. It was over my head (im 6ft tall) in places and I had to hold my camera gear up out of the water and swim! I hiked up about 2 miles and it was still packed with people. To all who read this an want to go. Make sure you don't go in august (crowds and angry tourists with kids) Also make sure you wear clothes that will dry quickly, shoes included. No denim or boots. And bring a trekking pole for stability. The bottom of the narrows is all rocks and most of them are very slippery. I didn't have a trekking pole and kept wishing I did.
I am just like you I love hiking but I am still working but when I retire which will be soon I will be hitting the trails. Thanks a million for the posts.
Just found your Zion hiking video, I just did this trip at the first of July. Angels landing is the real deal. Now that I have done it I see no reason to do it again 🤗 the Narrows was also amazing. Great video and pictures
Welcome to Utah... I need to re watch your video and count how many time you said OMG...:-) The Pine Rock Arched Bridge on the highway my Great Grandpa and his construction company built it in 1930 as you start into the switch backs you cross it...
This is my backyard Catherine and the Main reason I moved next to it from Michigan a while ago.. I live across the highway from Snow Canyon.. only a few miles from St George, Utah.. it's another Incredible place here in SW Utah
Thanks for your awesome video. I will be hiking Angels Landing next week and I am SO nervous. Watching you doing it is giving me that push to go for it. I figured if i take my time and just be extra careful i should be okay. I am also doing The Narrow, can't wait for that hike it looks beautiful... 💙
Hello Catherine, you never cease to amaze dear. This was an awesome adventure. Thanks for sharing. I believe that 'brutal' was a good choose of words for this hike. You, please, continue to be safe out there.🤗
Amazing place! Could tell you weren't comfortable in the fast water in the Narrows, but to your credit you toughed it out anyway and we were all rewarded by beautiful views of remote places!
Thank you Diane. That water had a bit of force even though it was shallow for the most part. After falling, I was nervous it could happen again. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you!
Beautiful canyons! Great videos. In the future, please have less people talking to the camera. We watch these to see the scenery. Ready to head there now!
Good on you Catherine for looking scary in the face. Mind you scary showed you a beautiful and awesome vision of the planet. Did you know that it is scientifically proven that awe is good for you? It is - plenty of awe here. You must have come out of this one feeling wonderful, ascended and up for anything. Great hike and video. The Narrows? Wow! All the best. Mark
Conquering fears! It's amazing what it does for our confidence. Knowing the reward I'd get at the top was a motivating factor. Thanks so much for the kind words.
I agree Catherine. What did Eleanor Roosevelt say, "Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You." You certainly did that here and as you say the reward was fabulous. Have a good weekend.
Welcome to Zion, my “back yard.” I live in Salt Lake City and spend a week or so in Zion every year. Very lovely footage and photos. Love how well you showcase the Red rocks and the blue light. I enjoyed seeing Walter’ s Wiggles and Refrigerator Canyon on your Angels Landing hike. And your photo and video views from that trail are the best I’ve seen. Just don’t tell anybody about this place, it’s getting far too crowded! Wink. All best to you.
Wow!! That's a wonderful compliment Christopher. Thank you. I know I'll be going back more often for sure. We heard that they may start requiring permits for the Angel's Landing hike. Probably not a bad idea as crowds on that hike...especially through the chained portion only adds to the danger if unlimited people are allowed. It is an absolutely beautiful park and I'm so glad I got to experience it in the Fall.
Glad you got to see it, as well. They are even talking about requiring a permit/reservation to enter the Park, as crowds are getting so bad. Makes me sad. The backcountry places that I used to go with just a permit, now require that you have a reservation for a specific campsite: tent pads of compressed soil. I use a hammock, and the tent pads I have seen don't have "two trees in a row." Rangers were not open to my camping someplace close with trees, even though hammocks don't compress the ground like tents do. Sad for me! I enjoy your videos and photos. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to many more. And remember, don't tell anyone about Zion Park!
I think all the National Parks are just overrun with crowds. Yosemite is an absolute zoo! It's like Disneyland in the summer. Most of the crowds don't venture into the backcountry though. That's the good news.
I chickened out when I got to the chains on Angels Landing. The next day I hiked to Observation Point. Less exposure on the trails and you end up looking down on hikers on Angels Landing. Also, far few hikers on the trail.

One of the most AMAZING And INSPIRING adventure videos I have every seen. Fall color show- feats of bravery. Nice that you added the story of the group of women supporting their friend.
I love your videos, it's great u can go to national parks and hike
I went there in October 2012. hiked it and loved it.
Thank You for the trip to Zion. Very Beautiful Place! Stay Safe, keep post n I'll keep watching. 🙏👍😎 100K Day !!!🎉 Yippee Yay Yay!!!!🎉 4-22-24🎉
Cat you sure have crazy things going on. But be careful and please pray. A person like me I couldn't do it. Scares me just watching you and Dan. Good luck.

You picked a good time to go with all of the fall colors. What an epic hike! Scary I'm sure. A hard climb straight up. Good job!
Loved this video. Went this January and did both, really brings the memories. One of the best experiences of my life
So beautiful. You too! Congrats!
Haha! "Sorry mom. I know this is going to make you nervous." My mom was SO worried I was going to fall. I was a little, too. Not gonna lie! I'm SO scared of heights. I feel good saying that I did it. And have the video to prove it! (For when I'm old and my grandkids don't believe me! haha)
lol! Good for you!! Glad I have this video as well or I might not believe I did it. Thank you for watching!
@del23 aze I know right, I was quite uncomfortable

Breathtaking with the fall colors!🍁 Thanks so much for filming!❤
An incredible visual feast... I gorged myself. Thank you for the hikes and excellent recording.
Oh my goodness! I'm glad you weren't alone. Gulp! Beautiful though.
Just a really wonderful video! Two fantastic hikes, wow! I just have to get back there, thanks again!
Absolutely loved Angel’s Landing hike in November 1999. I hope to return someday again.
Great Job!

Plus you really need to hike the narrows in the winter during the ice falls. It’s undoubtedly dangerous, but seeing it feet away is impressive. You’ll hear a loud crack.....nothing.....then it sounds like a bomb going off when the ice hits rock.
Well that was just insane and Merk is a freaking rock star, you both are!! I got dizzy just watching lol... great job, thank you for sharing!
It was sketchy!! hahaa. Very glad to have done it. Thank you Victoria.
One of the most epic places I ever seen!!
Just absolutely amazing!!
Thank you so much for taking us along!!
I appreciate you coming along and I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you haven't been, I hope you get to visit.
Thank you Karen!
Dangit! Catherine, you are killing me. I'm only 3 minutes in and I already want to go. haha Can;t wait to finish watching later tonight on the tv.
Freaking awesome hike you lucky dog you. I'm jealous! I would love to go there one day.
Thank you Jaxx!! I am lucky!! You gotta get to some of these places. I need to get out to some of your hikes, too!
😎😎🖒🖒
These last national park videos have been wonderful. But I also love the ones when you pack in. Looking forward to your next "experience"!!
Iron Lady of RUclips hiking videos...haha...love it! Thank you so much! The fall colors were incredible. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Wow you been going all over the place. Lucky girl! Keep it up your awesome!
I've been on a roll Ken! haha. Thank you so much.
GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD I WORSHIP YOU.
Wow that’s intense for sure but what amazing views. Thanks for sharing this.
Johnny on the Trail so glad I did it. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful!!!
Love the music..
Top class just beautiful. Thanks for taking us along.
Angels landing was a great hike good job
Thanks for sharing Cat! Great shots of this beautiful park!
Thank you so much for watching and I appreciate the kind feedback. I was blown away by the beauty.
That was fantastic!
Thank you for taking us on your adventure! Now I’ve got to put that on my bucket list!!
Thank you for watching Mike! Glad you enjoyed it. It's definitely one for the bucket list. I don't think you'd regret it. :)
Very nice hiking. Would be nice if can share the plan of the days trip. Suggestion ect. I wanna start my solo trip like you. Thank you!
I went there from NC when I was 20 with a 64 year guy I worked with. And again last year when I was 60 , and loved it .
Thank you.
Excellent. Don't think I'd ever be able to do something like this, even at you're age. Kudos.
Thank you Pat! It was pretty exciting.
Beautiful country thanks for sharing.
It is indeed beautiful. Thank you for watching!
Wow. Amazing. And yeah you and me next year. Let’s backpack there!
Would love to!
Your best video ever, Cat! 👏
Awesome! I have not been there in ages and now I want to go back and hike all over.Good job on your hike. Great video, thanks.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm ready to go back myself. :)
Well done 👍👍 girl!!!
Zion is awesome... Angel is so cool.. took me and my sister longer than we thought but so worth it 😀😀. The narrows are a charm of it's own ...
It is a beautiful, but crowded hike! lol
Thanks! Hiked mono pass, off of tioga red. Stayed at tuolumne meadows camp last night of their season. 30f last night. Burr!
Beautiful awesome fall colors and one amazing hike.
Yes...I was so stoked on the added bonus of the fall color. The hike is one I will never forget.
Zion is magic. You are pretty easy on the eyes too.
I am just like you I love hiking but I am still working but when I retire which will be soon I will be hitting the trails. Thanks a million for the posts.
Yes, thanks a million!
Just found your Zion hiking video, I just did this trip at the first of July. Angels landing is the real deal. Now that I have done it I see no reason to do it again 🤗 the Narrows was also amazing. Great video and pictures
Thank you! I agree with you regarding Angel's Landing. I only needed to do it once. :)
Have a great time! yes, just take it slow and easy and you'll be just fine. You'll be glad you did it. :)
Will do. Thanks again 💙
Hello Catherine, you never cease to amaze dear. This was an awesome adventure. Thanks for sharing. I believe that 'brutal' was a good choose of words for this hike. You, please, continue to be safe out there.🤗
great video! I did all those hikes and few more. Brings back some memories. Zion is a stunning place!
Thank you! Zion is amazing!
Thank you!
Beautifully recordings. I enjoyed to watch this video. Next year we also go to Zion.
Greetings from Belgium
Thank you for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it. You will love Zion! It's a magical place.
beautiful and fantastic, congratulations
Wow, breath taking! Thanks for sharing, absolutely beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your life.
Your back yard, Zion is so beautiful. I absolutely loved my visit. Utah is the greatest state and has a lot to offer to its visitors!
I chickened out when I got to the chains on Angels Landing. The next day I hiked to Observation Point. Less exposure on the trails and you end up looking down on hikers on Angels Landing. Also, far few hikers on the trail.
I’d like to do that hike next time I’m in the park.
Wow, just WOW!
BrianWest58 thank you Brian!
