It is a great ad. I think Aer Lingus should contact the company which made the original ad and upload a HD version, this feels like it has a lot of miles on the clock.

As an Irishman now living the last 18 years in the US, this ad, played on tv when I was a child, now really tugs at my emotional heart strings…

This advert always reminds me of flying to Dublin to see the family over Christmas back in the 80's. Usually the 23rd Dec. The house would be full of family, friends and neighbours. Very happy memories.

Beautiful ad. My Dad was ground crew for Aer Lingus in Shannon in the 80's and 90's. As a child, when this ad came on TV I would be bursting with pride that Dad worked for Aer Lingus! The innocence 😂 It's incredible what sublime advertising can make you feel. Even now watching it, I think that's my Dad's ad and it makes me emotional ☺️

I worked at EI-JFK ground crew at the same time and felt the same way when the Shamrock would land at JFK- you can spot her a mile away upon approach with that distinctive livery. I miss the "Queen of the Skies" and miss flying in them

I don't know why but I almost cried. The scene of a passenger jetliner taking off - the sacramental "Wind XXX at X, cleared for takeoff", the last words of pretakeoff procedure, and the flight engineer slowly advances the throttles, the RPMs and EPR slowly climbing to takeoff power, brakes off and off we go! To the new future, to adventure, to reunite with the loved ones - hundreds of passengers and hundreds reasons to travel. It moves me every time

I found myself here having watched Aer Lingus deliver much needed PPE from Beijing for our health care workers as part of the battle with COVID-19. I think this is the best Irish TV ad. The silhouette of the majestic Boeing 747 with Gabriel's Oboe as the soundtrack is very evocative.
I think the 747 was the greatest machine of the 20th century. It combined tremendous functionality for it's time with an aesthetic profile that has never been matched. Although a huge jet, it was perfectly proportioned from every angle and that hump at the front made it look like the birds it emulates.
But now it is the 21st century and the hub and spoke model of air travel is being replaced with point to point. Smaller, long range, highly efficient two engine jets are more viable. It looks like the days of the four engine passenger jet are over and there are no orders for the 747 past 2022.

The Aer Lingus ad,the ESB ad (the one with the Dusty Springfield song) and the An Post "Walking in the Air" Christmas ad are the ones I remember best from the 80s and 90s as a kid! It is sad to think though that emigrating was the only hope of a good life for so many people back then. 😔
