What happened to ShopKo?

What happened to retailer ShopKo? If you’ve never heard of this place, that’s ok! They were mainly up north. Check out this video to learn about what happened to this company and who they were linked with.

I have so many great memories with ShopKo, having done much of my back-to-school, Christmas and birthday shopping at their stores since I first lived in Wisconsin (along with Prange Way, another Wisconsin discount store that rivaled ShopKo until they went bankrupt in 1995, as well as Kmart until they closed both their Green Bay stores). Ever since ShopKo left, I've done a majority of my shopping at a few other stores with Midwestern roots, including Meijer, Fleet Farm, Target and Kohl's, as well as the world's largest discount retailer with roots in the Ozark region, Walmart.

I worked at Shopko in Twin Falls for 11 years. It was a sad day walking out of that huge empty store.

Thanks for commenting! I didn’t mention it in the video but I used to work at the short lived Paducah location many years ago from the time it opened until it closed. Which was only 2 years but it was a great place to work. I really enjoyed my time there.
