So naughty isn't it. It's hard when you can't see inside. I wish i hadn't bought my John Lewis one as it was always clunky and never seemed right but it was (what I thought at the time) affordable. If I'd just done my research and invested wisely I'd have a machine that is reliable and long lasting :(
@@AbisDen Yes mine is over 10 years old I think. It wasn't great from the start but I thought it was just user error. You'd think John Lewis would've been a good middle ground. Such a shame. Thanks for the handy information all the time. So good to have someone be honest 😊
I won't buy a machine if l can't try it 1st ,going to sewmaster in Reading was the best thing l did after going to jl and few other shops , l wanted to upgrade but needed to try machines to get a feel for it , after trying several l went for the pfraff smarter 260c which is now 6 yrs old , recently had a service and sbe sews beautifully , l love ❤ it . I also got a 90s bernina 1000 special which I need to get to practice on, its my standby , heavy-duty one so will gradually use along with my pfraff
Hi Abi I have recently subscribed and what a fabulous channel. Just bought the necchi after watching you put it through its paces, also have the brothers 420 which I bought 2 years ago . Its true we buy machines for different bits on them, love the electronics buttonhole foot and the fancy stitches on the necchi too . Great channel, good commonsense and fab projects. Thanks a lot .
Fantastic advice for people wanting to purchase a new machine what with so many brands on the market with a slightly different appearance, I notice most are the same except they change the various stitch numbers, very confusing when wanting to buy a newer model, also when one wants to purchase an item they just want it because they have a touch of must-have it. Advice to anyone who wants to buy anything new have yourself a cooling-off period, Because when you are in a not too much of a hurried frame of mind, one usually finds that a week later you don't want it any longer and sensibility comes into effect making you think about what you really want from your hobby and what you .really can afford to spend on your hobby.
Thank you so much Abi, i was about to buy a Brother for £500, but after watching this video, i invested in a Nten machine for £169, which has more features, stiches, and i fill just as well made. so once again THANK YOU, for saving me all that money. now let me see, how much fabric can i buy with the money i saved. Julian
I had never heard of Necchi up to now! so went and had a look around and i really liked the look of the Necchi NC-102D Computerised Sewing Machine, it’s a good price and has a lot going for it. I will keep this company in mind for my next machine and let you know my thoughts and observations.
I was, just today, thinking about new machines. I have a Pfaff 7570 that I love, but it's getting older. It's metal inside and the features are not intuitive, probably because I've had it since the 1990's when it first came out. I got a new Singer 9960 last spring when the Pfaff needed service; I was concerned that it was getting older and honestly, I just wanted an auto thread cutter. But the Singer has disappointed me greatly. It's mostly plastic and bangs along while the Pfaff purrs. I missed the walking foot and the non-automatic (adjustable tension) when I used the Singer. I had a look at the new Pfaff's, which are in the thousands of dollars. They're 10 times what I paid for my Pfaff back in the 1990's! That said, I'd still like some of the newer features. I think I'll be waiting awhile - honestly I'd rather have the Babylock serger that mimics the Jaguar. I'm not sure why the big brands have to be so expensive. I see why seasoned sewers will often advise getting an older, heavier, metal machine. Good advice.
Is the Necchi brand solid enough for advance sewers.? Also can you suggest any budget friendly and robust machine with knee lift pls. Looking forward for ur reply pls. Thanks
What key features do you recommend to look in the sewing machine ? I don't want to buy something to learn and then regret I don't have that one option and will have to upgrade soon.
It's always tricky - I am not pushy - I have done some unboxings and it might be worth having a look - what i should do is a tier list of my machines that I have currently and post that. But to be honest, in no particular order - top loading, good strong feed dogs, and can you drop them, good lighting, how many stitches per minute. If you go for digital or those with decorative stitches, test them yourself!! check they come out nice - some machines are absolute pants for this and if they are rubbish, that demonstrates rubbish feed dogs to me too, so buyer beware! - I am sure there’s more but this list is what I’d consider, also, don’t expect sales staff to demo for you, take fabric similar to what you want to use and test it. If you want to make stretch baby grows, take that fabric with you, if you want to make faux leather bags, take that fabric with you! If the sales rep makes excuses to not demonstrate for you... walk away!!! Trust me, you do not want to buy an expensive dust collector!- good luck!
Awwwww Abi, I just ordered that brother machine 🤣🤣🤣 I was hoping you were going to put it through it's paces. Honestly, I end up panicking that I'll waste my money, so I probably rely on the brand name more than I should. I can't go out and try out the machines either because of corona virus 😳
Its a fab machine and honestly just buy what you think is right for you. I'm just provoking thoughts. Corona is a pain isn't it? I'm sorry you're not able to test machines first hand. I've demo'd it on other videos. I did 'unbox' it 2 years ago but I removed it because my retailer gave me the models to use in class and I felt I was being biased rather than honest. Now, I just think I should get a new, more modern machine to show off - but because Brother don't have anything new on offer, I may just revisit this model. I think Made Everyday was using it her videos over 6 years ago www.madeeveryday.com/my-new-sewing-machine-and-how-to-pick-your-own/ so £599 to me is a heck of a lot for an old model, even Apple reduce their prices after a year :-) Keep safe and well, and fingers crossed we all get through this difficult time.
I don't know if your a mind reader... but honestly I was praying for just this video... I was going to buy the expensive brother embroidery machine that is around $1400... ridiculous...I ordered the necchi 204D this morning. when I applied for the credit card I only needed $489... so $500... they gave me $3500 credit. I'm trying so hard to have self control. I'm dying to get a serger... but I'm clueless. never used one. I want one so badly but I'm so afraid to purchase the totally wrong thing. I'm gonna search your videos for beginner serging... Thank you for your reviews.
Thank you. I do prefer the Jaguar at the moment. It’s got to be my favourite. I believe it’s similar to others but with a different name in the UK. Worth investigating x
Hi Abi, thanks for uploading more useful information! The Necchi I am swaying towards, but my repair guy said the replacement parts aren’t to easy to get hold of, currently using a Janome excel decor 5024 and I love it, but would like a digital machine with fonts for more of finishing etc, and then using the Janome for more standard things. Would you say the Necchi is a good buy as it falls in a lot cheaper than other brand equivalents, take care thanks again
Hi Adam, I’m not sure what you need parts for? It’s not very often we need to replace parts on machines nowadays. As I say, I’ve repaired many, many machines and I don’t replace parts often in any brand. I did have an issue this summer when I couldn’t get a part... I was told by three different places that I need a real engineer ... so I had hubby call for me., all three places offered to sell the part to him without any question as to if he’s sure that’s what he needs. He didn’t know... I just to,d him what he needed to ask for. Anyway... Then I didn’t buy the part, we just fixed the broken part instead and saved the customer £120. It was a pin that slid down and rubber grip had come loose. Honestly, I haven’t had the necchis long enough... but they’re good people and seem to care. With a two or three year warranty, any problems that may arise will present themselves. Though technically, any electronic faults in the UK are covered by UK statutory law for 6 years, but people don’t know this and don’t execute their rights. I’m honestly looking at having Necchi in my classroom. It’s neat and tidy and not so heavy. Sewing machines really don’t need to be as heavy as this model, 10kg. Take care Adam. Good luck with what you choose.
Abi’s Den thanks so much! I think I will go ahead with a Necchi, it’s the fact it comes with everything I’d need that sold it to me, aswell as your unboxing video. I make a lot of things with buttons and zips and having more selections of bottonholes etc and being able to personalise things with fonts etc just gives me that step up from my Janome, machine number 7 may be on order soon then 😂 thanks again! ☺️

The older JL ones were terrible. These newer ones have been made better to match the 219s
