Simple but very effective long-term solution to an annoying problem. I also thought that the end grain glue joints on the ring would be a little weak, but knowing that they would not neet much strength for what you were going to do with them, I didn't think you would reinforce them. I like the spline solution you came up with. The template you used to cut the slots on the table saw was very clever. Using the original plastic bag as a connector was also a great idea. If it ever rips or wears out, you can replace it with any clear plastic - a drop cloth, a shower curtain, etc. Just cut a strip and duct tape the ends together to make a tube.
Great ides Cosmas, I would be inclined to use a canvas tube (make one from an old tent etc) instead of the plastic to connect the bin to the collector and insert a plastic window into the bin to see the level.
Did you run a small groove on the outside of the wooden ring for your hose clamp to sit in? I'm glad you posted this. It's a problem I'm sure lots of people experience.
I have the same dust collector and have problems with hooking it up to a planer. Since there is a plastic mesh on the intake (before the impellor) it tends to clog with bigger shavings. Sawdust is not a problem. Do you use your DC for planing as well? Have same problems?
Thats a nice and easy to make idea! Ill have to do that to my SPA1200 too asap. If you dont mine me asking, what type/size barrels are those you are using? They look a lot more practical with the handle and all than those i can get at Reiffeisen and other local sellers.
Wow! That's brilliant! I hope you don't mind me sharing this on my Woodcraft page. Great job! Ever consider drawing up plans for what you did for different models? I can't help but think you could design and develop an aftermarket accessory on this idea that would sell quite well. Maybe have a factory crank out a lighter heavy duty plastic collar rather than the wood to keep costs down? Regardless, that's an incredibly well thought out and built Mod! I'd buy one! Lol!
The result of my watching this vid is realizing how out of sawdust I am. I dump w/e comes out of the shop vac because it's a mix containing abrasive particles and metal grit and odd bits that I vac up from the floor. I try to collect the pure sawdust I make on the band saw and some of the stuff I make on the drill press, but I have been lazy for the last few years, and I'm all out of saw dust. If you ever need to remove the residue from a sticker, say one of those ubiquitous product code stickers that is stuck on everything we buy anymore, the answer is sawdust. After scraping the sticker away with a chisel, take a dish of sawdust and squirt some solvent in it. Alcohol usually works. Then grab a handful of the wet saw dust and rub it over the residue.
you should have used cloth instead of that plastic bag, an old courtain or bed sheet even stick together with glue if you cant sew it would probably work just as good and last a lot longer ✌️
I like the use of a template to exactly belt sand the parts. Simple yet effective. 🅰🆇🅴🅻🅻🅴🅽🆃👍🏼😃
Ditto.
Nice upgrade

Thanks Cosmas. That's a very cool idea to a really annoying problem. I think I will be following your lead very soon. Thanks again.

Great idea Cosmas! Thanks for sharing the video with us.👍😎JP
For that kind of setup, wow, well done.
Great idea to solve a very common problem.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Merry Christmas Cosmas
Thanks for sharing the great tip, I will be doing the same for mine.
Cheers
That's brilliant, mate.
Thanks for showing how & sharing that
Superbe idée ! 👍👍
You and Jeremy Schmidt would make an awesome collaboration!
Smart move Cosmas!
Смотрю и понимаю, бошковитые и рукастые парни нигде не пропадут, а с таким-то инструментом - тем более

..you just solved one of my problems..great build...
Where did you get those band clamps from? I could use some of them. nice video

Rock on..well done.
Cosmas use the sawdust as fuel mix to with news papper and make briquettes out of it

Just cut the mesh out ant it will be fine.
Yes, very cool.
Good idea; could you give a web site for the steel barrel ? Thank's
Nice rig good job
Besides this issue with how bag is attached, are you happy with that cheap Metabo collector?
Thats a nice and easy to make idea! Ill have to do that to my SPA1200 too asap.

Excellent ! What sort of glue did you use? It looks very white, is it a pva glue?
Exactly!
Very smart solution

Hey Comas, when the next part of making table saw ? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
I don't know. Haven't started yet.
Merry Christmas!
Clever and useful!
Well done Cosmas. I'm sure that the initial cost of those barrels is offset by ease, convenience, and time savings.
More videos Cosmas..please
Good job.
wont the plastic bag section become ripped?
No, because there is way less stress on it than when a full bag of sawdust is hanging off of it.

Genius
Perfekte Lösung!
Just make another cyclone, cyclone boy!
Ich habe im Moment eine sehr ähnliche Absauganlage der Firma Elektra Beckum abzugeben. Bei Interesse gerne melden.
