UPDATE LATE 2019!!! The clones new are $300.00 and original tech2s are $750.00+ used. Maybe a shipment from China to the U.S. marks up the original ten-fold. Lol Bought my fine China DIRECT, for $320.00. WORKS GREAT ON MY SAAB.
I own both a Genuine & a Clone. The difference everyone ignores is that the originals feel "heavier" than the clones. I can tell the difference as soon as I pick it up. The original has some weight to it. The Clones feel light compared to it's size. The Clones usually reboot when restarting the car. I wired in an external battery to keep my Clone from restarting after engine startup (so frustrating). I bought the Clone after my Genuine went down. Up to now, rarely use it, but after less than 6 months, a line on the screen burnt out. I found a replacement screen for about $110 on ebay, but I've found a complete Clone Kit for $315 ... so why bother repairing it. I opened up the Clone & it has a cheap isolated DC-DC converter (power supply). Over the new year, I bought another Tech2 (for backup after my Original started acting up again). This one felt light, but didn't reset after engine startup. I opened up the unit & it had an upgraded power supply! So you can replace the power supplies & fix the restart problem, but for $20 I like the external battery solution... I only had to cut 1 wire & splice into the ground wire on the Candi Module. Also, as a added benefit, you don't have to use an extra power cable on the older Pre-OBDII cars, just run off the battery.
Vetronix is the parent company bought out by Bosch. HP and IBM made the processors for the original tech 2's that were made by Vetronix before Bosch bought them.
I picked up an over seas one for less than $300 shipped. Delivered in 4 days from China. Comes with everything except the case. TIS2000 software, Candi module, adapters, power supply, etc. 32MB GM English ver 33.xx
I'm thinking of doing the same. admittedly I know next to nothing about these things. what all is involved with getting them to work. I have a 2012 chevy 2500HD that I want a tech 2 for
+Th3R4junC4jun Nothing special involved. Just use it and it works. There is any special knowledge needed to use them, they're pretty straight forward. Once you go through the menus, you'll get the hang of it. Flash programming is only supported to years 07-08 on certain models. Anything after that, GM changed the way things are flashed. Now you have to have a subscription to their service. But for testing and module setups, it should be fine.
This is My story Today I receive My GM Tech 2 scanner from China (clone) When I went to make a scanner in a CAR brand Chevrolet Sail year 2015, I had a serious problem. In the beggining the scanner aparently works fine, but when I connected and turn on tHE CAR, tHE scanner Was turned off, and began to emanate smell of Burning
What's funny is that GM uses the Same Company as the clone company. They just put different labels on them and up the price. GM does not make the tools, they outsource to have them made. The difference between Tylenol and Walgreen's brand. Save your money and shop around!
Would that be Vetronix Corp., by chance? I don't have the dough for an OEM, at $1500 used. And, If my Saab CIM module ever shits the bed, I would like to be prepared to marry a new one the ECU (at home!). And, the closest facility, that still services Saabs, is 1.5hr drive. I'll be damned if I'm going to flatbed my car down there. Great place, but too far! It's where I bought the car. Been a real good car! 2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T HO turbo.
There are more differences if you pay good attention to the front label markings on the candi module and on cards, oh, yes, check out the plastic edges a bit more careful.
Interesting you said the clone does everything the original does, and guessing with a hacked TIS2000 should allow most diagnosis and repair of modules and programming parameters,
Nano M Basically yes, but the issue is that it's copy write infringement. Though most don't mind buying a copy cat brand with the same essential functions and basic quality for a tenth of the price, doing this causes the original company (GM and their affiliates) to raise the prices significantly because they're losing money making it even harder to get the hardware at all.
So apparently I purchase a clone now the company tells me if I updated it's just going going to shut down, and not work is this true? or can i just purchase a 32g card that's already updated and use it in the tech2 could that still work could you help me out please.
Alyson Griffin they're the same unit with different band processors, but the same functions. GM used both Vertronix and HP before Bosch bought the rights of ownership. The "knock off" versions say they are Vertronix (normally) but to the best of my knowledge are off brand processors with false labels. It's essentially a blank generic motherboard with the TECH II software programed into it after assembly. So to assume they're a different product based on the brand of processor used is not an accurate assumption. Sorry to burst your bubble.
had one of these for 18 months. great code reader but either the main body or the cartridge have failed and there is no support from the manufacturer or seller. buyer beware.
They were made by quite a few companies, HP, Bosch and Vetronix are the ones I know about, I just assume Vetronix are a little easier to get away with TM infringements
I own a repair facility and own multiple OE scan tools. Since the MDI is used on all the later vehicles I decided to buy the knock off unit. It is a piece of crap.
What a shit situation. Not knowing if you have a clone or not. I thought bosch were a trusted company only justvread they bought Vetronix and then made shit units. Anyway that is to be confirmed so dont take my word for that. I read it on an ebay message about buying tech 2's

Are you able to program with your clone Tech2? (Saab Keys, modules, etc.)
@@bubbles8491 yes , on both my viggen and 9000 aero with no issues

Nono, these are all recreations. Vetronix did not make that clone. :)
No the original was made in the USA and the clone was made in china...

If the two work the same, where can I get a good clone?

do you still have to pay GM for the car update info ?? if so how much and can you with a clone ?

Hello Sir,
Do you know if this Tech2 with Globaltis will work for 2010 9-3 when I need to program new key fob?
Nice Video,
did you also tested am GM MDI Tech3.

Bob
So the Chinese cards failed on you after several uses? After that you just had to reload the software and they worked fine?
He failed to mention that the clone will reboot everytime you crank the car cause the crappy voltage regulator in it.
Have had the China MDI didn't have any problems. except don't use wifi
how much does the software cost to use the mdi?
+Stephen Cunningham just bought MDI for about $1000 you have to buy a script thru gm for that
Comparing oranges to apples. These are two different units. One is Verotech and other is Hewlett Packard!

YAY I have a clone
+TECH BILL LOL I got one too from FleeBay. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope that its has the same capability of the Real GM Tech2
Sammy Weyland did it work ?

Can you program modules using ac delco site
You have to call in.
So, nobody sees he is comparing 2 absolutely different units? One is HP, another one Vetronix.
They were made by quite a few companies, HP, Bosch and Vetronix are the ones I know about, I just assume Vetronix are a little easier to get away with TM infringements
& HP stands for HIGH PRICE!! & Hewlett Packard

Where did you buy the cline from and how much did you pay

This "clone" you speak of IS NOT a knock-off. It was made by Vetronix Corporation, which is actually the original company that manufactured the unit.
I search the original and only can find clone
U Can Only Buy the Tech 2 by contacting GM or the GM Brands
I'm confused as why someone would get the real tech2 and spend thousands when they're on ebay for much less and do the same thing
