Biden needs to drop out and free his delegates. He is not electable again. He literally could not have done anything worse than how he performed last night. I'm as left leaning as they come and will vote for ANYONE other than Trump, however that display last night rattled the core of his ability to perform the job, let alone showed his ability to communicate effectively to get there. People will stay home and not vote after that abomination of a debate, which will hand Trump the Presidency.

Ill vote for him. But really my vote will be against Trump. I think Biden will continue to surround himself with good people in his administration. But his participation in his administration in his second term will likely be held back and more of a figure head, whereas I think his first term he did use his wealth of knowledge and experience to benefit his preorgatives. Maybe he's still much better in small groups and one on one than better on stage.
      Shit was painful though.

Biden should step down for the good of the country. A shame after 40 years of public service, he appeared 30 years older than Trump, old man shuffle, frail voice and posture, painful watching him struggle to come up with words, leaving the public with the perception of early stages of dementia. Trump likely will cancel all future debates and Biden would not be able to recover after this night.

  • @cradio52
    @cradio52 3 дня назад +8

I was *always* someone who said the age factor literally didn’t matter… until the second Biden opened his mouth on that debate stage last night.
The content of Biden’s responses were actually spot on and really great (at least what he was able to get out) - he actually spoke about policies and actions, whereas Trump didn’t outline one single policy that he’ll do. He just kept saying he’ll magically fix everything and it’ll all be perfect and the best ever in the world. No substance. No specifics. Nothing. Unfortunately, however… that’s not how you win political debates.
At this point, I genuinely think Biden and the party need to gather up, hunker down, choose a successor for Biden to name and then have him give a stirring emotional and inspirational speech in the spirit of FDR’s Fireside Chats, where Biden calls back to how he’s always said he’s going to keep it straight with the American people and level with us - that he hears our satisfaction with the technical job he has done and knows that the majority of Americans agree with his policies and vision for the country, but he hears our concerns and fears about his age - he’s just too damn old. So he’s doing the right thing, being above any one man and protecting the Constitution by taking the drastic but necessary step of naming Gavin Newsom (or whoever) as his preferred successor and he’s stepping out of the race. Make it super firm, strong and inspirational, like he’s doing this because he respects America and so badly needs the American dream to continue because if Donald Trump is elected it will just straight up die. A desperate time calls for a big, unprecedented action in order to save the soul of the country, etc. etc.
We can then all come together and be like yeah you know what, come on people - it’s Donald F*king Trump we’re facing here. We can’t let that guy and his people win. Let’s just do this.
And then everyone will actually *show up* and *actually vote* in overwhelming numbers due to a sense of shared Patriotism or whatever. It could be a f*king beautiful part of American history, and Biden would go down as one of the most respected politicians in history for putting the Constitution and the “American Dream” above any one man. We can then spend the next four years organizing around a total clean slate, with fresh new candidates for 2028, because we’ll be rid of both Biden and Trump at that point. We could truly start over.
But we have to actually survive these next four years to get there, and that won’t happen if Donald wins.

Not all old people have dementia. Some people develop cognitive issues after a stroke ( I.e., Fetterman - although Fetterman seems to have recovered, at least somewhat). The odds of developing dementia increases with age, and Biden seems to have, unfortunately, lost many marbles over the past few years. And going downhill quickly. Trump, OTOH, like him or not, is still mentally sharp and physically healthy, despite his advanced age.

I agree that the reason this debate happened so unprecedentedly early was to give the party the chance to replace him. That doesn't mean any such decision was actually reached... or even discussed. But I think some of the people involved in the decision wanted this test to happen before it was too late to pull the emergency exit. That doesn't mean those people will be able to successfully pull that emergency exit. I do not think this is any kind of decision that has been made by anyone in power. But I think that was why there was advice to do it early as opposed to not to do it early.

I have seen lots of political parties in other democratic countries like Germany do this all the time and no one is worse off because of it. Anyway, I don't think it will be that difficult for convention delegates to come together and select someone quickly.

The parties alergicness to 'messyness' is a systemic problem. It resembles the problem in a Japanese Boardroom where no one is willing to 'break the harmony' and mass deference to age and seniority become the path of least resistence and refusal to call out the leaderships failures becomes a path of least resistence, even while everyone wishes that someone else would say what needs to be said.

It was messy for the Democratic establishment to put their own self preservation ahead of their country and their party by rallying behind awful candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 when Bernie Sanders had a clear plurality & was winning primaries in decisive battleground states that Clinton ended up losing. The Democrats are still reeling from that misstep and so is the country as a whole. Messy politics is the norm nowadays. Just win, baby…just win.

Trump had one of the worst debate performances in history... but Biden was SO MUCH WORSE. The DNC never should have shut down the primaries. He never should have run. He needs to drop out now and be replaced. There are several consensus candidates that the party would begrudgingly accept. Whitmere is mentioned often. Bashear is my top choice. Newsome sucks, but he's a really good campaigner and competent (though terribly corrupt). Jon Stewart would never happen, but that would be awesome. He isn't qualified by experience but he has a Kennedyesque ability to find the best people and still hold his own with them as a leader of the views of the people.

And Katie Porter lost to underhanded tactics by the corrupt and unpopular Adam Schiff who used his enormous big money donors to promote the Republican because he was afraid he'd lose to her in a 2 person race. As for her qualities, she is an excellent explainer, excellent at holding people's feet to the fire, repeatedly won a district that leans red, oh, and she also is the reason Covid tests were free for several years under Trump. And nobody better explains political corruption and how to fight it than she does. Explaining why your President is right is the most important skill for a VP to have. Harris is really good at it, but Biden doesn't let her. Honestly, Porter would be my pick for President, but the party would never do that. There’s no one that actually believes this. The clear vision comment I think is most laughable, because half his answers ended in incoherent rambling.

C'mon, dude. You didn't actually believe those words that you typed. Life is short and precious. Why are you wasting it repeating stuff you don't even believe, in order to benefit people who aren't you and who don't represent your interests?
We all wanna' hear what you *actually* think. Real people are so much more insightful, and worth listening to.

This is exactly what I need to hear. People who are as bad as typical MSM at punditry, which is good because the MSM punditry matters more than the actual debate. And then also people who are excellent at the numbers.

This was not a debate. It was Trump using a technique that actually has a formal name, the Gish gallop, although I suspect he comes by it naturally. It’s a rhetorical technique in which someone throws out a fast string of lies, non-sequiturs, and specious arguments, so many that it is impossible to fact-check or rebut them in the amount of time it took to say them. Trying to figure out how to respond makes the opponent look confused, because they don’t know where to start grappling with the flood that has just hit them.
It is a form of gaslighting, and it is especially effective on someone with a stutter, as Biden has. It is similar to what Trump did to Biden during a debate in 2020

This was not a comment. It was a technique that has a formal name, the cope, which I suspect you come by naturally. Cope refers to a mechanism or a self-delusion that an individual clings to in order to survive a situation that seems insurmountable.
Trump rebutted the countless lies Biden lobbed (Charlottesville being the most comical), and effectively circled back to the questions. The format was intended to harm Trump but it really worked in his favor. He appeared honest, calm, and coherent. Biden, on the other hand, came across as confused and angry.
I'm an independent. Trump earned my vote tonight. It's terrifying that Biden is leading the free world right now.

Why is it when you want to criticize Trump you only note lines that you'd have to be a terminally liberal, blue-no-matter-who Democrat to be upset over? It's such a strange thing. I can't imagine that highlighting responses which turn off a New York City liberal voter is really very meaningful analysis.

I have a friend who is a delegate. I'll be talking to him before the convention. He's a low lever first time delegate, a state senator. So not like he has any real power. But at least I'll tell him my views.

This debate proved that Dem voters have been gaslight on the competency of President Biden.
Will Dem voters figure out that they have also been gaslight on Trumps character?

@JeffPalasek-cw2hv Trump literally broke the record of most lies told in a Presidential debate. Biden may have misquoted some statistics, you can't compare the 2.
