Dumpster Diving at KROGER for the First Time! Food, Drinks, and More Rescued!

  • Wow I can’t believe we actually found a dumpster behind Kroger!! They always have a compactor.. so it’s either currently not working, or they just had so much to throw away they needed both. It’s a small peek into the amount of good food and beverage items that corporations throw away on a daily basis. This is my biggest motivator to be a dumpster diver - to rescue items that should never have been put in the trash in the first place!
Everything we found today will be donated and given away to the community for free. The shoes and baby items have already been picked up, and the sodas will be taken to the free pantries in town tomorrow! As always, thank you so much for watching out dumpster dive adventures and I hope you have a wonderful day! xoxo

I dumpster dived regularly in the 70's to help support my kids as a single mother. To save myself time and trouble I use to layer the top of the dumpster with flat cardboard so at a glance on another day that week I could tell what was new no muss no fuss. just a thought, thx for video Love and blessings

I worked at Kroger years ago in the Deli Dept. It was located right next to the Produce Dept. I was Beyond Shocked at the Perfectly Good Food being Thrown Out. When New Shipments of food came in, like the Deli, Bakery, Produce, Fish, Meat and Dairy, the Still Good Food would be Tossed into the Trash Compactor and Crushed. After seeing the Horrific Waste for 5 yrs. I finally walked out. On my last day, I was told to Toss Out 9- 3lb. solid meat hams. I said NO, I Won't do that!! There are too many Hungry People out there. Of course, I was being a "Difficult Employee"!! Every Grocery Store Does This!! Tons of Good Food Wasted Every Day!! Also Restaurants, Fast Food Chains too, everyday!! Not One Person Would Have to go Hungry in this Country. It's Sickening What They Do!!

It is very sad, but they always give the excuse of if someone gets sick they can sue them. I don’t know how much truth there is to that. Our local Publix does give their day old bread to our thrift store.

I live in Canada. There are a lot of grocery stores in my city that donate their day old bakery bread. They also freeze meats that didnt sell and give them to the local churches and food banks. Hopefully more grocery food chains do the same. So many people go hungry when they dont have too. You are absolutely right about how much food went to waste in that big dumpster. So sad.

Love watching you guys rescue stuff....especially food....I have a friend who was a manager of a local grocery store....he said it was horrific the amount of perfectly good food his company forced him to throw out.....he would try to turn a blind eye on people who would dive to rescue it but his higher upside used to threaten his job if he didn't run them off.....it's just so sad when so many could use that food....we could solve hunger in this country with the waste of these corporations.....as a person who went hungry before in my life it just makes me so angry! Keep doing what you do.....every little bit makes a difference ❤

I live in England and we have several dumpster diving people " being streetwise " " Living free " follow them to see what they get. They have found food donations centres throw away food that they could donate to families in need. One of our big supermarkets / clothes/ home furniture shop M&S are supposed to have policies that they don't throw away food policy, but they do.

Score! I love watching you - you two bring a ray of sunshine into my life as I am working (I have my own business). I saw all those eggs. You know how to test an egg for freshness right? First smell them if suspect. Look for cracks. If cracked, throw it out. As an egg gets older it gets more air inside, the air pocket will be at the larger end. You get a big pan or bowl and put the eggs in there...water needs to cover them plus a couple inches. The fresh eggs will lay down at the bottom in a horizontal position, the more air in them the more they float. If they got all the way to the top it is stale and throw it out. If it starts floating to the top these are best to make hard boiled eggs out of. On a carton you want to see the "packing date", which tells more than the sell by date, they should be used within 3 weeks, but can be used up to 5 weeks stored in a refrigerator. Once hard-boiled can store up to 1 week more. You can even freeze eggs but I've never done this myself, I hear you wisk them, but not too much because if they get frothy. You can get a plastic zip bag and put like 4 wisked eggs in a bag, and mark the bag wit the date. When ready to use run under warm water to thaw. hope that helps, but you probably already knew all this. Even if they are bad - floaters...they are still great for gardening. I heard that if you plant a tomato plant - already started, throw an egg down in the bottom of the hole when planting to help it grow. Ok back to watching what else you find!

I've been pretty upset about that whole concept all night. I looked in two different Aldi's dumpsters tonight and there was so much wasted food. 30 packages of chicken legs three or four of them were cold the rest were room temperature. So many grapes so many coleslaws and salads and peppers. Then I went to a Dollar general and there were over 30 gallons of milk that they had opened poured a little bit out of and put the lid back on so goodness nobody else could use and they couldn't donate it to a food pantry apparently. I've just been incensed.

We also have several food pantries and banks and church's that go to the Kroger's stores every evening and are allowed to load up as much product as they want before it goes into the dumpster. However, Hy-vee, Aldi's, Dollar General, Dollar tree and Walmart donate very little if anything. Also our papa Johns will give out any of their products that didn't sell at closing time.

Thank you so much for saving that big haul. I wish that they would just donate that stuff but at the end of the day, it's theirs to do what they want. unfortunately.

Hi, just wanted you to know you need to go to Save a Lots and dollar general, and Ald's. Those are the ones who have a lot to get. I don't know if there's any of these around you but it's worth the trip. Good luck! 😀

I want to say I believe you can donate single shoes to certain places for people who don't have both limbs. If I find the information. I will let you know. I've heard others say they've done that before which I think is neat.

We have ducks and chickens. We don’t refrigerate our eggs and they can last a good month left out on the sink counter.

Awesome 👍🏾,the egg test... place the egg submerged in water, if the egg lays down, it's good, when it stands up, good but need to consume,if it floats, toss not good 🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Good thinking on leaving lighter things, Alex! It’s always risky to leave stuff bc if a store employee sees they’ll just throw it back but I try to do the same thing just hide it a bit lol

I wish that Kroger I have gotten too before did not have a compactor! I remember around the first time I went before I knew they had a compactor, someone left some bread out for anyone to take. I was happy to see that. Compactors should be banned on all levels, destroying perfectly good merchandise and food, sending items to the landfill, it's not right and that should be illegal! 🤔

Crack the eggs and scramble them. Pour into ice trays and freeze. When frozen pop out and put in baggies. 1 cube =1 egg. Thaw for scrambled eggs, to put in cakes, etc.

Those chairs do not even look trustworthy to sit in. And I like Home Goods they have some really nice looking things. Nice day on your findings. Also look for the trash bag that is normally by the register that they throw the gift cards in after a cudtomer uses them And sometimes there is still money on them. Those childrens shoes are so cute.

If the eggs are good you can freeze them. And all you have to do is put them in water. If they float they are bad if they stay on the bottom they are good.

Hey Kelly & Alex! Quick question, do you ever find bag fills of receipts when you go diving? There’s an app where you get paid to scan in receipts and it can be your own or ones that you find. I think the diver salty Stella does it and mentioned it on her tiktok ♥️ love your latest videos! 😍😍

omg is it Fetch Rewards?? My sister uses that app all the time and loves it! I never gave it a real try, but the idea of scanning found receipts makes me want to get back into it! Thanks for reminding me 😍

Fetch, Ibotta, Checkout 51, and one something Hog...I don't remember which one has a limit on same company receipts they'll accept in a row. It allowed a pretty good amount.

If you find receipts for food places like Chick fil A and you have a rewards signed up , you can scan the new receipt

    • @conniecarroll747

I'm not sure that I understand the concept of this. You are scanning receipts from places you've been and not been and you get PAID for it ? Is it a lot or a few cents each ? Due to health issues in my home we have to run to several stores each week so I would like to know.
