How The Cavs Expertly Utilize Kyle Korver

- The Cleveland Cavaliers have a great shooter in Korver, and they get him great shots in their offense. They look for him in transition, run him off screens, and run great set plays for him. They also work the backscreen between him and LeBron on occasion. NBA pindowns.

Moving without the ball is a fine craft that many all-time great snipers mastered. Ray Allen, Reggie Miller, Rip Hamilton, just to mention a few.
Sheldon Spoc
It's something Korver's always been good at, but he's not the only one; lots of spot-up shooters like Klay Thompson and JJ Redick are also great at this, Steph Curry as well though he's less of a spot-up shooter
Sheldon Spock
Vince Carter too. People don't realize it, but he was a headache for perimeter AND paint defenders in his hayday.
Kyle Korver. I think is the most consistent/efficient catch and shoot 3pt shooter in NBA History. Ty Lue finally using Korver to good use. He has okay perimeter defense. I mean everybody knows he isn't the best defender. But he makes up for it with his impact offensively . He has so much gravity that it just spaces out the floor so much. Kyle Korver is a very valuable asset of the Cavaliers
ChrisK26 Unfortunately only Korver and Bron, or maybe Crowder feel like they have decent perimeter defense. Last few games they've been improving but to challenge the Warriors the cavs are gonna need to step up perimeter defense.
Farhan Sam Totally agree.
100%👌
Farhan Sam Man evan reading you’re comment makes me mad, cause I watch all of the cavs games and I was so pissed, cause they were not defending the players well, evan if curry was on the floor. Not mad at you but the cavs better step up their defensive game before play-off time comes!
ChrisK26 oh and to add to my comment, LeBron shouldn’t do all the work on the floor and play 35 minutes per game and be the alpha dog or top-dog
This guy is just too good
Damn, giving away all my Cavs secrets
Rick Richardson lol
True
Lol I'm pretty sure all teams watch film and their staff is just as knowledgeable. It's their job...
Ahahaha you just have to watch games to see that how is that a secret
King Phil I'm only kidding lol
King Phil your life must be boring 😑
He saved our butts the past 4 games
Immortal Vegan Where was Korver's 3-pointers during losses to NON-PLAYOFF teams earlier this season ????
DeAndre Page It isn't always his fault. Sometimes Ty Lue doesn't run plays for him.
ChrisK26 I watch games & have coached basketball, you have to EARN special plays in PRACTICE 😎😎😎😎. Every coach wants to win, you have to earn their confidence.
DeAndre Page hey.. Even curry is 0 points in 4th quarter
DeAndre Page he past 4 games... Read comment first
Thanks for the Cavs episode. Really great analysis.
I would really love to hear your thoughts on what's not working in their defense, which has mostly been terrible this season.
Pretty simple, effort
tocov no effort, old as fuck, and no-one other than LeBron and DWade have ever been known ad defenders so should we really be surprised that they suck? Cavs won't get out the 2nd round let.alone win a chip
Jae Crowder and Iman Shumpert are literally only known for playing good D.
Effort plays a part in it, but seeing as they have consistently shown the same problems, I think there's a more complicated tactical issue with the way they defend. As far as I can see, it has much to do with Love playing center out of position and getting bullied, which makes his teammates help him and leave the lane open, couple that with the fact that they switch EVERYTHING and you have guards having free trips to the basket.
But I would love to hear Daniel's take on things.
I don't know about the championship, but thinking the Cavs don't win the east, with the way LeBron usually beasts in the playoffs, is a bit delusional.
Remember they are still playing without TT, Rose and Isiah.
tocov I
tocov I don't think any of the Cavs guards fit together and no-one plays any D. For all IT does on offense he's a huge liability on defense against good point guards and I honestly don't think some if the players want to play with lebron and kyrie was just the only one with the balls to make it known
Great analysis ! I've been saying for years that Korver does so much than just shoot 3's and he doesn't get credit for . people can criticize his defense abilities which are not great but its not the lac of effort, he will go 100% every time and help on double team. he is the best 3 point shooter ever and that's fact. No. 5 on the all time list with a career 45% from beyond the arc and all that he while being a Bench player for his entire career
Elay Cohen yup. And if he can play until 40 or 39 with LeBron, I bet he can pass Ray Allen's on that list. As bench, yea damn!
Alan KS he will never pass ray Allen
Finally someone who actually has a above average knowledge of the game 💯 nice upload 👌🏽
My favorite video of yours so far, really love how you show how a player, or in this case more specifically a shooter might be effective in an offense even tho they are not directly involved. Keep up the good work!
Had no idea you actually existed, this was one of the most entertaining analysis I watched ever. You earden one bud, keep it going
Thanks for putting this together, so much stuff going on and when you dont know nothing you only see the ball, Great stuff.

KORVER HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE PLAYER SINCE FOREVER
Bandwagon lol
That is an unfair statement. You don't personally know how long that person has been a fan of Korver
No... he’s been your favourite player...
Korever
RedAce34 I wanted to say the same thing 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah they give him the ball and he knocks down almost half of them. Great utilization man
Amazing analysis
Well done man. Thanks for the break down. I like to think I see these unfold, but definitely am not quick enough to see it at full speed in the moment.
Last year lue utilized him terribly.. our offense was 5 out, set one off ball screen for korver to come to the wing, if they fought through it then just go stand on the perimeter and watch LeBron or kyrie go one on 5 and try and score or kick out.. he was basically useless in that garbage offense.. but this year he's moving beautifully, kinda like cold to start off games but comes up clutch later.. the offense is running smoother using more off ball screens so he can get open, also the only part of the video I thought was missing was how this year he's using his movement for layups.. they set the screen high and when they try that top lock they space the floor and he just rim runs and gets a layup everytime.. also him and frye come on the floor and work very well together as you showed in the video
Cody Eble Yeah I Noticed it to. Him, Kevin and Fyre had to wait till Bron or Kyrie kick it out. That why all 3 was basically Trash when they play the Warriors (love was good game 1-4) But now Fyre, Love , and Kyle All Improve In the mid Range and all 3 is cutting to the basket. And if Someone Try to block it they pass it to someone who open in the 3 point line
Cody Eble Wade and Jae and even Jr Smith have been good cutting to and Shump getting open looks
Great Stuff
I really enjoyed the Video. Thank Yiu
Dang this man Lue really cooking up some nice plays for Korver
Kyle korver mr. 4Th quarter
Mr, 4th Korver
Mr 4th Quarter needs to prove it in the playoffs
37 yrs old, Korver is nba wine. If Jr could move through screens like korver it would make cavs such a double edged sword. Owell contested fade away jumper #HennythingIsPossible
Trayn Ikhwanan VERY ACCURATE! 💪🏽💯
Great work coach.
very good explanation coach
thanks
Good analysis !!!
Just found this channel. So far I think you're better than BBallbreakdown at least what it is now. So please do more videos more often. :)
Favorite Player.
it's hard to find premier technical analysis this good
My man kyle korver on fire against sacromento kings dropping threes left to right, keep it up!
Great video
Great vid
excellent video
After the NBA Finals, Kyle Korver told reporters he felt like a garbage time player basically reduced to Corner jumpshots 😎😎😎.
This season is nothing like the NBA Finals for Korver.
Thank you and God bless
great video
Wow that was great thanks.
highlight factory missed u man
Korver - the ultimate floor spacer.
Amir Abaza Steph and klay over him anyday imo
Darryl 03 I would too, but they are in a different category than him because they can creat their own shot.
Amir Abaza klay can't create his own shot
A B He can. He doesn’t have enough opportunities to show that.
good job!
Yo! Can you please do a video breaking down how/why OKC seems to blow so many leads in the second half of their games? What are defenses doing to shut down successful plays in the first half, and why aren't OKC able to counter-adjust to their opponents?
I'd be willing to bet it's that they stop passing the ball in crunch time and just start playing iso ball, since that's always how Westbrook's teams have been and why they've always seemed to struggle in crunch time.
You do a great job explaining this man, it s all true and accurate
dope plays. wish they coached us this in highschool
Great shooters are also the most active off-ball players. Korver and Redick both move around a lot on offense, making it really difficult for defenses to stay on point.
Portland Trailblazers Playbook would be perfect for Korver.
Pindowns & Flare screens.
Nice vid
this is why korver>JR
What a pure shooter....
REAL!!
The Cavs Secret Weapon
Kyle Korver is a catch and shot mad machine
Where do you learn all of this terminology and strategy? I love the technicality of it all. Thank you for the understandable explanations.
Reading Zach Lowe and Ben Falk will help you, and watching me and bballbreakdown.
Thank you!
Coach!! Im early!! Reply to me + i love your videos!
Hey!
I love how i already know this!!!
I bet he worked his butt off on his even quicker release , it's looked so impressive to me .
Kyle Korver is secret weapon in the cavs.
coach lue is a great coach after all
This is great, as are your videos
Wish he could play some defense, he would be extremely valuable for the Cavs
lol he is actually playing better defense than Jr. Smith.. if you watch closely his games this season his defense is actually better than any other cavalier player aside from Lebron James.
Στεφανος Μπελλος he's already extremely valuable
Kyle Korver For 3 I remember Marcus Smart exposing him when they played the Celtics. He is valuable right now but when Playoffs time opponents will start to pick on him
Kyle Korver For 3 You are funny asf for that statement.
Can't erase over 10 years of video on Kyle Korver's below average defense. Cleveland will have to bench Korver for defense plenty of times this season, not even talking about playoffs.
Στεφανος Μπελλος Because Kyle Korver is just someone who guards the perimiter. And what do you mean exposed? Everybody knows Korver has difficulty guarding inside.
well explained...
Nice
I wonder what korver or currys personal best when it comes to consecutive 3s made in practice is?
Mr splashton "fourth" korver is a true sharp shooter, he always relocate, one shot one kill....
In The Opening Season (BOS VS CAVS) Great Offense ,While Derrick Rose And LBJ Pick and Roll
Kevin Love And Kyle Korver Pick And Roll Too,Because All Know Kyle Korver Is A Shooter ,The Celtics Didn't realize LBJ will take the shot, and they did not realize that Lbj and Dr do the p and r nice offense by cavs and nice understanding coach daniel
Corver and Curry have best off the ball movement in the league right now. Corver reminds me a lot of Reggie Miller's game.
yes very good insight he shoots a lot of 3s
Hey coach please make a video on your best teams using the shot clock.
My pick
Houston first 6 seconds.
Warriors next 9.
Celtics last 9.
I wouldn't say "expertly" as to how the Cavs use this incredible, underrated shooter.
I never thought Kyle Korver could change an offense so drastically and significantly. Who wouldn't want him on the team?
Damn you are good
Can you make a video on what the Pistons are doing to have an 11-5 record?
Thank you-i have the same opinion
Man take this vid down the warriors are gonna watch this vid and find out the secret 😲😤😰
answer is lebron
he is just that good on passing and finding wide open man
Come on, it's not all LeBron. Korver is great at moving off the ball, he doesn't just stand in one spot like a lot of shooters do
He is also good at remembering the play.
After all, the coach is the man behind the screen(no pun intended).
Korver is smart as hell in off ball play
nice
2:27 that airball
Could you break down some film about Karl-Anthony Towns' defense? Or the lack thereof I guess lmao... I'd love to hear your thoughts on how he can turn it around. Thanks Coach!
I've been keeping an eye on this, maybe a video about it.
Youre so cool bro.
I remember the 2000s era where Korver wasn't as valuable and tbh straight shooters weren't as valuable as they all are now in todays game. I was so happy for Korver when he made his first all-star appearance, that season he was really deserving.
Hey, what software do you use to cut film?
Videopad video editor
I'm 9 but if I watch more videos like this I can drop out of school at 10 and be a basketball coach by the time I'm 11.
8:32 That is a crap load of moving screens isn't it?
lfcnbosceltics lol facts. It's as bad as gsw
Stay woke
kkd
Cavaliers Exposed On My Channel You can't expose anybody because you don't know how to make videos bum nigga
But it's the NBA, offensive fouls do not exist.
God, I wish the thunder would run plays like this every once in a while. They just play iso ball and don't get whole team involved on offense
K.Korver future HOF
That's a tough call. But I think he may get in.
Pros:
Great movement without the ball.
Elite catch and shoot threat
A+ career 3pt %
Cons:
Perimeter Defense
Less than 10pts per game career average
Only 1 All-Star appearance
"Give Coach T Lue a credit for LBJ post game while 3 shooter screening each other on top" - r u sure this not LBJ's idea?
Jean-Patrice Paluku nobody on the warriors knows how to post up so that's a lie
Hennything is possible Stephen CurGoat is the best post player in the league I don't know what you're saying smfh
I want him to be a contender in 3 point shootout next year... korver the sniper....
basically, that's how gsw use klay thompson
Wait aren't a lot of theses screens moving screens?
i dont know where you got that statline from or what these 15.3 points are supposed to stand for but if you team starts to make 15 points MORE per posession with Kyle Korver on the court i would ask how their buckets suddenly became worth more points
Kyle Korver!!!
BOS vs GSW review pleaseeeeeeeeee
Wowowowowoowowowoww
6:32
Giannis: KYLE DONT LEAVE MEEEE
Kyle: lmao fuck off
Cleveland doesn't believe in Kyle Korver 😎😎😎😎, that's why he doesn't get the playing time of J.R. Smith.
Shooting decline & injuries forced Atlanta Hawks to give up on Kyle Korver.
Doesn't believe? haha what game are u watching? hmnn since game 1 of this season Kyle Korver is playing all minutes of the 4th quarter.. He is must player of the 4th quarter that they won't replace him cause they believe in him.. T_T
DeAndre Page no that s not true you're wrong
Roody Castel About the injuries playing a part to Atlanta Hawks giving up on Korver ?????
Post-game Interview after the NBA Finals, where Korver said he felt like a CORNER SHOOTER only off the bench in limited play ????
DeAndre Page Thats not having faith in Korver. They weren't just executing plays for him simply because their main focuses were to get LBJ, Kyrie, and Love to get hot.
Dude u would be a great film director for a team👌🏻👌🏻
No lie tho
Lebron used Early Offense Double-Staggered Screens with the Lakers last year and that needs to continue. 😀😀😀
Should be BOTH BIGS as screeners.
The new twist is Anthony Davis to Pindown Screen, then pop outside for the 3-pointer.
i never thought NBA as this complex
Jason terry being the real vet eh.
Fuck I always thought basketball was kind of a random motion sport but damn there is so much strategy going on
5:45 this play omg they use it before gsw use the play for jpoole and steph
The problem with the Cavs and what proves there is no plan in their game is that in all their plays it is clear they are always being doubled or tripled in defence and they never see the open teammate to pass the ball to. The offence vs Houston where Jeff Green is a classic example.
Love, Wade, Rose, everyone even Lebron sometimes never try to find the open teammate and that makes them tired throughout the game because they are jus trying too hard vs 2 or 3 opponents.
