That million miles doesn’t just mean you got a good truck, it means that the owner took the time and put forth the effort to keep it running. Scheduled maintenance with weekly and daily checks. Knowing your truck helps a lot.
There's something about those Toyota engineers. The build quality is absolutely incredible on these trucks. Who cares about gadgets and an extra 2mpg. Tundra for life.
Really? The axles on the Tundra are notorious for a high rate of rear diff failures. The front diff is only marginally better. The number of 2nd/3rd gen Tundras with transmission issues is mediocre considering how few are made each year. The 3UR-FE powered Tundra gets 3 to 5 mpg worse than the most popular brands of full-size trucks. That's thousands of extra gallons of fuel simply because Toyota is too cheap to do anything to improve the fuel economy of the Tundra. Are you familiar with a guy by the name of NoQDRTundra? He owned a 2nd gen Tundra and in the first 60k miles owning that brand new Tundra, he was in the dealership several times due to a major lack of quality, durability, and reliability. Anybody that has visited TundraTalk and looked at the kinds of issues that the typical 2nd or 3rd gen Tundra has would be *very* unimpressed with Tundra quality. Especially considering Ford, GM, and Ram sell several times more fullsize trucks than Toyota sells Tundras. People look at domestics in a negative light, but when you take into consideration that those manufacturers sell several times more trucks, the issue rate with those trucks is right in line with what Toyota Tundra owners will experience. Toyota quality these days is very overrated. Look no further than the 3rd gen Tacoma, Consumer Reports "least reliable midsize truck" for 3 years in a row.
@@hochhaul rear diff failures??? not a thing in toyota land my friend. transmission issues, def not a thing ! where do you get your info, lol. i'm on tundra talk all the time so don't go there.
that would be EVERY truck they sold, that isn't a very good business model... they should give them a free service at the million mile mark or something...
Why would they do that you fucking idiot? They just gave you a vehicle that lasted over a million miles. Owners that hit a million should thank them by staying brand loyal and purchasing their own new trucks.
I've got 376K miles on my 1997 4Runner. Aside from the alternator and starter being replaced. If I remember correctly the alternator gave out at about 240K and the starter went out at about 260K miles. This has been the most reliable vehicle I've ever own. I had the original clutch replaced last year when I decided to take a vacation by driving to Las Vegas and then up to Colorado and up to Yellowstone. The original clutch could have gone further but I didn't want to ruin the vacation by needing a clutch replacement while out on the road. The original clutch had about 355K miles on it. The original rear drum brakes lasted to 310K miles. I'm just shaking my head in amazement as to how long those parts had lasted.
When I was young my dad had a Tacoma. He worked for FedEx and used his truck for special deliveries. They I was 15 his truck had 600k miles. That made me get a Toyota for my first car
I dearly wish I had bought a Camry or something like that as my first car. Who knows, I may still be driving it. I know it would have saved my many many headaches.
Yes! My 2000 Lexus LS 400 just crossed 200,000 miles, and it's in mint condition! Rust-free, lived it's entire life in California. The engine has just "broken in" :-) It's going to my grave with me!
@@747-pilot those are amazing cars.. almost right out of the gate they were a hit with a timeless style that my god doesnt look that bad even today. inside they still look good...
I have an '05 tundra with the same motor. Mine only has 213.000 mi. I'll run it till it quits. Turn over, give it CPR and run it some more. Awesome trucks.
Great news. I am a true Toyota enthusiast!! People always ask me, “Why do you buy Toyota trucks?” I tell them, regular maintenance, and the Million mile Tundra! Now I have to say, regular maintenance, and the “2” million mile Tundras! Thanks for spreading the word Tim!
@@TheShowtime85 lol yea actually. Toyota reliability is a joke these days. Trash 8 speeds with converter failures. Weak and howling 3rd gen Tacoma rear diffs made in Thailand. The new powertrain in the Tundra has only been used in recent low volume Lexus applications. Toyota took years to only partially address powertrain issues with the 3rd gen Tacoma. The big hype around the 2nd gen Tundra were a couple high mileage Trucks that both used an older, simpler engine design, not the 5.7, which is an engine that frequently had oil leaking from the cam towers and has had more low-mileage rear main seal leaks than any other half-ton sold in the last 20 years. The Tundra 6-speed had multiple years where issues were frequent. Even the Tundra's rear axle is only "ok" at best. Guys talk up the ring gear diameter while not realizing that in order to get the axle ratio that Toyota needed (to take the load off the transmission that couldn't handle a taller axle ratio) they had to make the ring gear pretty thin for the task. Amazing how many of them develop premature pinion bearing failures or center pins that drop out of place because the carrier was too soft too.
@Kyle Magnuson do you work at a lube shop or do you actually believe that when they are trying to upsell you on more services than your oil change? Engine flushes are not a good idea, Not a single car manufacturer out there recommends doing an engine flush, especially on older vehicles.
@Kyle Magnuson you never want to flush a transmission though if you weren't flushing it on a regular basis according to the booklet in mileage because you will ruin it you will ruin that transmissionif you already have a ton of miles on the transmission and then wasn't getting flushed never flush it if you get to it in the first hundred thousand miles and keep on continuous do it then you'll be all right and even then it's kind of risky at a hundred thousand miles it really should be done it's according to whatever the booklet says.
Love my 2000 4x4 only 195xxx assembled 20 years ago.. I worked at a dealer when they came out and I absolutely fell in love with Toyota V8's. Maintenance is the key!
I just bought my buddy's minty 2012 GX with 140k miles on it. This SUV is barely broken in and runs so silky smooth. Im impressed you have 653k miles on yours! Any maintenance tips you can offer me to get my rig to 300k miles?
Hey Noypi54494, i do oil change every 10k miles, transmission drain and fill every 50k miles. I use seafoam in the engine and fuel tank twice a year for cleaning. I replace the the timing belt and water pump 3 times now along with other maintenance such as crank shaft, pulley belt, etc, the radiator and surrounding hoses once, front/rear differential gear oil 4 times. I use it for long haul commute, camping every month, towing, and drive up and down Seattle to Bay Area twice a year for family visit. Few road trip to la, Vegas, Utah and Arizona . Got it in 09 with only 18k. The best comfortable car I ever owned. Plan to keep it until 1 million too. Your gx460 will too run looong time. Great for off road too
Right Lane Hog, I have alway used with AMSOIL Signature Synthetic 5w-30 for last 4 years. Good for 20k miles it says, but I change it out 10-12k miles. Before that I used mobile 1 extended performance and changed it every 6-7k miles.
That's awesome! Looks like he has gotten some great use out of his truck. 1 million miles is impressive but even more impressive is that he has pushed the truck way beyond it's rated capability for so many of those miles! I would say that truck is for sure overbuilt! Great story Tim!
Brandon Toyota is definitely over built look at the size of axles compared to American trucks and also American dot standards rate the truck for less then it can handle if you used the same truck South American countries the weight ratings almost double because they don't have the same laws
Yep, so sorry. My last truck was an 2009 F150 - 3 wheel barrings in the front wheels, pinion barring kit for the differential, starter, and a battery .. can't remember the other stuff. Before that, a Durango, transmission went out at 80k. I now own a 2018 Tundra SR with the 4.6 and love it.
I have a 2004 4runner with a 203k miles that has the same 4.7 engine... Its a full time 4wd... I couldn't ask for a better truck up here in michigan....
Hell yeah man. I have one too. Same year same everything but i have lth and a supercharger on mine. Broke the 200k mark a couple months ago. Still haven’t had to do any major engine work thankfully (knock on wood) lol
Not true, I replaced the engine in a 94 celica, had a rod hanging out the side. And recently saw a 2010 Camry with the engine all burned up in the Walmart parking lot. Was extinguished by the fire department.
@@beezertwelvewashingbeard8703 Sure I don't mean literally all Toyota engines ever made. User negligence and defects is one thing, but statistically most Toyota engines that are maintained at least to the manufacturers spec have a reputation to run up until they need a rebuild from normal use. Toyota's production line operates differently than most others manufacturers, where halting production to ensure things are done right is encouraged.
Even though I'm a Dodge Ram guy you can't go wrong with a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma! I'm going to get me a '07\'08 Tundra as soon as I'm able to! Time for me to make the switch!
I bought a used 07 Limited with the 5.7L. Awesome truck but they ride veryyyyyy rough. I've owned Fords Dodges and Chevys. This truck has the roughest ride of them all. Still, I'll take the reliability all day. I heard they fixed the ride on the later models
Tundra has proved to Toyota that we just want a reliable v8 pickup to do jobs that our daily lives or our jobs require. And they are built in San Antonio TX, very cool.
Mito Marquez exactly, people tried to bag on Tundra when it came out saying Japanese don’t know trucks yet here we are trial after successful trial with Tundras being made IN America BY Americans while Chevy and Ford has out of country plants.
@@TheGheseExperience Nice try. Fords have been made in the US for a lot longer than any Toyoter has been. And when you go to buy parts for that Turdra, they'll also say Made in China or Hecho en Mexico as well.
King Daniel well I definitely agree that fords have been made here for longer way wayyyy longer and you see the parts made in China and Mexico but I was referring to the assembly, it’s assembled in Texas, and so is the Camry, I’m no hater I just wish Ford would move those jobs to the US since it’s a US manufacturer
Wow! i was thinking of selling my '07 Tundra 4.7 v8 with only 43,000 miles. Now I know she's a keeper! Thank you so much for sharing! You have done me a great service!
Moua’s Outdoors yes that's the one I want. I'm explaining to my wife that if we just have to go into another car payment it has to be a Toyota. I've been through Ford's like underwear. I love Ford's but I hate them at the same time. Every single Ford I've ever owed has had electrical Gremlins.
Air Max Jealous huh? Tundra for life. This video clearly showed Toyota is the best in the world. Keep on whining with whatever you got. You can never go wrong with a Tundra. I’m gay because I’m happy with my Tundra. While you’re jealous out of ur mind.
Antonio Martin Go to a dealer n u will see it out there. It’s a good choice. If you want a front bench seat for an extra passenger, this is the only one that has it. Top trims don’t carry it. Overall, they run on same motor but different trims n price. But I still think the one I had is the best.
I have a Tundra 5.7 has 190,000 miles drives like it s brand new still. Love my Tundra truck,at 72 years old it will be my last truck year is the 2014 double cap limited edition leather seats, interior still looks brand new, Love the heated seats still working great. I put the cow bumper on it and did the light package underneath, cool at night grands kids love it. Just a pleasure to drive, gave the old 2002 Silverado Chevy LS 5.3 to my older grandson who started college last year, had over 200,000 miles and still going strong! Brought a Nissan Titan 2017 new paid it off and sold to my sister , love the Tundra more better!
My 2007 Tundra has had a lot of tough miles on it in all kinds of conditions. Still running strong only slight rust on the rear wheel wells otherwise pretty much flawless. I’ve made the comment to my friends about their 1/2 ton Fords and Chevys that the Tundra is built twice as well. As the years go by and I see all the issues they have I’m not sure I’m giving the Tundra enough credit.
I Had Chevy trucks for over 35 years. Never a major engine or transmission problem but always something else leaving me stranded. Starter, radiator, alternator, brake failure, computer failure, A/C, electrical issues. Finally I said enough is enough. I’m looking forward to many years and miles of trouble free dependability from my 2017 SR5 5.7 Tundra, which I bought new like many if my Chevys
Maybe you should go take a look at the kinds of problems other 2007+ Tundra owners have issues with. The number of axle issues, transmission issues, electrical issues, etc are shockingly high for how poorly the Tundra sells. How is it that the Tundra sells so poorly yet has such a comparitively high rate of issues?
You'll be doing plenty of starter/water pump/power steering replacements on the Tundra if you keep it. The starters are a very common one and having done one, it's a major PITA.
hochhaul your statement is false. Toyota has sold every Tundra they’ve manufactured. They only produce approx 110,000 per year, (recession years fewer), because that’s all they have the capacity to build. Ford frequently over produces models that never sell. The only number that matters is 100% sold out, not how many.
My dad and I have always had Toyota 4x4s. My new to me 2000 tacoma has 167k on it and that's the lowest vehicle we have. The 2013 fj has 178k, the 1999 4 runner has 230k and the 85 land cruiser has 248k. They are reliable trucks without a doubt.
My 2013 Crewmax is 225K. I dont drive as much as I used to but I hope it will last as long as it can be. I just instaledl all new Bilstein 5100. It runs great. need to change spark plugs soon. MPG is only 15 on highway

With a car culture of needing to buy or lease a new car every few years, it is awesome to see people hold on to and maintain a vehicle for so long. I've always had brand new German cars, until I picked up an 04 Honda Accord with 170k. 3 months later it has 181k and it drives awesome. I loved my BMWs and GTI's but at 100k the repairs were insane. My last BMW goes back next month and I can no longer justify a $500/month car payment.
@@krayzonik Don't get BS'd by the dealers. Look at the total cost of the vehicle not what your monthly will be. You'll end up with a 80k Tundra after 8 years if you do that.
@Brian Anxieton Some times this is due to the Rusting of the undercarriage. But I agree that people tend to dispose of vehicles far before their obsolescence.
I just bought my first used truck, 16 Tundra w/ 33k Miles. I sold that POS Chevy, which I bought new, and as soon as I hit the 100k mark the damn thing became a money pit. And yes I did reg maintenance.

Rockdaground Yes the 5.7 is incredible engine but the smaller v8 is vastly underrated. It’s sad people overlook these trucks because you will get your money’s worth with way less problems .
I haven't heard of any 5.7's lasting a million miles, not that they may not exist, but seems the 4.7's are the only ones that make it LOL. My 05 Tundra with the 4.7L V8 only has 146k on it so I've got a few miles to go yet HAHA!!!!
I see the 5.7 s with 300,000 miles often. That’s still a big difference from 1,000,000. Sequoia should be included because they have the same 5.7 engine and tranny. I also see those with over 200,000 miles very often.
Toyota is all around reliability period!!! Yeah maybe Ford and Ram and GarbageMotors have fancy looks and some unnecessary features but when you need a truck that keeps you rolling, Toyota is what to buy :) Proud owner of a 2018 Tundra :)
Mom recently had to get rid of her Chevy '94 K5 Blazer with about 380,000 miles on it, which sounds impressive... until you find out the first 2 owners were literally aircraft mechanics and in the first 200,000 miles they replaced the transmission, overhauled the engine, and put in numerous hours replacing components left and right. Mom replaced the entire brake system and the steering assembly, after which the wheel still wanders all over. I helped replace the front end links. At time of death it idled rough, the muffler was dangling loose, it stank like rich fuel when it ran, the heat and AC didn't work, and finally the rear differential seized up. Having taken several GMs from the 80s thru the 2000s all the way to their untimely end... just say no. Its a company that survives on government bail outs and dealer repair fees.

@@karlschauff7989 lol no
@@TheShowtime85 lol yea actually.
Both 4.7 v8s on the million mile tundras. Toyota should offer it in the Tacoma
Oh God would that be nice
They needed to be competitive in the towing catergory, thus the v-8. Mine 10,200lbs towing, rating
There are more issues with the 5.7 than the 4.7. The 4.7 is a much better design. Much like the 4.0 V6 is a more reliable engine than the 3.5.
I fully intend on putting the 4.7l v8 in my 3rd gen tacoma when I get to 120k miles (currently at 52k).

I've seen under 60k those engine has burnt valve and engine misfire like crazy, also rear coolant pipe behind engine are plastic and leaks coolant, high fuel pressure pump and vacuum pump goes out a lot on those engine too. The old Tacoma 4.0 L is the way to go.
jake tim wonder if they getting pressure from the auto industry to start making less reliable engines or maybe just it’s just cause it’s a new generation motor give it some time to work out the issues
New toyotas are junk. Get old ones pre 06 while u still can $$$$$
I have my 2001 Toyota solara convertible and it has now 225,000 miles and it runs perfectly so far and hopefully I will keep it till one of us goes first lol
I'm needing a truck & the Tundra is high on my list. Now, I'm certain this is what I want. Thank you for sharing!
My 4.6L V8 2012 Tundra Crewmax is sitting happily at only 100,800 miles.
Only 900,000 more to go. 👍
Never ever getting rid of my Tundra.
Im a ford guy, nothing wrong with buying a ford id say... but if you can afford the initial cost... buy a toyota if you want a vehicle to last forever.
Sadly ford stopped making million mile trucks after 2003. Look up all the F150 million mile trucks that had with the 5.4l 2v
@@MAGWolf long live the 2v! Bullet proof motor. All ford products I've had, I have never had issues with it spitting spark plugs, and my work/daily 98 f250 with the 2v seems like it will keep on pushing having sat in the forest for 10 years.
I bought my Tacoma brand new in 2007. 12 years later, it's just now showing signs of aging.
Got a 07 f150 4.6 2v with 200k miles no problems yet
@@hch1993 that's cos the 4.6 is a sturdy boi
I absolutely love my 03 Toyota taco. That 4.7 really is one of Toyota's best motors.
But that would not have the 4.7 engine
I used to buy American garbage but after owning a trd 4runner and wife with the RAV4 I’ll never buy American cooperate junk again
Upset Patient look into certain Duramax engines and Cummins, might change your mind. Also looked at super old jeeps 4.2 liter inline 6. All reliable
@AngelTheFiend I can confirm that my trucks chassis is falling around my Cummins the engine is running fine but the rest is rusting
Hey the Tundras are made in Texas in the USA !
@TH3BL0CKH34D acually the 5.3 are pretty solid dads 05 Tahoe with the 5.3 has never had issue
@@liamflan9553 "Old" is the keyword
I just bought my 1st Tundra 2018 with 25k miles on it. Looking forward to someday reaching that 1 million miles.
I was convinced on toyota my 1st 4 runner I have had 2 no issues also have a 99 toyota camry that has had zero issues still have it I'm now in the 5.7 v8 Toyota tundra 4x4 platinum my in laws have a Tacoma they are truely one of the most reliable hands down this was a great video
Someone else can have the title 'Build F'd Tough '
Toyota Made Reliable!
Testament of good reliable/quality product.
The way he drives it shows why it lasted up to a million miles. Safe and Slow! I should adopt that.... 😲
Also I'm sure that 98%of his miles are HW.
Not sure if you can adapt to that.
the hardest wear on an engine occurs when it starts up after sitting. driving it does little unless you hammer the throttle like a moron. Then you're wearing your mounts out and being a goof.
@@blinkshadown That's true, that probably why semi trucks go up to a million miles too because they are always on the HW.
445,000 on my ‘06. 4.7...Regular maintenance, timing belts, serpentine, etc. Runs perfect. Never towed or broke down ....Runs Smooth. Likes to go 80!...Drive from So Cal to Houston and Atlanta regularly..easy nice ride! I’d go anywhere with this Truck. Original transmission, never changed the fluids, ever. Shifts fine....does love gas, though! Haha . Love this Truck!!
I'm on my second tundra, first one drove to 180,xxx miles with zero issues, dealer talked me into trading it in back in 2016 and have it up to 150,xxx with just an alternator. Really can't complain.
I have a 2009 Tacoma crew cab, 4x4 Sport TRD. Paid $27,500 brand new. 103k miles currently. Have gotten 5 "warranty extensions" from the factory which is another name for a voluntary recall if you have noticed the problem described in the recall. Rust will kill this truck before anything despite my efforts to protect it the best I can in Wisconsin.
Do they have Krown Rustproofing in Wisconsin? My 2005 Canadian 'Toyota' has virtually no rust as it gets a Krown application every year. BTW I exclusively use Wisconsin - made Amsoil for all lubrication.
We have a 2007 Prius in the family with 250k+ miles still on original hybrid battery and still runs strong with 45 mpg😀
that's pretty crazy... but i still suggest replacing battery soon
Mauricio I have preparation ready once the battery goes to replace the hybrid battery completely as one whole unit but hoping I can replace by individual modules and get a few 10k of miles more 🤗
I hope my GX470 reaches million miles also. #team47
It will! Hoping my 05 Land Cruiser will too! I’ve got 272,000 only lmao. #team47
You just can’t beat Toyota!! I am about 400000 on my 3.4 v-6 and still running strong 16 years and counting
I'm buying one this week with 110k miles and I cant wait!
I have 2008 tundra v6 with 400k miles
@Atlantic Pacific lol
Is it the 3.4l V6? I’ve heard those are very good engines as well in terms of reliability. I’m not sure about the 4.0l V6
i got a 2012 4.0 v6
@ya boi cj it’s a 4.0 v6
Whats the point in a v6 in the tundra? Whats the difference between it and the Tacoma?
My 06 Chevrolet Silverado has been transformed from metal scarp to a new Chevy for the second time probably
My 08 has 340k miles original everything
@@godzilar35 same got 400k on my 08 and still runs fine biggest issue that I've had is the starter it needs a new one like every year
godzilar35 You don’t have a GM auto with 340k without a rebuild.
Mel Rose Heard of some with automatics hitting one mil, especially the HD’s.
Toyota tundra and Toyota and lexus vehicles are awesome vehicles. I am a Toyota guy too. I had datsun but switched to Lexus ls430. 299,500 miles on the Lexus ls430 original alternator and starter. Just regular maintenance to the Lexus.
My 2003 Toyota Tundra has 347k original almost everything . I own it for 6 years bought it with 204k miles I replaced the fuel pump and alternator that’s all . Pass Utah emissions and I just went to Oregon and come back not problems at all . Runs amazing. I bought a 2009 Chevy Silverado 4.3 was nothing but problems last year. Broke on me 3 times on the freeway. My tundra never ever ever let me stranded. Toyota are expensive because are just an amazing outstanding quality
