Phil Collins is the most maligned ultra successful musician ever. Just watch his No Ticket Required show from circa 1986 and tell me he wasn't a GREAT live performer and gave it all on stage. Phil is ultra talented and deserves his success. It's such a shame he now has serious physical problems and his voice is shot. Phil pre-1995 is just sublime.
I saw him live that tour and it was to this day one of the best concerts I have been to. As I said in my comment above, his vocal range is gone due to sitting when he sings due to his health.
I wholeheartedly agree. I’ve seen Phil live 3 times (1990, 2004 & 2007) and he never failed to put on a great show. He also always looked like he was enjoying himself which I can’t say the same for everyone else I’ve seen. Would luv to see him one more time before he truly retires. And if I may nitpick, his “No Ticket Required” video was actually filmed in 1985. I remember seeing it on Laserdisc for years but could never afford one. Finally found one on VHS & I’ve watched it so many times, i’ve lost count.
Isn't he maligned because he was seemingly on every song in the 80s? And if you have 10 years of say eating Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream then you'll get sick of it y'know?
My late mother loved "That's All" and got me into Genesis as I was a 9-year old getting to love Top 40 radio. To get my mom to love a then-current pop hit was quite an accomplishment. From then in 1984 and on, I became a Genesis disciple.
YES PLEASE. Tony had such a vision of the band dividing functions and creating polyphony and wide arrangements. He does not shred like emmerson or wakeman but he gives emotion to his touch and chord inversions. Through the years playin tony's music in my cover band i've learned a lot with him, and moved to a restricted bossa nova player to a more flexible one.
@@rk41gator it's hard to say this but yes tony is in fact the foundation but all of them contributed to the final thing. Steve peter and mike are a huge part of the sound as well! the whole thing about pedal notes and triads changing over it is pure tony idea. The major 7 9 chord without third is tony's signature in fact.
Tony is the MOST underrated, discounted, and uncelebrated keyboardist, musician, and composer. His keyboard solos of the '70s ARE the songs; they're the most hummable (you can hum every solo he did), moving, and memorable passages of 70's era Genesis. The songs built up to those remarkable melodies and just stuck with you for weeks/years. Kieth Emerson struck me in the same way, however, with MUCH more complexity. Kieth got away with it; Tony never had to wow you as Kieth did. 70's Genesis made their complex music sound so simple. 80's almost made the simple sound so complex.
Genesis ruled in the 80’s. At one time Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel & Mike & the Mechanics (Mike Rutherford) all had songs in the Top Ten - at the same time!!!!! Talk about dominance! I think it was Invisible Touch, Sledgehammer, Sussudio & All I Need is a Miracle!
@@brunoprimas1483 All in 1986, Mike released All I Need is a Miracle as single in 1986 after the album that released in 1985, very interesting. Also, the 5 top 5 singles in 1 album that Genesis did is just too good, only 11 albums fit that category! And the 4 full Wembley Stadium nights that could've been 5.
How can I pick only 5 Genesis songs, I love their music so much. In no particular order: Throwing it All Away, Duchess, Man on the Corner, No Reply at All, Home by the Sea/Second Home by the Sea
My best friend back in the day was a massive genesis fan he used to come with my to heavy rock concerts due to my father being able to get tickets so I had my father get genesis tickets and took my friend he was exceptionally happy with this and enjoyed the concert but then so did I, live music is always special.
Great job Professor! 1-Behind The Lines, 2-Way of The World, 3-Man On The Corner, 4-No Reply At All 5-Domino 1&2. Graduated HS in '85, I would listen to Genesis an Phil Collins with my Sweetheart (LB) endlessly. We thought we would get married some day but life took us in separate directions. I ran into her a few times and we had a good time reminiscing about those times, we both reach for Genesis or Phil Collins when things get tough. Professor Thanks for bringing up those great memories.
I was born in '81 and knew of many of these songs, however; I first learned of Genesis from the Disturbed remake of Land of Confusion in 2006, I felt the lyrics so strongly that I did research, learned of Genesis, then learned of Phil Colins. I have since watched and read as much about the man as I could. I idolize Phil Colins and the great lengths he went to in the 80's to balance between his solo career and touring with Genesis at the same time, at times going many many hours with no sleep between shows flying from Europe to the USA. The professor hit the nail on the head about Land of Confusion, a song that was made in the 80's just as much relevant today as it was then. It's a shame that in the early 90's Phil felt that the music industry was turning on him which made him really start to step back and away a lot. I have always hoped to meet Phil Colins at least once in my life, however his last tour with Genesis did not come close to Maine and I was not able to go. Both Genesis and Phil Colins as a solo artist will always be on my playlists until the day I die.
My 5 in no particular order. "Man On The Corner", "That's All", "In Too Deep", "Misunderstanding", and "Land Of Confusion". So many dang hits from those in and formerly in Genesis!
I love all of the 80s genesis LPs so to difficult to pick just 5 songs. I saw them live at Wembley stadium in the late 80s. 100000 fans all singing the songs and watching the show into the night. Phil Collins even pinched Freddie mercury s "dey o" routine at the beginning of throwing it all away - the recording of the early 90s live gigs has a version on the "shorts" cd. It was unforgettable the energy of a 100000 people screaming simultaneously. Goosebumps.
I'm not sure of the order but those songs are definitely on the list for me. For a top ten maybe adding "Duchess", "Me and Sarah Jane", "Just a Job to Do", "Throwing it All Away" and "It's Gonna Get Better". Truthfully I never really liked the song "Invisible Touch".
I saw them 3 times in the 90s. Love this band from nursery crime to We can't dance . Throwing it all away always gives me goose bumps and to see them play it live just blew me away !!!!!
5. That's All 4. Tonight Tonight.... 3. Man On The Corner 2. Turn It On Again 1. ABACAB (What a killer, yet grossly underappreciated Jam session. All 3 of them just sizzle.
Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your *. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite. - Patrick Bateman's Fiver
I saw Genesis in concert in 1977 and then about 12 more times thru the early 80's. i always remember the excitement of those shows and the extreme talent that this band was blessed with.
Genesis was my dad favorite band growing up. Took me to see them in 2007 on their reunion tour which was also my very first concert. Cause of that they’ve been my favorite band ever since. Kind of a cool bond to share with my father whose 40 years my elder.
My Genesis '80's 5ver 5. Illegal Alien 4. Mama 3. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight 2. Turn it on 1. Abacab Abacab for me is the best riff of any Genesis song, the guitar, keyboards and drums sounds so powerful that rocks you.
Without a doubt, Phil Collins ruled the airwaves of the 1980's, both solo and with Genesis. For me, these are my Top 5 favorite Genesis songs from the 1980's. 5. No Reply At All 4. Keep It Dark (I love the clash of a straight beat while the guitar riff is played backwards) 3. Land Of Confusion 2. Just A Job To Do (A deep album cut from 83's 'Genesis' that still blows my mind how good it is, especially the lyrics) 1. Mama
Tony is no unsung hero for me and anyone that can hear music know's Banks was behind the greatest of this band as much as anyone. Great show and more of these please!
I loved Genesis. I love Phil Collins. They made so many great songs that I can’t pick just five. 🎤 But, without a doubt, my favorite Phil Collins song of all time is In the Air.
Music was always a background thing for me. The little transistor radio hanging from a nearby tree playing easy listening stuff. I never bought a single let alone an album. Then, in 1980 I started hearing "Turn It On Again" and "Misunderstanding" and knew I liked them. 1981 was a breakout year for me. I was 16, I got my driver's licence, both Phil and Genesis were on the radio, and I was hooked permanently. My favourite song is "Follow You Follow me". Was trying to get to Genesis in the U.K. but Covid got in the way. Just learned they are coming to Toronto and I'm gearing up for the only rock concert I have ever wanted to attend.
Still love and like Genesis...and all their members....solo projects ...cariers...songs Still have so many CDs /few LP cowers keep because of nice pictures.../ And here ...and there...have long nights, listening...enyojing in wine, with all those atmosphere...remembering the youth...fealing nice, allive....not allone😊🎶⛱🌞
My favorite Phil Collins song is We Said Hello, Goodbye. Beautiful song. Well it really don't matter much where you are 'Cause home is in your heart It's a feeling that you wake with one day Some people keep running all their life And still find they haven't gone too far They don't see it's the feeling inside The feeling inside oh
I fell in love with Genesis when Invisible Touch came out in 1986 when I was a freshman in HS. My friend had their previous albums, Genesis, Duke, etc. and that was it for me: love them. My 5ers from the 80s 5. Turn it on again 4. Home by the sea/Second home by the sea 3. Tonight, tonight, tonight 2. Throwing it all away (Yes, my broken heart from HS) 1. Mama
Honestly, you reminded me why I love Phil and Genesis so much! Thank you for the production and the respect you gave to the both of them that sometimes they just don't get.
Definitely something special about his voice. There's a lot of emotion packed in. To my ears, it is a perfect combination "pissed off" (not angry) and determined to do something about it. Very alpha male.
My first Genesis song was 'Turn It On Again' and remains in my top5. The rest would be: Land Of Confusion Mama Silver Rainbow Land by the Sea (Parts 1 & 2) Honorable mention would be 'Illegal Alien.' I don't think it would fly today, but at the time the tongue-in-cheek and especially the video were hysterical. As an American having lived in England from 80-82, I can assure you that the understanding of Latin Americans over there was minimal.
One of the greatest rock bands of all time. I cannot think of another band that within the same album were able to create so much variation in their style and yet still achieve such huge success. At no point in time did you feel like they were “sticking to the formula” or trying to maintain a specific sound. They had an amazing ability to craft songs that left you wanting more. Every album is timeless and maintains value today.
A little off topic but ... Ever since I saw Sing Street I can't help but think of this line any time I hear Genesis or Phil Collins "No self respecting woman could ever fall in love with a man who listens to Phil Collins" Still ...he provided many songs to the soundtrack of my youth. Driving around for hours into the night listening to In the Air Tonight -good times.
I think the vocal performance on That’s All is brilliant. The way Phil slides between annoyance, frustration, anger and maybe a little regret, it’s just so excellent. Most artists would give us one or two emotions. Phil understands nuance.
My Genesis fiver- 5.Misunderstanding 4.Abacab 3.Turn it On Again 2. No Reply At All 1.Throwing it All Away Top deep tracks- Man on the Corner + Illegal Alien and Taking it All Too Hard. So many great songs. This is a hard list to compile.
Land of confusion I listened to it the other day since its been awhile since I've heard it and while listening to it I kept thinking about today in 2020 "too many people making too many problems, theres not much love to go around, cant you see this is the land of confusion". Great song
That trio of albums in the early albums: Duke - Abacab - Genesis - - - those three albums released in a 4 year period rank among the best trilogies of albums any band has ever released. They are all great records and I listen to them all the time to this day. I can't listen to Invisible Touch anymore - it was so over-played, but those first three albums from the 80s are amazing!
1981's "Abacab" tile track, and 1983's Genesis Track 01 "Mama" always got me. Mama was reminder (to me anyway) of just how close the women we love can push us to insanity, and make you feel crazy in love at the same time. Thanks for the memories!
Totally agree with you about the way Phil Collins sings, his soul and his depth of feeling. His arrangement of Irving Berlin's 'Always' brings a new tenderness to this iconic ballad. The man is easily the best of his generation.
Thanks for posting this Professor Of Rock, a great tribute to my favourite band of all time !!. My No 1 Genesis song simply has to be 'Home by the Sea' (parts 1& 2 - 'Second home by the sea'), pure music perfection !!!
I remember buying the Invisible Touch cassette which came in a long box. I wish I would have saved that box. We will never see them again. My 80’s Genesis 5er’ Tonight, Tonight, Tonight - I remember it being featured in a Michelob commercial , we didn't have MTV at the time so it was one of the rare times I got to see them on TV Mama - First song played at my first Genesis concert on the Invisible Touch tour. Domino Part One “In the Glow of the Night” - Domino should have been 2 separate songs in my opinion. Invisible Touch - Played the song to death. It was fun to see them poking fun at themselves in the video. In Too Deep - Classic Phil Collins break up song. Thanks for keeping one of the great groups of the 80’s alive.
So much Talent in Genesis was unreal ! Phil, Peter, And Mike was one hell of a band ! Great job PROFESSOR! Remember! I feel it coming in the air tonigh! Living Years ! In your Eyes! 80s
I remember when games at the old Kingdome where the Seattle Mariners played, they would play Throwing It All Away if the pitcher for the Mariners lost the game. 😂🤣 SO COLD!!!
I first came to appreciate Genesis in the early 90s, mostly by the way of Phil Collins solo work. Just in the past couple of years have I fully come to understand what a legendary band Genesis truly is. Their body of work as individuals and together is immense and “impressive” doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s with the three of them together Phil, Tony & Mike, however, that all of their deep and broad talents can shine the most. I was fortunate to catch the time-limited broadcast on RUclips of their last big concert in Rome in 2007. This was the full concert and it was Fab-U-lous! I have since watched quite a few docs about the band and the three core members and got so wrapped up and dazzled by their great talents. Of course, their other regular (now longtime) drummer and guitarist ( can’t recall their names) are top-notch! Enjoyed your history & commentary of Genesis...thanks!
Without a doubt, Phil Collins WAS the 80's. Every single year he charted high with some song. Solo, Genesis, Phillip Bailey... My 5er: 5. Misunderstanding - Some people lash out at a cheating partner. Some write this classic. 4. ABACAB - The intro just melts your face, it's that awesome!! 3. Land Of Confusion - I too loved the old Spitting Image show. Released on my birthday in 1986. What a way to celebrate becoming 13. 2. Just A Job To Do - Criminally underrated Genesis song. Overshadowed by the rest of the Genesis album. Most people have never heard it. Should have been a hit. 1. That's All - One of my top 10 songs from the 80's. That keyboard hook never gets old. As a 10 year old, I loved the opposites in the lyrics. Not knowing the meaning until much later. Honorable mention: Paperlate - Those Earth, Wind & Fire horns are massive.
Phil has an amazing powerful voice and very unique. He was considered with high regard during the 80s and most of the 90s. I don't know what happened to public opinion to make them view him with derision since. Odd. Favorite 80s songs? Um.. Mama. That's All.
Me and my then wife went to see them on the Invisible touch tour at Roundhay park in Leeds ( UK) in 1988. Shortly after, I discovered that whilst I was working nights providing for my family, she was being unfaithful with some of my friends, we split up, got back together, but what an elephant in the room, finally she asked me to leave, and I did, It still stabs me in the heart when I hear the song, but I carried on, had a lot of fun after being married, I played the game for a bit , then settled down , and now have never been as happy as I am now , with my new wife, we have been together 16 years, and been married 15 years !
Phil wrote some of the best, most raw and heartfelt breakup/heartbreak songs, and in an era where divorce rates were going up by a lot. My own parents divorced in the early 90's and Phil's songs resonated with me and trying to identify with what they might have been going through. I was 9.
Some GREAT Unsung Genesis Songs that I LOVE, are "Home by the Sea", "Taking it All to Hard" "Silver Rainbow" and "Illegal Alien" and Phil's song "Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore"are ALL SUPER GREAT Songs!
Invisible Touch the album, Paul Simon's - Graceland, and Phils solo albums were the soundtrack of my youth, as these were all my dad would play in our Crysler minivan as he drove us around our home in Toronto, Canada. Later these would also become our road trip anthems along with the Eagles and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's - American Dream album as we drove from Toronto to L.A. over a 2 month period.
bravo professor an excellent video, really enjoyed that especially as a fan of Phil Collins and Genesis, would love to hopefully see a video down the line of Mike + the Mechanics who were also a great band in their own right
The body of work Phil was doing in the 80s was absolutely amazing. Genesis album tour then a solo album tour then back to Genesis for a record tour then solo record tour. Back n forth. Just amazing energy.👍
"That's All" is the first Genesis song that I remember hearing and knowing who preformed it. It still stands out as a unique sounding song. I love the "Spitting Image" puppets used for "Land of Confusion." I use to stay up late to watch the Spitting Image tv show.

My late mother loved "That's All" and got me into Genesis as I was a 9-year old getting to love Top 40 radio. To get my mom to love a then-current pop hit was quite an accomplishment. From then in 1984 and on, I became a Genesis disciple.
Great to see Genesis being reviewed without prejudice and the greatness they deserve as masters of songwriting.
And thank you for giving Tony Banks the credit he so justly deserves. He's criminally underappreciated.
@@MrFoz1234 Tony IS the sound of Genesis. Phil is the SOUL.
How so? He’s been inducted into the R&RHOF twice (1st w/ Genesis & 2nd w/ YES)
If I'm not mistaken, Steve Hackett with GTR had a hit with, "When The Heart Rules The Mind", around the same time!
Love Phil's falsetto vocals on "It's Gonna Get Better" off their self titled Genesis album
Agree! What a great album closer!
PHIL IS A GENIUS!!!
My Genesis 80s top 5 :
1 - Abacab
2 - Turn It On Again
3 - Home By The Sea
4 - Throwing It All Away
5 - Mama
My 5 in no particular order. "Man On The Corner", "That's All", "In Too Deep", "Misunderstanding", and "Land Of Confusion". So many dang hits from those in and formerly in Genesis!
Home By The Sea is my favourite Genesis song.
My favorites of the 80's; 1. Turn It On Again, 2. Home By The Sea, 3. It's Gonna Get Better, 4. Mama, 5. Man On The Corner
Goosebumps.
Love all time frames of Genesis, but my 80's 5'er would be:
5. Dodo/Lurker
4. Silver Rainbow
3. Turn It On Again
2. Domino
1. Mama
"Turn it on again" another level.
@@disposablecynic their best 80s song in my opinion
I'm not sure of the order but those songs are definitely on the list for me. For a top ten maybe adding "Duchess", "Me and Sarah Jane", "Just a Job to Do", "Throwing it All Away" and "It's Gonna Get Better". Truthfully I never really liked the song "Invisible Touch".
Yes, I have the same top 2. They never get old. 👌
Turn it on . . . live medley is awesome all those 60 r&b covers in the middle of the song.
I love Home by the sea as well as many others. Genesis is really one of my favorite bands of all time
I saw them 3 times in the 90s. Love this band from nursery crime to We can't dance . Throwing it all away always gives me goose bumps and to see them play it live just blew me away !!!!!
Many song from the band Genesis remain timeless. Too many favorites.
5)Invisible Touch 4)Turn It On Again 3)Abacab 2)Home By the Sea/Second Home By the Sea 1)Paperlate
When it comes to Genesis music, just play the entirety of Invisible Touch. Such a great album.
Still have the lp great album
5. That's All
4. Tonight Tonight....
3. Man On The Corner
2. Turn It On Again
All this lacks is the little dance with the fire axe while wearing a clear plastic raincoat that went with the Huey Lewis monologue.
One of my all time favorite solo Phil songs is I wish It Would Rain Down
I saw Genesis in concert in 1977 and then about 12 more times thru the early 80's. i always remember the excitement of those shows and the extreme talent that this band was blessed with.
Genesis was my dad favorite band growing up. Took me to see them in 2007 on their reunion tour which was also my very first concert. Cause of that they’ve been my favorite band ever since. Kind of a cool bond to share with my father whose 40 years my elder.
My Genesis '80's 5ver
5. Illegal Alien
4. Mama
3. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight
2. Turn it on
1. Abacab
Abacab for me is the best riff of any Genesis song, the guitar, keyboards and drums sounds so powerful that rocks you.
Without a doubt, Phil Collins ruled the airwaves of the 1980's, both solo and with Genesis. For me, these are my Top 5 favorite Genesis songs from the 1980's.
5. No Reply At All
4. Keep It Dark (I love the clash of a straight beat while the guitar riff is played backwards)
3. Land Of Confusion
2. Just A Job To Do (A deep album cut from 83's 'Genesis' that still blows my mind how good it is, especially the lyrics)
1. Mama
Tony is no unsung hero for me and anyone that can hear music know's Banks was behind the greatest of this band as much as anyone. Great show and more of these please!
Loved the back and forth of group to solo and back again

I hate that these songs never get the love they deserve.
exactly. 2 of my favorites.
No Reply is a great song
Because they are not very good songs compared to thier other songs. Two of my worse songs are Who Dunnit and Ilegal Alien, shite.

The song sounds like it was inspired by the band Chicago.
I loved Genesis. I love Phil Collins. They made so many great songs that I can’t pick just five. 🎤 But, without a doubt, my favorite Phil Collins song of all time is In the Air.
5 Abacab
4 Invisible Touch
3 No Reply At All
2 Man on the Corner
1 Throwing It All Away

Throwing it all away is my favourite
1. Mama
2. Misunderstanding
3. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight
4. Home by the Sea
5. Land of Confusion
Throwing it all the way.... That riff....the keyboards....the build up!
My favorite too. That song makes my furr rise brother!
You are seriously comparing 18 and life and When the Children Cry or countless others songs you listed to Everybody Wants To Rule the World. I’m out.
Still love and like Genesis...and all their members....solo projects ...cariers...songs
Still have so many CDs /few LP cowers keep because of nice pictures.../
And here ...and there...have long nights, listening...enyojing in wine, with all those atmosphere...remembering the youth...fealing nice, allive....not allone😊🎶⛱🌞
My favorite Phil Collins song is We Said Hello, Goodbye. Beautiful song.
Well it really don't matter much where you are
'Cause home is in your heart
It's a feeling that you wake with one day
Some people keep running all their life
And still find they haven't gone too far
They don't see it's the feeling inside
The feeling inside oh
I fell in love with Genesis when Invisible Touch came out in 1986 when I was a freshman in HS. My friend had their previous albums, Genesis, Duke, etc. and that was it for me: love them.
My 5ers from the 80s
5. Turn it on again
4. Home by the sea/Second home by the sea
3. Tonight, tonight, tonight
2. Throwing it all away (Yes, my broken heart from HS)
1. Mama
Genesis is one of the greatest bands of all time! No Reply at All and Turn It On Again are extraordinary songs too...
My top 5 favorite Genesis song (Phil Collins era)
1. No Reply At All
2. Follow You, Follow Me
3. Into Deep
4. Throwing It All Away
5. Tonight, Tonight
In Too Deep
Honestly, you reminded me why I love Phil and Genesis so much!
Thank you for the production and the respect you gave to the both of them that sometimes they just don't get.
1. Turn It On Again
2. Invisible Touch
3. Home By the Sea
4. Paperlate
5. Abacab
Definitely something special about his voice. There's a lot of emotion packed in. To my ears, it is a perfect combination "pissed off" (not angry) and determined to do something about it. Very alpha male.
My first Genesis song was 'Turn It On Again' and remains in my top5. The rest would be:
Land Of Confusion
Mama
Silver Rainbow
Land by the Sea (Parts 1 & 2)
Honorable mention would be 'Illegal Alien.' I don't think it would fly today, but at the time the tongue-in-cheek and especially the video were hysterical. As an American having lived in England from 80-82, I can assure you that the understanding of Latin Americans over there was minimal.
Genesis does what no other '80s band don't
My Genesis fiver-
5.Misunderstanding
4.Abacab
3.Turn it On Again

1.Throwing it All Away
Top deep tracks- Man on the Corner + Illegal Alien and Taking it All Too Hard. So many great songs. This is a hard list to compile.
Only person on here who Ive seen giving Taking It All Too Hard its proper due
Land of confusion I listened to it the other day since its been awhile since I've heard it and while listening to it I kept thinking about today in 2020 "too many people making too many problems, theres not much love to go around, cant you see this is the land of confusion". Great song
My favorite band of all time
Tremendous trio! Here's my 5'er:
5. Follow You, Follow Me
4. Paperlate
3. Misunderstanding
2. Home By The Sea
1. Invisible Touch
Phil and Genesis were a big part of my childhood back in the 90s. Out of all the music my parents played, both stuck out. and I thank them for that.

They don't make bands like Genesis anymore. My all-time favorite band. Thanks for making this.
I remember buying the Invisible Touch cassette which came in a long box. I wish I would have saved that box. We will never see them again.
My 80’s Genesis 5er’
Tonight, Tonight, Tonight - I remember it being featured in a Michelob commercial
, we didn't have MTV at the time so it was one of the rare times I got to see them on TV
Mama - First song played at my first Genesis concert on the Invisible Touch tour.
It had to be an invisible touch- that slowly tore the pitcher apart.
I love that song
My 5er:
Honorable mention:
Paperlate - Those Earth, Wind & Fire horns are massive.
5.) Invisible Touch
4.) Home By The Sea
3.) Man Of Our Times
2.) Man On The Corner
1.) That’s All
"That's All" is one of my favorite Phil/Genesis songs of all time. It played a lot when I was 8 or 9, and I'm so glad for it.
You Might Recall, It's Gonna Get Better, Duchess, Follow You Follow Me, and Home By The Sea.
Phil has an amazing powerful voice and very unique. He was considered with high regard during the 80s and most of the 90s. I don't know what happened to public opinion to make them view him with derision since. Odd. Favorite 80s songs? Um.. Mama. That's All.
The 80s Genesis is my favorite band of all time!

I was 9.
"some of my friends"? I expect they too went out with the trash?
Some GREAT Unsung Genesis Songs that I LOVE, are "Home by the Sea", "Taking it All to Hard" "Silver Rainbow" and "Illegal Alien" and Phil's song
"Doesn't Anybody Stay Together Anymore"are ALL SUPER GREAT Songs!
Domino, Home by the sea , Dodo , Fantastic
Invisible Touch the album, Paul Simon's - Graceland, and Phils solo albums were the soundtrack of my youth, as these were all my dad would play in our Crysler minivan as he drove us around our home in Toronto, Canada. Later these would also become our road trip anthems along with the Eagles and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's - American Dream album as we drove from Toronto to L.A. over a 2 month period.
I still have Invisible Touch on vinyl. Their prog rock era fans may not like it as much but I love it.
I love all their music.
bravo professor an excellent video, really enjoyed that especially as a fan of Phil Collins and Genesis, would love to hopefully see a video down the line of Mike + the Mechanics who were also a great band in their own right
The body of work Phil was doing in the 80s was absolutely amazing.
