Going back a long time ago, as an experienced follower and somewhat new leader, I remember apologizing to a ecs follower that I didn't know many patterns and she responded that it was okay b/c I was leading them well. That is key. As a follower, I would much rather dance with a leader who is leading a few patterns well (and with good connection) rather than a lot of patterns mediocrely.
Thank you! The tree analogy is very helpful. A former teacher used the concept of mastering the basic moves and adding different entrances and exits that make them more challenging and cool. Social dancing is all about having fun and looking good, not doing 50 moves in 3 minutes.
"Followers getting bored" is the exact mental block I'm working on. Thanks for raising that issue, I tend to rush my steps or do it half-ass it because I'm afraid to 'bore' the follower with basic moves!
Oh please don’t think we get bored as followers. Don’t get me wrong there will be some that do. But as a rule we just like a good lead. So making sure you are comfy is way more important 😂
Get 10 solid moves with all the basics. Most songs you can make it through that with those. I start with basics then the moves from class that day that is a fresh way to add to your 10 go twos. I work on the moves before class and watch the videos before a social also

Everyone is different. So if you find a way that works for you thats great! The pattern tree is great!
