I am a W124 owner. I enjoy the w124 content, for me they are one of the best cars ever made. The centre armrest is almost the only thing that ever annoyed me about the design. Why didn't they change it for the RHD cars. it seems bizarre considering everything else is so well thought out.
I brought my first W124 of a bloke who had used it to tow his classic rally car for 6 years (an ex WRC Celica GT four) It was still on the original clutch when I sold it, utterly bomb proof tow cars :-) I still see it on the road now & then 10 years later
relieved to hear that car won't be getting destroyed ! i just got my own W124 300 altho mine is the later OM606 one and i can't believe how good those cars are.
The properly solution for the air filter is valve cover from 335d or 535d, then you can put bigger turbo and cold air intake with bigger air filter. I am huge fan of the M57, I have 330d with the same 184hp engine, and yes it's not a OM606, but it's worth it. In future, if you make some modification for this engine and sell it in your website, will be great. :D

I have run my OM 602 powered W201 652 miles one way to CA from Oregon and only stopped twice (once for fuel and once for restroom) and then drove back a couple days later. ‘80s Benzes are great road trip cars. as of today I get diesel for $3.09/2.24 pound/gal (US), $0.81/.59 pound/L and there are/can be vast regional/state differences in gas prices in the US. some of that is transportation costs, some is state taxes, in addition to a standard rate federal tax on gas.

Driving a OM603 long distance with those temperatures demands a set of cojones haha they are quite notorious for cracking their heads due to heat, especially the 3.5L in the w140 with bored out, even thinner cylinder walls!
towing here in the US is so much different. I tow a 25 foot camping trailer to the nascar races in a 7 hour driving circle drawn around Atlanta. up to 350 miles one way. we tow at about 70-75 miles an hour (for gas mileage). 80 if we are in a hurry. we go much faster and much farther than is typical for Europe. Hey guys hoping you can help I recently purchased a concourse w210 606 turbo diesel with 46k on the clock yesterday I drove it through a 4ft puddle and stalled it as I was in gale force winds and rain I was determined to get it restarted so I drove it home 30miles.
