This game looks really cool, I never played Dark Souls but not really sure what makes this "dark souls like". Just seems like a traditional side scroller with checkpoints but it's got a real well-made feel to it. Think I'm adding this one to my wish list
Something being "soulslike" generally is a progression thing. Particularly, it is whenever EXP (or something similar) is not instantly permanent. You usually have to reach some sort of checkpoint for the EXP you accrued since last checkpoint to become permanent. What this means is, if you die before reaching a checkpoint, you lose all that EXP you gained since last checkpoint. However, if you can make it to where you died, you can retrieve the EXP that was lost and carry on. Hope this helps
@@iv3477 That's what i thought when i heard "souls like" but check point-based games have existed looooong before dark souls, games i grew up playing in 90's and early 2000's were very common to have check point systems like dark souls. but i guess the "dark soul like" term it used instead to sound more current. I dunno...
Add a bunch of stupid hard bosses that you're basically not supposed to first try and that's usually what I've understood as souls like? Admittedly I'm not a fan, since the "bash your head against this brick wall until you get the perfect timing/build" isn't really fun to me.
Some bats actually emit frequencies that screw over bugs like a low intensity sonic weapon. It's more like it confuses them than it hurts them, but the confusion does often end with them being eaten.
@@Mewseeker No, actual bats, I don't remember the species, but there is one that emits a frequency that basically fries the equivalent of the nervous system of bugs temporarily, which incapacitates them long enough for the bat to catch and eat them. But sure Zubats do that too, the move is called super sonic.
The animation and pixel art looks so damn good in this, and it seems fluid as heck. I think I'll be picking that up if it reviews well, wishlisted for now, nice find!
I just wanna say I love that when you loot a body in front of your fellow soldiers (who just asked you to do their job for them) they are visibly disturbed 😓
Benn really enjoying the lets try series retromation and your banter makes it a thousand times better in quote 11:48 "I feel capable... Maybe not as a man but like my characters very capable😂😂😂😂
@@Retromation Right, but on my controller I set the values but the controls actually get assigned to a different button. Others in Steam have the issue.
@@Retromation ???? The issue was not the specific bindings, my issue was the input delay and straight up missed inputs. I would jump and attack and the character would just jump, no attack like 5% of the time.
Would absolutely watch a full playthrough of this when it comes out!
Great looking game! The fact the skinny and thick knights were named Makeral and Gruper had me dying too

In Retro's own words (or one word repeated many times), "cool"!
I'm not even 5 minutes into this video and I have to make a comment on the pixel art in this game. So beautiful
The Islets demo is amazing, it's another Metroidvania, and best part is it releases this year.
New valkyrie profile looks amazing.
Would love to see a lets play of this!!
This looks amazing, definitely getting this. Thanks a ton for the recommendation!
This is looking good! Cool pixel art.
Looking forward to the full series on this :)
Oh man, this looks fun!

I love the art in the game. That character reminds me of Slash from Chrono Trigger a whole lot.

Pretty gems you uncovered today. Sadly they are both in demo yet. Cant wait for the full games!
Beautiful art
I would enjoy a series of this.
game shows some promise, adding to wishlist
I love the game, but I’m not quite sure why the soldier’s body armor looks like Princess Leia’s slave outfit.
Would love to see more!
Ive been so excited for this, i need this on switch right now 😩
This looks quite nice!
This game looks so rad!
HERO: The Skül Slayer. It looks great.
Norse mythology? Let's go!

Ummmmmm…. 12:00, those spiders need to stop shooting spermatozoa at you. That definitely needs a visual change
This game looks great!
Graphics remind me of Amiga games. Nostalgia vibes.
Whoa. I was sold on this one the second you did that first big counter attack, that looked TASTY
Good stuff as always, my favorite cringe stremer :)
Playthru plz
This remind me of metal slug
It's in desperate need of improvement to the controls.
It has 100% customizable controls already
@@Retromation Right, but on my controller I set the values but the controls actually get assigned to a different button. Others in Steam have the issue.
Ah, yeah it is a known issue from the demo, you can just flip a setting to fix that. The Steam store page says how.
@@Retromation Awesome, thanks! I may have played it too early, or simply missed the instructions. Definitely appreciate your time.
Beautiful graphics combined with annoying controls. Wish I did not purchase it.
You can... remap them lol

bomb + spiderweb = ????
Nothing, it doesn't do anything
I just cringe when streamer doesn't bomb the spider webs
It doesn't do anything, watch to the end
@@Retromation I did watch to the end, did I miss the part where you bomb the webs?
