There is nobody like Jussi Björling! Admired by everybody, even by the world's greatest singers. Conviction, strength and power, without ever turning into shrieking or shouting.
Glad jul from someone who does not speak Swedish. For me it cannot be Christmas without this recording. Here come the tears. Glad jul från någon som inte talar svenska. För mig kan det inte vara jul utan denna inspelning. Här kommer tårarn
My pleasure, my friend. Glad you liked it. I too love this song. Luckliy Jussi recorded it for us shortly before he died. Sweden would have been a gloomier place without this wonderful song at Christmas.

@@Leyla7292 Tommy Johansson is a member of a swedish band called Sabaton. His voice is amazing. Greetings from Sweden and Merry Christmas to you too 🎄🌟🎅🤶🥰
Swedish people say it is not Christmas until they have heard Jussi sing "O Helga Natt". Luciano Pavarotti emulated Jussi. There are similarities but Jussi is the best.
I'm not a vocal coach, but the extreme talent and precision of this performance is easy to spot. Greatest tenor I have ever licened to. Thank you grandmother, for introducing me to this voice. RIP.
@@dinerouk :-) thank you. Not always easy to be totally correct, when using another language than my own. But. Being corrected , is the only way to learn
I always feel such a sorrow in his voice, in spite of his incredible singing technique and power, there is this X-factor that moves so many to their tears. The swedish melancoly? So many of our folksongs are so filled with sorrow but, it does'nt really explain. It's a part, surely, but, as far as my knowledge streches, there's another element in his story. His father David was a very very good singer and pedagogue and made this trio of his sons, Olle, Gösta and Jussi to do tours in North America and Europe when just 5, 6 years old. That gave Jussi his fenomenal technique but, as I have learned, his fenomenal voice also made it natural for all, possibly even himself, to sing at his mothers funeral, at the age of seven. I believe he sang for his beloved and much missed mother for the rest of his life. Listen again and think of my words.
Yes, I love Jussi's voice, way way better than even Enrico Caruso, Gigli, Lanza, Schipa and the others, so you really don't have to be Italian to sing Italian Opera...Jussi, one of the Trio Swedish singers could do Art Song, Neapolitan Folk Songs, and OMG OPERA...I use to collect Jussi's records back in Calcutta, India on the old shellac 78 RPM records.... An interesting incident from "JUSSI"the book written by Ana-Lisa Bjoerling & Andrew Farkas (and which I own and treasure with many pages highlighted and dog-eared) The incident was when David Bjoerling went to New York to the Metropolitan Opera House to study and sing...he actually met and sang for the great Enrico Caruso and I guess pissed off Caruso so badly that Caruso slapped David Bjoerling...but guess what? David slapped him back...too bad in those days outrageous T-Shirts were not in vogue...David could print on a T-Shirt..."I slapped Enrico Caruso and now all I've got is this lousy T-Shirt" ROFLMAO There's an Armenian Bass-Baritone named Pavel Lisitsian that had that rich VERY NATURAL voice that Jussi had...I've not heard anyone else with the sonorous, soulful...words cannot describe Jussi Bjoerling's gift and talent...To me he NO QUESTION ABOUT IT...is the Greatest Tenor that has ever lived...to bad he died so very young at age 38, Caruso died at age 48 too...They're both probably entertaining GOD in Heaven...hah hah hah
And he sang for his beloved father too. His father who worked so hard together with Jussis' sieblings. And then suddenly his father died. And at that time it was poverty in most of the places in Sweden. So they had a hard time after his father's death. What you wrote is just what I believe too. And he had a deep soul of just life and living. I like other tenors too. I admire for example Pavarotti very much and Caruso and Gigli and other great tenors, but to listen to Jussi is just something that like a beautiful arrow touch your heart. Merry Christmas 2017.
childhood hardship and losing mother at that young age, we all know it will stick to the youngster's mind all through his life. I am sure that is the very reason to make him sing so spiritually and with unique take than anyone else, it is a bit sad, but not deep sorrow, blended with proud, hope, strength, honesty, and clean clear voices...love so much,
M. Lanza , E. Caruso and J.Bjorling had that insane amounts of pathos in their voice, a crying like singing . Sometimes feels like he is on the brink of emotional breakdown . Crystal clear voice with incredible squillo .
I'm from Borlänge, the same city as Jussi, and he was the one that made me fall in love with opera almost 50 years ago! Even Pavarotti wanted to sing like Jussi and he actually listened to Jussi's recordings for inspiration and "tips".

No Christmas is complete without listening to o holy night with jussi. Because he sets the tone for the true message of Christmas to humanity for all time.
True message? You mean the boldfaced and utter lie the there's a "god", adding to that, that he sent his "son" down to earth to be tortured and brutally murdered only to "rise from the dead"? On top of that if you believe the BS collection of toilet paper called the bible he wasn't born at X-mas but late summer early fall, only reason it's at X-mas was to more easily "christen" the heathens that celebrated winter solstice. It's a beautiful song, sang perfectly by Jussi but there's no true message in it, just lies that has been a cancer to humanity for 2000+ years and continue to be a cancer, the worst ever inflicted on humanity!
Thank you for this upload, and the beautiful pictures to go with it!! Jussi... No words. THE voice. To whom who don't understand the power in the voice of an opera singer; I can tell that I very recently did the mistake to ask my neighbor, an 83 years old lady, soprano, to sing something. I sat across the table, 3 ft away. I felt the skin on my cheeks tighten, like a face lift of the power in her voice!! Not one tiny flaw in pitch. I don't remember what she sang, but I'll ask her. And she doesn't sing anymore, "I have done my part" she says. She is 83, doesn't use her voice, hasn't for years. And instantly gave me a new hairstyle. I AM SO FUL OF ADMIRATION!!! 💗 I can't imagen how loud a male opera singer must be, but if I ever meet one, I think I will stay back farther away than a couple of feet...
Allways amazing! He was very excellent singer. I have listened, from record, Luciano Pavarotti, Il Divo, and many singers try this song. Only Jussi Björling hits the high notes. Fantastic! 🥰
Jussi Bjørling må være den beste vokalist/ sanger gjennom alle tider. Har aldri hørt noen som synger så intenst, rent og kraftfullt som det han gjør. Hilsen fra Vestlandet - Norge

Our famous soprano Karita Mattila loves Jussi Björling.. that is why I have been going through all Jussi's performances again.. and feeling blessed. Love from Finland and Merry Xmas to you all:)
What an incredible voice, Caruso's recordings unfortnately were marred by the studios, so Jussi has to be number one in the world for his renditions of arias.
I am swedish, but this man had a unic voice that get you uninterrested of the language and the texture. No, nothing but that marvellous power of voice that he was able to presume, get me crying. What air did he breath, and where did he get it from?
I have loved this tenor since I bought my first recording of him 65 years ago aged 16. His voice is timeless and effortless and I wonder that I had such good taste at an early age in 1950! My first record of him, which I just about wore out, was The Flower Song from Carmen, 78rpm on, if I remember correctly, the HMV label..
As a matter of fact, he has some Finnish blood, his grandma is Finnish. His name is Johan Jonatan Bjorling. It was his grandma who started calling him Jussi - Poika, Finnish nickname for Johan boy. So he is part of your country 👍👍

Don't be a smartass Kerstin. I was of course addressing the original comment. Why would I call Constantin a fellow Swede if he writes "Greetings from Russia"? The issue I speak of is people saying stupid things like "for once I'm proud to be Swedish".
same feeling, took me 20 years, but lucky to have this, current radio and tv, never spent time spreading the truth, i cannot imagine for younger people to know him anytime soon...sad,

Absolut den bästa tenor som funnits... Varje gång jag lyssnar på hans röst och denna sång får jag gåshud... Och blir så tårögd och det väcker så många känslor inom mig...:-) Tack Gud för denna röst...
It can NEVER be Christmas without Jussi Björling, alone on the top still today.
I return to this every Christmas and the thrill and joy is undimmed.
Every Xmas I promise myself I won't listen to this again this year because I know it will inevitably cause me to start weeping like a child. Every year I listen to it again and I every year I end up bawling my eyes out again.
Amazing tenor voice with all the control and gentleness needed for this carol!!!!
Jussi har ej sin like! Beundrad även av världens största sångare.
Övertygelse, styrka och kraft utan att det övergår till ett skrik eller ett vrål.
Gör efter, den som kan!
There is nobody like Jussi Björling! Admired by everybody, even by the world's greatest singers.
Conviction, strength and power, without ever turning into shrieking or shouting.
"Gör efter, den som kan!" Jag önskar alla som försöker ett stort lycka till. Hittills har ingen lyckats.
Jussi Björling: The greatest singer....ever. ❣

Glad jul from someone who does not speak Swedish. For me it cannot be Christmas without this recording. Here come the tears. Glad jul från någon som inte talar svenska. För mig kan det inte vara jul utan denna inspelning. Här kommer tårarn
God Jul!
I with my parentes have seen him live. I was a little girl. Have a Nice New Year
How come you got to hear this recording in the first place?
"Här kommer alla tårarna på en och samma gång"?
God Jul och Gud välsigne dig och dina nära!
GOD JUL. Inte "Glad"!!!!
This is one of a kind! Wow! I get tears in my eyes everytime listen to Jussi
My pleasure, my friend. Glad you liked it. I too love this song. Luckliy Jussi recorded it for us shortly before he died. Sweden would have been a gloomier place without this wonderful song at Christmas.
Jag beklagar att jag inte talar svenska. . . Jussi Bjoerling was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Thank you for posting this!
36 år gammal första gången jag någonsin känt äkta julstämning hoppas inget händer nu med familjen god jul och gott nytt åt allihop önskar er en trevlig december högtids stund💖💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹🌹
This was my Grandfather Torstens favourite Christmas psalm and I miss him so much , every christmas so much❤️ everytime I hear Jussi sing i cry and Im thankful for having Torsten in my life Thank You Granpa ❤️
Many have tried 2 sing like the great Jussi Bjorlig 🙂 but nobody can do it, far away from even close 😅 Mr Jussi was one of a kind in deed 👏🎵🎤😊 What a voice of gold he had 💯%💚👌
He was unique.
Have you listened to Tommy Johansson and his version of Helga natt ?if not i recomend you to do that 😊
@@vicky_74krasniqi33 Thanx 4 your recomendation 🙂 No i have not heard his version of that song. Now im gonna listen 2 that 🙂🎵 Merry Christmas 🌲🎅
RIP.
Such a sweet message
listened to!
Kallar det "Svensk blues".
David slapped him back...too bad in those days outrageous T-Shirts were not in vogue...David could print on a T-Shirt..."I slapped Enrico Caruso and now all I've got is this lousy T-Shirt" ROFLMAO
There's an Armenian Bass-Baritone named Pavel Lisitsian that had that rich VERY NATURAL voice that Jussi had...I've not heard anyone else with the sonorous, soulful...words cannot describe Jussi Bjoerling's gift and talent...To me he NO QUESTION ABOUT IT...is the Greatest Tenor that has ever lived...to bad he died so very young at age 38, Caruso died at age 48 too...They're both probably entertaining GOD in Heaven...hah hah hah
Have you ever been to his grave? I would so love to go and say a prayer for him, but it is not possible. Dear Jussi, the idol.of my life.
@@PippaAT I have 💖. I have relatives/friends who are buried in the same cemetery. Unfortunately, I haven't been home for a very long time, due to my physical disabilities. But one day I will go home, one way or another. 💖
@milosen6744 Thankyou for your reply.
If you do go there ever, please place a flower, or say a short prayer from an elderly English lady, whose life has been enhanced by this wonderful and beloved man.
Thankyou. x
@@PippaAT You're welcome. If I remember, I will 👍! Yeah, Jussi made our little town Borlänge "known" to the rest of the world and we have museums, statues and streets named after him. He has affected everyone in our town in one way or another (and still does).💖
@milosen6744 You cannot know what that means to me. Thankyou.❤
I can't imagen how loud a male opera singer must be, but if I ever meet one, I think I will stay back farther away than a couple of feet...
THE absolute best version of this timeless classic, bar none, EVER!
Allways amazing! He was very excellent singer. I have listened, from record, Luciano Pavarotti, Il Divo, and many singers try this song. Only Jussi Björling hits the high notes. Fantastic! 🥰
Jussi Bjørling må være den beste vokalist/ sanger gjennom alle tider.
Har aldri hørt noen som synger så intenst, rent og kraftfullt som det han gjør.
Hilsen fra Vestlandet - Norge
mr Pavarotti is right now sitting in heaven and get lessons from mr Björling.
+Johan Strandvall No, no said once Pavarotti. Do not compare me with Jussi. I am only a human..

@@annikan.351 Sure, though it does seem that you're referring to your own stupidity and brain cancer.
I don't think so why ? Mr. Pavarotti if he needed some lessons he the would have got that from Mario Lanca.
Takk for alt Jussi Björling takk Norges beste nabo for at dere har gitt oss en så bra sanger❤
Underbart❤
337 people that are deaf and cannot appreciate this apparently... Gives me goosebumps and tears in my eyes every time i listen to it. One of the greatest, if not THE greatest.

According to me, the greatest with a great margin.
There were many great singers came but with respect to them jussi bjorling is the best a very happy Christmas from Ireland.
Absolutely glorious.
Länge leve Jussi Björlings minne och röst!
The most beautiful Carol sung by the most beautiful voice.
The Hymn of Christmas and a Voice from Heaven. Just splendid.

So very true ! I hear God's voice trough him! I wish I could time travel and attend a live performance ❤
My wife just came into the room to tell me it is not Christmas. And I replied this priceless music is meditative . And I as watch the horror of innocents slaughtered in the Ukraine I need Jussi.
Its Zelensky and The US Who is bombing Eastern Ukraina!!!!!!!
A voice unsurpassed in its glorious beauty! Perfect!
En av de största gåvorna man kan ha är att kunna röra människors hjärtan och den gåvan hade Jussi Björling. Vilken gudomlig röst, vilken skakande upplevelse! Tack, Jussi, för allt det vackra du gett oss.
One of the most precious gifts one can have is the ability to touch people's hearts - like Jussi Björling did, What a divine voice, what a shaking experience! Thank you, Jussi, for all the beauty you have given us.

It is rumoured that Pavarotti once said "Don't compare me to Jussi, I am only a human."
I cannot sing or hold a note if I had 50%of this mans voice i would die a happy man. Perhaps the greatest of them all.
Den mäktigaste rösten i hela världen, det är så underbart att höra honom sjunga.
I am swedish, but this man had a unic voice that get you uninterrested of the language and the texture. No, nothing but that marvellous power of voice that he was able to presume, get me crying. What air did he breath, and where did he get it from?
Jussi Bjorling is the greatest tenor that I have ever heard, absolutely magical.
What a magnificient and powerful performance by one of the greatest tenors ever. Thank you, Jussi Björling!
Your singing moved my soul...
Tack Jussi och tack Sverige. Finlands bästa granne. Gud Jul!
Tack Finland! Vi står tillsammans nu och för alltid!🇫🇮🇸🇪
As a matter of fact, he has some Finnish blood, his grandma is Finnish. His name is Johan Jonatan Bjorling. It was his grandma who started calling him Jussi - Poika, Finnish nickname for Johan boy. So he is part of your country 👍👍

+unwnme He is from Russia
Don't be a smartass Kerstin. I was of course addressing the original comment. Why would I call Constantin a fellow Swede if he writes "Greetings from Russia"? The issue I speak of is people saying stupid things like "for once I'm proud to be Swedish".
+unwnme No need to be rude:-(
Your comment was rude yes. I agree.
So many other recordings of this song on RUclips, and none compare to Jussi...
How did it take me 30 years to find the only tenor I'd ever need?
same feeling, took me 20 years, but lucky to have this, current radio and tv, never spent time spreading the truth, i cannot imagine for younger people to know him anytime soon...sad,
I echo your sentiment. My life was transformed when I discovered the great Jussi.
