      Hi Zulema,
      We apologize for not responding to your lovely comment sooner. We're happy you enjoyed our video and that it brought back fond memories for you. We first visited Uruapan in 2013 and absolutely loved it there, vowing to return again one day. The city, Cupatitzio Park and the surrounding countryside around Uruapan have made this a favorite spot for us in Mexico. We hope you get a chance to return home soon. 🥰🥰

      Hi Marthe. Uruapan is a great town to visit. We just happened upon that market with the bread rolls, we're still not sure if it's just a Saturday market, but we really enjoyed walking through it. We wish we had visited Montréal when we lived in Maine. The closest we got was visiting Québec City, which was beautiful. Thank you Marthe for enjoying our tour of Uruapan 🤗🤗.

      Yeah it gives us an excuse to return to Uruapan... not that we need any excuses! You're right it could have been straight out of a Harry Potter book. We're definitely curious about the inside of the house. Michoacán is a great state for a tonne of food specialities. We reckon yourself and Ricky would really enjoy Michoacán. Ahhh, bolillo! These football shaped rolls are a staple. In Sayulita there is still a man who carries a basket of bolillo on his head and a luggage-rack type of stand over his shoulder and he walks over the hill on Calle Libertad, down to Ave Revolution and stops at the bridge where he sells the rest. Along his walk you see, he calls out a baritone bo-li-yo to entice residents and workers he passes to come out and buy his rolls. YUMMMMM! Every day. He did it again today! 6 pesos, good deal. ours are 8. lol tourist town.

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  2 года назад +1

      Indeed, a fresh-baked bolillo simply can't be beat - they taste amazing on their own _and_ they are always a good value! Of course, loads of Kerry Gold Butter makes them even better! 😍😋 We really miss so many of the neighborhood vendors we had while living in Mazatlan! We can just about hear their sing-song calls right now! Thank you for the comment, Francie Anne!

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  2 года назад +1

      Kerrygold - my beloved addiction! The photo of me adoringly gazing at my stash is a result of the lengths I will go to, to get my hands on Kerrygold.
      When we lived in Mazatlán I heard a local international wholesale club was selling Kerrygold. At the time nowhere else was selling it. We did not have membership to the club, so I resorted to stalking, nay, selectively following a customer and begging them to buy butter for me. Obviously I had the money, I just needed them to be the card. Naturally they were a little surprised, it's not every day you have some mad Irish woman approaching you with fistfuls of pesos asking you to buy her butter! Anyways long story short, I struck gold - Kerrygold that is!
      By the way - those 3 tubs cost more than an annual membership to the wholesale club, and I have not the slightest buyers remorse! Travelling on the cheap is grand...until it comes to butter. 🧈❤️😉.
      Thanks for enjoying the video 44VeniceStreet.

      Thanks a million mjc 427 for enjoying our video. Potato cakes sound like croquettes, just a different shape. We always had the frozen potato croquettes 😉, but they are ingrained as a Christmas dinner memory from back home. The food court in Mercado Tariacuri was such a brilliant value, we will definitely go back there when we return to Uruapan. We're so glad the lady at the hotel told us about the park, it is such a lovely, peaceful wee spot. Thanks again mjc 427 for tuning in 🤗🤗.

      Hi ELGARFIO1. It sounds like people from Uruapan are very similar to Irish people with their hospitality. I (Fiona) am from Dublin, Ireland and when you visit someone in Ireland you'll never leave their house hungry or thirsty. It's lovely to encounter such warmth and welcoming from folk, quite simply to be made feel so at home 😊😊. We have to say we've found people in all of Mexico to be incredibly gracious, kind and helpful throughout our travels. We can't wait to return to Uruapan again, hopefully soon.

    • @ACoupleofDrifters
      @ACoupleofDrifters  2 года назад +1

      You're right it is very much a cultural difference. Back home (in Ireland) when you visit someone's home not only will they offer you food and drink, but they'll absolutely insist you have something. No matter if you say "no thanks" the food and drink will be offered to you multiple times, to the point that before you know it you'll have at least a cup of tea and a plate of sandwiches and biscuits in front of you. Actually saying "no thanks" is almost just a form of politeness with us, as we know we'll be offered the food/drink again.
      When I came to the U.S. for the first time and found myself being offered something to eat/drink I naturally said "no thanks", as is customary back home. I soon realised things were very different and there was no second offer or insistence on having something to eat or drink. That was it, no food or drink was ever just placed in front of you. I quickly realised that if I really wanted that food or drink I'd better say "yes please" on that first and only offer!
      Also massive apologies for my late response to your comment. This is also very much an Irish trait - we're not the best timekeepers 😉. Thank you so much ELGARFIO 1 for your very much appreciated comment. We hope you make it home to Uruapan soon and I hope you make it to Ireland some day (if you haven't already been). I think you'd like it there. I see a lot of similarities between Ireland and Mexico. 🤗🤗

      Do you really think a tourist destination like Uruapan (population over 350,000) is an _unknown_ place? In this video we feature spots in Uruapan which are very, very easily found by conducting a simple online search - even guidebooks on Mexico feature attractions in Uruapan. This is year 2023 and there aren't many _unknown_ places, just little-known ones - Uruapan is not one of them.
