Beware of Camp Host Imposters, Free Camping California, Lassen National Forest Goumaz Campgrounds

  • Is there a campground host Imposter? Will our 5th wheel make it down the long and narrow forest road? Or, will we get stuck trying to revisit one of our favorite free campgrounds in the Lassen National Forest, just outside Susanville California. Join us on our adventure to see if we make it and if we run into any campground host imposters.
Location: Goumaz Campground, Lassen National Forest, Free campground near Susanville, California
UPDATE: As of now, we still do not have an answer from authorities as to whether or not there was a camp host at some point or if someone was impersonating one. We did however reconfirm via the Lassen NF website that Goumaz Campground is free to camp at and no fee is required.

Welcome to DestinationOpenRoad! We are Scott & Teri. We live full-time in our Heartland Big Country 29.50 5th wheel. We have recreational property in Washington state, that we sometimes go to to get of the road for 1 to 3 months. We create and share videos of our life as full time RV travelers.
Some of our top questions we get asked:
Do you have a regular house? No, after being on the road for 5 years we sold our traditional home.
How old are you both? Scott ~ Baby Boomer 10/21 / Teri ~ GenX 05/24
How old is Punkin and where did you get her? Born Sept 4, 2014. We adopted her from the Yuma Az Animal Shelter. We are her 4 family and her forever home.
Will you ever move back into a home? Maybe, but not any time soon.
Have you ever done anything like this before? Yes, we lived on a 1947 30' Wooden Monk Boat.

There was a huge fire that came thru that area and the National Park in 2022 I believe. This is a beautiful camp site. One I would love to camp out. Getting old Big Bertha ready to head out when needed. :) I think that there may be wolves in that area, but not 100% sure. There used to be but an older fire, supposedly took them all out, however, I camped on free land near the Hat Creek Rim observatory and saw, what I thought a wolf chasing a Doe - was too big to be a Coyote.

Hopefully you get rid of the bugs. With all the rain we've gotten the mosquitoes have been horrible. Every thing has gotten overgrown. Glad you were able to find a nice spot to park in. Perhaps while your in Washington State you could go to the east side for a few days. I lived in Pasco for almost three years. It would get hot but was a dry heat and cool down at night. The fishing was great on the Snake river. At least there is sunshine. Stay safe and Hugs to Punkin. Love y'all

Back in the 1980s when I got to a state line they asked if we had any fruits or nuts, my girl friend told him no but we could pull over and she would make him something to eat if he was that hungry. He got mad and said that wasn't funny, she told him she wasn't being funny if he was hungry she would feed him. Later I explained why they asked about fruits and nuts. She laughed and said she was glad she answered how she did. We did have some apples in the fridge and a bag of almonds but didn't have to turn them over. Hope you find a nice 70 degree place to camp all summer.

What the ag guys ask about could be a seasonal thing -- times when known pests are likely to be found, or maybe when certain crops are being grown..... or even the stage of growth. Also, different states will have different things they are on the lookout for, both going into a particular state and coming from. Sounds crazy and probably feels inconvenient for some..... but it's really made a dent in keeping the worst of the bad stuff contained.
Those burnt trees are heartbreaking, eh? Gads, so many devastating fires we've had. Was that Lassen Nat'l Forest? They had at least a couple of major fires last summer. Such a tragedy.
I am totally with you on hungering for the trees. I can't imagine staying in that gray world of the desert as long as so many do.

At 19:42 those are Sarcodes Sanguinea or Snow plant. Get the Seek app. Use your camera and move it around the plant and it will tell you what it is. Then go and search photos of that name to verify it is correct

Yes, the California Forest Scorpion (Uroctonus mordax), also known as the Lake Shasta Scorpion, can be found in Northern California, including near Shasta County. However, scorpions are generally more common in Southern California than Northern California

No hurry. Both OR and WA have shut down all shellfish except for crab. Seems like this is kind of early. It hasn't been hot. Even the extended forecast is low...upper 50's

Fill mason jar with coffee grounds and clover, place a wick in center and light it (like a candle). The smoke and scent repels mosquitoes, moths, ants, and spiders.

That road reminds me of the road at Yellowstone that we were on in the early sixties while pulling a travel trailer. I was a petrified little girl! If you see this Scotty, what brand of power station do you like? My friend is asking for my help choosing one.

    • @DestinationOpenRoad
      @DestinationOpenRoad  26 дней назад +1

Sometimes, I ask myself why did I come this way, but it all worked out. As for a power station I would get at least 1800W. I do like my Allpowers.

Sooner or later a fake camp host is going to run into somebody that takes offense at that garbage and does something about it....OOOOUCCH !!! Gonna happen...Been awhile since ive been to Susanville...Have done a couple of camping stints at Eagle Lake near there...Nice little spot you found here off Hwy 44 on the way to Redding...My guess is your long past Redding by now but if ever in the area i recommend eating at C.R. Gibbs in the Best Western motel there...Love that place ....Looking forward to see whats next on your way back to Washington...Travel safe, all stay well...
