Beware of Camp Host Imposters, Free Camping California, Lassen National Forest Goumaz Campgrounds
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 июн 2024
- Is there a campground host Imposter? Will our 5th wheel make it down the long and narrow forest road? Or, will we get stuck trying to revisit one of our favorite free campgrounds in the Lassen National Forest, just outside Susanville California. Join us on our adventure to see if we make it and if we run into any campground host imposters.
Location: Goumaz Campground, Lassen National Forest, Free campground near Susanville, California
UPDATE: As of now, we still do not have an answer from authorities as to whether or not there was a camp host at some point or if someone was impersonating one. We did however reconfirm via the Lassen NF website that Goumaz Campground is free to camp at and no fee is required.

Welcome to DestinationOpenRoad! We are Scott & Teri. We live full-time in our Heartland Big Country 29.50 5th wheel. We have recreational property in Washington state, that we sometimes go to to get of the road for 1 to 3 months. We create and share videos of our life as full time RV travelers.
Some of our top questions we get asked:
Do you have a regular house? No, after being on the road for 5 years we sold our traditional home.
How old are you both? Scott ~ Baby Boomer 10/21 / Teri ~ GenX 05/24
How old is Punkin and where did you get her? Born Sept 4, 2014. We adopted her from the Yuma Az Animal Shelter. We are her 4 family and her forever home.
Will you ever move back into a home? Maybe, but not any time soon.
Have you ever done anything like this before? Yes, we lived on a 1947 30' Wooden Monk Boat.

Safe trav3l to you! Bless Punkin her best life filled with adventures with "mom and dad"!❤❤
We so love little Punkin.
@@DestinationOpenRoad Your love for this special senior pup shows in your everyday care of her! She is blessed with your love! It breaks my heart to see the neglect and harsh abuse some precious innocent animals get from horrible people!! 😢 Thank you for ❤ loving Punkin!
Wow, it really is breathtakingly beautiful.
Thumbs up!😎👍
It is and wait till you see the bike ride AWESOME 👌
The first time I went to Arizona then back to Montana I didn't realize there were so many shades of green . When you grow up with it you take it for granted nice spot
That is a fact.
I totally understand the excitement of seeing the trees and green!
That looked like a great camping spot other than the no cell signal. 😊
The best! Have a great weekend 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Pumpkin looking at all the trees oh boy 🙌
Happy pup for sure
💚 So glad to see you so happy to finally see nature and how green it is! You been gone way to long!
🌳 💚 🌲 💚 Stay Safe!! & Have a great time!! Thx for the video too!! 😊 ✌️
It's been a while, so enjoy being among the trees
Thiis a beautiful place. I love the trees and flowers. Each environment is beautiful in its own way. You have been in the desert for a long time. The change of scenery is wonderful. Take care of yourselves and Punkin.
It's so nice to be in among the trees and sweet river.
I used to live a few miles from their in red bluff California. Nice little town
We enjoy it there every time we visit
I think y'all are the best. Totally keeping it real 👍 We have been traveling the same areas and I haven't gotten to meet you yet Terri 🤔 I met Scotty when I was getting an education on windshields 😂 I have my CA permit for my little Gas One 🤷 Little One & I spent 3 days & 2 nights in the Redwood Forest-solo-no cell & did not know about the mountain lions 😳 Smith River was awesome and of course the Pacific Ocean brought me to tears 😍 Filmed with the cell upside down and then uploaded the video-then realized what I had done 🤷😁 Sendin Grandmama love ❌⭕, Iris and Little One 👋🐾. Oh-Happy Fathers Day Scotty 🙏❣️🎉
We're slowly making it to the Pacific Ocean, would like to see better weather but o well. It was great meeting you at the glass shop, safe travels and have a nice weekend
Scotty ain't skeered of no narrow rocky road , no sir . Scotty will put that fifth wheel anywhere Moma say's put that thing . What a wonderful place to camp ! Enjoy .
You know it Craig anywhere anytime. We're going north and I didn't need the air conditioner anymore 😁😁😁😁😁😎😎😎😎 have a great weekend 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Oh, I love lilac bushes! They smell so good. I've even made wine with their blooms. 👍
Tasty. 😊😊😊😊
There was a huge fire that came thru that area and the National Park in 2022 I believe. This is a beautiful camp site. One I would love to camp out. Getting old Big Bertha ready to head out when needed. :) I think that there may be wolves in that area, but not 100% sure. There used to be but an older fire, supposedly took them all out, however, I camped on free land near the Hat Creek Rim observatory and saw, what I thought a wolf chasing a Doe - was too big to be a Coyote.
We were glad to have only seen birds and fish. 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Hello Scott and Teri! Scammers are everywhere!
You just never know
@@DestinationOpenRoad
lol 😂 it’s a fruit check 2:21
395 into California 😊
In my travels I hear people say how beautiful the desert is and I always wonder if they’ve never been to the mountains
There's beauty everywhere but you have to be able to open your mind sometimes to be able to see it ,some people can't see the forest thru the trees 🤗
Great question
Beautiful campground and it looked very clean. Your little Punkin is so darn cute! Love all the wild flowers, thank you for taking the time to show the unique beauty of each place you stay.
We enjoy it and are so pleased that you all enjoy also.
Very nice camp site👍enjoy your stay there🤗
Thank you, I will
Punkin' was doing the happy dance....🐕😁😁😎😎👍👍
She is so loving fresh green grsss.
We love green grass too, we're part of her tribe, :)
So amazing to see all the changes 😊 thank you for sharing 😊
You are so welcome!
Good for you guys! Enjoy.
Thank you! Will do!
Love the trees!!!🌲🌲🌲
So good to in among the trees.
Hello T&S. Now that's my kinda camping environment. Thank for sharing such a beautiful spot!
Our pleasure! Have a awesome weekend
Hi guys I'm just watching this episode, and the red plant you were just looking at is called a snow plant 🤗
They are so neat looking.
Thanks for identifying. Never been out west, and totally unfamiliar with this gorgeous plant. ☺
Clear skies and warm temps on Whidbey Island 😎
That is well deserved ENJOY. 🫡🤗🤗
Wow.. beautiful campground
It was we so enjoyed our time there.
I grew up kind of in that area, near Burney, California. I used to work for the forest service, and we would go up into that area sometimes. There are definitely coyotes. Also, the plant that your husband called lambs ear, we always called rabbit tobacco. That is a beautiful campground! Makes me want to go camping.
Great time at a awesome place for sure.
❤ your adventures ...
Thank you So much for watching 👍👍👍
All I could think of on that last stretch of road was WHAT IF someone is coming toward us ???? I too, love the trees, enjoy ! Thanks for sharing.
That's what we're thinking, 😁😁😁😁
@@DestinationOpenRoad me too!!
Awesome camping spot 😎🙋♀️
We were very happy 👍👍👍👍
Awesome video
Thank you so much for watching
A beautiful area with flowers. Like Scott said free water & porta potty. Yeah ! 😄😄😁. Enjoy
So true!
Hopefully you get rid of the bugs. With all the rain we've gotten the mosquitoes have been horrible. Every thing has gotten overgrown. Glad you were able to find a nice spot to park in. Perhaps while your in Washington State you could go to the east side for a few days. I lived in Pasco for almost three years. It would get hot but was a dry heat and cool down at night. The fishing was great on the Snake river. At least there is sunshine. Stay safe and Hugs to Punkin. Love y'all
All the bugs are gone and I think Punkin is happy the fly swatter is put away. Have a safe and awesome weekend. 🤗🤗🤗
While visiting my son in CA we camped at Crater Lake CA not to far from Goumaz, we where there fathers day weekend.
Beautiful Campground. Safe Travels
We so enjoy it there. Also not to many bugs.
Back in the 1980s when I got to a state line they asked if we had any fruits or nuts, my girl friend told him no but we could pull over and she would make him something to eat if he was that hungry. He got mad and said that wasn't funny, she told him she wasn't being funny if he was hungry she would feed him. Later I explained why they asked about fruits and nuts. She laughed and said she was glad she answered how she did. We did have some apples in the fridge and a bag of almonds but didn't have to turn them over. Hope you find a nice 70 degree place to camp all summer.
🤣🤣😂😂
What a great story. We have been enjoying some of the best weather this spring.
You both made an excellent decision to see the country, experience life. You have lived a few lifetimes. Most people traveled our country in short spurts. I have never visited this part of California. What beautiful country. At one time I was going to do what you are doing but my health took a downward spiral. It brings joy to my heart to see others such as yourselves enjoy the country of USA and meet people.
We are so happy to have you coming along with us.
The flowers and trees are beautiful!! Never thought about squirrels on your roof...
They get in everywhere
good vid on travel keep up the good vids thanks lee
You got it and thank you Lee. Have a nice weekend
Dad always called those red flowers, Snow Flowers. They actually pop up thru the snow...we saw lots of them at Lassen...they live of the fungus under the soil and have not chlorophyll. ...
They are so neat looking.
beautiful camping area
It really is!
Beautiful camp site. Lucky you, 💗 punkin looks like she is havin a wonderful nose fest with all the cool smells.
She can't walk 5 feet without stopping
Like those wild flowers. Bet y'all are happy to see the forest trees again, and grass. The desert has a pretty look too, just different for each area. That cold water, I would definitely have my feet in there. Be safe. 🙂👍
We are so loving the trees and grasses and clear running streams and the lack of all the dust in the air we can breath.
Lasson forest is so pretty. And yes, Ausia is our flower girl.💐
It really is!
I had to laugh when Teri kept saying how green everything was
You sounded like me when I went back to East Texas. So unbelievably green!!! I think it sounds like we really needed to get out of the desert!!!!! Stay safe and have fun!❤
We enjoy the desert, but are so happy to be in the woods.
I can't do what you're doing but thanks for taking me along anyways ❤
Thank you So much for going along have a great weekend
Here for you.😊
Thank you Thank you
Moth's have shown up here in western Tx. I haven't seen them in many years. They swarm porch lights etc. Thanks for the videos. :)
Thank you for watching and commenting have a great Saterday
Scott and Teri, my daughter and I just got back to Eugene, Oregon today (June 7) from a very hot trip to Casa Grande, Arizona to see my sister . We left home on the first of June so it was a fast trip. So good to be home. Hate the heat. I am not a good desert person, love the trees and green. We traveled in our car. No longer have an RV.
We are just below you here in Oregan it's been perfect weather. LOVING IT.
Hey guys, can hardly hear y'all on a lot of the video, but still loving your videos ❤
Sorry about that
Southern Oregon still has 4 seasons. It's wonderful. 🎉
That's were we are at. It been perfect 😊😊😊😊
Wow I didn't know Pines had flowers , red too
Me either
Remember, after a fire morel mushrooms grow, probably after a rain.
Didn't know that.
Those red plants are called snow plants.
Awesome thank you
Well, you say you don’t like Washington, because we have rain a lot. It was 80° yesterday, and it’s supposed to be hotter today so it’s a good thing you left so you could chase the rain. Washington, we are clean people, because we’re washed a ton, right! Key: Rain, I call it liquid sunshine, and because with the word sunshine, it goes away quicker. Safe travels.❤❤I love to dance in the rain.🙃💃I live on the west side of the state❤
I don't remember saying we don't like Wa, it's our home state, we have properly at Ocean Shores. We are taken it slowly back.
I have had a deer in my yard for the past 3 days.Such a treat.
Awesome 👍👍👍
... Love ya !!!!!!!!!!!!! Please come back to Michigan !!!!!!!!!!!! Give us another try !!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We so enjoyed our time in Michigan, definitely will be back.
I bet it smells so good in the a.m.
It's the best.
Another much dust out this way in Maryland❣Unless you want it, 4 wheeling dust is fun 😊
You got that right!
I grew up partly there in Lassen, swimming and camping at Antelope Lake. Highly recommend stopping there, while u are in Lassen. Its before janesville That fire was 3 years ago. I miss it but could no longer afford to live there
We will have to checkout Antelope lake thanks for the info.
@@DestinationOpenRoad it's my happy place. Enjoy
The fire was the Dixie fire in 2021. It burned almost 400,000 acres and is the largest single wildfire ,2nd largest complex in the history of california. It completely destroyed the towns of Greenville and Canyon Dam. Many homes in the community of Indian Falls too. I still cry when i drive that way.
So very sad.
Its been in the 80s in Spo the last two days, school is out on June 15, time to start getting firewood for winter. Funny huh. Love wash and Idaho
So glad to be out of the desert
The Goumaz campground is named for my great great Uncle (Great grand mothers Uncle ) Grace Goumaz
That is so awesome 👍👍👍 we so enjoy our time up there.
@@DestinationOpenRoad Philip J. Goumaz (p. 406)
The subject of this sketch was born in Switzerland, October 9, 1844. In the spring of 1851 his parents came to the United States. In 1852 they settled on a farm in Fayette county, Illinois, where his father died in 1855, and the mother in 1865. Philip remained on the farm until 1863, attending school in winter, when he came to California. He arrived in San Francisco by the Nicaragua route in April, 1863, and went to Plumas county. After farming there two years, he came to Honey Lake valley. In the fall of 1866 he bought his present ranch of 200 acres, three miles south-east of Susanville, where he has since been engaged in the stock business. Mr. Goumaz is a member of the lodge, chapter, and commandery of the Masonic order at Susanville. He is a republican in his political views. June 29, 1880, he married Miss Susan J., daughter of Captain E. S. and Sophia Talbot, born on the ship A. H. Stephens, off the coast of Peru, January 26, 1858.
Come to Pennsylvania sometime it would cool to see ya we got bunch of places to bigger campers
👍👍👍👍👍
It is a forest road in the Lassen NF. So it is made for the big Cal Fire Fire trucks to go down at a pretty good clip. You should be good in your RV!
Thanks for the info
Come to Florida in the winter..😊
Maybe next year.🤗🤗
If those are pantry pests you can get sticky trap that have a pheromone strip on it, the work awesome!! You can get them at most stores.
I will checkout Thank you
Just a suggestion. Keep a log of the campgrounds you visit and the site # you stayed in, plus the amenities it offers. I even record new friends we meet.
We do most the time we have missed a few Wal Mart 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
We have a “DORA”…… which is my class c “project” am having fun with it. And we have Big Bertha - which is our home on wheels most of the time. Sooo looking forward to meeting you both this summer. Lisa Pizza PNW…… Your neighbor just north on the 101. ❤️🍕🌸🥰
We should be out on the coast soon. Come on nice weather. 👍👍👍
Pumpkin was thinking 🤔 so many trees 🌳 how do I decide with one to go potty on?😊😊😊
I do believe Punkin hit every tree. bush, and blade of grass.😁😁😁
remember the one at hippy hole? 😮
That's what came to mind. That crazy guy.
What the ag guys ask about could be a seasonal thing -- times when known pests are likely to be found, or maybe when certain crops are being grown..... or even the stage of growth. Also, different states will have different things they are on the lookout for, both going into a particular state and coming from. Sounds crazy and probably feels inconvenient for some..... but it's really made a dent in keeping the worst of the bad stuff contained.
Those burnt trees are heartbreaking, eh? Gads, so many devastating fires we've had. Was that Lassen Nat'l Forest? They had at least a couple of major fires last summer. Such a tragedy.
I am totally with you on hungering for the trees. I can't imagine staying in that gray world of the desert as long as so many do.
We are so happy to be among trees and clear running rivers 😊😊😊
😊❤
Hola 🤗 🤗
Come move to TN. We are from WA and then spent 8 years in AZ and now we are in E. TN. It’s a nice mix of WA and TN.
It's beautiful in TN.
I spent a lot of years in northern Calif, but my husb's folks were in Eastern Tennessee, so we have visited quite a few times. We too observed that the land there reminds us of Northern California, particularly the Western Sierra foothills. It's beautiful. Of course, there is beautiful land all over, but I really resonate with the Smokies.
Those yellow flowers after the snow plant at 19:47. Those aren’t Lambs Ears they are fuzzy, those are called Mule’s Ears.
Thanks for that info.
❤ what a beautiful place safe travels keep in touch❤ sorry you still have the b u g s
❤
We are bug free now.
Those Red plants in the ground are called Snow plants they only grow during the spring.
Thank you.
I read an article that said coyotes are pretty much everywhere ever NYC, i'm just outside a fairly sizable city and I seen one about 20 years ago my neighbor saw one about 5 years ago because food is so abundant here there is no need for them to be out during the day where they are seen unlike the desert, i'm in the mid atlantic area, plenty of rabbits, squirrels etc.
It's amazing the places we hear coyotes at night.
At 19:42 those are Sarcodes Sanguinea or Snow plant. Get the Seek app. Use your camera and move it around the plant and it will tell you what it is. Then go and search photos of that name to verify it is correct
Great thinking. 👍👍👍
i enjoy it a lot, really really how sweet husband wife, and no words, just awesome
You are so kind
Yes, the California Forest Scorpion (Uroctonus mordax), also known as the Lake Shasta Scorpion, can be found in Northern California, including near Shasta County. However, scorpions are generally more common in Southern California than Northern California
Thanks for the info! 👍👍👍
No hurry. Both OR and WA have shut down all shellfish except for crab. Seems like this is kind of early. It hasn't been hot. Even the extended forecast is low...upper 50's
Thanks for the info I just looked that up it does seem very early in the summer for this problem. Hopefully it blows by quickly I'm ready for some clams and oysters and crab.
🙋♀️🌻
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😊😊😊😊
Lambs ear is good to use as TP
Unless you're allergic to it like me!! Lol 😮😅
I may have to try that. I wander it one leaf equals 2 rolls 😁😁😁😁
Do your kids and grandkids ever meet you and camp? That would be fun!!
We see them when we go back to Wa.
🌸 💙💙💙
🤗😊🤗
Fill mason jar with coffee grounds and clover, place a wick in center and light it (like a candle). The smoke and scent repels mosquitoes, moths, ants, and spiders.
I'm going to have to try.
@DestinationOpenRoad I've seen it on RUclips, but also confirmed it works. We use it when we hang out in backyard.
Have your friends come see you
No we're all alone
😊
Hola hope you have a great weekend 👍👍👍👍
Miss Silly Als
😁😁😁
That road reminds me of the road at Yellowstone that we were on in the early sixties while pulling a travel trailer. I was a petrified little girl! If you see this Scotty, what brand of power station do you like? My friend is asking for my help choosing one.
Sometimes, I ask myself why did I come this way, but it all worked out. As for a power station I would get at least 1800W. I do like my Allpowers.
@@DestinationOpenRoad Thank you Scotty. I do appreciate it. 😘😘
Sooner or later a fake camp host is going to run into somebody that takes offense at that garbage and does something about it....OOOOUCCH !!! Gonna happen...Been awhile since ive been to Susanville...Have done a couple of camping stints at Eagle Lake near there...Nice little spot you found here off Hwy 44 on the way to Redding...My guess is your long past Redding by now but if ever in the area i recommend eating at C.R. Gibbs in the Best Western motel there...Love that place ....Looking forward to see whats next on your way back to Washington...Travel safe, all stay well...
Red plant might be Snow Plant
Thank you they are so cool looking.
Hey Kids 👋
Hola 🤗 🤗
🌸🙏🏻
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I’ve heard of people going around and pretending they are comp host in some places and collecting money from people. It’s a shame that there’s crooked people in beautiful places. ❤
Never just hand your money over.
💚👀

Beavers well have a lodge in the dam usually. So no, that is nature. A tree fell across the creek and vegetation piled up at 22:52
👍👍👍👍
Look out for Bigfoot!!! lol 😊
Always 😄😄😄😄
When you cook inside, doesn’t the smell linger? Would the bears be drawn to that? I’m just curious.
Teri asked that same question just the other day. We're just a bigger tin can.
