      Hey, I'm not overly familiar with the Ares name apart from knowing that they are flatland specific frames. I know that in terms of aesthetics, they were very revolutionary. As the channel grows, I'm hoping to get further afield and hopefully one day, I'll I get to see some Ares products from the midschool era. I'm sure that there are viewers that would like to see more flatland orientated rides! Thanks for watching! 🙏

    Great collection! I’ve just gotten my hands on a 2007 Kink Far Side. You wouldn’t happen to have a connection that I could get a set of decals for this would you. Your collection is awesome! standards put the icing on the cake. Great collection, brother.

      @robertburriss4130 Thanks for watching! Decals for you Farsde. That's going to be tricky. Kink had kind of lost their appeal around the time of the Farside. Their stuff looked like everybody else's for a few years. Still does I guess but that's the newschool way. So that era of Kink wasn't particularly popular and collecting newschool frames has yet to take off in popularity, so there's not much demand for reproductions by 3rd parties.
      What Kink does have nowadays and has had for about the last 10 years is one of the greatest teams out there, in my opinion. As a company, they are really helpful when it comes to their customers and fans. My 1st port of call for decals would be Kink themselves. They may have something laying about in the Blackout warehouse. After that, it would be Kink stockists/LBS.

      @@nowthatsmidschool I agree Nathan Williams, Casey Starling, Santiago Rivera(correct me if that’s wrong) Jacob Cable, Calvin Kosovich and a few more. In my opinion they are the best rounded team out. Kinks bike quality is the best in my opinion. My first complete I bought when I started riding again was a Switch and I absolutely loved it. Now I own four as well as a Subrosa a BSD a FitCo VH3 and an Aitken 3.5. I still have my very first bike frame and forks hanging on the wall, a 87 Redline PL20 and I have my mid school GT compe and Haro master hanging too but your collection is second to none! Love it brother! Thanks for the info

      @@robertburriss4130 I don't know about second to none! Haha! It sounds like you have nice little collection going too, spanning the ages! I don't have any oldschool frames, unlike yourself with 87 Redline. I really can't be going down that rabbit hole! Haha!! That said, whilst I don't want a 83 Raleigh Burner, I could be tempted in a 84 Curtis Pro that my brother passed down to me!

      @@nowthatsmidschool only old school bike I’d like to have again is a DiamondBack Harry Leary Turbo but I didn’t ride for a few years and almost missed the whole mid school era. I still have my DK Cleveland but as far as mid school other than that I only have decorations. I love Metal and I love Standard. Didn’t Metal make a Slayer frame too? And as far as Standard I’d love to have that trail boss that Jimmy Levine hit the church gap on road fools

      @nowthatsmidschool  Месяц назад +1

      @robertburriss4130 It was Subrosa who made a Slayer bike. They're quite collectable as they were a limited number build. DK made a Slayer frame that was an evolution of the S.O.B frame. Quite a few people have build Jimmy Levan replica Trail Boss bikes. The best I've seen was built by Chris Rye of Props Visuals for his Jimmy Levan documentary, Go Fast Pull Up. 👌

    Hi. Thank you for answering my question US vs Taiwan. Yes it make sense that BMX are more produced in Taiwan than in US. I think for the "technicality" comparison is more about the quality between BMX been made in Taiwan vs US. I noticed that hard core Mid School collector like you collect brands like S&M, 2Hip,...which I understand are produced in US and are more expensive ( correct me if I am wrong ). Happy new year 2024.

    • @nowthatsmidschool
      @nowthatsmidschool  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching man! Yes, you're absolutely correct to state that US made products are more expensive. In the early days of overseas production, the quality difference was noticeable in terms of durability. Fit and finish of overseas items was generally very good and for the bigger brands, the designs were also well thought out.
      When the "rider owned" brands started becoming more numerous, materials and workmanship seemed to be the biggest issue for them, with many frames breaking quite quickly. Unlike the big brands like GT, Haro, Mongoose etc, the likes of Volume and Federal just couldn't afford to have representatives making frequent journeys to the far east to keep an eye on quality control and relied on trust.
      Don't get me wrong though, some US made frames were not quite as well sorted as they should have been. The Kink Fiend for instance was notorious for the headtube breaking off. My 2Hip Soul cracked and I know of several other US made frames of the time breaking also. When you take into account the variables such as riding conditions, the level of riding, crashing, poor bike assembly by the individual, the question of quality is not a clean and cut one.
      I guess the big deciding factors of whether a person chose a US made frame or an overseas frame boiled down to that person's finances and that person's appreciation for a certain rider or brand. Some people are die-hard Standard Bykes fans and others like myself, were happy to go with a number of brands over the years.
      Of course, this is just opinion and is no way provable with hard facts. Thanks @timemoney2775 and happy new year to you too!
