We ask our local bakery to save their empty frosting buckets and lids for us. We use them to save compost, harvest veggies, etc. This is another great idea!
Made 4 of these nesting buckets and with in a day got our first egg laid in one. Thank you for your helpful video on how to make these nesting buckets.
Hi it's been a while since you posted your bucket nest box video...We just wanted to say "Thanks" we are a Poultry 4H club in NY and we made your bucket design for a club project... The club kids marked them and our club dad's cut them ,then the kids sanded them and we gave them washers and large screws for mounting them at home... We did 26 buckets in 1- 1/2 hours... Whewww it was a fun Meeting... Big Thanks for your post😁😁😁😁😁
Morning Jason, you did not mention but should. When it's time to change the bedding in the nest box, by being that the lids are removable, you can just remove the lid and push the into a wheel barrel and head straight for the compost pile. Love great simple designs that work.
Good use of something you have on hand. Reuse and recycle. Your girls seem to like them. Yesterday I watched an older vlog where Little Berniece was missing and broody on a huge clutch of eggs on the garden.
Thank you dude. I bought a animal pen from TSC that was missing the back panels and have been building a heavily modified make it up as I go addition. I was looking for an easy solution to keep everything clean. Short, easy to hear, no music, straight to the point, thoroughly explained. Keep them coming please I am turning raw forest into a homestead in KY and need short videos since our internet sucks.
Thanks Jason! I think all animal's like people need their privacy! Just most people don't realize that.. Cause they think animals are stupid. Great video! 😀😁
Very creative design. I use the gray plastic moulded ones with the perch in front of the opening. They cost a few bucks more but the girls really live them!
Very helpful, thank you. I also enjoyed your modified egg mobile video. We decided to get backyard chickens this year, and I was able to follow John's book and your videos to make my REO Cluckwagon with your bucket nesting boxes.
I have seen that it is supposedly necessary that they have "roost bars" in front so that they can hop up and into the nest box. Is that not true? Are the mounting bars between the buckets fulfilling that purpose? Or do you just have them lower?
Great job 👍 ! Looks awesome. I wonder if the rain this evening is going to rain out the meet up at the park 😒? I was coming to meet everyone but no one is going to be there, I hope there's a next time. 😁 I was in the area and hoping to go.
Hey there Jason, did you know that you don’t have to go to all that trouble of cutting your bucket? The girls like a whole bucket, sans lid, VERY WELL too. Leave to bail to make clean out easy.
Yes, chickens are just crazy. We have 12 chickens, & 8 boxes to lay in, and the chickens lay all their eggs in 1 or 2 boxes. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day.
Do you have problems with raccoons? If you do, how do you deal with the raccoons? Am thinking of redoing my chicken house and looking to see if yours would fit my situation here.
Master carpenter + tools + attitude = fun video
Great video. Thanks for the info. Your chicken just wanted to be recognized at the end of the video is all.

I used a cordless circular saw and it came out great! Thanks for the tutorial.
I like the way you did that I some of them don't show that much but. You? Showed me exactly how To Do it.
I just love your videos. So informative and practical in this a nesting box costs $19 vs a plastic bucket for $2.96 world.
