I totally agree and add that Roy Khan is one of the very few singer I've heard who sounds even better live than in studio recordings with mastering and everything. An absolutely wonderful singer in my opinion.
Kamelot is still around and thriving. Roy left for health reasons. Tommy Karevik took over for vocals in 2012. Their newest album, "The Awakening," came out this year. The newest music video from it is "Eventide".
Oh my gosh. You've opened Pandora's Box with Kamelot. I LOVE Kamelot... the current lead, but, especially, Roy Khan. I discovered Kamelot over two decades ago, so I am a die-hard Roy fan. And, yes, Roy is classically trained! He is currently back with the band he sang with prior to Kamelot, called Conception. At least, last I heard. This video is from One Cold Winter's Night... as was Elizabeth (thoroughly enjoyed that reaction!) The entire concert was AMAZING. And this live performance is much better than the 'official video', in my opinion. So now I have a request. Please do 'Abandoned' from this concert! I love your reactions. I particularly enjoy reaction videos from those within the music industry, or with real musical or singing talent, who are checking out genres that are not their typical 'cup of tea' lol. Anxiously waiting.... lol 😊
I think you should check out Simone Simons separately. Because she's amazing. And definitely something from fresh performances, not old ones. For example this: Epica - Unleashed (live at the AFAS live 2023) ✌️
@s1mperadicator13 Well, actually, Simone's vocals are really few in this song, there's not much point in focusing on her. That's why I say that her live vocals need to be analyzed separately. and the vocals are not from old 20-year-old performances, like this show, but from modern performances.
Oh boy. I clicked myself here in an instant when I saw this. When someone reacts to Roy Khan-era Kamelot live, I´m there. I have wonderful memories, as I saw this line-up live back in the days. Doesn´t come much better than this !
One Cold Winter's Night is in my opinion one of the absolute, if not the best, recorded and mixed live album ever. The recording of this show was absolutely stunning from a technical point of view.
Omg! I was so excited to see that you were reacting to this and was totally surprised that you'd actually seen my comment recommending this song! I'm so glad you liked it! I loved hearing your thoughts!
Roy Khan era of Kamelot is and has always been my favorite band of all time. There was just something so special about it and it meant a lot to me. I miss it so much. He's such a fantastic singer.
Love that you are breaking down details regarding the sheer brilliance and beauty of Roy Khan and Simone! I so miss Roy with Kamelot. I was supposed to see him in Chicago - relegated to Fabio...
Roy Khan also sings on the song Lost Children of the Universe, on the Star One album in 2021 (a project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen). In Ayreon projects, one of the vocalists is Tommy Karevik, who is now lead singer for Kamelot.
Fiquei tão empolgada em ver que reagiu a essa música, esperava por isso há bastante tempo. Kamelot e Epica são duas das minhas bandas favoritas, Roy e Simone tem vozes incríveis e muito carisma. Obrigada ❤❤❤
When the album/official music video for this song came out in 2004, it was my first time hearing Simone.. I don't think she'd created Epica just yet. After Roy Khan burned out, Tommy Karevik took over, and Kamelot is still around today. Roy eventually returned to his old band Conception, so he's still making music.
So Kamelot is still touring, just saw the last show of their US Tour at the Hard rock Cafe in Orlando, Florida. It was bar none the best live performance I have seen to date at every level, and I'm 46 and have seen most of the greats, from Maiden to Queensryche in the metal world, and Bob Dylan to Tina Turner, otherwise. The particular point you make about the impeccable vocal delivery in this video was my feeling thought the whole concert. As a singer myself, all great singers I have scrutinized as a student live have slight imperfections, sections you see them struggle and maybe not be spot on. Tommy was impeccable, as well as everyone else in the band, and Melissa Bony that filled the female role in the concert is the best thing in metal since Floor Jansen. You need check this new line up out. This link is from their new album with Melissa Bony, get ready because besides a great voice she will feast your eyes! Cheers! ruclips.net/video/D1ZiD9Bh_og/видео.html
Roy Khan is a trained opera singer who decided he wanted to do metal singing instead. He has some amazing stuff. While I was singing and performing classical voice, he's the reason why I got into metal of any kind.
Kamelot are amazing, Simone is also and will appeal to your music theatre background. Maybe check out her 'Part of your world' little mermaid cover to ease you in before you tackle full on Epica
You definitely should dive into Simone's vocals from some live Epica performance. For example Unleashed - Live at AFAS live or Sancta Terra live from the Retrospect. You can also see a more theatrical side of her vocals on Ayreon - Daniel's Descent into Transitus, where she sings with the current Kamelot lead singer.
Greetings from New Zealad once again Ken! Great reactions and analysis as always :) The Haunting! Roy Kahn is incredible! Loved this song for years! The video that was done for this track is great too. He has such a powerful voice. I feel that he toned it down a bit for Simone as she is a much quieter singer.
More Kamelot and Roy Khan please (saw them live twice in the Netherlands). Wath *_"Elizabeth I, II & III"_* : ruclips.net/video/ecvHBLadaxM/видео.html A 13 minutes 3-part (wonful) song. About Epica, one you will certainly like .... *_"Unleashed"_* : ruclips.net/video/rxd6sxLxdys/видео.html FYI: Retrospect is the 3rd live album by Dutch symphonic metal band Epica in celebration of their tenth anniversary. The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre.
Roy Khan was studying to be an opera singer after High School. So yes, very much trained background. He made the choice to focus on metal because he felt it was a good way to utilize all his vocal skills.
I thought I had seen Epica reactions on your channel before, but a quick search now didn't reveal any! Can that really be the case, or have you deleted some videos? Assuming you are new to Epica, you have a lot of video watching to get through! I encourage you to always prefer the "Retrospect 2013" versions of any songs people request (when possible), since that was their special 10th anniversary concert with a full orchestra and choir, whereas their normal concerts have those things playing off a backing track for obvious economic reasons. Some songs you should definitely include: * Unleashed (thumping rock song) * Tides of Time (one of the best rock ballads of all time, basically a classical aria from our time) * Skeleton Key (one of their newer songs, proggy, look for the Omega Alive version, which was their pandemic project, a concert without an audience but with a full stage show)
l has this concert on both dvd and in my itunes library from the cd l imported there roy khan be a operatically trained tenor and his range goes from c#2-f#5 l love his voice and abandoned my fav track from this concert called one cold winter's night it was filmed on the coldest day in oslo norway where roy khan be from
Kamelot is still together, but with a different singer. As Roy was also a co-songwriter, they sound very different now without him. But he is with the band Conception now, eho he was with before Kamelot in the 90s, and I would love to see you check out something by them - it would be cool if you did Silent Crying and then Silent Crying 2.0, a new stripped down version recorded almost 30 years later.
Roy took very basic classes in opera but decided it was too rigid and he left school to join rock band Conception before he joined Kamelot. And now he is back with Conception.
Don't think he ever said it was too rigid- just metal was his first love and his opera teacher made him choose. He studied classical singing for about 3 years.
Good video as always. my first song of Kamelot was (unfortunatly) "Elizabeth I--III". brilliant but everything after it was worse :) but still very good.
Thank you for your entertaining and educating videos! #suggestion: On the channel of the Barbershop Harmony Society, there's a new version of Ylvis's silly pop song "Stonehenge" , sung here by the quartet "The Newfangled Four". I know, this sounds like it should never work, but the arranger did a marvelous job, the quartet sings amazing tags, and the overall result is as hilarious as it is musically brilliant.
Very skilled/accomplished vocalist who can easily put a ton of character into his phrases. So why am I not feeling this? Simone was a very nice addition here, but nothing spectacular. She's steadily gained in vocal power/performance throughout the years. With the Ayreon Live Beneath The Waves concert last September she was amazing. Saw her with Epica this summer and they stood out among the other acts at Summer Breeze Open Air. With Kahn dunno.. there's also something w/ his stage persona here that doesn't do it for me. Is "oversinging" a valid term, like overacting? It's all drama on each & every syllable right off the bat. Vocal skills are superb tho w/o a doubt. Cheers!
Roy Khan's era of Kamelot was incredible, a classically trained male opera singer joining a symphonic metal band is a match made in heaven.
I totally agree and add that Roy Khan is one of the very few singer I've heard who sounds even better live than in studio recordings with mastering and everything.
An absolutely wonderful singer in my opinion.
Nearly 20yrs later Simone is now the real gem in the genre
Roy is very theatrical indeed! Always loved that about his performing style. And Simone is like the perfect duet partner.
The cool thing about this cross over is that Simone Simons band (Epica) was named after one of Kamelot's most popular albums. Super dope
Oh, EPICA's missing from your channel as Simone's heavenly voice and shining! Greetings from Greece!
Definitely need some live Epica up in here!
Wait, he has not gone down that rabbit hole?
He must

Khan is a trained opera singer, which explains some of his range, power and control of his voice
I think you should check out Simone Simons separately. Because she's amazing. And definitely something from fresh performances, not old ones. For example this: Epica - Unleashed (live at the AFAS live 2023) ✌️

Yes, definitely, or Code of Life from the same show.
Simone is married to Oliver the keyboard player of Kamelot. Epica took their name from a Kamelot album
@@richardwest6358 Simone and Oliver are no longer together apparently

Honestly, you could react to the entire One Cold Winter's Night concert and we would be ecstatic ❤
Yessss, more KAMELOT and ofc EPICA. Next stop Lair Lair oficial vid with Alisa , and Sacrimony live. Metal greatings 🤘
It's Liar Liar, but close. :)
Always happy to see some Kamelot love, such a great song.

Kamelot, especially this show is better then the album. You should watch the entire show man

Simone's Epic 20 spin windmill.
kamelot is as good as ever with their current vocalist to be honest. the song writing may not be what it once was, but they're still very very good
Simone is the best singer that i heard im my whole life

Liked for the "disorganized mess' in front of us.

You have maby hört that Simone start her singing wirh 17years by Epica now shei is one of the best sopranos in Metall 🤘
