    This is the CrushStation H9 pack from Eventide. The CrushStation pack was developed in collaboration with Vernon Reid of Living Colour. Vernon got ahold of Eventide and asked why his do-it-all H9 couldn't do distortion, and the rest was history. Shortly thereafter, the CrushStation, Eventide's first foray into gain-based effects, was born and includes several presets that cover all bases of dirt and gain ranges for each. Each patch contains standard dirt controls such as Drive, clean blend, sag and several equalizer bands. Some presets utilize the onboard compression for extra-fine tuning and sustain while others take advantage of Eventides pitch effects with octave up and below. Presets like the Scuttle Butter and Bisque evoke blues tones from thick and chunky to creamy and transparent, while Presets such as Decapod Muff take the H9 into fuzz territory for a different flavor of dirt. Best of all, H9 Max users get this new Distortion algorithm free with the latest Eventide Control App. With 10 factory presets and the ability to create your own, the CrushStation changes the H9 to a true effect factotum that's equally at home on a pedalboard or in a studio.

    Full disclosure: I'm biased, 'cause I work at Eventide. One thing to keep in mind is that this is meant to be another tool in your kit, not necessarily a replacement for your Tube Screamer or Klon. In fact, I've gotten some great (and unique) sounds by having CrushStation sit in front of my amp with a bit of gain dialed in on the amp, as well. Adds a great MOSFET-style flavor. I've used it direct into my DAW with some tasty results. Frankly, I thought they were crazy when I heard of this idea. Gain is practically it's own religion. But, I'll be damned if they didn't made it sound great. Plus it does stuff no analog pedal can do. So... we're not here to replace your favorite deity, we just brought the lobster.

      Can this get some thick dual rectifier type tones?

    • @JayGoldbach
      @JayGoldbach 8 лет назад +1

      It's more like overdrive than rectifier distortion, but you really should experiment with it yourself to see. It's not going to replace my mini-rec, but it gives me a whole palette of overdrive tones it would have taken a half dozen pedals to get otherwise. Stay tuned, we have a new overdrive algorithm launch coming up...

      Hi Jay, is there any way you can program a variac'd like adjustment in a multi-gain stage sounding algorithm? To get that gain really synth-like if possible but with very smooth clean buzz.
      Check 2:30 of the track"Descent by Fear Factory" to get what I mean if possible

    Got this loaded on my max the other day. Sounds legit to me. I know some need to keep up their cred here and dismiss it out of the gate because it's digital. Some blind tests of "try and pick out the digital distortion" might be an interesting way to test those golden ears.

  • @louderthangod

    I ignored this algorithm for months but recently I finally started using it and it's pretty amazing. I love the fuzz tones I'm getting out of it. Too many fuzzes are too smooth or just sagging messes or the mids are just off or the bass gets too loose but since I can dial in the mid frequency or I can blend in just a tiny amount of clean to tighten it up....the grit and sag really get me to the exact flavor of dirt I want. Really great stuff. Since I already have a Max I can get the cheaper core pedal and it'll be maxed so I might keep one for dirt and octave stuff up front and then mod/delay/reverb at the end of my pedalboard. Oh, the hot switch is also cool....dial in my heavy rhythm sound and then I can move multiple knobs not just a volume or dirt boost on the hotswitch for a lead tone.

    h9 has it all I have 2 one for stereo in my fx loops of both amps and one for pre post on my gigrig g2. i owned all of strymons stuff, over 2k worth and finally got wise dumped the strymon effects bought 2 h9s 1 max and 1 core plus a mission ep 25k exp pedal all for 800 bucks AWESOME! strymon who?? I use analog for OD, distortion, and fuzz but got to tell ya the crushstation just adds another avenue for the user. its not meant to replace all your dirt but it gives you different settings that no analog dirt can give.I'm betting that in a blind test you couldn't tell the difference and for sure in a live setting it would be real hard

    • @anaranjadoelectrico
      @anaranjadoelectrico 8 лет назад

      +rick jones can you share the H9 max algorith, with the h9 core???? if the answer is yes......i definetly buy a max, and a core, used the core only for dirty distorsion effects and the max for other several sounds.

    • @r.llynch4124
      @r.llynch4124 8 лет назад

      anaranjadoelectrico sure can. i would get something that could flip flop. might want distortion before or after an effect. i use g2 controller 2 amps stereo 1 h9 pre in front of amp and 1 h9 post in stereo thru both amps fx loops. i have detailed diagram. awesome results. check out gigrig for the flip flop thingy cant remember what its called .or use 1 h9 in front and one in loop of your amp.needs to be instrument level loop though. i use metro amp zero loss loops on my amps

    • @anaranjadoelectrico
      @anaranjadoelectrico 8 лет назад

      Thanks for reply, im also planning to buy the BOSS ES8 controller switcher, it allows you to put pedals in any order you want, midi controll. hook pedals in parallel ect.... very interesting product. its a little expensive but i think it worth it. i used to use my FX loops, but now i go straight in front of the amp,, i know its better in fx loops, but, since i was having troubles with my guitar cables, i decide to cancelled and just go direct to the front.... but im totally willing to try again, since audio is more clear. It take my attention the thing you mention about the instrument level, can you explain more about it or have something for me to read.

    • @anaranjadoelectrico
      @anaranjadoelectrico 8 лет назад

      oohh man ! i have read about this issue, so the problem is with the amp loopers! when they have line level, the pedal can handle this, and start clipping thats why the timefactor and modefactor pedals have this little switch LINE;AMP.... to select if your amp fxloop have line level, or instrument level! .....other issue i have found searching on internet is that when you have more than 1 midi pedal, the H9 receives good the midi program change.... but he doesnt let that the midi pedals after him receives the midi program change.... since you have 2 H9, do you have any problem with the midi change program you send to the H9 that is after the first H9 in the midi chain ???

    • @r.llynch4124
      @r.llynch4124 8 лет назад

      instrument level is the way to go for fx loops. worth the effort to have it installed. metro amp excellent choice. i have zero issues with 2 h9's and midi. I actually have 3 pedals with midi 2 h9's and 1 source audio eq , NO issues with any.

    Know any pro guitarists who use digital dirt (and/or solid state amps)? I know there are some, mostly in the proggy or nu metal genres...

    • @r.llynch4124
      @r.llynch4124 9 лет назад

      pdg887 its not about copying everybody its about a different take on drive kudos to eventide

    • @pdg887
      @pdg887 9 лет назад +1

      rick jones I never said it was about copying anyone, I'm merely asking. Nowhere in my comment did I say or imply "I would never buy this because it wouldn't help me copy people I like." In fact, it was the opposite; if I can't name anyone who even uses digital dirt, let alone this pedal, what makes you think my question would be aimed at emulating anyone?
      Also, I'd think in most art fields - be it photography, film-making, painting, etc. - you would want to know whether professionals use or shun certain types of tools. You disagree?
      Also, I find your comment ironic considering that the entire PGS line of demos is essentially nothing BUT copying other people's riffs and tones (plus there are several H9 presets that either implicitly or explicitly aim to copy famous players' and boxes' tones). Eventide also proudly advertises a list of artists that use the H9 (though it's not clear whether they use it for dirt or for wet tones).
      Finally, I guarantee that you, and other guitarists, have tried (either consciously or unconsciously) to emulate the tones they listen to and love and have incorporated them into your own "sound." Even the greats - maybe especially the greats - borrowed from those that inspired them. So the implication that originality is something that happens in a vacuum is wrong.

      Digital and solid state technology is used in almost all modern guitar rigs in one form or the other. Pro or otherwise.
      Especially in a modern "Valve" amp.
      You would have to go well out of your way to intentionally avoid it these days. Which I often do. (Think 72' SuperLead).
      And even if a rig is all valve and analog- A pro is still sending his "sound" thru a solid state/digital Mixer and PA system.
      Intentionally using digital dirt is what your talking about- I get it. And your right to a certain extent. But a bit extreme.
      A great use for digital dirt is occasionally to add various amounts of it to your already dialed in valve amp dirt to add different characters to the same old sound you might get bored of. But I only add it in parallel so I don't compromise the integrity of my amp.
      Usually for some over the top lead sounds.
      Analog stomp- boxes are just attempting to do what my amp already does much better- so I sometimes use the digital distortions in my Eventide rack unit to add some different colors.
      Digital dirt is just another digital effect and countless Pros use digital effects.
      The intentional use of digital dirt is rare only because most amps have decent dirt built-in. If they didn't you would see just as much digital dirt as you see other digital effects. Anyway- so many modern so called "Analog" amps and pedals have a degree of digital enhancement going on.
      The only true pure valve distortion is from hand-wired valve amps. If there is a circuit board in your amp- then the" Valve" distortion Is more than likely being enhanced. All modern high-gain " Valve" amps have a stomp-box dirt circuit built-in at the very least- and many are hybrid now and have some digital voodoo going on as well.

      ***** It's not like I bought it, didn't use it and then immediately sold it. I used it for a while, but realised that I was only really using one or two chorus presets. It's pointless to have something that can do so much and only use such a small part of it.
      And when I realised that I could get the same, if not a better sound from individual pedals that cost fractions of what the H9 costs, it's not that hard to see why I sold it.
