  • Hey gang!
Levi and I just got back from our journey to the Oregonian Cascades! We headed out to the Portland area for a quick couple of days of work and I’ll be damned if we didn’t make a full fledged camping adventure out of it!
Hope you like the scenery and tag a long for the show. And huge thanks to my main man Levi for being such a good sport! Stay tuned for some multi Cruiser runs as we move into summer! ✌🏻

Great adventure. Good to see you on the trail again. That hot tent addition looks great.

Thanks buddy! The temps were a tad warm for the stove to be necessary, but was great to test it out!

I used to build sky cranes in central point from 2003 to 2006, worked with Marty before he died in Italy. Good times but I never got paid shit. 15$ an hour after 3 years I said now way. Now I work for NASA. Now all the people who work on the sky crane live all over

Heavy! What rear view mirror are you using?

    • @AdventureTEQ

Stock mirror. The mount of it sucks and the dimming function isn’t all that great.

Nearly 500 lbs over GVWR. Do you have any concerns or worries about overloading it?
Did you DIY the rear axle and seals during the locker install? Does the air getting into the axle indicate an air line leak or could it have just been the stuck vent valve and pressure building due to heat?

It makes me curious as to what determines the ratings from the factory… of course braking capability is a prime concern, but if you consider the trailer towing rating I’d say the brakes are more than up to the task. Perhaps it’s for the stock suspension’s weight bearing capacity. And with heavy springs and torsion bar springs being installed I’d consider it’s weight bearing capability to be much higher.
You’d have to ask someone who is is more engineering minded than me, but to answer your question; no, I have no concerns. It is VERY common for our types of trucks (and many others) to be fairly overloaded. On stock suspension, maybe I’d be concerned.

I think the cause is apparent. The vent was blocked. Every time I’ve pressurized the axle by activating the locker there has been positive pressure until it bleeds off somewhere.
Yes I installed the seals myself, as with most every seal on this rig that leaks and I get my hands on.
You can call it “DIY” if you want, I just call it Land Cruiser ownership/maintainership.

@@AdventureTEQ I have a couple breather valves sitting around if you didn't get your hands on one yet.
I wasn't aware that the air lockers would vent into the axle/diff housing, but that makes sense. Did the leaking at the outer axle seal stop after removing the stuck vent valve?

@@AdventureTEQ Sounds like you've thought through most of the overload concerns. I recall the torsion bar mounts have a cracking failure mechanism and that certain vendors, including Cruiser Outfitters, sells a reinforcing bracket. Stuff like that are where I'd expect overloading would slowly take it's toll, if at all.

Sweet. I’ll hit ya up if I need them. I just got the full brake clean/pressure wash douching done yesterday. Hoping all residual seeping will be done, but I’ve gotta go put some miles on her yet.

    Erickson Helos better

    • @AdventureTEQ
      @AdventureTEQ  Год назад

Helos are the same. Bankruptcies and poor business practices at Erickson most certainly are not “better”.
The whole heavy lift and heli industry in general is too volatile for anything to last or be permanent. So tomorrow everything could change!
