Ironically he could have walked in with a copy of the constitution and said,”Dancing is protected as free speech under the 1st amendment.” And they’d have nothing to counter him with.

There are actually several things I like better in this version and one of them is how the uncle sticks up for Ren in this scene and in another scene with the preacher where he says Ariel isn’t good enough for Ren.

Why does no version of this movie bring up the separation of church and state? The preacher has the right to ban dancing in his home and in his church if he believes it can corrupt souls, but Constitutionally, by utilizing a religious belief to implement and uphold a law, they have invalidated their law. I want a version of this movie to have the students sue the town/council for their Constitutional right not to live in a town where religious beliefs have legal consequences

It's funny cause the Bible doesn't say dancing is illegal or corrupting in fact when the Israelites came out of Egypt and through the Red Sea because of God's grace and help they danced and sang and worshipped! I love that they brought the Bible and Scripture into this movie!! More movies need Christian values put into it! Dancing ist corrupting now what happens when underage kids drink and are inappropriate that's bad.

You have the right to believe whatever you want, but you don't have the right to force your beliefs on others. The preacher can ban whatever he wants in his home, on his property and in his Church, but he has nothing to say about everywhere else in that town. Some of my neighbors play loud music often, some do it too loud, and I've gotten into arguments with some about it, but I don't think it should outlawed. You can have fun as long as you don't disturb other people.

If you remember in the movie, the 3 kids that died git drunk and stoned in the next town over and were in a car accident in their town. So the no drinking, dancing, smoking pot laws in their town doesnt help to keep much control over the kids. They'll just head to the next town. In fact thats what Wren and the other 3 did. They went to a bar in the next town drank and danced.

Cutting out the past part where Bacon said "That's the way it was in the beginning... that's the way it's always been.... that's the way it should be now" in one of the best mic drops in cinematic history should never have been dropped.

I don't know how dancing or any particular form of artistic and emotional expression is against God. God gave humanity the ability and creativity to express ourselves through music and enjoyment of such.
That the preacher didn't believe that God was against dancing, he was just abusing scripture to get what he want because he was too ignorant to understand.

I wouldn't say it was so much a desire to control the masses as it was a desire for the Reverend to deal with his pain. Recall that Reverend Moore had a son named Bobby who died in the film's opening sequence. As his wife indicates later on, both the Reverend and his daughter Ariel deal with their emotions in extreme ways. Moreover, Ariel points out that Bobby spent his whole life trying to do right by his family in every way until the accident that cost Bobby his life. From then on, Reverend Moore would blame Bobby's behavior that night for the pain he had to endure just like he wanted to blame Ren wrongly for Ariel getting physically assaulted. Based on these premises, he obviously didn't know how to cope with the loss of his son properly and thus he pushed through to have these draconian measures passed so quickly that he didn't give himself or the town enough time to process the grief.
These laws that he pressured the town council into adopting were just a means for him to take his anguish out on the town and shut out the rest of the world. I would think that anybody who's been so afflicted with heartbreak and pain would not be able to think things through carefully. It's human nature for anybody to rationalize and try to draw conclusions wrongly when you're going through a stressful situation like he did. I would also argue that if not for the accident that cost the lives of Bobby and his friends, the ban might never have happened.
This isn't an excuse for the Reverend's actions in banning dancing or what not. It's an explanation for why he thinks, speaks, and acts the way he does.

Dancing is really bad it leads to drinking and grinding and more problems. If it's innocent Dancing like in the original footloose it's not a big deal but grinding and twerking is seriously a problem and basically dry sex. Jesus created these rules to help us not commit other sins. Something as small as dancing leads to other bigger problems like night clubs and sex.
