Some of my own tips: 1) In the interface settings, you can disable items being added to the radial menu automatically. That helps with the clutter. You can do this on an item type basis, so can choose what kind of item you want added automatically or not 2) You can assign equipable items to the radial menu, for quick switching. For example, I have a necklace that helps in combat and a necklace that let's me recover a spell slot. I have them both on the radial menu. When the combat is over, I switch to the spell recovery necklace, recover a spell slot, and switch back. Note that you need to unequip the item you want to add to the radial first, or it won't show up. Once it's added you can equip it and it will still be there on the radial menu, but greyed out. Also, equipping items costs an action, so usually not a good idea to do it in combat. 3) Clear the 'jump' and 'help' slots. You can jump by pressing 'up' and help just by clicking on a downed enemy. 4) Don't be afraid to clear slots if you think you're never going to use that ability. You can put it back, though it can be a little finnicky as setting a slot will show you all the abilities and spells you know, whether or not they are prepared or already on a radial wheel. For example, I removed guidance, as I never cast it except directly in the dice roll menu. It doesn't need to be on the radial menu for that. I also removed holy rebuke, because it's terrible. Another candidate is stuff that would trigger on attack anyway. Like sneak attack or divine smite. Though I think using divine smite like that does cost a reaction (edit: it doesn't), and there are some benefits to use sneak attack directly (you can tell whether or not a sneak attack is even possible). 5) Add containers to the radial menu. I have a pouch for potions and a backpack for throwables. You could do another one for arrows, or anything else you fancy. Though sadly you do need to manually fill those containers. No custom auto-filling pouches in the game apart from keyring, alchemy pouch and supply pack. 6) By default, when you open the radial menu, it opens on the leftmost menu, and you can then switch to the others with R1. However, if you have a toggle added by some weapon or ability, the menu often opens on the radial that has that switch on it. That can be either annoying or helpful. One such example is the light of Lathander, added by a unique weapon. 7) Remember that spells and weapon attack are added by default to the leftmost default radial you start with. So if you move you're weapon attack to a new radial you made, but then equip a new weapon (even switching to a torch), those new weapon attacks will go to the default radial. The same happens when you change your prepared spells. 8) Following up from the previous point, I recommend putting stuff that isn't subject to change in a new radial on the left. Stuff like cantrips, spells that are always prepared, class/racial abilities. I also put my containers there. Stuff that is specific to a weapon, or spells you replace often, put them in the default wheel (so the one just left of the wheel that has throw, disengage, sneak,... on it) Of course, no need to do this if you still have plenty of room on the default radial. 9) Don't put javelins in the radial menu for throwing. Clicking them will just equip them as a melee weapon.
does the interface setting in #1 prevent my spells from jumbling around? I swap prepared spells all the time (not doing so is nerfing yourself) but that often causes things to unwantedly move, appear, or vanish from my radials

Yes it was such a pain organizing all of them. And I recently learned that new spells get added automatically to leftmost wheel with no option to turn off, which I assume will mess up my organization.
I’d add, that it’s very helpful to Add a new radial, as a “Flex” spot while you move and separate your other radials. Also great for organizing, say you want all your ice spells on one wheel but want another just for utility spells. As a Druid I’m changing mine to have all of my ritual spells on 1 radial for ease. Now.. time to customize and clean up them menus... kinda got used to them the disorganized way. Lol Thank you sir. Subbed!
It’s especially bad with BG3 since everything from the menus, interface, inventory, etc are all highly MMO based when playing in mouse and keyboard, and one of the main reasons I hate MMOs is the absurd interface. I actually quite like the scroll wheel and menus with a controller, but damn it’s difficult to keep everything neat and tidy.
“The best CRPG since BG2” I enjoyed hearing this, and I think there is a good case to be made, even if best is subjective. BG3 is an absolutely great successor to BG1&2. The BG series does an amazing job of giving you the feeling of playing in a really epic DND campaign. It does not live in your head the way a great TTRPG campaign does, but in its league it is absolutely at the top. The elder scrolls games were always an interesting counterpoint to the old Bioware BG & IWD games. BG & IWD were campaign simulators. TES games were fantasy world simulators.
There is a Hotbar Options under the Interface Tab in the Options menu. Turn ALL OFF by doing so only the actions you put will stay. This is one of the first things I do when creating a new game. I hope this helps. ✌
Looked up your controller vs keyboard comparison a while back when I picked up the game. Finally completed the first playthrough and now I'm back here for the second run... with customized radial in-mind. I had enough tolerating with my skills and items are all over the place, especially when i change spells and weapons. 😂
I've _never_ enjoyed using a controller for CRPGs and similar. *But* Larian figured it all out! I'm surprised to find that I actually mostly *prefer* using a controller with this game. Which is great because I love using my Steam Deck hand held.
You got yourself a sub and viewer brother!! Deeply appreciate the controller guides especially to a brand new player like me.. keep it up brother and again thank yoi😎😎👍
Just started my first ever run of Baldur's on ps5, got roughly 5 hours in and I hadn't noticed that I could customize the radials...silly I know... anyway thanks for the info, I can finally manage it 😅😅😅
Is there a way to move an entire Radial wheel around (shifting it’s orders)? Every time I create a new Raidal, it automatically becomes the new first in the order (which I don’t like) :/
So I just moved into my new house and got a new big TV and wanted to finish BG3 by playing in my living room on the couch. So I decided to buy it for the PS5 and try the controller. So I loaded up my cross save from Act 3 and wow. I have like 50 radials automatically set up. I'm thinking of deleting them all and recreating the stuff that was just on the hotbar on PC because this is wayyyy too much. I hope I can get used to the controls after playing with the keyboard for so long.
Having fun so far. My brother decided to be the rogue Ranger. So I decided to be a warrior so I can hit stuff. Half human half elf so I could have the fire ball spell for range.
@@Renfail playing with both of my brothers and one was skeptical but he’s having fun. But I think the trio will work out better than quads so we can do NPC quests.
You can, apart from the three core radials. That's the one on the left where every new spell/ability defaults to; the one to the right of that where you'll find stuff like push, throw, sneak, disengage, etc; and the one on the far right where all the usable items default to when you pick them up (if you have that active in the interface settings). So you can't delete those radials, but any new ones you make can be deleted whether there is something in them or not.
Hey great guide and I figured out pretty much all this my own but I need some help. For the life of cannot figure out how to move spells like moonbeam which have already been cast on following turns. The icons to do so simply don't exist as far as I can tell. Any assistance much appreciated
It's been awhile since I played, but if I remember when it comes your turn if you go to find the icon for the spell you cast which you want to move, it will be highlight and have like a move text over it
I have a question. My berserker barb, Karlach's radial wheel is all screwed up. I drunk added like 4 blank wheels. I managed to get rid of them, but her class abilities like Rampage/frenzy us gone, along with her attacks. I can only use regular wespon attacks. How do I get the wheel back? And or add abilities? I must have removed the radial wheel with her class and special attacks.
good place to put keys and pick locks / disarm traps instead of trying to find them in the character section. good video. you should have more subscribers so i added 1 more.
The remove radial doesn't seem to be an available option for me. I have cleared the radial entirely and the clear radial option is still dimmed out. Any suggestions?
Is there a way to lock the radial menu once you got it set how you want? I have all the auto add items in settings off. However when I throw a weapon or shape shift a ton of spells I don’t want on my menu reappear. I even switched to keyboard and hit the hot bar lock then changed back to controller but doesn’t help.
I need to get better at understnaidng when to use spells /cantrips / etc. Right now i find myself just basic melee or range attacking because im not sure when to use my spells. Or i cant use them at all for some reason.
I'm baffled that you never see a need to add radials. How are you casting spells then? On my wizard, I have a radial for my spells of each level and a few for the out-of-combat spells, otherwise finding them is a pain. Is there something I'm overlooking for how to access spells without them being on radials?
the issue is every slot doesn't permanently remain the same, and it doesn't put the actions back where you set them. so when you switch weapons or something (like to your torch and back, or switch amulets) it puts the abilities on the default radial in the next available slot. if you didn't know, you can actually remove entire radials (even if they're not empty) you can't remove the three default ones. by default the game auto-adds everything. you can change what it auto-adds in options. it'll always add actions/spells.
@@ciejeoh I’ll need to look for that option so it doesn’t add scrolls and potions and stuff by default. Been playing on pc and now trying ps5. For scrolls and potions I’m adding those things into their own pouches and then linking the pouch to the radial menu. That’s keeping it pretty concise
@@cieje the auto-adding actions and spells is the bane of my existence. A huge part of casters' power in BG3 is being able to change prepared spells at any time out of combat, and doing so keeps jumbling my radials. I want all my spells to be on radials, prepared or not, and stay where I put them, otherwise how tf am I supposed to find them without beating my head against the wall
This video was/is useful. I'm already making changes to my first BG3 playthrough on Xbox with information I learned. There's something missing however, sometimes when I select a thing in my R-menu, a little dot appears below it. What is that? Do I want it? Further information please.
@@Renfail Thanks for responding and so quickly. What I'm referring to is a little white dot that appears between the picture that represents, let's say Eldritch Blast, and the center of the dial. Sometimes a plus symbol will be seen in this same spot. I can make the white dot appear or disappear depending on how I click on the spell. But I don't know what it's for, what the little dot is trying to bring my attention to. (I haven't figured out what the plus symbol is for either)
Great video! Do you know if there is anyway to customise the radial with keyboard and mouse? I spent ages doing this with my controller but lost the progress so am hoping I can do it again but faster with keyboard and mouse! 😅
there is no radial with mouse and keyboard; instead you have hotkeys. And yes, they are fully customizable. Here's how: ruclips.net/video/0aSo8HWt-8E/видео.html
I'm playing Baldur's Gate 3 with a controller. I'd like to know if there's a way to check which spells are already in the radial menu. When I get new spells, I don't know which ones I've already added to the radial menu and which ones I haven't. I have to go through all of them and sometimes I end up with duplicates, thinking a spell isn't present in my radial menu list.
Does anyone know how to move Hunters mark using controller, seems to use a spell slot once hunt completed to move it, is there a different slot for moving it or is it a bug?
Quick question - when I use up on the dpad to bring the torch out my character doesn’t his shield out so when I swap it back he’s now two-handed which is not ideal. Any way to fix this?
Thanks for this. I'm still only at Level 4, and the radial menus have already been driving me crazy. Also, from one of your earlier videos, I picked up the D-pad shortcuts for the jump and hide abilities, so thanks for those, too. Much appreciated. Speaking of the D-pad, is there a way to assign different abilities to the up and down buttons? (Not sure I want to at this stage, but discovering them has made me wonder!)
on pc you can if you make the controller a Steam controller, and launch with Big Picture Mode. any button can be reassigned to any other controller button.
Oh man, you have no idea how bad it can get. My characters are about level 10 now, I modded the game, then respecced my entire party. Not to mention I have a mod to remove the party limit so I’m playing with like a party of 8. All of whom’s scroll wheels are a disaster. Fun times! Shame I don’t like playing on mouse and keyboard and don’t know whether the MMO interface would actually work out better in the long run.
The radial Menzies are driving me crazy! Once you get more than level 3 spells, it becomes a hot mess! I wish there were customisable categories for each radial menu e.g. level 2 spells, bonus actions,
@@Renfail What I mean is, I wish there were options to select a category for each radial menu, such as level 1 spells and then the game would auto-fill with your prepared spells, rather than having to manually add every level 1 spell into the radial menu.
We really should have been allowed to customize option for a traditional menu. Radial just seem whimsical. You don't know how many time I've lost track of something because of the wheel shift of the radial.
This game needs some sort of intuitive logical auto generate system for radials. Spending like 1 hour just for one character's radial setup and knowing I have to do 3 more times in my party was so demoralizing I just quit the game. Hoping they add some feature at some point that makes it better.
I haven't had any issues at all and have barely spent more than 10 minutes on the menus in 100+ hours of gameplay, and that was mostly me doing it for this video LOL
if you select either ranged attack or melee attack, regardless of whether you have the actions for it, you'll swap to the weapon you have equipped for that type of attack. It's super important to end each turn with your melee weapon out to enable opportunity attacks
@@Renfail With that attitude and an inability to take feedback, I can see how you ended up making a 13 minite video about something that can be explained in 2. All the best.
Game is far too difficult for people who have not played D and D or turn based games. Not intuitive at all. If it was on a disc I would be selling it now. Is my life so meaningless that I have to continue this boredom and hell.
The radial menus are neither quick nor easy. Try changing spells or gear and it messes up very very quickly. However this got past QA is beyond me. What makes it's even more annoying is when you set a slot, the menu it gives you to find the skill is perfectly organised. So they have the means to sort the menu, they just didn't feel like linking those two systems. The worst bit of the game by far. Skill management is a huge admin task that didn't need to exist. One flaw in an otherwise near perfect game.

Hey @Renfail, what's the armor you have equipped on your character at 8:16? Thanks for the tips!!
Some of my own tips:
1) In the interface settings, you can disable items being added to the radial menu automatically. That helps with the clutter. You can do this on an item type basis, so can choose what kind of item you want added automatically or not
2) You can assign equipable items to the radial menu, for quick switching.
Stuff that is specific to a weapon, or spells you replace often, put them in the default wheel (so the one just left of the wheel that has throw, disengage, sneak,... on it)
Of course, no need to do this if you still have plenty of room on the default radial.
9) Don't put javelins in the radial menu for throwing. Clicking them will just equip them as a melee weapon.
Yep, these are just five tips. There are a million other things, which is why I have lots of other guides covering all the things!

So conceivably, I can clear out all radials, and then go through the list and place everything where I want, one item at a time...
If you want :)
the issue is every slot doesn't permanently remain the same, and it doesn't put the actions back where you set them.
so when you switch weapons or something (like to your torch and back, or switch amulets) it puts the abilities on the default radial in the next available slot.
if you didn't know, you can actually remove entire radials (even if they're not empty) you can't remove the three default ones.
by default the game auto-adds everything. you can change what it auto-adds in options. it'll always add actions/spells.
@@Ythari82 it's under "interface"
I have no frame of reference so I'm not sure to what you are referring (the little dot).
I have to go through all of them and sometimes I end up with duplicates, thinking a spell isn't present in my radial menu list.
never had that issue
Does anyone know how to move Hunters mark using controller, seems to use a spell slot once hunt completed to move it, is there a different slot for moving it or is it a bug?
When you have it applied, open up your radial at your next turn, you should see a special version of hunter's mark that can be moved.
Quick question - when I use up on the dpad to bring the torch out my character doesn’t his shield out so when I swap it back he’s now two-handed which is not ideal.
Any way to fix this?
That's the rules
How do you move/ recast spells like Moonbeam on the PS5?
With the controller.
How do you know if a tog gable slot is on or off
it has a toggle that says so
I’m on ps5 and I don’t know if it’s switched on or off ( if it’s white is it on or off)
Thanks for this.
I'm not aware of D-pad customization, but I haven't felt the need to, so I can't say with absolute certainty!
on pc you can if you make the controller a Steam controller, and launch with Big Picture Mode. any button can be reassigned to any other controller button.
I wish there were customisable categories for each radial menu e.g. level 2 spells, bonus actions,
There are. You simply have to set them up.
@@Renfail What I mean is, I wish there were options to select a category for each radial menu, such as level 1 spells and then the game would auto-fill with your prepared spells, rather than having to manually add every level 1 spell into the radial menu.
But how do you prevent the game from ruining your radials after every battle or new equip?
They stay the way you put them if you don't use the defaults.
We really should have been allowed to customize option for a traditional menu. Radial just seem whimsical. You don't know how many time I've lost track of something because of the wheel shift of the radial.
You can do so on the mouse/keyboard layout if you prefer that way. This is the console layout. There are both. Pick the one you want :)
the primary radial change randomdly that I dont know why
odd
I enjoy using the controller as a mouse pointer.
Some folk do
omg, 500 hours of game later i discover that, thank you world, i'm the dumbest
Enjoy lol
Tahank you
This game needs some sort of intuitive logical auto generate system for radials.
You're Awesome
Yes I am
you gotta be from MD, right?
have no idea where that is
Nice video, I've found the wasd movement mod is the best of both worlds for me. I just cant stand the controller in combat.
Fair enough :)
Tried controller. Couldn't figure out a way to swap between my ranged and melee weapons.
It's right there. Melee attack or ranged attack. You can see the yellow/orange icons for arrow/sword. Viola
if you select either ranged attack or melee attack, regardless of whether you have the actions for it, you'll swap to the weapon you have equipped for that type of attack. It's super important to end each turn with your melee weapon out to enable opportunity attacks
I just need to know “ How to open the dam menu on PS5”. Can’t assume everyone knows everything!
I REALLY wish there were a way to lock the radials. Redoing them after a respec is super annoying.
yeah that's not going to likely happen given that you are changing the class and redoing 100% of the abilities.
I don't respec, so I can't speak to that. I play the characters how they come out of the box. @joshuahenderson3345
@@Renfail That's admirable, actually!
Nice video but...even as a controller guy...honestly this seems like way more trouble than it's worth...lol..
Nah
Controller was much better in Divinity 2
Nah
Video starts at 3:32 .
Wrong.
@@Renfail I literally got my answer at that mark and clicked off the video. The entire introduction was a waste of time.
Sounds like a you problem, not a me problem.@@knifeofdunwall
@@Renfail With that attitude and an inability to take feedback, I can see how you ended up making a 13 minite video about something that can be explained in 2. All the best.
Oh yeah, 100% a you problem, not a me problem.@@knifeofdunwall
Game is far too difficult for people who have not played D and D or turn based games. Not intuitive at all. If it was on a disc I would be selling it now. Is my life so meaningless that I have to continue this boredom and hell.
QQ
Shouldnt be this complicated. Rare L for larion.
And yet it's not complicated. That's a you problem :)
Sounds like a you problem, not a me problem, to be honest. I don't have any of those issues.
The radial menus are a fucking mess. I hate combat in this game so much because of it (Xbox series X)
Not me.
