When I paid off my car I made pretend car payment to my savings
Smart! I was thinking of doing this the other day so I'm less tempted to wait and spend it.
That way I had the money for a new car. I was used to paying it do I didn’t miss it and made interest instead of paying it
@@nancysmith2874 do you invest in the stock market or just put it in savings account?
My friend when she paid off her mortgage she still used the money she was paying every month on her mortgage paid into another account and saves it x
I took my car payment and made an extra principle payment to my mortgage every month
My dad always said, "Buy the best you can afford."
If you buy the cheapest, you'll be replacing it many times.

Than you for saving me 13:45 minutes!
Sounds like a really sad and joyless life
How Harsh. Just because it doesn't fit your lifestyle why be so mean?
Remember what Mom said???
If you can't say anything nice...
Karma....
Well, I guess that I'm doing great. I don't buy any of these. I stopped buying these about 4 years ago. I just use what I have.🤷🏾 I also stopped buying gifts. I make cards online and email them. I've asked everyone not to buy me any gifts as I have too much stuff in my closets.
An Egg McMuffin at my local McDonald's costs $4.50. For that price I can buy a pack of 12 English muffins, 12 eggs, a pack of cheese, and a package of Canadian bacon. My local diner charges $9.00 for a freshly made waffle. I can make one at home in my waffle iron for about 25 cents.
That would cost 30 in New Zealand as huge food price
@@karenbolton9526 I don't know where he lives but in Orlando, that would be over $20. closer to $25.
Where do you live? Sounds impressively cheap
Those items would cost about $8 here in NWArkansas, but make six meals for my husband and I.
That would cost alot more in the Chicago burbs
I agree with almost everything on your list but one huge standout for me: I have to have home decor. I cannot live with blank walls, without lamps, without beauty in my home. But I buy preowned: garage sales, estate sales, thrift stores. Sometimes clearance sales.
Agree!! Little dollar tree things make me happy. Pumpkins candles little signs etc. gotta have it
Joanna Gaines? She does mostly decor items that are seasonless and timeless (will vary with your taste). Just adjust florals, plants, blankets, etc to adjust seasonal colors and temperature changes.
Me either I need it to be homey and you can decorate very inexpensively
That's the way to go lol.
Yes, I agree. I can't live in an institution setting.
My husband and I tried Saturday afternoon dates instead of date night. So we go on a hike, a canoe, or something free that encourages getting along and communicating
Yep!the better things in life are for free!!😊
A great idea and also a find u tend to speak more conversation
I love this! We try to do this too! Life gets so busy and sometimes the best times are our chats. Add something fun, and you’ve got a winner. I love watching movies, but not for “date night.” I want to talk and goof around, and laugh!
We do sometimes go to a matinee in the winter, but we sit in the back row. 😉😉
What a lovely idea. I bet there would be more successful marriages if couples did what you do.
My husband and I go to the Zoo and on a picnic afterward. It's not a date night, but an activity during the day. We have no children.
In our first house (1980), it came with an old washer & dryer (such luxury after apartment living!). I kept a coffee can on the dryer, and deposited money in with every use, to equal what a laundromat would have cost. When full, it went into a savings account. When we had to replace them, that little habit paid for the new pair. I kept up that practice for many years.
sounds like my parents, who were depression babies.
I love that idea. Very cool.
Cool. I have never been able to do that BUT when I do get paid, I pay the church and our bank account first.
I remember we got used WD from uncle I was so excited have my own washer I sat & watched it do 1st load or 2 . Sad. Fun besides no money to do anything else haha
@@pegasus514 My folks grew up during the depression, and I learned many fiscal lessons from them.
I don't buy anything from Amazon, not one single thing, I started boycotting them about 5 years ago for many, many very good reasons and haven't missed them. I don't buy merchandise, i.e. cups, sweatshirts etc that someone has had printed up on cheap products.
Me too ! My friend worked for them many many many years ago and was treated like utter crap - I bought from amazon once in my life and never did again
I don’t support amazon until Jeff starts paying taxes
neither do i...nor...do i shop at wal-mart....no need for starbucks, cupcakes, or some other 'cool' spot to see and be seen in. i eat every meal at home, brew my own coffee. i drive a near thirty year old car. BUT...with what i save i visit New Orleans and San Juan, Puerto Rico every year. Why make those places (wal-mart, amazon, starbucks) i mentioned richer? They're not making me rich.....
yassss i hate Amazon even if its cheap. If the brand has its own website, I buy directly from there instead of Amazon.
I don't buy from Amazon either and never will. Jeff Bezos doesn't need my money. He doesn't exactly treat his employees fairly.
Fashion is what you love not what everyone else loves. I've got clothes 10 years old that I still love. So who cares what someone else thinks is fashionable.
I agree with you 💯.
True, never kept up with Ms.Jones fashions, I love what I love no matter how odd, or old it is..Anyway it comes back around..lol Iam Eclectic, so I make it all work...
@@maryh.2729 o
Well said 👏👌, me also do that♥️💪
I agree it what’s makes u feel comfortable. It’s your taste not anyone else’s.
Donate stuffed animals to your.local animal shelter or rescue! You'd be amazed- our rescued, battered, scarred up pitbulls are very comforted by their stuffed toys.
My pittie LOVES stuffed animals and anything soft that's comforting. Definitely consider giving them to a shelter if there's one near you!
I get them in charity shops for next to nothing, along with throws, towels etc, they give you them for next to nothing when you tell them it's for another charity here. One told me oh we collect the stuffed toys we get and send them to the local dog rescue🙏🙏
You can also give them to shelters where kids might be "homed" for a period of time. Frequently they land there or in foster care without any of their previous toys & need something to give comfort. Or you can give to a firestation for the same reason....
What a good idea. I never thought of that.
Great idea thank you.
Finally! Someone who has sensible advice without being pretentious.
It's incredible how little you really NEED when you live a sensible life. When you prioritise a clean house and cooking proper food from scratch, you live a full and satisfying life. Prioritising trinkets and 'stuff' at the expense of family time is a poor way to live.
I feel RICH if I have money in my pocket to offer to someone I meet and I can offer to buy them a soda or a cup of coffee. It's just something simple that makes me "feel" rich. How silly am I?
❤❤❤
Not at all🙏🙏
I connect with that.
Not silly at all.
I love you. I do this in alot of different ways. The feeling I hey is far more important to me then money in the bank.
I think the message is “Everything in moderation.” I personally wouldn’t spend $20/day on lunch or more than Target prices for a bike, but I have pictures on my walls and scented candles on my table and that’s what makes ME happy. I love saving money on groceries and laundry pods, but I will still continue to use Tide and drink Starbucks when I feel the need. This list is pretty extensive, but no one should feel like they have to cut out every little pleasure in life to be successful.
You're living the Tonya - Christine way. That's wonderful!!
🙂💐😺
I am sooooooooooo with you......I will save and be frugal but allow myself little pleasures.
@@lubas4945 I am totally going to quote you. :D this was stated so eloquently!
Yeah having my home decorated how I like makes it an escape for me from the stressors of the world and I love to garden so plants are a most. Life is hard and short..you have to enjoy it before it is over
@:41ish she says this. You both are on the same page
I love house plants! I don’t buy decorations because my plants are my decorations. But I’m a green thumb and have a huge functioning garden we eat from year around. So my plants outside save me money on food.
Great! You have fresh what you enjoy and don't have to watch for sales!!!
I also propagate plants
Inside plants are good for your health and they make your home look nice.
Love plants 🪴
I clean houses and grew all my plants from starters my clients gave me. A lot of them just throw away mums and poinsettias.
GREAT TIPS!
My husband & I never paid interest on any purchase in our entire 52 yr marriage. The exception was our home which we also paid off 10years early.
We lived on a strict monthly budget & each of us invested 15% of our income in a retirement fund.
We were still able to travel, raise our family & live comfortably.
Moved from north to south yrs ago & feel blessed everyday that we were able to set goals & meet them.
We are made from the same "cloth" as they say. Been married 51 years and have always paid credit card in full every month. In fact, the first time we applied for a credit card in around 1973/4 we were refused one. No borrowing history except mortgage.
That is my DREAM!
As I have gotten older, the things that used to matter to me no longer do. GREAT video!
Same! I don’t have to have STUFF to be happy and content.I love plants and flowers on the outside, my yard is so beautiful, my husband and I did it ourselves, I grow flowers from seeds, and I buy a some annuals, 4 coleus, 4 wave petunias, 2 ferns.
We grow a small, small garden. My husband does all our yard work, push mower, I can make 4 meals and broth from 1 chicken. I love being frugal, my husband too. We get our personal items and household items, make up from cvs couponing and extra care bucks. Almost no money OOP for that! Saves $1000’s a year.no manicures for me! Simple is BEST!!
We’re debt free, except for the house which is worth double what we owe on it.
I wish for you long happy life
I liked the jewelry one - I have a simple but high quality gold and silver sets, but otherwise for daily use (and really ever), that's about as much as I want to think about jewelry. I think a lot of these points aren't just about money, but investing any of your assets (including time, attention) where it has the most value for you personally.
So true! I would be a millionaire now if I had been this way when young.
That is very true.
Two sets of sheets per bed are optimal. They actually wear out slower if you alternate, so two sets will last more than twice as long.
Plus, if you’re tired and don’t want to wash the dirty set today, you still have tomorrow to do them if you have a second set to put on the bed today.
I have two sets per bed as well and it means I don't have to put them in the dryer, because they don't have to be dry the same day. Definitely they last longer this way.
I’m not sure that makes sense…. If I have one bed sheet and use it for 1 year and I have two sheets for another bed which are used for 6 months each, I am pretty sure that the amount of wear on the 1 sheet set will be double of the other two. That’s just mathematically correct. Taking off a set and swapping it does not magically add life to the sheet….
I totally agree! Plus, it’s nice to have two on the off chance that something crazy happens (drink spilled, stomach bug accident, or other bodily accident…yes I went there😅)
We do the two sheets as well, but instead we have a nice cotton set for the warmer months and a flannel set for cold months. We also went with nicer sets instead of a really cheap ones, they have lasted years and are still like new.
No offense to you, but I NEED decor, pictures and lamps.. I need faux plants. You need at least an extra set of sheets, less wear and tear and what if you have an accident like from the stomach flu, not trying to be graphic.. I treat myself to a Starbucks Frappachino once a month.. I have to somewhat agree with you in Fast food, but my hubby and I have a “date night” twice a month meaning dinner and a movie, it works for us ❤️
Discounts, I agree, I try too as well as much as possible. Birthday and Christmas gifts, yeah that one, I’m scaling back too now because I can’t afford it much anymore. I have 7 children and 24 grandchildren, I buy for my kids and my youngest grand babies and it works. I do send out cards though because I enjoy that and you can get inexpensive ones at the Dollar store.. I’ve gotten rid of many purses/wallets and shoes as well.
I love hearing people talk about stuff like this!
Frugality is where it's at. Spread the word 🙏🙂
I love being frugal. I am right now making a bean and cheese quasidilla which costs about 50 cents
@@leannsmreker3201 Now that's what you want.

$40 a day on lunch is insane ! I could eat for a week on that amount of money.
I suppose it depends on what your salary is though she never mention what type of work the person does if I earn $200,000 a year it wouldn't bug me to spend that much on food because my time is worth it

I have a rice cooker. Don’t have an instant pot. Every house is indeed different. Finally purged the unused blender. Yay!
@@MilwaukeeWoman cooks the less expensive rice and tastes better than instant rice. It pays for itself.
Love my rice cooker. Would not have a pressure cooker (aka instant pot). Set those things up wrong and BOOM! Maybe they have safely features now, but still not for me
Home Decor is a MUST!! For me at least because it makes me happy and it makes a home my own!! But home decor does not have to be expensive! Little holiday decor can be very very cheap if you build it up little by little every year and go clearance shopping after every holiday and store them for the next year
Also, I get decor as hand me downs from my mom and mother-in-law. They love to give things away that they're not using. I have a box of cookie cutters from them that I truly enjoy using. I don't have a lot of anything, but I have a little box for each season and I'm happy to see all that stuff.
I love lamps! Left to my own devices, I never use overhead lights. I don’t like the ambiance of them. I’ll have eight lamps in a room instead, thank you very much! 😅
(But I buy mine from thrift stores and then spray paint the bases to make them match, so I think that ought to count…)
@@MilwaukeeWoman - I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😄
My kids like to fall asleep to lamps being on. We tried flash lights but then they burn up the batteries. So I resorted to getting the 60 to 100 lumen solar path lights from HomeDepot of Lowes. They have rechargeable lithium batteries. Place these outside in the day and bring in at night. Great emergency lighting and who cares if the kids leave then on all night....plus they won't burn down the house. Get one for every person in your household.
I absolutely hate overhead lights. I never use them.
For sure.2nd hand but a new cheap lamp.x
same.
Some of this is about excess, yes. However, my space is where I'm happy so I do have a pillows, a few ornaments and tasteful pictures. It is pleasant to walk into. I treat my classroom the same way so that my students have a cosy space.
Her husband is so lucky, she is the perfect wife. She is beautiful, smart, active, a lovely wife, practical and is not materialistic. I think if she was a millionaire she would still be minimalist and never selfish. I am a fan of this channel.

With the current state of the US dollar ($1.00 worth $0.50 by 2030) this is a priceless lesson on how to survive with a family on what you have. My husband and I went with the Dave Ramsey envelope system and paid off both cars, student loans, and two credit cards within the first 4 years of marriage. We are still debt free with up to 2 years food storage, water filtration systems, personal protection, home backup power, and stockpiles of emergency gear for all seasons. The freak winter of 2021 in Texas just ramped up our preparedness plans. And I get to be a stay-at-home mother to our 2 year old.
Trust me! Scrimping and saving to stay home with your child/children is worth all the money in the world.
Daycares and babysitters have been raising the majority of US citizens for decades. This is so detrimental to a society and we are seeing the results of what it does now.
Folks are too busy to 1. Truly instill values or correct behaviors that are being learned at daycare. Too busy to to pay attention to policies our government is pushing through while we are busy spending our $$ and paying taxes on taxes. Too busy trying to regroup from work place drama.
I could go on- if you get it- you get it.
Walk with Jesus Christ daily and you’ll never want for anything and never get lost.
@@BlindFaith777 preach! 🙌🏻
Wat is dave Ramsey envelope system am curious
I love pictures and mirrors. Have many paintings and beautiful Tiffany lamps. Makes my Hause cozy. To each it’s own
I can agree on basically everything except the ending trick or treating at 12. Kids don't get to be kids for long let them enjoy the little things like dressing up and going around to collect candy once a year. If a 30 year old man in costume showed up at my house on Halloween you best believe he's getting candy.
I'm with you there. Halloween is just plain fun and i have no problen with older kids trick or treating.
Agree 100%. Same with all holiday stuff and why I will always decorate for holidays. Have kids from 14 to 31. My older ones always came trick or treating with their younger siblings. Life will be full of responsibility, stress, disappointments and heartaches enough, so anytime they can feel that joy and excitement, I want them always to have and grab it in life. I always tried to teach and create that in the home, but then my husband/their dad died suddenly, and they learned firsthand you better grab those moments and special days which give you joy because it is what matters in the end and we don't get them back.
Thank you! You never know what has gone on in a child / young adult's life. Maybe they never got experience it, maybe they have been very sick and always missed out. It may look odd, but maybe that kid just needed a little fun for one night.
As long as the kid is truly trick or treating and not causing mischief
Halloween is Satanic, look it up
$800 a month on lunch!! Thats most peoples rent haha, I guess to each there own but wow! I agree with everything, except the home décor, I personally NEED my space to reflect myself, I surround myself with things that make me smile but I also get almost all of it for free or under $10, I actually buy things and sell them for a living haha so I'm the deal queen! I Love your channel, thanks for sharing all your tips!! =]
My rent is almost 1600.00 🥴😭 for a studio I need to move please anyone advice 🙏
Rice cooker is amazing! Saves SO much time and it’s perfect rice every time. I got one at Walmart for like $10 about 8 years ago and it’s still going strong :D
I know they are super useful!!
However, I got a fancy expensive asian brand as a Christmas gift last Christmas 2020 and it was almost 300 dollars!! I wanted to tell the gifter to return and just give me the money/cash!! 😁But they wanted me to take it..so fine.😭
Ditto. I had an old Aroma rice cooker. It made great rice. I gave it to one of my children when he moved out.
@@Grrrrrrr123 a rice cooker is much faster and never fails to make perfect rice, and I don't have to watch it, it will turn off by itself when the rice is ready. I often need to throw the food in the instant pot and rice cooker to get cooking while I go put the kids in the bath.
I used my rice cooker till I got an instant pot and instant pots makes really good rice. I didn't get rid of my rice cooker because sometimes I'm using my instant pot for other things but the rice cooker/instant pot is awesome. Just turn on the switch and forget it.
I can’t to live without a rice cooker
I never dislike posts, but I find that a home without any decor is cold. It’s really easy to run by the thrift store and find a few things to make our homes feel homey or pleasant. I have been to homes that are blank walls with no personal elements and I can’t wait to leave.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Thank you so much for being the 1 (one) American channel I watch who does NOT use disposable water bottles, paper plates etc, and disposable cutlery!! Thank you.i can't believe how many adults in your country drink and eat from paper and plastic on a daily basis! What's wrong with eating every meal from reusable crockery or glass and washing it up afterwards. Again thank you from me in NZ, where unless we are hosting a huge number of people we wouldn't dream of buying disposable products and certainly not for daily use.
Me either! Even for picnics we use my Correll dishes.
I do buy seasonal paper goods for the annual Halloween night "Dinner in the Drive" we host for neighbors. We serve chili and sandwiches to about 60 people...paper/plastic it will be. I buy next year's supply when they are 70% to 80% off after Halloween.

Great video. I try only buying items that add value to my life. I'm no longer "cheap".
'Afford Anything' is TERRIFIC podcast, love Paula.
I started out as a minimalist and now we are going to one income so now it’s to be frugal. So happy to find your channel❤️
I enjoyed your video. It would bother me not having anything on my walls, and I don’t like white walls as it is so sterile and cold. It looks like you just moved into your house without any pictures on your walls. You can decorate for very little, if you are creative (or find a creative friend). I also don’t feel the need to redo and will only buy something if it is right, basically I will wait till I find the right item even if it takes years to fill that spot and once I find it, I don’t redo. You will find the same curtains in my house for 25+ years as well as most other items. The info about the bikes was helpful. Thanks!
I agree. Her house looks very sterile and cold....like an office. I love color and decor. God gave us color and decor in nature. Why not give ourselves some, too?
To some people decorating and decorations can be overwhelming and frankly cluttering. I prefer clean lines and less things around. It is calming to me. The more stuff around, the more I stress because it feels cluttered. I dislike lamps because once again stuff. Lights from the ceiling for me please. My point is, what one person feels is cold and uninviting is someone else's happy place.
YES for kids doing their own laundry!!! We started that when my kids were 9 and 11 years old and I will tell you why. In less than 2 weeks, we had a red crayon go through a white load of clothes and a purple crayon go through a red load. I. Was. Livid. I spent so much time and money getting crayon stains out of clothing and out of the inside of the dryer that I was just OVER IT. So you should have seen the boys' faces when I told them they were on their own with their laundry. They started to protest that they didn't know how to do it. Way ahead of ya, guys. This was a long time ago and I had my very first digital camera which was ONE megapixel LOL. So I took photos of the dials on the washer and the dryer, the detergent cup properly filled and then I got pictures of different kinds of clothing off the internet. I made a huge chart of this and that kind of clothes can be washed together and for this load, you use hot water and hot dry and for that kind of laundry, you use cold wash and low heat dryer, the whole thing. They looked over the chart and figured it all out. Now my boys are grown and married and their wives have thanked me for making them self-sufficient with household chores because they just share the laundry chores with no complaining and no helpless husband act.
I had to help my friends in their early 20s use their washing machine. Their parents went away and they'd never done their own washing
Nice one. I wish my husband had been taught about fabrics. He has dyed mine and my daughters clothes and ruined so many, that I have banned him from doing any washing except black clothes. We do have plenty of those. He is willing but unable to learn. Its too exhausting to teach him after 18 months. I am done.
I stopped separating laundry years ago. I wash everything on cold.
I love to do my sons laundry, to me it’s therapeutic.
My Dad took me with him to the laundromat since I was 8, so its hard for me to remember what life was like when I didn't have to do my own laundry. One time somebody left toothpicks in the dryer and it put holes in a bunch of our clothes, that was a bummer. :( We assumed they probly got holes in their own clothes, too. But please check your pockets, people!
Burt's Bees lip balm for me...I don't wear lipstick. I've noticed as I get older, 38 on Sunday, my makeup is very simple if I wear any.
You made a lot of sense, a lot of the stuff you do I do. The older I get I look for comfort, and minimal living. Thanks for sharing!!
But I do like my pillows....rice cooker... NO...
I spent ten dollars on fall decor from the discount section at Walmart. I love decor but I try to be very intentional with what I bring and I need it to be cohesive throughout the whole home. I’m a minimalist at heart - as much as I can with a husband and three boys from 2 to 7 😂
she is so animated and real i love this lady 😭💕
I have clothes that are 30 years old, & some older, & still look good.
Part of it is how to care for them & hanging up a good part of them instead of using the dryer or laying them flat to dry - those that require it.
I just pulled a dress out the other day that will pass for current & I made over 30 years ago....
Women's clothes are not as well constructed as men's clothes because they figure most women are going to follow the current fashion trend & only needs to last a year or two. If you can buy your pants & shirts from the men's dept. you will find that they will last longer (even the "cheap" tee shirts that are 3 for $12.00 or whatever they are currently) that a simular model from the women's dept. Plus you usually pay more in the women's dept than in the men's dept. Just what I've noticed in my 60 plus nearly 70 years. Have a good day.
You are absolutely right about the construction and prices of men's vs women's clothing
In the 80's my mom's cousin (20 yr. older than her, over 70+ then), wore a pair of pants made in the U.S. in the 1920's. They were one of his favorites, very comfortable and he told me that he was angry that he got some paint on them years before because he never expected to last so long (He lived in Norway, so I guess he was impressed with American products). I told him that quality like that didn't exist in the U.S. anymore. I thought it was a cool story though.
@@geniej2378 If you or if you have friend that sews, you could "taylor" them to fit.
My dad's mom taught ALL her "boys" to sew & cook & clean house. My dad made extra pocket money in WWII tayloring the uniforms to fit - he also got to be the officer's cook as he could make the food "taste good".
There are several YT channels thast deal with sewing, but there is one gal I watch who I believe is in Australia, that has online sewing classes as well as a brief speil that I catch when she comes up in my feed. I can't think of her name at the moment, if I do I'll try to come back here with it.
Her name is Evelyn Wood
Since I discovered Borax, I rarely if ever use liquid fabric softener or dryer sheets. It helps soften and deodorize without adding fragrance or reducing absorbency. Borax is natural, versatile and has many other cleaning uses! I also air dry most of my clothes and use my dryer primarily for sheets and towels. Line drying helps clothes last longer, and if you're doing multiple loads, it's more time efficient. You don't have to wait for a load to finish in the dryer before adding the next one - you can throw multiple loads on the line and take them down at one time later, and with fewer wrinkles.
My car is a 2004 Honda Element that I refuse to part with. I’m 64 years old so it may be the last car I ever own.
Learning how to delay gratification is the most important thing an adult can learn to do.
I am old enough to be your Grama and I have to say your advice is excellent. I live like you talk and not because I need to save money. Your logic is WONDERFUL to hear
Because I've always been frugal, I own multiple single family homes free and clear. I could buy precut fruit BUT it would kill me to pay the price.
plus, the pre-cut fruit sits in the juices too long and sometimes they taste weird.
I once had a client who owned a large california precut fruit company. Trust me, the people who buy his product made him a very wealthy man.
Loving the “don’t ever take my potato masher away from me”! As someone who still uses the potato masher for multiple purposes, I am so the same way! Please don’t ever take it away from me lol
I've just decluttered mine! I realised that I use it maybe twice a year and it takes too much space
@@irinam8709 same, I just use a fork and it gets the job done.
My mom used the potato masher as a child attitude modifier!
I just use a whisk lol. If the potatoes aren't cooked enough then it makes sense to use a masher.
I feel the same about my potato masher. I use it for other foods too. When I am served “whipped” potatoes I want to puke. The texture is like nursing home or baby food from a jar.
Stopped going out years before covid.... Saved a fortune and improved my health and lost weight.
I have an Instant Pot but also got a rice maker too, and I'm sooo happy with the rice cooker. I use it several times a week. I make rice or yellow corn grits in the morning and we eat it for lunch with eggs or leftover meats and veggies from the garden. I make cracked oatmeal and it turns out perfectly and eat it 2-3 mornings in a row. The rice cooker cleans up with just a quick wipe and rinse, vs. the Instant Pot, which needs to be soaked and scrubbed to clean off those starches.
Did you know you can buy Chic-Fil-A sauce is a squirt bottle at the grocery store now? 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
They don’t sell the buffalo sauce and it’s the BEST! So I ask for a few when I get a sandwich and save them for buffalo chicken quesadilla night :)
Standing ovation from me. You are brilliant and I love everything you brought out. I do love my perfume, though. At 63 I own my property, car, have no debt, 3 pensions from which to draw from, great health and God in my life. I learned the art of thrifting and buy quality ckassic items that stand the test of time. As I retired a year ago and have no need to dress for work, I still have clothes that I use and several good purses, etc. Hate clutter and all my furniture was purchased starting in 1994 Ethan Allen solid wood and still looks brand new. I decorate with thing that I still enjoy. Simple is great. I can go on,and on. Thanks for your video. Wish more people understood the impact caused to the earth of all the unnecessary junk we acquire and get rid of. Eating less is equivalent to better health. ❤❤❤. Own no memberships. Do pay for cellphone service. We can always ask ourselves, do I really need this? How long will I keep it, how will it be disposed of. I need to now shut up.
1:33 my mom calls these "dust collectors" 🤣.
I will also say that I am a big foodie so I could never remove dining out from my budget, but I always make an effort to go to places that I know I can't make better at home!
I have never purchased garbage bags. I have always recycled my grocery bags as garbage bags. I will always reuse grocery bags.
Where I live, we don't get grocery bags from most stores. You bring your own bag or buy a cloth bag from them,or just carry everything out in your hands. I've started buying garbage bags for the first time in my life!
I have to admit i love my egg cooker (5$ at Walmart) and my rice cooker ($18 at Walmart). Still use my blender and food processer all the time. No regrets
if you use them a lot then it is worth it....most do not tho. My mom owns every kitchen gadget on the planet and just uses a knife, skillet, cookie sheet, crockpot n micro...her kitchen is overstuffed and no place to sit...it's hilarious...no disrespect intended...she is awesome. I just dont get needing all of that junk
When they were on sale, I spend $20 on a BJ/Costco size dryer sheet box and I've had it for over a year. I do not regret this purchase lol
Thats what I do, buy the huge size of it, and kitchen trash bags.
I love the wrinkle free ones..& they're hugh! I cut in half ;)
@@rms5993 Yessssss then you only have to buy garbage bags once a year!
@@wendydelaney2790 Exactly! I hate having to buy the same things time after time in the store so often I could reuse the same list!
I have cut down on trash bags, I have put cheap dollar tree waste baskets, the small ones, into my trash cans in the kitchen and bath. I line them with the plastic bags from the grocery store.
One good tip I know I've been doing for years to save $ is to put my clothes in the dryer for like 5 minutes to get all the wrinkles out. Then I hang them on coat hangers or on the clothes line. If you don't have a clothesline this works great for me. In the winter especially when it's cold I'll hang them up at night on the shower rod in the bathroom or on the back of my bar stools. They're definitely dry in no time. I've been saving a ton of money on gas bills for years doing this. And I do get dryer sheets when they're on sale you can always use coupons or buy them cheap at one of the dollar stores. Yes I do reuse my dryer sheets they're not just a one-time use.
Adding a dry towel to a load of wet towels or clothes cuts dryer time to 1/3.
My mom did pretty much the same. When she sold the farm and moved to town, HOA said no clotheslines, so Mom strung a couple lines in her garage and opened the garage door.
I buy the pre cut fruit and veg when traveling only so I can still eat healthy without a kitchen!
LOL! Rice cooker is a necessity for our family; masher is a luxury for us. I am still amazed at how different it is for everyone to prioritize things.
I hear you on eating out and portion size! My hubby and I recently went out to dinner for his birthday. The cost was through the roof! Neither of us ate much, after the dinner salad, there just wasn’t room for anything else. We took home what we didn’t eat, and had lunch and dinner the next day from those leftovers. Hate spending money like that
I agree the same is with my hubby and I we split a meal w h e n we do go out.
@@connie894 That is smart. I wish we had thought of it!
We almost always split an entree and maybe get an extra salad.
@@bethheerten1132 so smart! We don’t go out often, but I’ll try to remember this for next time. I just love to prepare and cook meals, and I drag my feet to eat out. But it was a special birthday. You know how it is🤣
I order from the dollar menu or get the cheapest thing
I'm to the point in my life where I'm spending more money on purpose lol! I've been frugal my whole life and have a lot of money. My goal is to spend it before I die and leave nothing to my kids. I love my kids but I put them through college and they are WAY richer than I was at their age. Also they tell me to spend it, they don't want it. AND they especially don't want my stuff. After saying that I still don't like wasting money. That will always bother me.
Getting the cold brew at Starbucks for less than $5 at the grocery store and just picking out a creamer is way more economical than actually going to the Starbucks and waiting in line and paying money for it daily.
I moved into an studio apartment when I became single. The building was built in 1926. No elevator. Window AC. Wall furnace. Laundry in the basement. I live on the third floor. The washers/dryers are expensive so I do my laundry at my mother's apartment 2 blocks around the corner. Since the building is so old, electrical outlets are few and far between soooo....I don't have any small kitchen appliances other than a coffee maker and a microwave....and my life is just fine! What do I pay for all of this? $500.00/month and that INCLUDES my utilities. My artwork and "things" are roadside or dumpster finds. My fancy pictures came from Dollar Tree. LOL I do just fine and I'm happy with what I have.
Teresa sounds great glad you're in an affordable comfortable place.

I went to Burger King a few weeks ago (haven't had it in a year) and ordered 1 meal (medium size).
It was almost $12. I double-checked because I thought I was charged for 2 meals. Definitely not tasty for $12.
I am with you on the Chick-fil-a sauce. My whole family loves it!! I buy the big bottles at Walmart.
My parents were very frugal. We lived at a poverty level. It took me some growing up to understand that they kept most money for themselves. We as three girls growing up had NOTHING. No money allowance no wardrobe no outings n miserable food that my mother cooked so we would have something to eat. We were hungry all the time. We resented them . None of the three of us copy their STYLE. Even now that they are long gone I have memories that hurt
BTW I have silk plants n flowers bc I live in an appt. Yes I have to dust it but I love how they look
The way you preach attracts other people like you. The may
The majority of people do not live like you
I am a college student and I do half of these things. It's helped me save so much money in just the past year. My friends always tell me i'm so "lucky" to have money in my bank account and be able to buy necessities and occasional nice things. But in reality i'm just VERY conscious about spending money while they don't think twice about wasting $80 on their nails every month and buying $6 coffees every day.
YOU ARE INDEED VERY WISE!! KEEP. UP YOUR GOOD HABBITS!!
I’m with you on the gifts for extended family. We started a few years ago a secret Santa type system. At thanksgiving we all pick one name and only buy for that person and we decide on a budget that everyone is comfortable with and stick to it.
Same. We do secret santa also which saves us heaps of money and pick a budget we are all comfortable with. This also prevents buying unnecessary stuff if you were to buy for 10 adults at one time.
We stopped exchanging with extended family...postage costs was a big factor. And we put in a $5 limit to Christmas gifts...it slowly crept up to $10 due to inflation. Challenging but actually fun.
Same with my family
We started a secret Santa system many years ago when one of our family hit hard times , been doing it ever since, less stress all round. We all buy for the ‘children’ while us adults do secret Santa.
Works great if others don’t use the price limit as merely a suggestion. Say $10… spend $10. Not be gifted $10 and give something worth $4-$5. Gift exchange is not required, so if you choose to participate, spend fairly!!!
A sponge with fabric softener works amazing for the dryer
May I ask how you use the sponge? Do you soak it and squeeze it out? Or just throw it in soaked? I'm just wanting to try this!💖
Yeah I’m interested to know this too!
Throw pillows actually serve a real purpose especially on deep couches.
I only do one streaming subscription at a time. I watch what I want on that platform and when I feel I have watched everything I want on that one? I switch to another. I also think it's a waste of money to have more than one. Another tip (from a former banker) is that I have a credit card that earns points. We pay for everything we purchase during the week with that card. We add it up on Sunday and write a check to the account that is linked to that card. That is ALL we use that checking account for. Once a week, we add up how much we have spent and cut a check into that bank account. When it clears, we pay off the credit card. We save the points and use them for vacation spending every year.
I love these kind of lists. We reduced our eating out a few years ago and have saved so much! We shake our heads when we think about how much we spent 6 years ago eating out each month.
No dryer sheets ; no wool ball = tons of electric shock when you take your clothes out lol 😳😳😳😂😂
Christine - “ we’re not a video game family”
Me- welp ! I don’t belong here 😂😂
Same. I actually said to myself somewhere halfway through her list, Gee they sound like a lot of fun.. sarcasm. But in all seriousness her list is pretty awesome and helpful
Well it's possible to be a video game family where you use your console for everything on your tv and buy used games cheaply because you're a couple consoles behind. There's ways to be frugal and still have fun.

When we paid our house off I just automatically had that amount round up to the nearest hundredth and have it directly deposited into our savings account 😊
That way we have money for yearly property taxes, yearly property insurance, yearly car insurance, unexpected car breakdowns (cars are paid off also), vacations or any major purchases it doesn't come out of our monthly income. We rarely go out to eat just to expensive and have only lately been spending extra money as I've just started prepping but my husband thinks we have enough and don't need anymore. How much is enough for 2 people? I just learned to can and did 11 quarts of pears as they were free 😊 that will be enough for a year figuring 1 a month. I REALLY love your channel you have so many great ideas especially the menu ones. I do have a hard time though on prepping as I have cancer so carbohydrates are a real no no for me like rice, beans, sugar and flour, you know the stuff you are suppose to be prepping up on. It makes it hard to figure out what I need to purchase and not break the bank. Any suggestions?
My husband and I go to the library on Sunday afternoon. We read our favorite magazines and pick a few books and videos. It costs us maybe 5cents in gas because we drive a Prius that gets 63mpg.
The $800 Grub Hub is MIND BOGGLING to me!!!
We try to cut back on eating out. The food has not been as good, prices are higher, and service sucks. Just not worth it.
It's so frustrating when the food is not good, which is most of the time.
I live in Southern California, we have tons of good restaurants, too much temptations. I still prefer to eat at home because then, I don’t have to drive long distances. Double saver.
We did boyscout from the time my son was young until he graduated. Highly recommend this to keep the kids off the video games. Starting young gets them in the Grove to stick with it. Great leadership program plus he was outside all the time and understands how to be safe out in nature while treating it with respect. He's an adult now and a great young man. He says he learned more from boyscouts about life then he did from school.
I totally gave up on delivery.....and loving cooking now..... especially making my own smoothie.
I sew! Quilts, sheets, drapes, blinds, clothes, lingere...everything. Bought fabric at a thrift store so an expertly made, custom tailored shirt or skirt costs around $3.00!
Sorry if you have already done this, but a fun weekly meal plan idea could be some dupes/recreations for popular fast food places! I would love some good suggestions in that field to just make at home. I have a hard time finding good quality burger patties! ( i mean i've tried twice but you get it lol)
I make my own with a burger press
I love her honesty like yea we go out sometimes but we see how it needs to be in moderation and adjusted our life because of it
Yeah we learned to order water or not alcohol beverages bc they are so pricey out. Don’t order the desserts. The ones I make at home are so much better.
I thought I was a minimalist, I must rethink this, lol. This is your first video I have watched and I loved it. Seems like we have a lot in common. I can't wait to watch more.
Pink tax is sooooo real! Thanks for talking about it
I won’t pay to go to the movies. My hubby and I almost always share a meal on our dates, and we don’t order desserts or booze at restaurants. I don’t buy drive thru coffee unless I have a gift card, and I always do my own manicures. A unitasker that I find absolutely ridiculous is a tea maker. A microwave, the sunshine, a kettle or literally any pot will do the same thing!
Great video! As a student from an east coast city, I was surprised by how much financial philosophy I share with a small town mom of a big family! Goes to say that common sense financial advice is applies to people in a lot of situations. I also love how you talk about what you do and why it makes sense for you and your family without judging other people's choices. Thank you for these videos.
Dryer balls are the best! Have had our dryer balls for a year, no lost balls and they save energy!
I like your mindset. Alot of the things you dont buy or splurge on are similar to my list. We have 6 kids so.... we cook a lot. Fast food doesn't work. My kids call me a cheapskate but I'm ok with that😁
The Friends reference was amazing. There will never be a time when a Friends reference doesn't explain something better then anything else could.
I don’t have a potato masher or a special spatula for hamburger meat. I use a mixer for mashed potatoes, immersion blender for refried beans, and just a regular spatula for hamburger.
Your last statement sums it all up. Buy what you can afford, no debt. Don't wast money. But I think you stopped too soon. Why so close to the bone ? You trade your life for money. Don't waste your life you won't get it back. You get to decide what is a good trade off, but listen to these points to help you consider and make your choices.
I had a friend ask me to look over her finances to see why they were always broke even though they have a great income. Well... they spent $1200 on groceries THEN THEN THEN $2100 on take out and delivery for the MONTH. That was just stuff on the credit card and didn't include cash being spent. I almost fainted. Our take out/delivery budget for the year is about $500 for a family of 4. We don't go out alot. I make our lunches daily. We cook dinner at home. I would much rather spend the extra money we saved on an awesome vacation.
But cooking at home requires water. Gas, electricity.... so that raises your bills.
We spend 1200 a month in groceries but we never eat out so it’s our splurge. I can’t imagine spending 2100 on take out. Unbelievable.
@@marikiemarie7622 eating out for 1 meal can cost a family of 4 $60-$75 depending on the place. For 1 meal. My gas is $30 a month, water sewer and trash is $40 a month, electricity is $25 a month. Us cooking meals at home isn't raising our utility bills haha.
Katherine, I've had at least 6 ppl. ask me to do the same. I didn't see anything that outlandish but I found about half the income wasted on magazines, meals and snacks and junk food, junky stuff that would be broken or novelty stuff that was no longer "shiny" in a few months. I drive a 20 y.o. car that still runs well because I've maintained it. I'm living on a disability and my house is paid off because I never wasted money. The only one-trick appliance I have is an electric quesadilla maker. Got it on sale at Kohl's for less than $10.00 and I LOVE it. Simple to clean-up and the quesadillas come out way crisper than I ever got on the stovetop. My husband and I go out for lunch every Saturday and Sunday, but we use big-value coupons everywhere we go. We NEVER do delivery food. We ask for restaurant gift cards from my mother-in-law for birthdays and Christmas, because we do love high-end restaurants about once a month. But for the most part I love to shop and cook at home for dinner, and then use the leftovers for weekday lunches.
I checked out Rebaid and every item had questionable reviews on Amazon. Kinda don't trust the products even if they're free. Some dog treats with 100% rebate had mold and a dog had broken teeth after eating them. I wouldn't be too happy about that.
My one trick pony in the kitchen that I hate is a banana hanging stand. My husband bought it and I despise that thing.
I've seen things similar to 'REBATE but I never found any item that i would use. It's like manufacturers were just trying to get rid of things.'
