  • Original U2 song was released in 1983. Lyrics refer to the tragic
events of both Bloody Sunday in 1972 and in 1920. The EHC have performed in a heavier style and sounds really wonderful.

    Lyrics
Yeah, I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes and make it go away
How long, how long must we sing this song?
    How long? How long?
'Cause tonight, we can be as one
    Tonight
    Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
    It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Alright, let's go!
    And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me, who has won?
The trench is dug within our hearts
    And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
    Torn apart
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    How long
How long must we sing this song?
    How long, how long?
'Cause tonight, we can be as one
    Tonight
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Come get some!
Wipe the tears from your eyes
    Wipe your tears away
    Oh, wipe your tears away
    Oh, wipe your tears away
    Oh, wipe your bloodshot eyes
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
And it's true, we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
    And today, the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow, they die
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday
    Sunday, Bloody Sunday

The original by U2 was a very well paid homage to a tragedy, but somewhat, it sounds happy. This really has the tear effect. In my country, México, there was a similar tragedy, La Matanza de Tlatelolco, (The killlng of Tlatelolco) where several students were murdered by the police for protesting on the streets. The news on tv didn't report the events, in fact the following morning they started by saying, "It's a perfect, beautiful day, and the skies are blue..." Too sad...

Carlos agree with you. U2 track is somehow ironic happy. This cover is as powerful as it was needed I think. Very sad to hear about the Tlatelolco massacre 1968. You lead me to read about it and I really connected. Every country on earth have similar events. The death of innocent people can never be forgotten or forgiven. May they rest in peace. †

I also thought the original was too happy. I felt like U2 claiming to be humanitarians was a gimmick
