This was actually one of Daryl's very best and most adventurous songs, but we're talking a genius here. He and John Oates made some of the greatest music ever. They knew how to blend all kinds of music soul, rock, pop, all into a unique thing. This song starts off rollicking harder edged and has a psychedelic climax. Nice work.
Hello 👋 Dear. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
You only see it for a split second, but the stone lion with Daryl Hall's eyes is an indelible memory of this video. Amazing what MTV videos could impress upon you back then.
👍"Dreamtime" and Foreigner's Lou Gramm singing "Midnight Blue" are two of my all-time fave solo efforts by artists better known for being in a duo / group. Both are stellar pop songs.
Still remember where I was when I first heard this song....I was waking up on a Saturday morning in late August when this came on over my Casio radio alarm clock.....I'd be heading to 4th grade soon...I had an epiphany that morning. That I knew this magical time would never come again and I should revel in the time.
This has Dave Stewart's fingerprints all over this record. For years I thought Jeff Lynne was the mad genius; but this is Dave for certain. To be back in '86 again and surrounded by such great music
You can draw a line connecting dots in this song to those in another major US chart-climbing production by Stewart from the previous year: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Don't Come Around Here No More".
The 80s music was so much more elaborate , with the way they incorporated various instrumental sounds.... actual music with a tune instead of whatever it is we hav now
Gosh, I haven't heard this since the 80's (I had this as a vinyl single). It's a great pop/rock hit - what a great find! Thank you Daryl - you always made fabulous music. Love the version of Iris you did with John Rzeznik on "Daryl's House".
Oh many many thanks for posting this video. I have searched a long time for this rock classic from the wonderful Daryl Hall. Such a wonderfully enchanting and groovy video combined with Daryl's wonderful charm and music.
same, and also I believe the part is actually "Canon in D", but only in up-tempo form, which I didn't quite notice until years later, which makes it even all the more brilliant.
Yes I've always thought the same thing. The labyrinthine garden, statues, and the fancy-dressed girl walking mysteriously in slow-mo throught mist in a mansion
This is one of those songs that I can vividly remember hearing for the very first time. It was amazing then, it's still amazing now. Dave Stewart's production is flawless, he manages to incorporate the Hall & Oates trademark of making background vocals into hooks, and his avoidance of '80s synths on the track (but using strings and harpsichord!) makes it timeless. And seriously, is there anybody in the world better than Daryl Hall at singing the word "girl"?
Daryl is a musical genius he never got the recognition he so deserved back in those days with all of his amazing music But who’s having the last laugh now …….. He has created an empire of all of his musical talent and with Daryl’s house he is an musical legend and deserves the recognition from the younger fans and all of the new musical talent as well as from all of us who have been following him for years back to the very beginning we respect admire appreciate you Daryl your music has been the window into our Heart and Soul ♥️♥️♥️ YES WE LOVE YOU DARYL🫠🥰
aujourd8 I agree, it is a great name and a great album too. 'Dreamtime' is an outstanding pop song that should have been number one all over the place but for some reason failed to take off.
Roger Nilsson I meant to say it did not take off in the UK, where it only reached number 28. The charts in Britain were competitive in the eighties-artists had to sell a lot of records to have a top ten hit. The song did not receive the recognition it deserved in Britain.
+eightiessongs Why just top 10?????, They had to sell a'lot to have top 20 hits as well -which is just as impressive......... It had to sell a'lot to get in top 30-top 30 is nothing to sneer at is it, I could understand your comment if it went in the top 50 /60 etc then I would of said it didn't take off
The British seem to think anything below a Top 10 is a flop. It's always been that way. Not sure why. Only can imagine that because it's a smaller country, it doesn't take a lot of sales to make it into the top 40 as opposed to the US, where even a top 100 (or at least top 40) is considered an achievement.
The Vinyl Revival was he underrated? I mean he had at least 4 number 1 hits with Oates and wrote another #1 (Every Time You Go Away). He also sang on the Eric Clapton hit No Alibis
I am so glad this is on here I have loved this song and video since it first came out. Awesome sound that had some real get up and go and really got you listening to the lyrics
Pearmain2009 @Pearmain2009 definitelya cut above today's songs. All of Hall's and Hall & Oates songs have amazing lyrics that tell stories. Most of the songs today are gibberish lyrically. And certainly most "artist" today don't play instruments.
Daryl Hall is a brother with a very distinct voice, with his partner John Oates these guys are in a class by themselves. You know their music go listen to it. They're two of the best!
Wow. This has David Stewart's (from Eurythmics) fingerprints all over it. The string sequence toward the end is beautiful, if not a bit haunting, especially with the psychedelic animation. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that this is one of the greatest pop songs of the 80s.
@@TONY_FEZ LOL. Yes! You read my mind. Listening to this again today, and it was difficult to not hear ELO performing this as well. Funny that I never had that thought before today - and then I saw your comment. 👍
This song would stand up to any thing being played today. The lyrics, the graphics, and the video, plus Daryl's high energy. I am going to purchase his new CD beforeafter or after before. For sale on Amazon.
Wow, I used to be so obsessed with this song and video! I had it on VHS and the quality was so poor and it was so grainy, but I'd watch it over and over. It's amazing to see it here, now in such great quality! Blown away!!
Hall is 38 here i was living in Dreamtime as a kid and the 80s,now it's turning into a nightmare more and more to our ends of our lives. To be blessed and part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s atmosphere could harp on and explain vibes and feelings like no other time or place in history
I first heard this on DTV Monster hits, it was Disney Halloween special that ran in 87. Years later and i still don't understand why it wasn't a big hit.
Never could understand why he could never achieve the top quality of music on his own like he did when he played John Oates. Everybody knew that Daryl wrote the lyrics and most of the music. But I still love my Hall & Oates albums. Especially their greatest hits CD. Your voice is one of the best that I've heard in my lifetime. Up there with Elvis, Sinatra and Tom Jones just to name a few.

@@annmariecalkins2096 Understand that this is not Hall and Oates, just Darryl Hall. So you would only see this song performed at the solo tour.
Pure magic. Makes me feel like a little kid again hearing this takes me back to better days.

Why am I just now hearing this at 51???
I frickin love it!!!!❤
👍"Dreamtime" and Foreigner's Lou Gramm singing "Midnight Blue" are two of my all-time fave solo efforts by artists better known for being in a duo / group. Both are stellar pop songs.
Me too. I Remember all his songs .this one only in 2023 I'm ur age too....
The House reminds me of one of The Houses that Daryl Hall refurbished. That was very smart of him to do, have a life outside of Music.
Its Hever Castle. Anne Boleyns old place. @laminage
Love this song. My favorite of all his solo songs. I listen to this song if I am ever struggling with depression. Thank you Mr. Hall 3:40
One of the best songs ever made!
This is such a great great song.
I still love this song. It actually takes me back to the summer of 1986.
I simply adore this song. What a very wonderful video and great song from Daryl. Cannot get this song ever out of my mind. Brilliant!!
Still remember where I was when I first heard this song....I was waking up on a Saturday morning in late August when this came on over my Casio radio alarm clock.....I'd be heading to 4th grade soon...I had an epiphany that morning. That I knew this magical time would never come again and I should revel in the time.
This song is fabulous! Sounds like it has a touch of ELO!!!!
Once I listened to song in its entirety it quickly became one of my favorites...Daryl Hall is a legend!
The 80s music was so much more elaborate , with the way they incorporated various instrumental sounds.... actual music with a tune instead of whatever it is we hav now
@Daryl Hall doing well and hoping you are also !🙂
Gosh, I haven't heard this since the 80's (I had this as a vinyl single). It's a great pop/rock hit - what a great find! Thank you Daryl - you always made fabulous music. Love the version of Iris you did with John Rzeznik on "Daryl's House".
The single greatest strongest nicest sounding song of D Halls’ career! HOFAME him now! Please!
Hall & Oats are already in the RRHOF got in 2015
I love the voice of Hall!!!
I love this song. Man, I miss the 80's. Wish I could go back.
His #5 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 from late 1986
❤❤
Oh many many thanks for posting this video. I have searched a long time for this rock classic from the wonderful Daryl Hall. Such a wonderfully enchanting and groovy video combined with Daryl's wonderful charm and music.
I absolutely LOVE the end of this with the strings. Just a masterpiece.
same, and also I believe the part is actually "Canon in D", but only in up-tempo form, which I didn't quite notice until years later, which makes it even all the more brilliant.
Daryl Hall - Dreamtime (1986)
AH the cello acid trip sequence 😎😛😜😛😎 Wicked!
One of my all-time favorite music vids. This video has always reminded me of the movie,"Labyrinth" with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly.
Here we are in 2022 and he's still got all his hair, as well as that voice, bastard!!! 😂😂💓👍
Only one guy better dude, MJ 🤗💓
It brings me back to some precious times., Great memories dreamtine. Don't wanna wake up
Hall isn’t my favourite rock musician, but by far has the best STYLE!! I think it’s the hair!🎼🎶🎵
Like with H&O, the execution of the material is SPOTLESS! This is rock solid music. And it's an earwig. Daryl Hall is unsung genius today, IMO.
I STILL have my cassette of this album, and even 31 years after its release it’s still in great condition.
DARRYL HALL AT HIS ROCKING BEST !
Ud tiene toda la razón.
日本でも人気者になったJ.Y.Parkは
young or older Daryl you still capture my soul....but no can do give it up to you.....but you got my heart I think that is enough.....ace
Better late than never, thank you for all your kind comments Madge. How are you doing amidst the pandemic?
Daryl is a musical genius he never got the recognition he so deserved back in those days with all of his amazing music
But who’s having the last laugh now ……..
He has created an empire of all of his musical talent and with Daryl’s house he is an musical legend and deserves the recognition from the younger fans and all of the new musical talent as well as from all of us who have been following him for years back to the very beginning we respect admire appreciate you Daryl your music has been the window into our Heart and Soul ♥️♥️♥️
YES WE LOVE YOU DARYL🫠🥰
"3 hearts in the happy ending machine" ...what a great name for an album, I just love it!
aujourd8 I agree, it is a great name and a great album too. 'Dreamtime' is an outstanding pop song that should have been number one all over the place but for some reason failed to take off.
eightiessongs It went to #5 on the charts. Can't say that it didn't take off.
I wish the 80’s lasted forever this song is truly amazing 😉
they do :))
A dearly important song from my teen years.
I'm glad to see how much it means to everyone.
A masterpiece of a song! Daryl Hall has the greatest voice of all time! Played this song a million time and lovin it even more!😊
Such an underrated artist and song never gets the credit he deserves always overlooked by others 80s artists Daryl can sing, write, play genius
The Vinyl Revival was he underrated? I mean he had at least 4 number 1 hits with Oates and wrote another #1 (Every Time You Go Away). He also sang on the Eric Clapton hit No Alibis
RRHoF
Songwriters HoF
Star Hollywood WoF
BMI - Most Airplay (several songs)
Several AMA awards
And so on ...
Incredible song, one of my faves of the whole 80s
I am so glad this is on here I have loved this song and video since it first came out. Awesome sound that had some real get up and go and really got you listening to the lyrics
Pearmain2009 @Pearmain2009 definitelya cut above today's songs. All of Hall's and Hall & Oates songs have amazing lyrics that tell stories. Most of the songs today are gibberish lyrically. And certainly most "artist" today don't play instruments.
Very few live up to classic status. Daryl Hall is a master groove mover. Great soulful sounds 😮
Best song from 80s
I want to hang out at Daryl’s house ! 💙💙💙
i am about to be 18 and i love the oldes i grew up on this kind of music if only Darryl hall was my age
Check out disneyy Halloween treat
The question is, have Jeff Lynne and Dave Stewart ever been seen in the same room together. My theory is that its the same person.
Played this to death on my cassette
+Jeremy Barfour-Awuah Same here =)
+Jeremy Barfour-Awuah I had this on a 45.
Me too. Thanks Dad for throwing all my albums out, but thankfully there's RUclips.
This song is the best! I can't believe I never hear it on 80's stations.
Me too man
I first heard this on DTV Monster hits, it was Disney Halloween special that ran in 87.
Not sure if he is singing backup or not but definitely has an ELO feel to it.
Yeesss!!
❤️.
3:04 EPIC key change!
His voice is
PERFECTION!❤

i have loved this song since 1986 and i still do xx
