- The name "Anissa Jones" may not ring any bells to Millennial and Gen Z TV viewers, but Boomers knew her best as Buffy from the CBS sitcom "Family Affair," which ran for five seasons. From 1966 to 1971, the child star played one half of a twin sibling pair raised by Bill Davis, a wealthy New York City bachelor who becomes a father to the twins after their parents (including Bill's brother) die in a car crash. Unfortunately, Jones never managed to find success in the industry after "Family Affair" ended, and died at the age of 18 of a "combined drug intoxication." Here are some tragic details found in Anissa Jones' autopsy report.

Rest In Peace Anissa Jones.
I know a girl in New Zealand who was named after her.Remember the show when I was a kid. Her mother must have liked the show too.
Sad, but people have choices. She made hers for HER life. Who are we to say if it was right or wrong? It was her choice. If you want to have an opinion after the fact. You are just blowing hot air. Rest Well.
@@RobRoyR8R what opinion, people said rest in peace. You are the one blowing hot air.
Poor Anissa died before she had a chance to grow up! I loved Family Affair and I wanted to be like Buffy. I was 11 years old when she died and it was a total shock! Her story and Bobby Driscoll are the saddest child star stories! I pray she and Bobby are resting in peace.
I find Judith Barsi’s story to be the saddest. Murdered by her own father on her 10th birthday. 😞
I grew up with Anissa in Playa del Rey, ca..we weren't friends, but acquaintences but knew of each other..her apartment building was up the street from ours..her apts were called the jungle bc of all the greenery....I was camping the weekend she died n heard it on radio..I was 17..really bummed..she n I had an argument once when I was about 15..she hung out with trouble but was troubled herself...
Too bad she never got a good ass whooping. She'd still be here. Drugs are never the problem. Emotional and mental dysfunction is always the problem. You don't allow non mature children to live their own life. They can have their own opinions, but the reality is, their opinions don't matter. If you don't love your kids enough to take the time to Beat their ass and tell them no, this is the result.
@@phillipstroll7385 I don't agree. Children need both structure (discipline) AND love. It seems to me she had zero guidance in life and was simply used by the adults around here. Her life was the very definition of a tragedy.
@@meghoughton562 Agree. And stardom frequently sends our youths into a downward spiral. She certainly had her fair share of tragedy. May she RIP.
I remember when she died the coroner said that in all his years he had never seen so many different drugs all at once in one person. That was so sad to hear.
I remember that exact same coroner comment Anissa was one year older than my cousin and they both went to Westchester High. What a tragedy.
So sad .... would have been amazing if she found 12 steps.....
The amount of emotional cruelty / rejection from Mom , her father being physically sick.. the mistreatment of child actors ... all she went through.. must have required a super amount of self - comforting.. hence the anesthesia... My heart literally cries for her life .. so wish she could have known me in her life , so wish I could have known her in my life.. I am about the same age as she was ..maybe we could have been friends .. I know I would have been there for her .. ..I would have been a **true** , sincere friend to her .. .I don't think she got enough of that .. . . sincerity ..just my humble opinion.. So Beautiful a Heart..and soul💢💎..May Darling, Much Loved Ms. Anissa Jones Rest In The Most Blissful , Sweetest Peace🙏🕯️🌹🌻🌺🌼🏵️🌷💮🌻🥀🌸🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹💐 😫😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔💔💙

I still remember coming home from hanging out with my friends. The newspaper was sitting there and on the front page was an article that she passed away. I was 12 when she died and had my first mom/daughter talk about drugs. Like a lot of little girls, when the show was on, I loved it and her character. Her brother also died the same way. She really had a very sad life for a little girl.
I remember back when Anissa passed away my sister and I grew up with Family Affair. The next one I remember most was Dana Plato from Different Strokes, she got mixed up with drugs even held up a dry cleaner was living in a trailer. Died of an O.D. in 1999.
@@TheTheo58 I remember that as well. I lost too many people in my 20s to ODs. That's why I never messed with them. Just my Bacardi and Diet Pepsi lol
I thought I read that her brother also died! When I tried looking up about that, I found nothing.
@@rainbowsandkittens1537 I found the info by searching via Anissa Jones. Her brother John Paul Jones Jr. O.D. passed away on March 15th 1984. He was 24 yrs old

She died 46 years ago. She's been dead twice as long as she lived. That's sad.
That would be 36..
I am 73, which means I was 10 when she was born. If she had lived, she would be 63!

You did not mention the years of abuse from her mother. That is why she was living with her father.
Oh, Anissa. You and your darling brother deserved so much better. 😪
Makes me so sad. She was so adorable. I wish she could have had a happy and long life. Love you Anissa. RIP. ❤️🌻💜
It always breaks my heart when I think of her. I have the box set of Family Affair and whenever I watch the first episode I cry because what a sweet little girl she was and how tragic her short life turned out.
Oh, wow.. that’s amazing that you have the whole set of episodes. When Netflix had the mail in movies about 14 years ago, I rented them all and watched with my daughter 7 at the time and my husband. We still joke about having “bread and sugar” from one of the episodes.
I was the little girl in the park when Buffy lost her hamster Harold;
I said “I wonder if they make hamster coats”
I was also the girl who was the only one to attend their Building Party. I said “I’m sorry”
It was fun working with her. Was so sad when her death was on the news
@@shopiefraccount9782 Interesting! Did your life turn out to be happy? I wish you the very best.
Breaks my heart too. I'm always extremely sad when I think of her life being cut so short the way it was. RIP Anissa.
I remember watching Family Affair when I was a child. I have lived in Los Angles since 1969 and usually hear about stars and their misfortunes. I never knew what happened to her. So sad that no one was looking after her. I raised my twin daughters on my own and my greatest fear was that I would die before they were grown, completed college, and stable in their careers. There was no one stable and responsible enough to step in if I passed away. In is unfortunate that the studios did not step in to help. Also that there wasn't a trust in place so she wouldn't get $200,000 as an 18 year old drug addict. That never ends well. I was working in the drug abuse treatment field at the time she died. I broadcast a radio show on KROQ about the street drug scene then.
The part about just releasing that entire Trust money to an 18 year old so true. The drug issue made matters even worse. What this piece doesn't mention is when she got that money she bought her younger brother, who she also adored, the brand new car of his choice first (a Camero I believe) and then a modest practical car a Ford Pinto for herself. I was 13 when she died and I knew it was from a drug overdose which was sad. She evidently had a good heart and wasn't selfish with the money.

P
I guarantee that Anissa Jones was targeted straight away for sexual abuse (specifically by those interested in doing that to children) when they noticed her vulnerability. Probably there were people paid to keep a look out for suitable victims too and no doubt there still are. It's the way of this fallen world. Then, any symptoms of her trauma from the sexual abuse would get written off as being due to upset over her father's death or the flaws in her mother's personality etc., adding an extra layer to the anonymity of the guilty on top of the threats given to the victim never to disclose what happened to them. Her doctor prescribing her sedatives? Hmmn. Before or after she started losing sleep?
In 1968 & 1969, I had small parts on Family Affair. I was 5, Buffy (Annika) played with me and showed me the different sets between takes. It was so much fun. Years later I was crossing the street to the beach in Santa Monica and a girl passed me and asked if I had been on Family Affair. Shocked I asked Yes how did you know? She giggled and said she just did. Shortly after that her death was on the news and I realized with sadness that it was her in that crosswalk.
She was a kind soul.
I'm so sorry to hear about her troubles, may she RIP
Narrator says her "friends" called police immediately. Not exactly. They left her there for hours before calling anyone, too busy hiding drugs, riding around in her car, and it seems her possessions were stolen from her apartment.
You're right, she likely died 5 or 6 in the morning, they couldn't wake her at 9am and left to get breakfast , it is said, and eventually contacted authorities around noon. Terrible!!
They took off knowing she was bad off. they left the house to go get breakfast. When they came back they then checked her. If they at all cared about her they would have never left her, called an ambulance or never did the drugs in the first place. I hope they are feeling the guilt from that mornings actions to this day .
@@deniserichardson630 Kind of reminds me of AC/DC's singer Bon Scott, who was left for dead for hours (almost two days) after some drug he took was laced with potent heroin.
@@deniserichardson630 people in a deep sleep appear differently than someone who's life has ended. Even to those who have never experienced. There's something different about them even if the odor hasn't set in, something a fly can smell with in minutes after death mind you. Me too. Till this day, so very sad.
I wonder how many kids turn to drugs from trauma of divorce. Trauma is the silent epidemic.
I never knew what happened to Anissa. How sad. It was a good show for children. It was on from 1966 - 1971.
I watched Autopsy The Last Hours of Season 2 Episode 13 it talked about Anissa Jones . It is one of the saddest stories I’ve ever heard of . I thought once she got her money. Then moved away from her mom, her life would get better. The episode showed that most of her friends were using her too . They left her in the morning, to go get breakfast at a restaurant. Borrowed her car , never bothered to ask . They didn’t even invite her . What kind of friend goes out , leaves you home alone and doesn’t check on you ? It’s just too sad for words. She really was all alone . 🥺
Unfortunately, Lots of so-called friends act the same way..It is important to choose wisely.
The so called friends were more into drugs than friendship. It's what drugs will do to you.
she didn't have any support at all near as I can tell.
Brian Keith seemed to care but she seemed to turn him away.
even her brother Paul was close to her but something happened and he didn't attend that party where his sister would lose her life.
whatever happened it's sad either way 😢

Her story was just tragic- she was a lost soul and the death of her father may have played a huge role in how things would eventuate especially because she was made to live with her mother who wasn’t a positive force. The Coroner said her overdose was one of the worst he had ever seen and her brother also died of an overdose years later.
OM goodness , her brother too !! 😫🖤
I remember seeing the story about her death and it's just so sad..heart breaking. There is a documentary on her I watched...just awful.

This sequence must be why my entire childhood was drug education, on TV and in school. To this day, I have never actually seen anybody in real life use drugs other than pot and alcohol. But the media did a good job all through the 1970's of warning us against it.
She was a real life doll baby. That was a sweet show, ahead of its time. RIP lovely Anissa.
I loved Buffy!! Soooo sad how young she was when she died. I never knew that she died at 18!! :( crazy young! Beautiful girl, sad loss. Thanks for making this video!!
I just turned thirteen years old when she died. I went home from school and as a sad coincidence our independent television station was showing Family Affair, the first episode Buffy. I sat there and cried as little Buffy was crying about not being wanted. I was shocked to learn about Anissa dying if a drug overdose. Rest In Peace Anissa. 😭😔😪😢💔

RIP Mary Anissa Jones (March 11, 1958 - August 28, 1976) (aged 18), Anissa's father, John Paul Jones, died on March 7, 1974, at age 44. On March 15, 1984, Jones's brother, Paul, died of a drug overdose. He was 24 years old. Jones's mother, Mary Paula Jones, died in Detroit, Michigan of natural causes on January 14, 2012.
I met Johnny Whitaker (Jody) in 1998 or 1999. I was working as a waitress at a Dennys in Tucson Arizona. He was very nice, and expressed sadness in regard to Anissa Jones' death. He was with a man named Fred, who was a friend of Jennifer Connelly. Lol. I'm not sure why I'm remembering these odd details. 🤔
I’m glad you did
Anissa Jones was a very intelligent actress. I have the first season of "Family Affair" on dvds. She was awesome. That's so sad how she died and that she died so young. She was only 18 years old when she died.
Dana Plato met a similar fate although she died at an older age - 35! Her death was ruled a suicide! I wonder if Ms. Jones took her own life! Perhaps Johnny Whitaker has the answer!
My dad and her dad were both friend,s because they both worked at “ hughes aircraft, and I met her when my dad went to visit him. She was ditching school and hanging out with some friends, and my dad had me wait outside with them. We had a name calling fest for a few moments until she found out my dad was friend,s with hers, then she was super nice to me. She adored her dad. .. her dad died a few months after this. Sad! 🦋

I think about her often. She was a brilliant little actress! Such a tragic life. Mrs. Beasley was my favorite doll growing up. Wish I still had her.
My mother thought she was so cute and she named me after her. Spelled my name different to add her own flare to it. Such a sad ending to her life. My mom is gone now too. I clicked on this because it made me think of my mom. She would have been sad about this.
Oh that's so sad. A young life ruined by self serving adults. Cut down before she even had a chance. Mum must've been in a bad way for Dad to get custody back then.
God Bless all the children 🙏
She was 4 months and 17 days older than me. I saw her in many a "Family Affair" episodes when I was a child, unknowing that I was almost exactly her age.
This sort of reminds me of Dana Plato although Ms. Plato died at the age of thirty-five!

I can't imagine why anyone would suggest that in the complete absence of even a suggestion it ever happened. It seems like just another opportunity to start rumors about a dead actor. From what I've read, she went wild after her father died. And like many child stars, she never got the chance to be a kid.
@@bjs301 Maybe because the majority of child actors are molested, either by relatives or people in the industry where it is rampant.
@@mph1ish I thought about that possible response. I don't minimize child abuse. I know it is very common in the industry, but I don't think there is data showing the majority of child actors are molested. And with a life story that does not suggest she was such a victim , it strikes me as unhelpful to throw it out there. It just strikes me as one more piece of negativity to throw on a deceased young lady.

'Hollywood' is a state of mind and is only real for the lucky few. Los Angeles is reality, and it is a snake pit.
I was born in 1965, so my earliest memories include Family Affair as my favorite tv show, and the reason it was my favorite was because I loved Buffy & wanted to be just like her. I actually still have my Mrs. Beasley doll. My mother kept it stored away for some reason. & I only recently found it. I also wanted to be Chastity Bono as my family watched Sonny & Cher regularly as well. My favorite part was always at the end when they brought Chastity out. Hollywood has not been kind to children as very few of them come out unscathed. Everyone used to think it was the fame & fortune that messed them up, now we know that it was so much darker than that.
I had a major crush on Chastity. I think I was just a year or two older. My favorite part too was when they’d bring her out at the end… I remember Sonny holding her a lot.
Hey MissouriPA. Your Mrs.Beasley doll is worth alot of money!! Wish I would have kept mine!
@@joymattox1746 oh really? She’s in mint condition too, because I was an only child & I always took good care of my toys. My Barbie’s weren’t naked like everyone else’s lol! I wish I’d run across some of those…I had thedream house, Skipper’s camper, etc… Mrs. Beasley used to sleep with me, just like she did with Buffy, and that was about the most abuse she ever suffered. Lol! If the price of gas keeps going up, I may have to check into that, otherwise, maybe I’ll pass her down. I wonder why they don’t ever show any Family Affair reruns like they do for so many other shows?
I loved this show as well and also had a Mrs Beesley doll .
@@MissouriPA They might not show it so much any more because that evil Mrs. Beasley was possessing kids’ souls and leading them to ruin like she did Miss Jones. Seriously though, Mrs. B. and the way Buffy acted around her was creepy.

Child stars all have problems.
Many actors do too. Parents often love the money.
The love of money is root of all kinds of evil.
Child stars get messed up real bad, especially when parental supervision and grounding are lacking. It also leaves the door wide open for sexual abuse on the set

I t must have been sad to see that you were no longer wanted in television just because you grew up. This must have been so hard to cope with as a young girl, it's no wonder she had problems.

Family Affair came on when I was young. I watched it sometimes.
I remember watching that show as a very very young kiddo. What an unfortunate tragedy.
I would have liked to see her as Iris in the movie "Taxi Driver". Would have been a different movie character part for her.

This is something I will never understand - having the world at your feet and throwing it all away.
I don't understand it either but so many have done it.
That's what addiction is and what it does. Period.
To start drugs/ drinking in the first place it's curiosity, peer pressure, a social buffer, an escape.
But boy if you have the right genetic makeup and all the poison "agrees" with you? Bye bye.
Scanspeak00...I agree. Still happening today. They reach the life that others can only dream about. And then when they can have everything, enjoy the fruits of their studying and hard work , they choose drugs to waste their tim on when they have leisure time. They have the world by the tail and can choose dozens of ways to spend their time away from working and they choose drugs. Baffles my brain, no end.
Sometimes, having the world is just too much.
