  • The name "Anissa Jones" may not ring any bells to Millennial and Gen Z TV viewers, but Boomers knew her best as Buffy from the CBS sitcom "Family Affair," which ran for five seasons. From 1966 to 1971, the child star played one half of a twin sibling pair raised by Bill Davis, a wealthy New York City bachelor who becomes a father to the twins after their parents (including Bill's brother) die in a car crash. Unfortunately, Jones never managed to find success in the industry after "Family Affair" ended, and died at the age of 18 of a "combined drug intoxication." Here are some tragic details found in Anissa Jones' autopsy report.

Too bad she never got a good ass whooping. She'd still be here. Drugs are never the problem. Emotional and mental dysfunction is always the problem. You don't allow non mature children to live their own life. They can have their own opinions, but the reality is, their opinions don't matter. If you don't love your kids enough to take the time to Beat their ass and tell them no, this is the result.

I remember watching Family Affair when I was a child. I have lived in Los Angles since 1969 and usually hear about stars and their misfortunes. I never knew what happened to her. So sad that no one was looking after her. I raised my twin daughters on my own and my greatest fear was that I would die before they were grown, completed college, and stable in their careers. There was no one stable and responsible enough to step in if I passed away. In is unfortunate that the studios did not step in to help. Also that there wasn't a trust in place so she wouldn't get $200,000 as an 18 year old drug addict. That never ends well. I was working in the drug abuse treatment field at the time she died. I broadcast a radio show on KROQ about the street drug scene then.

The part about just releasing that entire Trust money to an 18 year old so true. The drug issue made matters even worse. What this piece doesn't mention is when she got that money she bought her younger brother, who she also adored, the brand new car of his choice first (a Camero I believe) and then a modest practical car a Ford Pinto for herself. I was 13 when she died and I knew it was from a drug overdose which was sad. She evidently had a good heart and wasn't selfish with the money.

I guarantee that Anissa Jones was targeted straight away for sexual abuse (specifically by those interested in doing that to children) when they noticed her vulnerability. Probably there were people paid to keep a look out for suitable victims too and no doubt there still are. It's the way of this fallen world. Then, any symptoms of her trauma from the sexual abuse would get written off as being due to upset over her father's death or the flaws in her mother's personality etc., adding an extra layer to the anonymity of the guilty on top of the threats given to the victim never to disclose what happened to them. Her doctor prescribing her sedatives? Hmmn. Before or after she started losing sleep?

In 1968 & 1969, I had small parts on Family Affair. I was 5, Buffy (Annika) played with me and showed me the different sets between takes. It was so much fun. Years later I was crossing the street to the beach in Santa Monica and a girl passed me and asked if I had been on Family Affair. Shocked I asked Yes how did you know? I was born in 1965, so my earliest memories include Family Affair as my favorite tv show, and the reason it was my favorite was because I loved Buffy & wanted to be just like her. I actually still have my Mrs. Beasley doll. My mother kept it stored away for some reason. & I only recently found it. I also wanted to be Chastity Bono as my family watched Sonny & Cher regularly as well. My favorite part was always at the end when they brought Chastity out. Hollywood has not been kind to children as very few of them come out unscathed. Everyone used to think it was the fame & fortune that messed them up, now we know that it was so much darker than that.

I wish I’d run across some of those…I had thedream house, Skipper’s camper, etc… Mrs. Beasley used to sleep with me, just like she did with Buffy, and that was about the most abuse she ever suffered. Lol! If the price of gas keeps going up, I may have to check into that, otherwise, maybe I’ll pass her down. I wonder why they don’t ever show any Family Affair reruns like they do for so many other shows?
