    what is the advantage of using these functions within PowerBI instead of first doing the math in Excel and then just using PowerBI to display the data?

    • @SolutionsAbroad

      Hey mate, thanks for watching the video! These functions are used on measures which are dynamic in nature.
      It means that the functions recalculate on-the-fly as the user slices and dices the Power BI report, depending on the context.
      Great question, I will try to cover this question in video form with an example, keep an eye out for that!

      Power BI with Fernan thanks Fernan. I usually do most of my calculations in excel and use PowerBi as a clean interface to display the end product. I’m definitely interested in how I can use powerbi more. Great content by the way. Great quality. Looking forward to seeing more.

      Hello, wanted to add a reason for doing this calculations within Power BI would be to automate reporting processes. Rather than pulling the data into Excel, running calculations, then pulling the data into Power BI for visualizations, you can run the calculations and visualizations in Power BI with cutting out that middle step. Should help save time and effort.

    Help! I need an average duration of only open tickets across time (weeks). Open meaning, if created date < calendar start of the week AND closed date > calendar end of the week or blank. I know duration days and average and related but can’t at all put them altogether 😢

    Hi, if I want to get an overall average by various categories using distinct count for the customer, how do I do this?

    • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  2 года назад

      Hi Willow, you'll need to use SUMMARIZE in order to use the AVERAGE per category. Although a quick and dirty way is to just create a table of categories and drag in the sales average, this will do the job for you really quickly!

    Thank you mate, a question. I have departments under them Groups and then Categories and then Products. If I calculate AVERAGE(Products) and use Departments, groups, categories which are made unique and creaed dIM tables to link them with fact table. When I use each of them as filter, will I still get the average ?

    • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  2 года назад +1

      Hi, Yes it will exactly! The whole point of measures is that it's context can be changes, so if you filter by department or other categories as long as your relationships are set up

    Hi I want to prepare the HR dashboard but a little confused as to how to use the slicer so that it shows me cumulative headcount of each year instead of showing the headcount of staff who joined in the same year. Please note that I just have date of joining in my data. Kindly also help me for Resignation on the same pattern also how to calculate turnover percentage using only last working date.

    • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  3 года назад

      Hi Riaz great question! We need to breakdown your questions into separate bits;
      - To get the Headcount, you need to use their start date and termination date. You need to create a measure which calculates, at a specific date, if an employee start date >= date, or termination date < today, or no termination date
      - To get the Cumulative Headcount, you need to use the running total quick measure, I cover how to do it easily in this video
      ruclips.net/video/SFISgDUwuoA/видео.html
      - To get turnover, you also need the leavers, which you will need a measure for. Here's a video I cover about how to count leavers in a measure. You can use this in combination of the headcount to calculate your turnover
      ruclips.net/video/fOcgIuaJHEs/видео.html
      Hope these help!

      @@SolutionsAbroad Hi Fernan thank you for all your help I was able to use the running total quick measure through which i got the desired result of cumulative headcount. Great video indeed! I have also seen your video on turnover but not able to do the turnover percentage calculation on year on year basis leavers divided by average headcount of that year/month/quarter. Can you kindly help me? Also would you reply me on email if I share any file asking for solution? I would greatly appreciate your help. I will also attend your live streaming this Saturday positive. • @SolutionsAbroad
      @SolutionsAbroad  3 года назад

      Hi Raju thanks for watching!
      AverageA should be treating nulls and non-numerics as 0. Check your data types, maybe your data types are non-numeric.
      Hope that helps!

      My data type is whole number , for average (total / only numeric) for average A (total/numberic +blanks) I'm correct ?...as u mentioned in excel ,where I am doing same , getting same result for both 😂
