Like A Version is a segment on Australian radio station triple j. Every week a musician or band comes into the studio to play one of their own songs and cover a song they love.
Since 2004, many artists have participated, including Childish Gambino, Lorde, CHVRCHES, Tame Impala, Tash Sultana, HAIM, Gang of Youths, Halsey, DMA'S, Aurora, Arctic Monkeys. You can watch past sessions here: bit.ly/like_a_v...

Do you think she’s smiling because she enjoys the song or because she’s so ecstatic all that tech is actually working the way she wants it to
Probs both
Eyy-Its-Me XD +1
She's smiling because of the electric FEEL
smiling because theres literal perfection comin out of her and its dope
I think secretly Tash is thinking of all the beautiful people that feel her electric feel so deeply that they are nearly at a climactic state of being and they peak right as the beats flow naturally into the next chord...so fucking hot!! Sometimes I wonder if we see Tash's face as one would as she rises to her own crescendo'!? Beautiful!!!
it's awesome to watch someone having so much fun making music.
Andrew McUne its beautiful
idk i found it a bit cringey, wasn't digging the overdone 'barefoot free spirit' vibe
I'm sorry but you cannot compare Tash Sultana and Stevie Ray Vaughn hahaahahahaha
"This is coming from someone that has practised guitar for a long time." It sounds like you tried to make your opinion sound like fact too dude. hahaha
Sounds like that's you, you are obviously a child.
Crew: How many pedals are we going to need?
Tash: yes
hahahaha... right?!
"How many pedals did Tash say?"
"She said, MORE."
@@jungletrainn *pedals
I don't know if the pedals make a difference?
Give her some more to balance with her mega-talent !
Walter Juszczak what?
There's times where she almost seems surprised by her voice and guitar licks. Her energy is so infectious.
Lol! Probably both!!!
Her passion is so infectious. That is a true artist at work
Ditto
So tash I's a girl correct?
Dead on!!! Her passion is what makes it infectious
Yes, and it makes the song more enjoyable!
She’s not an artist. She is the art.
I have to ask: is this entirely real? In 8m 43s, she has drawn up and looped her own samples, and pulled off this bake-opening performance across guitar, percussion, pedal and extraordinary voice. If so, then this has to be the greatest performance i've ever bloody seen. I'm in utter awe at this.
See her live my friend.
You know, if she ever comes to Ireland, North or South, i will definitely be there.
@@chemicalmix she will be in Cork on the 3rd of July and Dublin on the 4th
@khkwsu Thank you so much for the information! I will definitely be getting a ticket to the Dublin gig and making my way down from the North. It is absolutely worth it to see this insanely talented artist blow my mind in person. Thanks again,Chem
search for her street performances, she's amazing
When is triple j gonna put these like a versions on Spotify, give the people what they want please.
Zane Fancourt YESS
dont we all wish it was just that easy, its not up to triple j it up to the artist and triple j as a blanket rule probably just dont upload anything to spoify to avoid legal trouble
Switch to RUclips Music. Solved.
Exactly...switch to RUclips Music, simple as that, that guy was just making it complicated for himself !....:D
If you download it to your computer it will show up in local files on spotify. And can from there be added to playlist.
Note: breaks youtube guidelines
Presenters: And here's Tash Sultana, covering MGMT's Electric Feel - take it away
Tash: *guitargasms for eight and a half minutes*
Everyone: Yes
🤣🤣🤣😭you win this comment section sir
Perfectly phrases 😂❤👏
I love how polarised people are by this song. It's that intense and visceral that people feel compelled one way or the other. I think she is incredibly talented and this song would go down so well at a festival. I can understand why people think it should have been shorter and she should have pronounced her lyrics but she is filthy and raw - that's the fun, charm of it.
So you're admitting to being tone deaf?
Dude, no need to bring Trump into it. Geez.
Nah Cal.
Mate, Richard has nothing to do with it either. Chill.
Hahahaha. Oh Daryl, only if I cared enough about you to venture to your profile. Thanks for checking me out old mate ;;;;)))
I love when an artist does a cover and stays true to their self as an artist.
Damn john On the cool I didnt really like the cover. But I feel her realness and i aint gonna hate on that
Yeah, then you can appreciate both the inspiration and the original sound
Well said, I prefer the og more but tash did an electric job
why the negative comments? Its a cover, and I absolutely love it when an artist takes a song that isn't theirs and turns it into their own tune. To me that is what Like a Version is all about. It showcases the artist talent and how they can take a song and mold it. She is amazingly talented... a one woman band. This song sounds nothing like the original, and its an great that she has turned an electronic dance track and made it into this floaty, hippy track.
katyrosiely that's exactly what Like A Version is all about, no one is questioning that. But that doesn't mean everyone has to like it, people have differing opinions. That's okay.
agreed!!
Because people want covers to be exactly the same as the original with different vocals. A good cover is taking a song and turning into something you've never heard before.
there's no problem with changing it.
this its awfull.
lol
YALL REALIZE SHE IS LITERALLY A ONE PERSON BAND
Her Saxaphone skills are wicked aswel Tash isa proper legend already
THEY are a one person band. 👹
So is tame impala
Yeah we have eyes
yes, like thousands of bands, mostly in the black metal genre but my point still stands, yall need to dig deeper because there is a shitton of talent in every genre imaginable. That said, I like Tash, love her sound and interpretation!
To Tash.... there's this Andy Warhol quote that goes something like this... "Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art"
Amen sista!
Yes
andy warhol also took responsibility for so many others talent by the way and he was dwarfed by those in his employ and others like basquiat etc. warhol was a marketer not an artist.
Warhol knew what all great artist know; there is always more. I would say that Andy was an encourager, a real Art lover.
fucks sake steve
Tash Sultana described her music as her trying to create a sonic atmosphere and thus her style is more about sound than words.
She could do with some articulation of words I agree but she has more talent in her little finger than most of us have in our whole body.
Amy Hampson having talent for music doesnt mean that it sounds good
The problem with that is that she tries not to articulate her words. Look at people like Jonsi'. He made up his own language (Vonlandic) to create emotion via sound over words, kinda like how you explain Tash.
+ about 1 million fucking layers of delay
so you can do her solo at 7.30
1337iPhoneGamer If this music isn't for you, that's fine. But art is subjective, and plenty of people love this kind of music.
is there a pedal she doesn't own? that board is intense. just about as much footwork going on as actual playing!
Bet this kind of music could regrow coral reefs .. string a few party speakers together lol
Audio engineer: Tash, how much reverb do you want?
Tash: Yes
Real original.. Good thing you didn't blatantly steal that from @tiffany Vanlengen
for lack of creativity, sense of humour and individualism. 🖒🖒
@@Eltramicst and Tiffany stole it from someone else....this joke format is used thousands of times on thousands of RUclips vids everyday..
@@Eltramicst Apparently, as of writing this, Nilo's joke was plenty fresh for 562 other people. It's a youtube comment, not a netflix special. If you've heard that one a few too many times just scroll on by.
In response to those who replied to my previous comment: Regardless of anything, this world is packed to the brim with sheep, copycats and followers; my intention was merely to give credit where due, but apparently it is far more abstracted than I was aware. My apologies.
@@Eltramicst It might well be. Frankly a world populated solely by mavericks and geniuses sounds fucking exhausting. Having said that, one lunge at the low hanging fruit in a context where it hardly matters does not make you deserving of a dressing down of that kind. Also, shitting over a less than inspired youtube comment is not the same as giving the accomplished their due. It is just getting your knickers in a twist over a youtube comment.
I can barely make out what she is saying
a lot of aussie artists are like that. A lot of it is accent. Listen to Alt-J, they are a lot like that.
Alt-J are British
^ dead
It's not her accent, it's how much reverb she had on her mics.
You can definitely understand what she is saying. What she has done is turn this song into a completely different unique version. It is fucking amazing!
tash sultana is honestly such an underrated artist, she actually makes genuine music + beats right in front of your eyes in such a unique and beautiful way. I could listen to her forever! gorgeous + amazing cover, absolutely in love
Finn Andersson an underrated artist who finished #3 in the hottest 100? I think most people realise how good she is lol
The Virtual Sandbox I meant more globally, but all goods aha
plus all the shows she has just sold out.
"Hey, we're gonna need a soulful cover so buttery smooth you can spread it"
Tash: Say no more...
Christina Posadas I honestly can’t believe it’s not butter 🤷🏽♂️
Meeting tash if it s possible
So funny. People who say girls aren’t funny should read your comment. They’ll shit their pants with laughter at how funny you are.
I mean I halfway agree, Listen to Sublime, they are pretty much the biggest and best cover band of all time! Annddd no one, sings with as much soul than Bradley Nowell! But I do love me some Tash
My friend told me that, she sounds like the ocean! I'm agree with that! Love and light to her!
Wow. Sounds like the ocean. Deep. Literally.
I keep referring to their sound the same way! Like rippling and waving water. I love it!!
Tash Sultana is amazing. She doesn't use all the pedals and effects to hide behind. She uses those tools to enhance and compliment her artistry. IT'S SO GOOD!
Well put
Well those pedals are for the guitar so it's not hiding anything or meant to hide anything it's like you said to add to the sound or sound escape feel
@@ishthefish9006 there are plenty of pedals connected to the second mic though, her main mic also has a lot of reverb
That was sarcasm right?
Love how she has found her natural high through music, most people need the best drugs in the world to reach the level that she's on.
Soooo true!!
I took many things but to geht her "high" - i need wet, loneley street and my e36 😍
OMG

Thank you MGMT for making this song for Tash
Shes actually amazing, I've never seen anyone put so much soul into a cover.

Lol ok...
It s called sound fx Not soul

I totally agree with you
It's actually just really hard to sing while your tongue is swollen to the size of a grapefruit. What you're seeing is a woman trying very very hard.

Lol me either

Looks like a turd hanging around her neck..

not my thing but she's so into it that I can't help but admire the cover. she's really talented.
I wish she'd chosen a different song though

she's been playing since she was 3. it's 99% practice 1%talent

Mitch Manta "Hard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard."
Such a genius. They can’t contain. It. I seen them in Buffalo this past summer. It was INCREDIBLE. An amazing blessing to hear them first hand. Tash’s Music is everything. A complete vibe.
Yeah she’s awesome.
@@huston345 So backhanded ⚰
Loved listening to her jamming this morning, but actually watching her peform it... something else. Chilling performance!
I love how much she loves doing what she is doing.
This would be so much better if words weren't slurred so ridiculously
The more you listen to this type of style, I think you're sort of training your ears to understand what is being said, even if it isn't entirely correct it has your own interpretation. Everything going on in the song (for me) isn't mixed in to one, it's a whole bunch of individual sounds I tune in too. I personally really appreciate artists who embrace and have fun doing these sorts of covers :)
No, it would probably be worse, it wouldn't fit the vibe at all
Laura E look up the lyrics and have a fookin read-along!
Laura E i have concluded your taste in music is shit
This is an absolute reminder that a song and artist are not one in the same.
Music we love is a combination of talent, ideas, and vision, topped off with the skill to execute on the first three. Ten musicians could have the same idea for a song and get ten wildly different results. From death metal, to Queen to... this!
No one else on earth would have considered performing this song, this particular way.
That is amazing.
I love it. Variety is the spice of life.
Blew me away! This has officially become my favorite triple j performance, favorite cover, live performance and RUclips video all at once!
you're drunk mate
You're cooked
you must be really young
Oh man her guitar rifts are so funky, I freakin dig this so much🤘
i'm autistic, view my channel, i play the banjo.
The Aurora one is great
Electric Feel is one of my fave songs of all time.. This cover was so different then the original, but so fucking good
Ritchie kotzen does a version with his daughter and its another great cover of this song. So many roads can be taken with this song its amazing
I honestly hated it, while I respect their talent this cover was ear murder
I think it's funny yet awesome how she moves as if she's gonna rock out hard but then her music comes out so light and chill.
The passion she exudes is incomparable! What a legend!
Couldn't agree more with your comment. This is so f*cking brilliant, She is 100% pure music !!
Legen... wait for it, wait for it..... dary!
legend??? do you even understand what the word fucking means?
i rate her idea of making these mad vibey soundscapes but i think her actual musical talent is pretty short of legendary
“Oooh girl, sha-me-li-electreel”
😂
🤣
HAHAHAHAH.
💀
🤌🏻🤌🏻
Tash Saltana ROCKS in everything she does! Just gorgeous: her, her passion, her talent, her performance.
Saw her in Seattle. Best concert ever! Better than big bands I saw back in the 90s
someone tell me why I haven't heard of Tash Sultana until 8 days ago
Because your mate sponge bob is a hold out.
Go listen to her song welcome to the jungle or notion and then really kick yourself in the head lol
I was a say u lived under a rock but with the spongebob comment u prob do?
I found out about her on the most obscure of RUclips channels without any viewers maybe a year ago, totally random.
I know right ..I just happened to stumble upon her just now because I saw a video of MGMT...She is so Damn awesome!!!! So fucking talented...
Most derived from the original song Like a Version I've ever heard, but it's a fucking jam so no complaints
For people like this it's not blood in their veins that flows, it's pure music. You can tell she feels it in every fibre and a guitar is just an extension of her.
You can tell that she really loves the art that music is and I love that. She's amazing
I love that you're smiling and having a good time.
I miss giving a f**k about music that way... been decades.
EconAtheist That's a shame...
what was it like being around when Mozart died?
You can start by giving a fuck about censorship
wow! i can't even walk and chew gum at the same time
well thats good because she doesnt sing and play even once. so
Steve, you've responded to around five comments with the intention of tearing Tash's music and ultimately her livelihood apart. It seems you have desperately gone out of your way to tell everybody how terrible she is as a musician. There is no 'valid' form of music, so don't be bitter. Play nice. By the way, if your going to criticize (fair enough) but do it in a semi-intelligent way, or else you look like the idiot.
yassss
Neither can she. Unless it's overproduced with a lot of effects.
halfblood prince, that was a favorite saying of my late husband. He used to say I couldn't WACG at the same time. I won't tell you what I said to him./lol
*Tash Sultana rewrites MGMT 'Electic Feel' for Like A Version
She didn't necessarily rewrite it, just made her own arrangement. It still holds plenty of qualities of the original. She took the main guitar riff/chord progression and built upon it
Like A Version is about putting your own spin on the cover
Actually the bpm from the real song is 108 and this one is 128, so yes, she made a new song
Biefeld this is an famous case of she did and she didnt ;P still sure mgmt could sew her if they want it :,)
Don Huegen which would just ruin LAV
The talent within this girl is only the beginning to her impressiveness, it’s the fierce passion you can see from her smile and the pure soul she feeds into her cover, the Rhythm, and the variety and depth of her sound progression. This is just art, amazing girl. An utter inspiration as a female artist too, never seen anybody perform so beautifully live, definitely will listen to her pieces and albums forever. Her style also and fashion is so cool, it’s almost free and fluid. Love her to bits.
Tash doesn't find notes to play, the notes find her as she graces them with her presence.
underrated comment 👏🏼
Umm, I'm usually not that guy but wrong pronoun. Hey you gen z/millennials made the world this way, stick to your guns

Absolute GOLD!!! Raw, unstructured, pure talent. Don't ever change Tash, you are incredibly gifted! Can't wait to see you one day in concert, hopefully in Tassie!
A big part of her music is creating a sound with her instruments not just her voice. She did a cover and made it hers... ofc it’s not gonna sounds like the exact thing but that’s exactly why we love her hahaha this is fuckin amazing

I love her facial expressions- she always looks like she’s smiling bc she pleased the gods with her music or something
Tash Sultana isn't a musician. She's an artist. And a damn bloody good one, at that.
i don't shit in the toilet, i'm an artist.
Getting lost in the act
@Cody Alexander REEEEEEEEEEEEE!
She's definitely a musician bro. The very definition.
Cody Alexander that was my thought theres a lot of good artists but real musicians are rare
Very inventive and unique, cool vibes in this sound with one hell of a setup. I'm definitely going into look into Tash Sultana after this. I love the original to say this is my jam. Different strokes, I guess.
Instantly on my favourite artists list
This was a m a z i n g
Every time I watch her I am in complete awe 😩 she never fails to amaze me
first time hearing this, got goosebumps. pure emotion. such an electric feeling. beautiful. bliss.
This is a full experience. I am crying in amazement. She is truly a gifted and rare artist.
The people disliking this video don't have a taste mature enough to enjoy her. Tash isn't trying to replicate MGMT or to do anything different. She's just creating sound to deliver herself and you to a different place, and imo, she does that pretty damn well.
Blacke Chan I understand what you're saying, but it's not down to mature taste. Don't ever put it down to mature taste. People have different perceptions and opinions of good and bad. Personally, I believe she is much better in creating a record rather than something I would want to experience live. Saying she is a talented musician is kinda like lying to yourself, because you're watching her use all this pedals in the same key with minimal variety and just stacking shit like every kid does when they get their first couple of pedals. She is both doing service and butchering the vocal instrument at the same time, and the 'guitar solo' makes it look childish, taking it from a relaxed vibe into some kind of "Heyyyyyyy how cool is this" vibe.
But that's just my own opinion.
TASH i love how she grooves her body shes definately feeling every note every beat she lays down. And that smile of hers is captivating. What a woman what talent what a groove and can shred a telecaster. keep the groove sweet child and please come to southern ONTARIO CANADA LOVES YOUR MUSIC
If it wasn’t for the lyrics I wouldn’t have known it was electric feel. She totally made it her own and I find that astonishing. She’s amazing
This is the sound of an ELECTRIC FEEL. Its a painting made of vibrations and sounds. THIS. IS. ART.
You're not supposed to be able to hear it word for word.. it's a cover: "like a version" *cough*, an interpretation and open to the listener to interpret too. Feel the music people, like Tash is. So many huge artists were known for their blurred or skewed singing style, think of Skunk Anesie, even Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Alt-J.. originality. I only discovered Tash Sultana last weekend randomly through youtube. Just booked tickets for a gig in September in London. Would never normally plan so far ahead. Going to take my dad, can't wait to introduce him to Tash's music as he did me Jimi Hendrix :)
I’ve always loved her soooo much because she’s so passionate, I’ll never forget when I came across them on Facebook years ago, a version of jungle I’m still yet to find because she did it slightly different than any other recording but it was so good and made me feel all the things good music does and I was immediately obsessed than later came across this. Was in love. Glad I found her again
Love Tash, but half of the song was inaudible? Huge MGMT fan, and couldn't even make out the words..
If you're a huge MGMT fan you should know the lyrics mean shit all anyway. Electric Feel is gibberish - nice gibberish but still gibberish.

I saw her live a few months ago and my god....this lady is such an incredible musician. So unbelievably talented!!
Watching artists preform with such passion puts a smile on my face
The voice, sound, and passion that just pours out of her is just unreal. She is probably one of those people who constantly hear beats in there head and when they are feeling good, sad, mad they just pour it out in sound.
It takes some soul to play like that and mean it. Didn’t know this artist before this but glad I found this. Keep up the good work.
