What I like about this movie, is that it captures the surrounding atmosphere of what it would be like to be living in that place and time. Where many other movies would turn it into an over-the-top western shooter, by only focusing on the main character and not multiple points of view of different lives. Coupled with good actors and a good story that goes through all the emotions like fear, despair, survival, friendship, love, it makes for a great film.

My people also....Scots-Irish/German ancestors from Virginia into the North Carolina Pisgah mountains in the 1700's and then to the upper northeast Georgia mountains from the 1840's onward. My lineage made whiskey for generations......my dad ran it in a suped up 1941 Ford sedan from the mountains down to Atlanta in the late 1940's/ early 1950's.

Oldman played Banner well but I wish they would made the character a bit more accurate. Floyd Banner died at the age of 30. Woulda been cool to seen a younger person play the part with a younger crew like irl.
