    This just about made me cry. I was at this game and the following day when Ryan pitched. I didn't even realize it until I googled it on baseball reference. This old place was truly a thing of beauty. The days when you could walk up to the gate by a ticket and sit where ever you wanted to. God I miss this place. Someday when I'm 80 I'll look back on my life and remember some of my best memories will be my Dad taking to me Indians games in the 80's at this place.

    This was the best stadium in baseball. If you don’t believe me, ask Ricky Vaughn and Willie Mays Hays

    Saw a lot of games there. It was always beautiful to me. I was horribly biased but college friends took me to Reds games in Riverfront and I thought that place had none of the atmosphere of Cleveland Stadium, even with much more fans. Anybody remember buying general admission in Cleveland and moving down to field boxes by the 5th inning? Got quite a few foul balls. That was heaven...

    Thanks for posting this. The last Indians game I went to at the 'Mistake' was about a week before this video was shot (vs. KC)

    Not even joking, I was at the game the night before this. I remember it because Jim Thome hit like the third home run of his career right toward us. I even looked it up to confirm it. This is cool stuff!

    Spectacular video. I wish I had gone to some of these stadiums, including Tiger Stadium and memorial stadium.

    AWESOME footage... thanks for posting! I was actually in attendance at this game. It was Nolan Ryan's final start in Cleveland, so it was a packed house. I sat in the upper deck, third base side in the last section before the bleachers. Very hot day... not much of a breeze either. I miss that old dump.

    Municipal Stadium wasn't slated for demolition the year after this video. It was actually demolished in late 1996- early 1997. The Cleveland Browns played at Municipal Stadium through the 1995 season until they left for Baltimore. 1993 was just the final season the Indians played there. I do love the video. Excellent footage. Watching it with the full screen made me feel like I was at the Stadium. I watch this video frequently when I want to reminisce and remember the feeling of being at the Stadium.

      Don Straley Remember not being able to see the field until you walked up one of the ramps, then it was like the emerald green grass just opened up right in front of you? For all its faults, this was a damn cool stadium to watch a baseball game!

      I remember that. I don't know why they made that comment about the Stadium being destroyed after the season. I do remember not being able to see the field until you walked up one of those ramps, but being able to see that emerald green grass. What an awesome view. It was one damn cool place to watch a game.

      Lived in the Cleveland area (1960s-1970s) until post college. I swear, nobody I know ever referred to it as "Municipal". It was just "the Stadium" to us.

    I was at the May 26th gave vs the Rangers where Conseco had that HR bounce off his head and over the fence. That had to be the craziest thing I have ever seen at a baseball game.

    @biggswede This is not correct. The Indians left the Stadium for Jacobs Field at the end of the 1993 season. However the Browns played at Municipal Stadium until the end of the 1995 season, when Art Modell moved them to Baltimore. It was not demolished until 1996. It was slowly demolished, not imploded, so it was standing for quite a while. There is a You Tube video of a fire during the demolition process in December of 96.

  • @markjsound

    The stadium was still used by the browns until model moved them after the 95 season. Stadium demolitiion didn't start until 96 or 97.

    They actually did film for "Major League" at this stadium. I know because I worked there for 5 years. ( Did the fireworks) The movie never used any of the shots filmed in Cleveland as the old stadium looked really bad. I have many great memories from those five years!

    • @Sherpaful
      @Sherpaful 9 лет назад +1

      1gallimaufry Major league 1 was filmed in Milwaukee. Major league 2 was filmed in Baltimore. Now, 'The Babe' starring John Goodman was filmed here.

    • @1gallimaufry
      @1gallimaufry 9 лет назад +1

      Sherpaful As I said in my original comment, they DID film for the movie but the stadium looked so crappy they did not use the footage. The night I was shooting a fireworks show in the parking lot was the night they planned on using the fireworks as a backdrop for some of their footage. The film helicopter was interrupting our setup all day long. After all the hassle you can imagine my disappointment when we learned that no images taken that night would be used in the movie. Trust me when I say that they did some filming at the lakefront, I was there!

      Hard to understand how the stadium "looking bad" wouldn't fit the theme of the movie perfectly.
