These equipment reviews have quickly become one of my most potent tools. For the last six months I've taken their advice whenever possible and i have yet to experience buyer's remorse. This has probably saved me a few hundred dollars already and I've got good quality products that perform well.

  • @trustbuster23

I have had a Breville for several years now. It does perform very well and we use it almost every day, but you should expect the convection fan will die long before the rest of the oven does. Fortunately, you can turn the convection fan off and use the oven normally when that inevitably happens. But if you look into it, you find out that the fan is a well known defect, very common with these ovens. On ours, the buttons on the oven are now starting to go bad, so despite the very high price, it is not long for this world.
It is rather disappointing that build quality/long term reliability is not part of this evaluation, because the Breville is so expensive it really should not just perform well but be screwed together well too. It definitely isn't. We will be replacing it with something else when it dies. Call me old fashioned, but I expect quality at this price point.

Btw, I do have the previous model of this breville toaster oven. It is everything they say it is. Hands down the best toaster oven I have ever owned and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. One thing to remember though.... as good as this is, it is not a traditional oven and do not use it as such. You will wear it out. Its fine for the occasion small roast chicken or frozen french frys, tator tots, etc. But do not use this to cook things you would/should in a traditional oven on a regular basis. It will fail on you as mine did. My wife use to cook things that had long cook times (in my opinion, long cook times for a toaster oven constitutes anything at or around 20 minutes) almost daily. I think the high temps and long cook times fried the circuit board cuz the oven setting doesn't work anymore. Toaster setting still works great but the roast/bake setting is inoperable.

I was given a small basic toaster oven by my neighbor when she moved. It works well but uses more electricity than I expected and the reason I never upgraded to a larger one. These ovens are very good when you need concentrated dry heat.

I've used one of these Breville ovens for several years now and rarely use my full sized oven. As a single adult household it meets all my day-to-day needs. My only complaint is the convection fan no longer functions properly.

I know this is about a year old, but I did see your recent (Aug 2020) ATK online review of “air-fryer” toaster ovens and the Breville Smart Over Air was your winner. However that oven has gotten some pretty negative reviews on their web site (and Williams-Sonoma) for leaking grease, smoke and condensation happing around the controls, some the buttons and fails sticking, and the oven’s fuse failing.
I hope you can go back and review these toaster ovens with the air-fryer function (the Breville, Cuisinart, Ninja Foodie, etc.) and really put them through their paces. Being they range from $300-$400 that is a huge investment.
BTW: I have a15 year old Aroma Toaster oven that still performs as well as when I first used it, but I’m doing research for when it finally quits. Thanks ATK!!!!

Toaster oven @ 5:40 If you know how to read the symbols on the device in the movie Stargate, then you should eventually be able to decipher the symbols on that toaster oven device and unlock the commands on how to control it. You will then be able to send your asparagus through the space/time continuum.

In case anyone is wondering how long a Breville toaster oven lasts, I've had mine for around 18 or 19 years and it's still going strong. It's a much simpler design then this model, but it works very well. If it ever quits, I'll buy another one from them.

Since I watched this the first time, I have read a lot of reviews on this oven. Lots of people are very unhappy that the Breville oven has broken down and had to trash it after a year or so. Now, I don't know what to buy since my old toaster oven that I had for 15 yrs finally died. It was a Hamiliton Beach with concpvection that cooked beautifully. But, that model is no longer made. Since this review is only a couple years old I would have purchased this oven. But, the recpviews by actual buyers aren't so good.

I had a toaster oven many years ago and even cooked turkey dressing in it and it was fully cooked and delicious too. Since retiring I have not purchased another one as I cook in my GE oven, my Oyster counter top roaster oven, and my Instant Pot pressure cooker. I roast my turkey in the roaster, and make my dressing in the oven, and use the Instant Pot to make the potatoes in.

I like the breville air smart oven. I read online where reviews state that the winning model breaks often, due to an element overheating. The upgrade to the breville air oven fixes that problem, I think; it keeps a fan blowing to circulate the air after the oven is done cooking, which dissipates the heat. The upgraded breville fan can also move more air, with a ‘super convection’ feauture, so the fan is probably built stronger/more durable, or at least I hope so. I bought mine at Bed Bath Beyond when it was on discount, and I used their 20% off coupon, so my smart oven cost the same as the winning model.

i just spent my afternoon reading the reviews of brevelle toaster ovens, and while they are nice to start, many find they are not reliable and after a few years break down with either costly repairs or parts not available. Many very positive reviews, however, they are with respect to the first few years of operation.

SO sorry ... but y'all need to go BACK and do some re-testing. I just checked out your recommendations and it looks like the Breville, Cuisinart, AND the Caphalon ALL have TERRIBLE reviews on Amazon! All these brands started out really well but after the warranty times they almost completely started failing. BUT ... The De’Longhi Livenza Digital True Convection Oven DID have some really GOOD reviews so I will probably be purchasing THAT one in the near future. My Oster has been a REAL disappointment but I'm trying to get a bit more use out of it. Thanks for all your reviews ... I really do enjoy them and they are really helpful.

I have owned 2 of the large Breville ovens. Both of them had problems with the top control which controls the temperature of the oven. I sent the 1st one back to Breville and they sent me a new oven free of charge. The second one then had the same problem about 1 year later. I loved the way it cooked when it worked. I bought a Cuisinart and hated it. It is not consistent, and forget about toast. Bottom line, I'll probably buy another Breville in the future.

I've had my Breville for ten years, and it's the only oven I use. It's big enough cook full size pies and pizzas, and do it well, but small enough to heat up super fast. The convection fan still works. The only thing that's gone wrong is that the spring that pulls up the door broke. Supposedly, it's not hard to fix, but I haven't bothered since it works fine without it. Toast is good, but still not quite as good as a dedicated toaster. I don't think any toaster oven is.

The 30 second mark shows a flaw in that model that I would find disqualifying. The oven door sprang back up toward the back of the tester’s fingers and if it had been hot and touched them it would have burned them. Oven doors that are OPEN should lay flat (or maybe they could make them slide under and out of the way) and not sprint back up.
